One Shots A fool's game
That's one big chicken, Scott. A big chicken indeed. Why do you need a chicken that big? Should we alert the authorities about animal abuse? Is this a Scandinavian Thanksgiving ritual? Are you attempting to prove the Rooster Road Theorem?

Perhaps I should let Scott explain: "I was recently informed you guys brought back One Shots. Well, here I am bringing you three one of my escapades in Guild Wars 2. Here, Nerrath's found dinner! You guys may or may not remember the several screenshots from Champions Online's Legion of Laughter that made it into the previous iteration of One Shots. Well, we're still going strong on the Crystal Desert server as the Order of the Fool!"

Feast your eyes on Scott's chicken and more after the break.

The Daily Grind: Are you for or against casting while moving?

The Daily Grind Are you for or against casting while moving
With the new guard of MMOs this year comes an unexpectedly interesting shift in game design: the removal of movement restrictions from casting. Titles like The Secret World and Guild Wars 2 have thrown out this age-old tradition in favor of a more mobile casting environment. All of the sudden, spellcasters have found their "game legs" -- but is this a good thing? And do you want to see it spread across the MMO industry?

Those in the traditionalist camp might say that allowing casters to discover the joys of bipedal locomotion will greatly unbalance games as we know them. They claim that it's a necessary weakness to counterbalance the massive ranged damage and abilities that such classes are capable of doing. And there is the possibility that it is another spot of erosion on the uniqueness defining these roles.

Let's give it up to you to decide today: Are you for or against casting while moving?

Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

      Gloria Victis hits Kickstarter
Black Eye Games is an indie studio trying to bring MMOs back to the Dark Ages, and the team needs your help to do that. The team has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund Gloria Victis, an MMORPG that harkens back to the good old days of gaming.

The listed perks of Gloria Victis include a combat system that steers away from lazy targeting and homing projectiles; magic that is reserved for elite skills rather than handed out to every character upon birth; historically accurate medieval weaponry and armor; and a classless system that allows for unrestricted character development. The game will be free-to-play with a cash shop that provides only cosmetic and quality of life goods.

Check out the game's Kickstarter to get better acquainted with its development direction.

Taking the high road with DDO's Update 16

Taking the high road with DDO's Update 16
You know how the saying goes: Neither wind nor rain nor hurricane will keep Turbine from its appointed rounds. While the studio lost power due to this past week's Hurricane Sandy, all of its games kept on ticking. Dungeons and Dragons Online Senior Producer Eric Boyer said the studio is generally hurricane-proof. "The servers are in a secret location powered by magic and are not affected by anything," he laughed. "Well, most anything."

We spoke with Boyer on the phone about DDO's second post-expansion update, which is loosely scheduled to hit the game in a couple of weeks. Update 16: The Netherese Legacy will continue the Forgotten Realms storyline that began with Menace of the Underdark and Update 15. It's an update that takes us down a famous path, introduces a new enemy faction, and gives additional love to the fledgling Druid class.

The Mog Log: Roleplaying (community) drama

Well, the show's over, everyone. Nothing you do in Final Fantasy XIV matters any longer, in both the cosmic sense and the more immediate one. I hope you got what you wanted to get finished all done!

This does not mean that what we do as a community doesn't matter; it always matters. It matters whether the servers are on or off. And that segues nicely into the latest community brouhaha that I've been witnessing, which is essentially a roleplaying schism handled in the way that only roleplaying schisms can happen. Roleplayers are one of the only groups that can still be just as active regarding a game we're not currently playing, odd though it might seem.

I've touched on the Final Fantasy XIV roleplaying community more than once in the past. For some of you, I'm sure this is more or less irrelevant. But seeing as how the game's last save has taken place and there are no more relevant discussions to be had regarding drop rates, quest difficulty, or anything else, would it really be so bad to take a step over and look at how the character-building half lives?

The Tattered Notebook An appraisal of Krono
The dust has barely settled from our yearly foray to Bally's, and already we're seeing some of the exciting news from SOE Live become a reality. Just a few days ago, we saw the arrival of Krono to EverQuest II, and out of all the news about EQII, it has the potential to be the biggest game changer of all. Basically, Norrath now has its own version of EVE Online's PLEX.

In this week's Tattered Notebook, we'll take a look at exactly how Krono works, but we'll also examine how this could lead to even bigger changes in EverQuest II.
