| Camelot Unchained’s 4th Archetype Reveal is Shapeshifters Posted: 23 Oct 2015 03:33 PM PDT This week CityState Games brought quite the curveball in their 10 week class archetype reveal series for PvP Sandbox MMORPG, Camelot Unchained. After archers, and heavy fighters brought the iconic MMORPG classes to the forefront, this week's Shapeshifters take a sharp "Bat Shit Crazy" turn from the norm. Let's break down what these three classes bring to the table. Vikings – Child of Loki The child of Loki is as wily a creature as you'd expect. Capable of obtaining runes to unlock new forms, a veteran Child of Loki is a deviant with more than just a bag of tricks up their sleeves. Utilizing a rift running ally speed buffing horse form, they can close in on targets before they have a chance to react. As a wolf they can stay in the heat of battle with life stealing attacks, and reduce their foes to shivering piles by upping their allies panic inducing rating. As a snake they can properly identify and break through a variety of armor types to kill foes slowly with long duration stacking poisons. They're less reliant on weapons and armor then their Shapeshifter counterparts, and force a user to think strategically and quickly to use the right forms in the right situations to obtain victory. Arthurians – Enchanted Knight Mock their all too Arthurian sounding name all you want. The Enchanted Knight is not something you want to run into in a dark alley. Masters of 1v1 combat, they can transform into creatures such as a Griffon (high slashing damage and furious attack speeds), Basilisk (crippling debuff disease and AoEs), and Demon (utilizing veil chaos damage buffs and curses to control and punish brash foes). The longer they stay in a single form, the more they can empower themselves, making them ideal for choosing a form that counters an enemy and then slowly wittling them away with your advantage. TDD – Black Rider Dullahans, aka headless knights, the Black Rider is akin to the grim reaper of the battlefield. While initially less intimidating than their rival shapeshifters, and not as viable in single combat, a Black Rider left alone too long may become the undoing of your entire regiment. The Dullahan transforms into increasingly terrifying forms over time, utilizing its detached head as a projectile weapon, its spine as a spear, and its ribs as armor. Their abilities deal death damage that grows in power as more corpses pile up around them. Once in their final form, they will literally absorb the fallen of the battlefield to become unstoppable monstrosities, bolstering their defenses or punishing attackers with recoil. Check out the full overview of classes on the new class reveal page! Or catch the livestream reveal below! | Triad Wars: Halloween Event Now Underway Posted: 23 Oct 2015 01:46 PM PDT It's kind of refreshing to see a beta having a holiday event! It's not something I see everyday, and I feel like everyday, I do play some manner of alpha or beta. But not only is this a beta that includes a month-long Halloween event instead of one that just runs for one long period of time (sort of like WoW), but the Triad Wars Halloween Event runs over the course of October, a few days here and there, nice and spread out to keep people coming back for it. But what's the purpose and point? It's a great way to show off the diversity of the game as well as immerse yourself in Hong Kong culture. It's not an American Halloween, trick-or-treating, any of that boring stuff. No, in Triad Wars you are fighting demons, evil spirits, and a gigantic demon-cat in the culmination of the event. Halloween in Hong Kong is "Yue Lan", or Festival of the Hungry Ghosts, which has its roots in Ancient China. Normally it only lasts for 24 hours; but in Triad Wars, evil lurks on the surface for a lot longer. Even when an event is not happening, your minions in your hideout, and even regular citizens will have sinister, glowing eyes, hollow and white. The dead are lurking, possessing everyone in Hong Kong, and even committing crime isn't safe. Smiley Cat is looking for souls, and it's up to you, the criminal element of Hong Kong to do something about it. It sort of reminds me of the Yakuza doing clean up after a tragedy, or doing charitable works. What's in it for you though? Face or Honor, Money, and ultimately, epic rewards that come out of successfully completing the challenges. I missed the first part of the holiday, Fists of Fire, and as of this writing, Smiley Cats Revenge was not available quite yet. It will be later on today, and will extend til Nov. 2nd. But there's good news! If you are not in the beta and want to check out what this holiday is like, on Saturday, October 24th, Bottom Tier will be streaming the attack on Smiley Cat, called "Smiley Cats Revenge", and hopefully getting badass rewards for our troubles! These epic items are only available during the Halloween event, and they're pretty awesome to boot. You are well-rewarded for your defense of North Point. The entirety of North Point is eerie and the Full Moon rests over the sky at night. These ghouls are dangerous to fight without guns, but spraying in populated zones can be a hassle too. Now I did participate in half of this event so far. Banish The Yaoguai was pretty intense. The Yaoguai are stronger than normal Jiang Shi (undead) and come with a host of Jiangshi with them that did not appear to be killable with melee attacks. The Yaoguai are scattered across the city and you have to hunt them down, riding or running from location to location. They can teleport around you and deal considerable damage. Not to mention their posse' of undead fighting with them. Now my trusty pistol and AK had no problems killing these baddies, but that's always a risky move. If there are people are nearby, there's a good chance that one of those people is brave enough to call the cops. My first few attempts were met with death by Police Brutality. The Jiang Shi hunt was easier though. You searched the city for packs of Jiang Shi, abusing them with fist and bullet. I was prone to bullets, because I'm impatient and wanted them off my streets. Chaos makes it harder to commit crime after all. Smiley Cat though? You want to know how that's going to end? Well, you better make sure you tune in to "thebottomtier" on Twitch.tv, and watch us kick the snot out of evil spirits, get cool rewards, and perhaps offer a link to get you trying Triad Wars for yourself! Which you absolutely should do. The post Triad Wars: Halloween Event Now Underway appeared first on MMOHuts. |

| Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns Expansion Now Live Posted: 23 Oct 2015 11:54 AM PDT ArenaNet®, publisher and developer of the award-winning Guild Wars franchise, today launched Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. The highly anticipated expansion to Guild Wars 2 is now live and available at digital and retail stores across North America and Europe. The expansion to the PC MMO comes less than three months after ArenaNet announced that the core Guild Wars 2 game is available to play for free, a move that has significantly grown the game's player community. To highlight that growth, ArenaNet also released an infographic today announcing that Guild Wars 2 has reached more than 7 million player accounts globally. "This has been a memorable year for ArenaNet and our Guild Wars 2 player community," said Mike O'Brien, co-founder and president of ArenaNet. "We energized our fans in January with the announcement of Heart of Thorns as the first expansion to Guild Wars 2, and we've seen steady growth in our player base ever since. Our community is widely recognized as one of the best and friendliest in MMOs – many of our veteran players organized in starter zones to welcome new players the weekend we made the core Guild Wars 2 game free. We're eager to see how our fast growing community continues to flourish, and we hope they're eager to embrace where their Guild Wars 2 journey takes them next in Heart of Thorns." The new infographic from ArenaNet catalogues hard data and fun factoids that highlight the continuing popularity of Guild Wars 2 across the game, from open world players who focus on story content and world exploration to those who participate in the game's increasingly competitive Player vs. Player (PvP) and World vs. World (WvW) scenes. ArenaNet recently announced the launch of a $400,000 Guild Wars 2 Pro League PvP tournament, launched in partnership with ESL, and the infographic highlights how PvP player participation has grown by 135 percent since last year. There is a statistic showing that 40 percent of max level players showed up in starter zones to welcome new players the day the core game went free, showcasing the friendly reputation of the player community. Topping it all is an astronomical figure – more than 1.4 billion hours – totaling the amount of time players have put into Guild Wars 2 since launch, nearly the same time modern humans have spent walking the earth. Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns now extends the core game experience for this growing community as a paid expansion with a range of new content and features, including a unique new system called Masteries that redefines endgame character progression in Guild Wars 2. The expansion marks a couple of additional firsts for Guild Wars 2, introducing Guild Halls where guilds and groups of players can claim and customize a piece of the game world, and setting the stage for the first-ever Raids coming to the MMO and activating shortly after launch. As with the original Guild Wars 2, which delivered more than 40 major content updates without charging a subscription fee, players who purchase Heart of Thorns will have access to future releases coming to the expansion free of charge. Heart of Thorns continues the Guild Wars 2 journey for players with the next chapter in their Personal Story saga, where armies in the game world led by players go deep into the heart of the Maguuma jungle to take on a sinister elder dragon. It also brings new game modes, features and game play improvements that touch on nearly every aspect of the game. There is an all-new profession called the revenant along with elite specializations that add new weapons and skills to every existing profession in the game. There is brand new competitive game content with an all new PvP mode called Stronghold and the massive new Desert Borderlands map for the game's epic WvW warfare mode. Heart of Thorns also sets a strong foundation for endgame MMO content. Masteries introduce new ways to pursue skills and progress characters. Raids and new Fractal dungeons deliver extremely challenging group content. There are new ways for players to earn Legendary rewards. For competitive players, there are in-game systems and leaderboards such as PvP Leagues and Guild Challenger Leagues that pave the way for players to develop skills to compete at an elite level.
