| Dig Dug parody video takes Ke$ha to the arcade Posted: 09 Feb 2013 02:00 PM PST
Destructoid contributor Ian Bonds was seemingly too humble to post this video. Either that, or he doesn't really love us as much as I thought, because this music video created to accompany his parody of Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" is the kind of thing you really ought to be showing the people you claim to care about. |
| More new sprites unveiled for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth Posted: 09 Feb 2013 01:00 PM PST Edmund McMillen has revealed a new sheet of sprites for the upcoming remake of his surprise hit game, The Binding of Isaac. In a post to his personal blog, McMillen accompanied the images with news that a large percentage of the original game's assets have now been recreated in the new style and that the artists are now working on animations. Once the old stuff has been transitioned over, the team will begin work on the new content. I've sunk more hours than I care to think about into The Binding of Isaac and the thought of getting an enhanced version with even more stuff to collect and honest-to-God controller support fills me with incredible dread. This could be the game that kills me. They'll say, "Hey, remember that Zimmerman guy who literally wasted into oblivion playing Binding of Isaac? What a tool." At least I'll die doing what I love. | Watch the first gameplay footage of Wasteland 2 Posted: 09 Feb 2013 11:00 AM PST
Interested in seeing what Brian Fargo's team at inXile has been doing with the gobs of money thrown at them by backers of its Wasteland 2 Kickstarter funding campaign? Then you'll enjoy this video which features a full fifteen minutes of gameplay footage with narration from producer Chris Keenan explaining all the elements. It's a bit ugly still, but there's plenty of time for the cosmetic stuff (and, really, the post-apocalypse should be ugly). The mechanics and implementation are what's impressive here, and we're given peeks into the structure of the dialogue system, application of skills, character movement, combat, and a lot more. The full video runs over 17 minutes, with a couple minutes of voice-acted radio snippets to help introduce things followed by nothing but pure gameplay. I was never sold on Wasteland 2, though I was thrilled to see that the funding was a success and that the game would see production. Despite being a big fan of the spiritually successive Fallout, the way in which the Kickstarter drive presented the project gave me concerns over whether or not I would still enjoy a game produced today with that design approach. I'm still not all the way there, but this helps a lot and I'll be very curious to see what people think of the game when it releases later this year. |
| Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes' level editor in action Posted: 09 Feb 2013 09:00 AM PST We haven't heard anything from Nicalis about their forthcoming 3DS/Wii U/and-maybe-other-consoles title Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes in a while. That's probably because they've been busy with stuff like Ikachan, Guxt, Raven, Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, and other unannounced projects. Looks like 1,001 Spikes is still in the works though. The level editor appears to be in full effect, and according to Nicalis President Tyrone Rodriguez, "is packing so much new content". Along with the new playable characters, modes, and multi-player, 1,001 Spikes is promising to be everything one could want from an "adventure and die" videogame experience. Though the promise of having new levels to play via fan elbow grease is exciting, what I'm really hoping for is a character editor. I really want to make a little Aban-style version of me that throws Gamecubes and stays happy even when murdered. Wait, I already did that, but it would be even better if I could put little Aban Holmeskins in the actual game, along with some custom made sprites of my pals. With or without these dream features, 1,001 Spikes is sure to be a horribly fun time. Stay tuned to Destructoid for more on its imminent release. |
| Dreamfall Chapters appears on Kickstarter Posted: 09 Feb 2013 07:00 AM PST Dreamfall Chapters was revealed by Ragnar Tørnquist late last year, to the delight of everyone that had been driven mad by Dreamfall: The Longest Journey's unsatisfying cliffhanger ending after it was released seven years ago. Like so many unexpected sequels, Dreamfall Chapters is using Kickstarter to become a reality, and it looks like that was a smart move -- it's already secured almost $440,000 of its $850,000 goal. The Kickstarter page provides a wealth of information for the ravenous masses, including confirmation that the adventure will again span the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia with three playable characters, one of whom will be Zoë Castillo, returning from the previous title. The second playable character will be revealed during the Kickstarter campaign, so we won't have long to wait. Call me crazy, but I'm hoping to play as Crow. |
| Poll: Violent videogames more dangerous than guns Posted: 09 Feb 2013 06:00 AM PST Apparently, violent videogames are more dangerous than guns. That's what 67 percent of Republicans think, anyway. Over two thirds of those surveyed in a recent national poll believe plastic discs are a "bigger safety threat in America" than deadly projectile weapons. Only 14 percent found the opposite to be true, while the remaining 19 percent were unsure. These are just opinions, of course. If there's anything the climate debate has taught us over the past decade it's that science doesn't have much of a place in modern American politics. Despite the complete lack of empirical evidence to support theories alleging videogames cause violent behavior, politicians and pundits in the media continue to drum up fear and paranoia in the public and vilify things they obviously don't understand. | Live show: A bug hunting Hangover Posted: 09 Feb 2013 04:00 AM PST With the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines around the corner, I have bug hunts on the brain. And, to my mind, there's no better bug hunt to have on the couch with some friends than a little Earth Defense Force. Jordan and I will be diving into that, along with our weekly dose of Xbox Live Indie Games demos (there's at least one perv-your-own-adventure this week) and we'll switch on the Wii U to see all the latest contributions to the Willem Dafoe Miiverse community. It's all happening right now over on Dtoid TV! |
| Pokémon Black and White 2 getting hilarious event Pokémon Posted: 09 Feb 2013 03:00 AM PST Every once in a while Nintendo emerges from its ivory tower to participate in special charity events where it provides free Pokémon for the unwashed washes to enjoy. Sometimes they're cool, other times you get Magikarp. Surprise! This time it's Magikarp. The Pokémon Center in Nagoya, Japan will be dishing out the golden fish from March 20 to May 6. But this isn't your run-of-the-mill useless Magikarp. Oh, no! This is a talented level 99 shiny Magikarp that knows Flail, Hydro Pump, Bounce and Splash. And he's in possession of some sweet, delicious rare candy. What a badass. ポケモンセンターナゴヤが、松坂屋名古屋店に移転して3月20日にオープン、オープン記念のポケモン“金のコイキング”プレゼントも [Famitsu] |
