Scarlet Blade Launches Closed Beta Test Posted: 13 Mar 2013 05:11 PM PDT The moment that thousands of fervent fans have been waiting for is finally here! Aeria Games, a leading global publisher of free-to-play online games, has begun the closed beta test for Scarlet Blade, the most anticipated massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) in the publisher's history. After incorporating the feedback from its limited alpha test, Scarlet Blade is now in the last stage before it officially launches.
Scarlet Blade takes place in the distant future after a devastating invasion by the insidious Narak has nearly eradicated the human race. Having retreated underground, the survivors genetically engineered the Arkana—warrior women possessing vastly augmented strength and abilities capable of surviving the uninhabitable surface.
Taking the role of commanders, players will guide their chosen Arkana through gorgeous open environments and group up to delve into perilous dungeons. The unique locales to explore include Drasilmarsh, a temple stronghold of the frog-like Batrachian race built into a giant tree, and the Derelict Tunnel, an abandoned mine and hideout of the seedy Buzzard drug cartel. A more dangerous threat lurks in the Bitterstone Core dungeon, where the traitorous humans of the Shadow Army conduct twisted experiments and schemes to support the Narak.
"This is a monumental day for Aeria Games and our vast community of dedicated fans," said JT Nguyen, Chief Operating Officer, Aeria Games. "Through its polished gameplay, huge PvP battles, and eye-catching visuals, Scarlet Blade has garnered one of the largest followings of any MMO that we've ever had the privilege to publish. We're very excited and confident that it will be a strong flagship title for many years to come."
Aeria Games is also offering Founder's Packs for players interested in getting a head-start with useful in-game items, as well as exclusive mounts and costumes that will never be offered again. Physical gifts, such as Scarlet Blade posters and flasks, are also available. For a limited time, players can visit the Founders page and check out these exclusive items offered in several different packages. |
Posted: 13 Mar 2013 04:04 PM PDT InnoGames released new detailed information today about the skill tree system in the upcoming Action-MMOG Kartuga. Players pick from three classes at the beginning of the game to determine an overarching play style: Engineer, Protector and Destroyer. From there, complete customization is accomplished through the comprehensive skill tree containing over 80 abilities. It’s possible to head in the direction of specific strengths or create an all-arounder with this method, giving the action game an identifying RPG component.
After climbing to the next level, skill points are awarded to unlock abilities freely within the tree. Each class brings with it a unique skill tree – The Engineer breaks off into three sub-classes with various types of abilities: Tinker, Atlanticus and Buoy Master. Atlantics aids in healing friendly units, Tinker specializes in debuffing enemy skills, and Buoy Master attacks individual enemies, or accelerates allied units. The Protector is the strongest class in defense, with a skill tree divided into Buwark – a heavy defender which is nearly unsinkable; Wrangler – which counts on melee skills like “Feel My Pain” and can always be found on the front line; and Suppressor – a slightly less armored sub-class, but features the precise and deadly “Watery Grave” skill. The Destroyer possesses Raider, Ravager, and Brawler. The Raider is nimble and highly maneuverable. In contrast, the Ravager has an “Aimed Shot” focusing mainly on distance shooting. The Brawler is the melee of the Destroyer builds. With its “Fiery Shield” and “Rapid Fire”, this sub-class has the ability to cause some real chaos. Kartuga players always have the possibility to reset the entire skill tree and put the earned points into other abilites, allowing changes quickly and easily. The key is to find that perfect mix of speed and ruggedness, attack and defense that suits each pirate’s style of play. Kartuga begins by choosing one of three customizable classes of ships to sail through a series of quests and missions. Recently, InnoGames announced that players can already try out two PvP-modes in the closed beta: Domination, a variation of classic king-of-the-hill, and Destruction, a mode where a bomb has to be detonated in the enemy team’s base. Next to four PvP maps, five areas of the large open world of Kartuga are accessible, enabling players to encounter NPCs and solve various quests in between PvP-matches. |

Master of Arcane Magic, the Control Wizard is a powerful spell-caster with a talent for stunning and disabling enemies. With abilities to cast powerful elemental and controlled magic, the Control Wizard can expertly assault a target from a distance. By skilfully managing his control effects, he is able to exploit the weaknesses of his enemies. Certainly, a Devoted Cleric can keep your party standing, the Guardian Fighter can go toe-to-toe with a dragon, and the Trickster Rogue can make sure that dragon dies, but the Control Wizard has the power to keep that dragon from ever reaching combat.

Elsword Reveals Raven’s Weapon Taker Class Posted: 13 Mar 2013 11:45 AM PDT Today Kill3rCombo, publisher of the hit free-to-play action MMORPG Elsword, unleashes its latest class for the dark and deadly character Raven. With intense firepower and a brand-new “overheat” mode, the Weapon Taker class turns Raven into a force to be reckoned with. This new class is part of the on-going Elsword Transformation series; a multi-month campaign delivering a new class for each of the six unique Elsword characters. Elsword’s mercenary character Raven becomes even more menacing with Weapon Taker’s new abilities. His giant metal claw turns into a virtual weapon of mass destruction with aggressive high-caliber attacks. Weapon Taker’s standout feature is a new “overheat” mode which deals extra incendiary damage to enemies, while injuring Raven himself. “Overheat” mode poses a particularly tricky strategic question for the game’s deep PvP mode, will players choose to do extra damage but leave themselves vulnerable as a result? Grafted on him against his will, Raven’s claw is central to his fighting style and his mercurial personality. While it gives him great power, Raven’s claw forever tempts him to unleash his rage in a carnival of wanton destruction. The result is a constant struggle to maintain sanity. As a Weapon Taker, Raven uses his mechanical prowess to modify his claw, giving it additional firepower and giving him another chance at control. |
Tactical Intervention – First Impressions Posted: 13 Mar 2013 10:25 AM PDT Tactical Intervention – First Impressions By Harry Ka-yan Cheung I took up arms in Tactical Intervention this time to see what this new first-person-shooter has to offer. When I first saw Tactical Intervention I thought it was just going to be another generic war-time shooter with no clear unique qualities to it but once I actually took the time to read the information provided and tried the game, I soon found out that I made an early assumption. Tactical Intervention is in its early stages of release and has some rough edges to work out but I can see some potential in its unique design. Source Engine Tactical Intervention was made with the source engine. Many will recognize the source engine as the base to some very popular titles such as Portal, Half-Life, and Team Fortress. I noticed it mainly because of the options screen which looks very familiar to many source games and it's not just the options screen; the interface as a whole very closely resembles other source game interfaces. I find this very friendly to newer players. Gameplay & Modes of Play Similar to all first-person-shooters, Tactical intervention offers a Team Death Match but a feature worth mentioning is the requisitions (kill streak bonuses). The requisitions are earned after getting 2, 3, 6, and 9 kills currently and offers many types of grenades and on the 9th kill, offers a special weapon (rocket launcher, grenade launcher, or machine gun). Missions are my favorite part of Tactical Intervention. There are two types of missions a player may choose from: "Hostage Situation" and "VIP Escort." The hostage situation is based around the two teams trying to rescue the hostages or prevent the hostages from escaping. In the hostage situation mode, every player is only granted a single life so one must use it wisely. In the VIP Escort mode, players on both teams must choose to be either a driver or passenger. Players on one team must chase the VIP and prevent the package from being delivered and obtain it themselves by disposing of the VIP. Players on the opposing need to escape with the VIP and deliver the package to a location to win the round. Once the package is dropped, the "Terrorist" may obtain it and have a player who is piloting the helicopter take it away. Driver Position Passenger (Shooting) Position Even though Tactical Intervention is in its early stages, the unique features the game and the source base of the programming show promise. I really enjoyed some of the gameplay and enjoyed playing with my friends. The only problem I see is the randomized team which also means I won't be able to play on the same team as my friends at times. |
