Synthetic Empires Join Galactic Civilizations III Beta

Posted: 11 Dec 2014 03:02 PM PST

Galactic Civilizations Yord

Stardock released today the third major beta update for its genre-defining space strategy game, Galactic Civilizations III, further enhancing and altering the strategies that lead to galactic dominance. Available now for a beta-discounted price of $44.99 at http://store.steampowered.com/app/226860/, Beta 3 adds the synthetic Yor race to the struggle for interstellar dominance: aggressive inorganic sentients who offer players a wholly new experience by completely ignoring the rules around farming and population growth.

Galactic Civilizations III is the next installment in one of the highest-rated strategy series of all time, created by the original developers at Stardock. Players expand their space empires across galaxies that range up to enormous maps only possible thanks to Galactic Civilizations III‘s 64-bit engine, which allows both Stardock and modders to put an effectively unlimited amount of content in the game. Unique tech trees for each of the game’s eight races and multiple victory conditions give a huge number of ways to play – not even counting custom races, ships, maps, and franchise-first online multiplayer.

Galactic Civilizations III Beta 3 also includes the first pass on ship combat animation, so players can watch their intricate original designs trade flaming death with Stardock-created ships from the main map view. Damage is now reflected, so players may want to consider a trip to the shipyard for that fleet trailing smoke and flame after a pitched battle. This early taste of deep-space combat is only an appetizer for the more detailed combat depictions to come.

The first of many cutscenes have been added to Beta 3 as well, so prepare accordingly. Mark your first capital ship’s launch, planetary invasion commenced, anomaly explored, and more with these gorgeous vignettes hand-crafted by Stardock’s in-house cinematic team.

User Tezmagorian was recently voted the winner of the first Galactic Civilizations III Ship Designer Contest by the community, beating out more than 180 high-quality entries and seven other finalists to ultimately win a $1,000 cash prize. All eight finalists’ ships are to be added to the retail game, highlighting Stardock’s commitment to and interaction with its beta community. See more at http://www.galciv3.com/shipdesignercontest.

‘Wurm Online’ Expands With New Gameplay Mode & New Features

Posted: 11 Dec 2014 02:12 PM PST

Wurm 2014 Trailer

Independent games developer and publisher Code Club AB is proud to announce a new 'Challenge' gameplay mode available today, in addition to a host of other cool features and additions to their popular Wurm Online virtual world.

Conceived in 2003 and released in 2006, Wurm Online is a 3D massively multiplayer online RPG, and is often described as the ultimate survival MMO. Featuring player versus player combat and realm versus realm combat, Wurm Online has continuously grown and gained popularity since its original release.

The new 'Challenge' mode is a massive 8×8 kilometer player versus player server featuring the three kingdoms in an intimate struggle for total domination, and features full loot on fallen friends and foes. The server and current Challenge stay persistent for the duration of one month, and scoreboards are presented with winners in different categories, each receiving special rewards and prizes at the end. The premise of the new Challenge mode is to take grinding and timers more or less out of the equation, and put emphasis on the fun in creative chaos. To achieve this, characters on the server begin with sufficient amount of skills to enjoy the worlds vast set of features and crafting instantly. With enemies pushing your kingdom’s borders you need to pull together with your fellow players and build the battlefield to your advantage.

In addition to the new gameplay mode, Code Club are also adding other enhancements to the game: Siege weapons such as the trebuchet, ballista and siege shield offers players new means of attack, and new defensive capabilities are introduced such as spike barriers, archery towers and magic turrets strengthening the defense. Resource spawns now exist at certain places providing quick means of procuring materials for building and crafting and creating strategic points for conflict.

The new Challenge mode allows players to reach higher skill levels and access content a lot quicker than usual, and players can monitor and follow online progress, results, standings and other data for future references. Each month, winners will be announced, prizes awarded, and the server reset. After a grace period of approximately 5-10 days, another Challenge is created, possibly adding new features, settings and goals.

Smite Dev Talk Reveals Awilix

Posted: 11 Dec 2014 02:10 PM PST

Awilix Card Art

Today, Smite‘s devs revealed the Mayan Goddess Awilix and her companion jaguar, Suku. Goddess of the Moon, Awilix is a light-hearted, gentle soul who represents both lunar and night aspects, and has an assassin role.

Smite Awilix Model

Awilix’s style of attack is different, starting with her auto attack. Awilix uses her spear to attack with a longer range and narrower cone than most basic attacks. Auto attacking also enables Awilix’s second active, Feather Step.

Awilix Auto

Feather Step is active when Awilix has hit a target in the last 1.5 seconds. This ability allows you to flip over your target and attack them from behind. The damage scales from where you are in the auto attack chain, with the third attack of the chain enabling an AoE attack instead of a single target attack. In addition, Awilix is untargetable while flipping.

Smite Suku model

Awilix’s first ability, Summon Suku, summons her jaguar as a mount. This increases her run speed, but dramatically decreases strafing speed. While no abilities can be used while Suku is mounted, there will be an active target reticule in front of the character. When used, Suku pounces, letting Awilix leap in and deal damage to the location while dismounting. This ability’s cooldown is only triggered by the leap, and players can mount and dismount without triggering a cooldown.

Awilix Ult

Awilix’s third and ultimate abilities also have strong synergy. Her ultimate, Gravity Surge, pulls the closest enemy in front of her that is knocked up or leaping to her and deals damage to them. The ability continues to boost her attack speed and power throughout the duration. Her third ability, Moonlight Charge, sends the spirit of Suku forward, dealing damage in a line in front of her. If this ability hits any enemies from behind, it knocks them into the air. This allows Awilix to force her opponents into a knock up in order to pull them to her with her ultimate. The devs note that anyone CC immune, such as players teleporting, cannot be pulled by this attack.

Awilix 3rd

You can gain insights from the developers and art team on Awilix at this new page, which also includes short videos of her abilities.

Year 0 Tactics: Released on Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire Tablets

Year0 Launch

Legendary Games have announced the release of their much-anticipated multi-player tactical combat game today, “Year 0 Tactics” on Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire tablets in the US, UK and Germany. Year 0 Tactics is powered by the Goo Engine, a robust WebGL and HTML5 graphics engine from Goo Technologies, and is the first 3D HTML5 game available on Fire TV.

“HTML5 is seen by many as the language of the future for games and applications but the question has been when will that future come?" said Ewan Lamont, CEO of Legendary Games. "The answer is now. We feel that the launch of Year 0 Tactics marks the birth of HTML5 as a serious platform for creating games good enough to take on native language applications. It has been a real privilege to have worked with Goo Technologies and Amazon on this project and we have at times really felt like the brave pioneers of the future making a small piece of history together.”
"We are thrilled that "Year 0 Tactics," with multi-player support, is now available on Fire TV and Fire tablets in the US, UK and Germany," said Steve Rabuchin, Vice President, Amazon Appstore. "By creating an HTML5 game, Legendary Games was able to create a game that is graphically rich and includes multi-player support, something our customers tell us they love having in their living rooms."
In Year 0 Tactics, players lead a vicious band of marauders in a post-apocalyptic tactical battle game. As play unfolds, you build your base, upgrade your troops, then raid and pillage other players for precious resources. All raids are real time, against real people in a turn-based war game.

The game is set in the same universe as the groundbreaking Year 0 but this time users get to play the marauders that were a constant plague to the bunker dwellers. Fans of tactical, turn-based, combat games and multi-player base building games will love Year 0 Tactics.
