That Psycho-Pass PS4, Vita game is coming west

Do visual novels qualify as games? Are they more or less games than Gone Home? I suppose it doesn't matter. It's a silly thing to argue about and I have some hot news to tell you about.

NIS America is bringing Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness to North America and Europe in late 2016, the localization outfit just announced at its annual press event in San Francisco.

Based on the first season of the anime series, Mandatory Happiness adds backstory and tasks players with making a number of decisions that will impact how the ending plays out.

The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita versions will be available both digitally and physically, in case you have a sarcophagus full of anime stuff you're planning to bring to the afterlife.

For some strange reason, the 5pb.-developed visual novel initially debuted as a timed Xbox One exclusive in Japan last May, but now the PlayStation versions are on their way.

Nippon Ichi Software is localizing its adorable horror game Yomawari: Night Alone for western audiences, the studio revealed tonight at a press event in San Francisco.

No concrete release information was announced outside of a "late 2016" launch window, but I have a feeling we might see the PlayStation Vita exclusive in October, since it debuted in Japan last year just days before Halloween, and that's always a perfect time for new horror games.

Man at Arms forges Master Yi's sword from League of Legends

I only know the Man at Arms guys from their YouTube series where they forge dumb, impractical, and awesome weapons from different games and anime. So when I was visiting with the in-laws this weekend and a Man At Arms TV show came on after another thrilling episode of Border Patrol, I was pretty excited. Only, it turns out the Man At Arms TV show isn't about forging bitching iconic blades. It's about watching four jackasses paw through scrap metal to try and make a bowie knife for other jackasses to judge -- in between emotionally revealing confessionals of course. It's like Chopped, but with metal instead of souffles. I was disappointed.

Anyway, here they are making Master Yi's sword from League of Legends. I'm not even a LoL guy and I thought this one turned out super cool. Even after watching several of these videos, I'm always amazed at how much work goes into making them, these guys are nuts.

Firefly Diary, Criminal Girls coming to PC this spring

Nippon Ichi Software is releasing Disgaea on PC later this week, but it sounds like that's just the first of many NIS games coming to PC in the near future. Tonight at the publisher's annual press event in San Francisco, the studio announced two more titles coming to PC this spring.

Criminal Girls: Invite Only and htoL#NiQ: The Firefly Diary will be ported to the platform in March and April, respectively. Previously, both game were PlayStation Vita exclusives.

Touhou shooter coming to PS4 in the West this summer

Touhou game Genso Rondo is coming west this summer, NIS America just announced.

The shoot-'em-up fighting game hybrid will hold the distinction of being the first Touhou Project game to be officially localized for western release. Developed by doujinsoft circle Cubetype, Genso Rondo was originally distributed at Comiket 82 in August 12 as a PC game.

The version getting localizaed, however, is a PlayStation 4 port, which Cubetype released in Japan last June and across Asia earlier this month, as part of Sony's "Play, Doujin!" program.

Last year, Playism released Touhou 14: Double Dealing Character via its English storefront, but the game was strangely unlocalized, prompting players to use fan translation patches.

Okay, now I get why all those Rocket League GIFs are so cool

I spent part of last summer posting Rocket League GIFs with the second-hand knowledge that they were neat. I would link something in our staff chat and if the reaction was palpable enough, I'd write it up. It was like a robot trying to blog with human emotions. "Initiate Feelings.Excited Protocol."

Now I get it, man. I get how cool all that floaty, flippy, boosty shit is because I've played Rocket League on Xbox One, and I can't do any of it. I get pumped when I hit the ball in the direction of the goal. It doesn't matter what the end result is; if the "Center Ball" bonus comes on-screen, I feel like the best Rocket League-er in the universe.

Patrick Hancock: Well, it's about damn time! Rocket League quickly joined the "games with 100+ hours" club for me, and I still can't put it down. Especially now that Season 2 just began, I find myself playing it as much as ever. What kind of game mode have you been playing mostly?

Despite wonkiness, Hitman runs alright on PC

I've long adored the Hitman series. Ever since first playing Blood Money, I've wanted more. Well, I guess I ate those words, because we kept getting more and the quality started to dip real hard. I've always been looking for a game to rekindle what that entry started for me.

I thought it was going to be Absolution, since after playing the first area at E3, I actually came away impressed. But alas, it became a victim of "modernizing" games and removed the core of what made this series special in the first place. I'm starting to have those original feelings towards this new Hitman, but I'm still approaching it with cautious optimism.

Are you going to bother with Doom's multiplayer?

In the lead-up to Doom's release this May, Bethesda has spent a good deal of its time covering the multiplayer component. There's more on that front today with details on Warpath mode and single-use items, Hack Modules, earned through player progression.

Warpath has marines racing to claim a capture point, king-of-the-hill style, that's moving down a circular path, or taking their chances on the other side of the map to nab the lone demon rune. Whoever grabs it will transform into a Revenant, complete with a jetpack, shoulder-mounted missile launchers, and twitchy skeletal fingers. It's like they have a mind of their own.

As for Hack Modules, they're little perks that can enhance your situational awareness for a limited time. Also, "They are not tied to microtransactions."

Some examples: "Retribution (location and health of the player who last killed you); Scout (location of all enemies for a few seconds after you spawn in); Vital Signs (health bars over enemies' heads); and Power Seeker (location of nearby power-ups)."

"While these are all on timers, your active Hack Module will pause when you die, allowing you to use the remaining time on your module, or to pick another module before you respawn (and thus reserve the remaining time in your prior module for later use)."

That approach sounds fine, I suppose, if perhaps more modern than it needs to be. By now, it seems like we (especially alpha testers) have a decent understanding of the multiplayer setup. Do you care about it at all? Or are you solely focused on the single-player side of Doom?

As much as I like the look of that Revenant POV gif, I have a hard time imagining the multiplayer will end up being much more than a post-campaign distraction for me.

There's a scene in Goodfellas where the feds are going to raid the house, so Ray Liotta's wife, Karen, flushes $60,000 worth of cocaine down the toilet. Ray Liotta is not happy with this coke-disposal and gets a little bit upset. Karen tells him there's nothing she could do and this was the only way to stay out of prison. I always thought she was just getting back at him for all the creepy-ass laughing he did earlier in the film. 

While not exactly contraband, we have five codes for the Cities: Skylines Snowfall add-on that recently released. Amazon sent them over, and since they came in an email, we can't really flush them down the toilet. How about youse guys hold onto them and if anyone asks, you don't know us? Capiche?

In case you're looking for a more reputable dealer, Amazon sells the Snowfall DLC. It's $13, which isn't a sale or anything. It's just a way to circumvent sitting around wondering if Mike Martin's going to pick you as the contest winner. This will end in disappointment for all but five of you because life's great.

I grew up in North Dakota as a baseball-playin' boy. My love of summer combined with North Dakota's bitterly long winters meant that I really hate winter. Tell me why you also hate winter for a chance at winning a Snowfall code. The best Ash Ketchum fan art on the first page of Google

I was writing a story about a weird Ketchum and, of course, the internet out-weirded it with ease. It was a well-meaning Google Image Search. Safe Search is even on, filtering explicit results. Just "ash ketchum." Not "ash ketchum fan art." Not "sexy ash ketchum." Not "ash ketchum bible verses."

Then sorted by images at least 1,000 pixels in width, which might be Nintendo/The Pokemon Company's problem: too few Ash images at high res to bump down the drums of fan art. There's a good story about how Esurance's pink-haired spy mascot of the early aughts ended up getting retired because porn of her supplanted (or at least joined) the company's search engine results.

What I mean to say: it's not like when I actively sought out the sexiest, stupidest, stretchiest Sonic Boom fan art. I didn't even have to scroll down very far to find these.

I, for one, appreciate the Alvinization of Ash Ketchum and I like the and the Chipmunks turn towards live-action. I loved Ash Ketchum in An American Tail: Fievel Goes West. I see this Ash Ketchum every night before I fall asleep.

This Ash comes from Wonder Festival, a semi-annual figure fest outside of Tokyo, same as where the Tokyo Game Show is held.

Burly Men at Sea is still super cute

Brain&Brain brightened one of my busy event-covering days last year with its charming Scandinavian folktale adventure Burly Men at Sea, but I haven't heard much about it since. It's coming along.

There's a cheerful new trailer, for one, and pre-orders have opened on the Humble Store, so we now know the price point. It's normally going to cost $9.99 for Windows and Mac, but early buyers can trim 20 percent off. Just don't touch the facial hair.

The game is releasing on iOS this year as well, and from what little I've played, that seems like the way to go. The way you interact with the world is better suited for touch controls.

The husband-and-wife team also announced that Burly Men at Sea has gained the support of the Indie Fund, which has previously backed games like Armello, Her Story, Panoramical, and Antichamber.

MLB The Show 16 is out in March, here's the first screens

Thank the baseball gods that baseball is back in a month and a half. I'm hooting and hollering like a mad man at these Warriors games, but basketball just takes too many nights off. I need several hours of warm deadening a night, every night, damn it.

MLB The Show 16 will beat the real MLB to the plate, coming to PlayStations 3 and 4 on March 29. Worth noting: Sony San Diego has finally stopped supporting the Vita (aged 4) but continues supporting the PS3 (aged 10). Also that the title has moved from MLB [year]: The Show to MLB The Show [year]. What can it mean!? Another Giants World Series, probably.

Last year's entry was solid by virtue of a decade-long good structure, but the new additions fell real short. Hoping that dropping the Vita version plus last year's incremental nature means that the new-named MLB The Show 16 has a bit of a bounce back year.

Wandering the hard-boiled wonderland of Kona: Day One

Carl Faubert’s Chevy truck rattles through a raging blizzard, his journey narrated by a Canadian Sam Elliott. I’m at the wheel, but barely in control. Out of the white, another vehicle speeds towards me. We're on a collision course. Canadian Sam stops rambling enough to make it all the more surprising. I make a hard right and brake; a hard bump cushioned by the nearest snowdrift. I pause to reflect while they continue to speed away. They’re running, Canadian Sam figures aloud, from my only destination.

It’s not long before I find an abandoned gas station; its scattered remains tell me someone was either attacked or they left in a hurry. Out back, I follow some animal tracks into the nearby woods. There, I find my answer, trapped in ice. I head back to the Chevy, a colourful friend in a stark landscape, spooked and frozen. The dashboard heater keeps out the harsher elements, keeps me safe, but within its opening moments, Kôna: Day One has made it very clear: This isn’t just another walking simulator and you'd best be on your toes.

Fallout 4 beta update brings roadsigns and meat bags to settlements

If there's one thing I've always felt my settlements in Fallout 4 were missing, it was a mishmash of dismembered bodies hastily lashed together in a wire mesh and hung off the highest barricade to intimidate my foes. Also, delightful road signs. Basically, I want to be able to make a family restaurant for cannibal thrill killers.

The 1.4 beta update (only available on the PC) is bringing me one step closer to living the dream. The update includes a slew of new settlement knick-knacks including the already mentioned super mutant and raider themed clutter, road signs, new paintings and portraits, and thankfully, more metal and wooden door options (I was getting tired of seeing the same metal shed door on every building). All I need now is an alligator wearing sunglasses and maybe one of those singing fish. Also, corpses.

The update also ushers in the usual bug and quest fixes you expect from a Fallout patch. Highlights include fixes to the Demolition and Grim Reaper perks, and cleaning up some of the many progress stalling quest bugs that are still in the game. You can check out the full list here and how to access the beta update. I love Fallout 4, but the number of quests that could leave you dead in the water and unable to proceed still blows my mind. Maybe by update 1.8 I won't feel the need to create a separate save file every three minutes.

Division decimates Destiny's record for biggest beta of a new IP

Ubisoft's aspirations for The Division are well-documented at this point: It expects the game to be the most successful launch of a new property in video game history. Lofty for sure, but not unreasonable. The recently-ended open beta is proof positive of that.

It took almost no time at all for Ubisoft to talk up the beta's performance. In a post on the game's site, it was announced that 6.4 million people took part in the beta. That's a record for a new IP.

Destiny was the old record-holder with 4.6 million players. For what it's worth, Destiny didn't have PC to bolster its numbers. However, it did support last-gen consoles, which are platforms that The Division isn't coming to.

Other statistics for The Division's beta are that the average player committed five hours to it, people spent an average of two hours in the PvP "Dark Zone," and 50 percent of PvP players killed a teammate. That seems like a lot. I know times are tough, what with the smallpox epidemic and all, but don't kill all your friends.

Far Cry Primal turns the clock back to the Mesolithic, but the smallest sliver looks ahead to the cyber-dystopian 2007. Ubisoft managed to sneak a relic from Blood Dragon into one of Oros' many caves. At least it's thematically consistent in that both games are filled with terrifying beasts.

This video shows exactly how to stumble up the remains of a lizard that was once capable of shooting lasers from its eyes. The first time you do so, an Achievement/Trophy will unlock called "Mark 4 Wenja" and a cool guitar riff will play. Subsequent times, you just get to bask in its neon-pink glory.

A fair number of us have already been beast-taming and sabertooth tiger-riding. Kyle was in charge of the review, giving it a seven. These games lend themselves to inane scenarios that make it almost impossible to not have fun with. But, at the same time, Primal feels very much like a Far Cry game despite all of its radical departures. That'll mean different things to different folks; it all just depends on how weary you've grown of the formula.

Broforce secures a spot in March's PlayStation Plus lineup

As expected, Free Lives' parody-filled run-and-gun game Broforce came out on top in Sony's second Vote to Play event. It will be one of the titles offered to PlayStation Plus subscribers in March.

The losing games, Action Henk and Assault Android Cactus, are going to hold a sort of consolation discount next month. They'll be available for 30 percent off from March 8 - 21 for PS Plus members.

I doubt I'll take either of them up on that (I voted for Cactus), but hey, it's better than nothing. I appreciate the thought.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 is coming, still has the rockin' midriff

Keiji Inafune was over at MAGFest this past weekend, and in addition to confirming that Mighty No. 9 still existed (that's good news), they also showed off Azure Striker Gunvolt 2. At this point there will have been two Azure Striker games released, both of which were announced after Mighty started development, before Mighty is out. In fact, with its track record, we may even get three.

You can see the gameplay trailer for yourself compliments of Nintendo Everything below. It looks...mostly the same? That could be fine if it's just more Azure Striker with new levels.

Star Trek Online's new flagship article is a nostalgia trip

We already know that fan-made projects can be really cool, but things can get to another level if a developer also happens to be a fan. That seems to be the case with Star Trek Online and one of the starship designers at Cryptic Studios, Thomas Marrone.

A little while ago, the game released new, updated versions of the Odyssey-class flagship, the same model as the U.S.S. Enterprise of Star Trek Online's timeline. To commemorate the occasion, Marrone put together a twelve-page article from "Jayce's Navy Interstellar," a fictional 24th-century publication in the style of Jane's Defense Weekly. Written "in-universe," the article takes a look at the new ships and explains more about their background and origins. Check it out in PDF form here, and if you're curious about the ships themselves, other fans have made montages of them in action using the game's recording tools below.

Though technically unofficial, the fake article is a real nostalgia trip, both to Trek fandom and the olden days of PC games, when manuals were not only the primary source of information on how to play but also the best place to put details about a game's setting, world, and other bits of "lore". What old PC gamer could forget the novellas that came with Wing Commander, or reading about the social structures of Kharak in the Homeworld manuals, or the steampunk glory of Arcanum's manual? These days you'd be lucky to get a tie-in comic to pay for, or a codex that can only be read in-game instead of when you're on the toilet. Almost sad that one has to look to fans (and fan-devs) for this sort of side material.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: All-Star Carnival coming this fall to arcades

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: All-Star Carnival is officially coming to Japanese arcades this fall. According to Square Enix, it will host over 80 songs, as well as 60 characters. The game is moving to a dual-joystick system, and will also sport two buttons. It will also feature online play across all of Japan, and like other major arcade games, it will get periodic updates.

Check out a list of the songs confirmed so far, and some footage, below. The fate of this series doesn't seem all that sound in the west, as we haven't even gotten the Dragon Quest edition yet, which will hit its one-year anniversary in Japan next month.

Sakurai says he wishes Geno was a fully fledged fighter in Super Smash Bros.

The last round of Smash DLC was a doozy. We got another Fire Emblem character that plays utterly different from the rest, and a completely unexpected new addition. But Masashiro Sakurai, famed producer of the series, wanted Geno is a full-on character. Speaking to Nintendo Dream (translated by Source Gaming below), he noted that it was basically out of his hands, but he wanted him to appear.

Instead, we got a lame Mii costume. While the meaningful DLC is incredibly good, I generally regret buying the Mii outfits I did. Maybe there's hope yet for Geno in the newest Smash, which will likely see even crazier crossovers in an attempt to top this iteration.

Bandai Namco confirms Dark Souls III pre-order bonuses, Dark Souls backward compatibility

After all of the pulled listings and news reports, Bandai Namco has finally confirmed the pre-order details for Dark Souls III in the US. On Xbox One, if you pre-order you'll net the original Dark Souls for Xbox 360 now, and "later" on Xbox One whenever that backward compatibility switch is flipped.

On PS4, you'll get a free digital soundtrack and an "exclusive" pre-order theme. The soundtrack will be available on April 12. On Steam, you'll get a digital version of the soundtrack as well. If you already own the first two Dark Souls titles, you'll net a $5 discount on your pre-order. Hey, it's something I guess. There's also the Deluxe Edition on sale for $85 for all three versions, which provides access to the Season Pass.

This is one of the few games that I'm all-in with this year. With its track record and the fact that my hands-on time with it was good, I'm expecting great things from Dark Souls III.

Review: Ninja Senki DX

Sometimes it's nice to go back to one of your earliest creations and give it a bit of polish, which is exactly what Tribute Games has done with Ninja Senki. Jonathan Lavigne, co-founder of Tribute, first released the ninja platformer as a freeware title a year before forming the studio that went on to create such games as Wizorb, Mercenary Kings, and Curses 'n Chaos.

Five years later, Tribute Games has decided to return to the little purple ninja who started it all, and spruce him up for a fifth anniversary commercial release on Steam and consoles. While it's still basically the same game, Ninja Senki DX offers several new features and improvements to make it worth the price tag. After all, the freeware version was already too good to be free in the first place.

Splatoon is getting its own themed candy

Splatoon continues its steady rise to the top of the Wii U's all-time greats list and the cultural zeitgeist with...candy. Yep, over in Japan, Nobel is going to release special Splatoon themed candy which are shaped like squids and octopuses. Oh, and they're getting stickers as well.

I miss being able to hop over to Akihabara and finding just about any anime or video game themed trinket!

Review: Far Cry Primal

Diamonds played a pivotal role in the story of Far Cry 2. In a war-torn African state on the brink of collapse, these jewels were prized items of great importance. They could be used to broker a false peace between two warring factions, allowing the warlords to continue their senseless bloodshed without interference from the outside world. Or they could offer someone a chance to escape that hellhole, providing a valuable asset to bribe border agents for safe passage.

The game itself was a rough gemstone, in a manner of speaking. While imperfect in some respects, it clearly had a great deal of potential. Ubisoft had unearthed something truly special, a paradigm for survival-themed shooters that allowed players to creatively approach complex situations from almost any angle in a harsh, dynamic sandbox of a world.

In the near-decade since that breakthrough, Ubisoft has studied Far Cry's faults and fortes. It has refined the prototype into a distinct formula, taking extra care to meticulously shave off any sharp corners and polish the surface until everything glitters and shines.

As strange as it may seem, Far Cry Primal is the next step in that evolution. Though travelling back in time to the Stone Age may seem like a bold new move for the franchise, in actuality, it's perfectly in line with where the series has been heading, both for better and for the worse.

Carmageddon: Max Damage is coming to consoles

Stainless Games has announced that Carmageddon: Max Damage is on its way to the PS4 and Xbox one platforms later this year. There's 30 vehicles in all, 10 arenas, multiplayer, and a career mode. Carmageddon originally debuted in the '90s (by Stainless Games, no less), and made headlines for its ability to brutally run over pedestrians. Twisted Metal had this feature as well, but its competition was more blatant about advertising it.

I don't really have a whole lot of faith in this considering that the last game (Reincarnation) wasn't very good, but we'll see.

Video Review: Far Cry Primal

And we're back with video reviews! This time we're looking at Far Cry Primal, a game that I've been side-eying for a while now.

Kyle did a lovely job reviewing the game -- and if you'd like to see some dope gameplay while hearing Kyle's words coming out of my mouth like some sort of possessed puppet, hoo boy do I have a treat for you.

Mistwalker teams with Bravely Default studio on mystery project

Silicon Studio and Mistwalker are jointly developing a new game, the studios just announced.

What they won't tell us is what the game is called, what it looks like, or when it might come out. But all will be revealed, they promise, at a later date. Who knows how soon? It's a mystery!

Also a mystery is this image (pictured above), which came along with today's announcement. However, it first appeared on Mistwalker's website in 2009 shortly after the company's role-playing game Cry On was canceled in the middle of development, and then later showed up during the promotional campaign for Terra Battle along with a pledges of a console game.

So this announcement probably that. You know, unless it isn't. Nothing is official yet, remember? Maybe it's just something Mistwalker likes to troll people with every couple years.

Silicon Studio, maker of Bravely Default and 3D Dot Game Heroes, released Bravely Second: End Layer with Square Enix in Japan last year (coming soon to a Europe and America near you).

Check at that picture for the third time. Get those hopes up. Announcement's a-comin'.

It is not unusual for one game genre to not be enough to keep you occupied. While I do have ARTS/MOBA and MMORPGs as my main genre (although there have not been very many good MMORPGs for a while…), racing and car games have always had a soft spot in my heart. It just feels great to relax and drive or terrorize the track with the roars of your engine. While Crossout is a game where players drive vehicles, it is much more than that. This game can quickly be described as: MadMax + Motorstorm + Robocraft. Read on for my first impressions of Crossout.

For those unfamiliar with the games used to describe Crossout, don't worry, the game is very easy to understand. Players craft their own unique battle machines, ride them directly into combat, and destroy their enemies in online PvP battles. The overall idea behind the game is very simple but each of these key elements bring a lot to the table. Seeing them all work as a united game is a marvel of game development.

Crafting

In Crossout, players will be driving their own uniquely crafted vehicles. The crafting or building process in Crossout is amazing. Using the in-game editor, players can build their own unique vehicles from scratch. You are only limited by your imagination (and of course, being a MMO, the items in your inventory…). Everything in the game can be seen as a building block with some set dimensions, similar to how LEGO works in the real world. Players can choose between various items such as tires, engines, windows, turrets, and even rocket launchers before combining them into your personal unique snowflake of doom. You can build fast and light vehicles or slow tanks; it is up to you. I personally like my normal pick-up truck type vehicle with a machine gun and grenade launcher. It's simple and does not excel in any particular category but is well balanced and does the job.

The crafting system is very intuitive and easy to use.

If I could assume that I had all the equipment available to me for crafting, I would go for a very mobile vehicle that can fight from afar. I love to stay back and fight from a distance. When danger comes to me, I prefer to back off to a better position. Fighting from the backlines has always been my playstyle in all games and it would be great to continue this style in Crossout. Fortunately, the great crafting system makes this very possible given enough time to grind out the materials.

Ride Into Battle

After you are happy with your crafted vehicle, it is time to ride it into battle. The controls are very straight forward, using the keyboard’s WASD keys to drive and my mouse to aim and fire both my primary and secondary weapons. Usually keyboards are horrible for car games but since this is more of a car fighting game, the keyboard works perfectly fine. You will very rarely need the precise turning available with a steering wheel or controller. Overall, the controls are very intuitive and easy to use.

The controls let you do whatever your vehicle is capable of in battle. What it is capable of is up to you depending on your crafting ability and creativity. Your vehicle can take any shape so long as it’s functional within the physics engine; it can be a tank with tracks or a traditional four wheeled SUV. While the controls may be amazing, it is up to you to ensure that you do not construct an awkward vehicle. The game does a good job in helping you out but there’s no gutter guards preventing you from rolling into a match in a tin garbage can. Fortunately, there is a test drive mode available so you can try out your creation before jumping into a live battle.

Destroy Your Enemies!

In battle, all players work to destroy their enemies. PvP matches are team based and either team can come out victorious by either destroying all enemy vehicles or capturing all objectives. Additional game modes are likely to be added in the future, but the beta only offers a control point game mode. It is important to note that there is no respawning; if you die, you are out until the end of the match. This makes it essential to play smart and not 'rambo' into battle. However, I have noticed that in the majority of matches everyone just fights to the death instead of focusing on objectives. Oh well, that works too as you can still win by eliminating the enemy team.

Your vehicle can break down piece by piece if it takes damage.

My favourite part of the PvP battles is the damage system. This may just be my developer side coming out, but I found it amazing that each part of your vehicle is treated as a separate entity and can break independently. You are not faced with a boring binary HP system where you are either alive or dead. Instead, real damage is reflected based on where you are hit. Is an enemy's turret giving you trouble? Break it off! Is an enemy vehicle too fast for your liking? Shoot off its wheels! It's great to see a damage system that is much more interesting than the simple 'alive' or 'dead' system found in the majority of online shooters.

All the battles are very fast paced and always action packed. However, I am not a big fan of the mission system used to enter these battles. All these 'missions' do is change the potential drops and limit the level of players. It doesn't matter what mission you are doing, the objective of all battles will be the same. The mission system is simply used to farm the items and equipment you are interested in. However, this system does allow you to play against players around your skill level as every mission has a level requirement which must be met before you can queue for it.

Current State of the Beta: Great

Combining the elements of crafting, riding, and destroying together results in a game that is fun to play. I am a huge fan of the crafting system because it is so simple and novice friendly to learn to use, yet doesn’t limit the wild expanse of creativity even this early in beta. There are still some areas such as the environment and sound effects which could use some work, but the game is in an amazing state for being in beta. I am looking forward to the evolution of this game and hope to see many gamers playing soon.

I do not have much experience at the higher levels in Crossout so I cannot comment for sure, but this game could be viable as an eSport. It would be great to see a digital version of Robot Wars. Hopefully the cash shop system does not completely knock free to play players out of the competition. Looking forward to what this game has in store upon full release!
