Silkroad Online Continues Ignite Updates With Undead’s Revenge

Posted: 08 Jan 2013 01:35 PM PST

Joymax has announced today the upcoming launch of another major update for Silkroad Online in the “Ignite Silkroad” series – Ignite Silkroad Part 3: Undead’s Revenge.

The new update this month will bring a new terrifying monster, Death Bone. Following the death of last month’s raid monster event, “Roc Time Attack!”, the rage and terror of so many deaths has had an unintended consequence. Born from the Roc’s ashes, Death Bone arises — a massive skeleton monster with powerful skills that will instantly knock the players silly. Death Bone will claw all players close to it, and then launch a near-death attack for the unfortunate players who did not flee in the following 5 seconds. Players must always be alert and aware when fighting Death Bone.

Death Bone is the most challenging boss yet, requiring a full raid at maximum level; the epic event “Roc Time Attack!” will feel easy in comparison. Residing deep within the Roc Mountain, players who have both defeated the Roc and completed a challenging quest chain can call up this undead monstrosity. The effort is well worth the investment, as Death Bone not only rewards the best EXP gains, but also 13th tier equipment, the highest gold reward, and more.

Starting January 15th for a limited time, this dungeon will be open to all players above level 80. A Key of Bloodline- an item which allows players to enter the dungeon- will be given for free (the key is usually obtained through high-level quest). Rewards such as Monster Summon Scrolls and Pandora’s Box will be given just for participating in a battle and posting a screenshot to the official Silkroad Online Facebook page!

WildStar Overview

WildStar is a SciFi World exploration game that brings in a mixed feel from games such as Borderlands and with artstyle similar to the Ratchet and Clank series. Although not much is released in terms of features, Carbine Studios plans to do a major revealing at PAX Prime at the end of August to reveal this game more openly to the world.

Features

Dynamic Combat: Enemies offer hints to their major attacks and players are rewarded with buffs and experience for taking the appropriate measures in dodging/countering these attacks.

Path System: Within each playable class is 4 paths players can choose. These not only impact the abilities you acquire but also the missions you can embark on and the bonuses you can attain. For instance the explorer can go on side quests to reach hard to reach places while the soldier can initiate objects that lead to public quests.

Multiple Races: Although they have only revealed the Grenak, Human, and Aurin, each seems unique and useful. Grenak seem to be tough skinned and masters of weaponry and combat. Humans seem to be able to use portal technology to move quickly and close distance to enemies fast. Aurin are psychic and animalistic and summon weapons or ethereal armors to aid their allies and destroy their enemies.

Dynamic Quest Acquisition: You can receive updates to quests on the go from nearby NPCs, saving you from having to travel back and forth to town pointlessly and keeping you straight in the action.

Story Driven: As an Exile, you are on the run from the Dominion race. The Dominion are set to wipe out your races in their conquest of the galaxies. You will travel from one world to the next in your pursuit of freedom and encounter various challenges on each to keep the game fresh.

MMO Predictions for 2013 – A Rise in More Interactive MMO’s

MMO Predictions for 2013 – A Rise in More Interactive MMO’s

By Harry Ka-yan Cheung, MMOHut Journalist

Image2 620x348

By my own research, I've come to a personal conclusion. This year is going to be one of the years MMOs will take more of a turn compared to the other years. My predictions point towards some of the more interactive games to be announced and released this year.

Path of Exile (PoE)

This game, according to an announcement, was suppose to officially release around November last year, but sadly, more testing and more content needed to be added. This game has the same dark and evil environment aspect Diablo has which brings a very Diablo-like feel to it which attracts many players who want a darker 2.5d type game. This game is referred to on many sites as the game Diablo 3 should have been like.
The skill and stat system is unlike most online game and is in a very unique format. It is almost impossible for two players to be identical unless they are planning to follow a certain route to the mark. The game offers 6 classes but due to the large array of possible paths, the class selection becomes almost unlimited. A player can choose to be a summon-focused templar or an on-hit effects mage. Path of Exile shows good promise and as the date nears, it is definitely a game worth taking a look at. This is announced to be released early 2013.

Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2)

Following up with the first Phantasy Star, which was also very popular with the OnRPG and MMORPG community, Phantasy Star Online 2 has already been released in Japan and players around the world had a chance to try it out. The creators only added to the old PSO without taking what was good already. Don't change what doesn't need to be change, right? I personally also took a liking to the game due to the action gameplay and graphic style but because it was in a language I do not frequently speak in, I could not understand most of the dialogue.

This will most likely be run by Sega NA which is doubted to be good by a few selected people but that will be shown by when the game is actually released. I, personally, expect great things to come from the release of PSO2. This game holds up to its name and is one of the most anticipated games this year. The game has been officially announced to be released in early 2013.

A trailer video from Sega America's official Youtube.

Dungeon Strikers (DS)

From my own theory, Dungeon Strikers has a possibility of releasing this year, as well. My theory is that a company will pick up DS soon in regards to how many people are enjoying the Korean version of the game. The anticipation for this game is rising higher and higher as the days go by but there is still no estimation date for DS. Many online gamers are waiting for an announcement on the release date of this game but there's yet to be any news.

Dungeon Strikers is another MMO made by the same creators as Dragon Nest. Eyedentity, the developers, state that their plans are to aim at the global market but have yet to confirm news on the EU, Japan, and NA versions. If early localization is possible and popularity is high, I can see this being released mid-late 2013.

image003 620x335

A screenshot of a mage using an AoE spell on surrounding enemies.

Blade & Soul (B&S)

B&S has been one of the most anticipated games for years. The Korean version of Blade and Soul was released and has been active for at least two years now, and the NA version will finally be released this year. Although the information is still very vague, the Blade and Soul team had announced the game for this year at E3 and Gamescom. I personally would like to play Blade and Soul but if another game comes out before B&S does, I'm almost positive that that opposing game will hold more of my interest.

Blade and Soul offers an interactive gameplay style and a very stunning art-style. The MMO offers some very nice eye candy and also shows some of the true possible potential that graphics can bring to a game. The gameplay has a small downfall, as it is not as interactive as some other games (like Vindictus), but the stat system and combo system of Blade and Soul are some of the main attractions a player is looking for. The biggest downfall is the likelihood of the game being a pay-to-play game.

Eternal Blade

This is my personal most anticipated game. The game is set to be run by Gpotato. This game looks like it will have a lot to offer to a player and shows a lot of potential. There are to be a 6 character class selection choice and the gameplay is very interactive. I see this as one of my personal favorite games in the future. The graphic style is very refreshing in my opinion(I enjoy the more animated graphic style) and the gameplay is very fast-paced.

The staff of Eternal Blade has made a post of no speculative dates as of now and there is no news as to when the game will be released. My guess would be that due to how long the site has actually been up, the release will be from early-mid 2013. Eternal blade has not been out for long in the other versions but it should be closing in on a release date due to the obvious website put up by gPotato.

An in-game screenshot of Eternal Blade.

GunZ: The Second Duel

I wanted to add my 2 cents about GunZ: The Second Duel. This game holds a lot of potential. It's very different from the first GunZ and is also not an FPS. The game already holds many Co-op and AI-type game modes and offers a player many modes to play with. The only problem is that there is absolutely no news for a NA version of this game. GunZ: The Second Duel holds a lot of unique features but shows no real sign of localization. Even on their main site, it only states the release date for the KR version. My personal guess is that if this MMO does release this year, it will be mid-late 2013.

Final Note

I personally think that this year looks more promising than last year. There are many games I look forward to as well as I am looking forward to play. Of course, some of these dates are in speculation but non-the-less, the probability of the said games are of high expectation.

Conquer Online Introduces New Force – The Oriental Assassin!

1 Oriental Assassin

Hong Kong – January 8, 2013 – Conquer Online, an MMORPG featuring fast-paced combat, simple gameplay and oriental fantasy, is ready to unveil a new eastern legend – the Oriental Assassin. Said to once be a part of the empires secret guard, the best assassins are sent out to hunt down the empire’s most-wanted and most feared. Unlike all the other assassins you find in other MMOs, the Oriental Assassin is very unique as a long-range class, attacking their enemies from a distance with stealth and their deadly throwing knives.

The Oriental Assassin: What secrets hide behind the veil?

Different from the current 7 classes (Warrior, Ninja, Trojan, Archer, Monk, Taoist and Pirate) in CO, Assassins have a unique combat style and transformation ability. When throwing knives are equipped, Archers will become Assassins and then they can launch a fast and deadly attack on a target from a distance, killing them before they even know what happened.

Throwing Knives: An Assassin’s Deadly Companion

The Conquer Online team has announced that the Oriental Assassin will be joining the battle in January, yet some information about their skills has already been announced. The new addition will bring four brand new skills, as well as a special XP skill, which will maximize the advantage of the Assassin’s long-range attack, making them a powerful force, especially in PvP battles. Detailed information and trailers on this new class will be released on the official CO Homepage, soon!

CCP merging DUST beta with EVE live server on January 10

CCP migrates DUST 514 beta to EVE live server on January 10
EVE Online and DUST 514 players have been rubbing elbows on the Singularity test server for a while now. Beginning Thursday, January 10th, the two groups will be hobnobbing together for keeps on EVE's live Tranquility server.

With the two games combining, both playerbases will be able to interact via chat channels and even join corporations together. However, even though DUST is integrating into the live EVE server, CCP points out that the shooter is not officially launching. "For now we are remaining in closed beta from the DUST side of things," the company says. However, barring any major catastrophes, CCP also states this will be the last time DUST characters are reset.

    The Repopulation - Desert oasis
Last year was a big one for indie sci-fi sandbox The Repopulation. Between alpha testing, a successful Kickstarter campaign, a GDC reveal, and a couple of engine updates, the game made plenty of progress in 2012.

This year more players will get a chance to see that progress for themselves, as Above & Beyond Technologies will kick off The Repopulation's closed beta sometime in the spring. The team also plans to release more game information to the press as well as put in an appearance at PAX Prime over the Labor Day weekend. Finally, The Repopulation's official release is "tentatively scheduled for the end of the year," according to today's lengthy 2013 preview post.

The Daily Grind: How long do you need to play a game before you get a fair impression?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2013 05:00 AM PST

I didn't play Champions Online long enough for a fair impression the first time. In my defense, it was before I worked here.
First impressions are tricky things. Play a game for a little while and you'll get an idea of what the game is like, but you might miss some important parts that give it context. The combat doesn't change once you finish the tutorial in DC Universe Online, but you have a lot more powers and abilities afterward. Having your full skillbar in Guild Wars 2 changes a huge chunk of the gameplay, and you don't unlock your final slot until level 30.

But some gamers would argue that you can tell whether you'll like a game earlier than that. Speaking as a journalist, I know I need to evaluate the game as a whole to make sure it's not just a good game that isn't to my tastes, but a casual player doesn't have that restriction. So how long do you feel you personally need to play a game to get a fair impression of the game as a whole?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

The League of Legends North American online qualifiers took place this weekend, with 32 teams competing for just eight spots in the upcoming offline qualifiers in Los Angeles. Dota 2's competitive tournament scene suffered a setback when tournament website joinDOTA had its YouTube account and channel inexplicably closed. Rise of Immortals is gearing up for its first official tournament, and Guardians of Middle-Earth has $5,000 up for grabs in its first console MOBA e-sports cups.

The Kickstarter campaign for Elite: Dangerous blasted through its goal in the final two days thanks to a huge wave of last-minute pledges. Off the back of the popularity of its own crowdfunding campaign, action RPG Path of Exile upgraded and battle-tested its servers to handle over 50,000 concurrent players.

Upcoming MOBA Sins of a Dark Age aims to add a twist to the modern MOBA with randomly spawned Realm Quests that add another tactical level to the standard 5v5 gameplay. Finally, Blizzard highlighted several player-made videos this week showing some of the optimum Diablo III farming routes for players on the race to paragon level 100.

Chaos Theory: Sounding off on the influence of ambiance in The Secret World

Chaos Theory Sonding off on the influence of ambiance in TSW
From chirping birds and swooshing swords to background music for different areas, MMOs are rife with in-game sounds. Yet plenty of folks actually opt out of the original game sounds and music, shutting them off in favor of personal soundtracks. I myself usually turn game sounds down to around 3% because I often find the sounds too overpowering. Doing so never seemed to affect games much -- until now.

        Sounds make The Secret World.

By now, you've all heard me rave about the ambiance in TSW, either in my Why I Play, here in Chaos Theory, or during my livestreams on Massively TV. I've repeatedly said that the spooky atmosphere that pulls you right into the game is one of its greatest features. Yet it actually goes deeper than that: The ambiance is more than just added frosting that can be scraped off without affecting the main treat; it is completely integral to the game. Thanks to an unplanned "opportunity" this past week, I can tell you without a doubt that if you remove or turn the sounds in TSW down too low, you are doing yourself a huge disservice. In fact, you are actually missing out on the game.

Defiance show set for a two-hour premiere in April

I'm in Defiance... of GRAVITY! Oh, wait, there are rocks down there.
It's understandable if you've kind of forgotten about how Defiance is meant to be specifically tied to a show on the SyFy channel. Past reveals about the game have focused on gameplay, not actors and broadcast times. But if you're looking forward to immersing yourself in the full Defiance experience from the ground up, mark your calendar for April, as the first episode of the series is set to air then.

The series will premiere with a two-hour episode on April 15th at 9 p.m. EST. A Monday night slot isn't the most promising placement for a new show, but it might be a temporary placement until the show performs well. (Or poorly.) This also points to a launch for the game sometime in April, as the two are meant to exist side-by-side from the start. Keep an eye on the game's first beta test later this month to see what happens next.

The Elder Scrolls Online answers queries about the Daggerfall Covenant

          The Elder Scrolls Online
The word "Daggerfall" has special significance to the Elder Scrolls community, which is perhaps why the Daggerfall Covenant has received considerable interest among those following the development of The Elder Scrolls Online. ZeniMax has a brand-new player Q&A that covers the lore and history of this faction.

The Daggerfall Covenant encapsulates the Bretons, Redguard, and Orcs, and is symbolized by a lion. A significant question is why the Orcs would join forces with the other two races. The devs responded by saying that the race feels inferior to others and is trying to get established as an Imperial province, although it's "an alliance of convenience."

The developers also talked about the variety that's going into the Alik'r Desert, a plague of werewolves that's a significant part of the game, what towns we'll be seeing in the region (Bergama, Camlorn, and Lainlyn), and how the alliance between the races overcomes their religious differences.

Why DayZ isn't a standalone title yet

          Posted: 07 Jan 2013 01:00 PM PST

          Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
You may have noticed that it's no longer 2012. (If not: Hello and welcome to the world of tomorrow!) You may also have noticed that, despite all expectations to the contrary, a DayZ standalone game has not yet been released.

That's because, according to creator Dean Hall, the dev team "had the chance to go from making a game that was just the mod improved slightly, packaged simply, and sold -- to actually redeveloping the engine and making the game the way [the team] dreamed it could be." The new plan is for a closed test of 500-1000 participants to happen in the near future, after which the internal release date will be adjusted as the team feels necessary.

As the team has taken extra time to polish things up, a great deal has changed. Items have more complexity now -- picking up a shirt from a player who suffered from cholera may well get you infected, and shooting a player in the head in an attempt to get his night vision goggles may result in damage to the goggles themselves. The UI is being streamlined and simplified to be "straightforward and functional just like in Minecraft." Map redesign and refinement is being slowed down by the continued imprisonment of the team's lead architect.

Pathfinder Online will be released for Windows and Mac

Pathfinder Online will be released for Mac
Goblinworks, the development team behind the upcoming Pathfinder Online MMO, has just announced that Pathfinder will be available for both Windows and Mac users. Because the team has decided to work in UNITY, there will be a minimal amount of platform-specific development. Think this is a wonderful/horrible idea that will be industry-changing/a sure sign of failure and that more people need to embrace it/scorn the very notion of it? The team is inviting feedback and questions on the Paizo forums.

This announcement is timely, as the game has almost $400,000 left to raise in the final week of its Kickstarter campaign. Perhaps a flood support from all eight Mac-only gamers will clinch the deal.

The Nexus Telegraph: WildStar is serious business

And no fighting in the war room.
Science fiction. It's a genre all about man's eternal struggle against space aliens, cyborgs, and people with British accents in very large flagships. Or, you know, about things larger than humanity, about exploring the unknown, and about the sense of wonder at exploring strange new frontiers of a world similar to our own but unfamiliar at the same time. It's a chance for us to step beyond the boundaries of our own world and into the great beyond just a few paces at a time.

But it's mostly the cyborgs and flagships. That stuff is really cool to watch.

WildStar is a science fiction game. But it takes more than a few cues from a show that also had the audacity to lend a lot of the wild west to a deep space setting. It's hard not to pick up on the Firefly vibe from the previews, after all. But it's been very illuminating to see what the designers have to say about influences and the direction they want to take the game's storytelling because it's very different from other science fiction games on the market right now.

As 2013 gets underway and before Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment begin hinting at upcoming material due out for Star Trek Online's third anniversary next month, I'm taking the opportunity to go over the past year in the game. It's a great time to sit down and be reminded of just how much transpired in the last 12 months.

Last week, I barely scratched the surface of what happened in Star Trek Online during 2012, but I was able to touch briefly on some of the minor changes that occurred with user-generated content tool, The Foundry. Join me while I continue my look back on what 2012 brought to STO!

The Secret World granting contest reward to all participating players

The Secret World granting contest reward to all participating players
When Funcom brought The Secret World back online this morning, there was a twist in the announcement of the contest winners on the launchpad: Every player who participated in the End of Days special event will be granted the contest rewards! Instead of the top 1,000 players receiving the unique "Hero of Ages" title and the top 100 getting the Hatchling pet, every character who took part in the event will collect both. Note: The miniature bug pet is delivered to the character and not to the item store claim area.

The devs are taking this route because players found a way to "exploit the mechanics and reach impossible amounts of points which in turn alters the rankings to unrealistic results."
