Blizzard is now implementing a policy for Heroes of the Storm where, based on specific world economies, prices may drop to adjust to their particular currency. As of today, Mexico's prices have been reduced by 40% across the board for real money purchases. Some regions in Asia are also reportedly getting a cut as well.
This is a pretty great feature overall, I have to say. Although it's easy to get skeptical about it being for promotional purposes, countries with hurting economies can still benefit from relaxing a bit from the stress and enjoying some video games.
On the latest episode of Destructoid's flagship podcast, Darren Nakamura reports on his weekend at the Music and Gaming Festival, friend of the show Hayden Dingman joins the crew to talk Devil Daggers, and we interview Tom Lipschultz, a localization specialist at XSEED Games, about Return to PopoloCrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale and much, much more.
On the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End has been delayed for the third time. This time, the delay is only for an additional two weeks.
The president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, Shawn Layden, said "In an effort to meet the considerable worldwide demand, and to ensure that all gamers worldwide have the opportunity to play the game on day one, we have chosen to postpone the launch of the game by two weeks to allow for extra manufacturing time."
Extra manufacturing time makes it sound like there may be issues in printing and shipping discs, or perhaps that fancy special edition statue is causing delays. The exact reason is unclear.
The worldwide release date for Nathan Drake's final huzzah is now May 10, 2016.
Let's get the potshot out of the way. Wow, this Lightning cosplay looks so much like a CG model -- perfectly captures Lightning's lack of emotion! Of course, we know that there's a lot of depth behind Claire "Lightning" Farron. A a warm personality and deep inner life shined through at times when I interviewed her back in January.
But on to the sincerest form of flattery: imitation!
Cosplayer Kilory did her best Lightning with help from photographer ouzi and the results? They're very good. I think it's the mix of nailing the stoic poses, but also getting those action shots crisp with flowing, frozen cloth. You may have seen her in a whole host of Lightning outfits (and other nice costumes).
If you've spent any amount of time playing Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 online, you undoubtedly see Rose when you close your eyes at night. There she is, way off in the distance, grinning. She knows you can't escape her homing shots. And even if you did, there's never just one Rose. They travel in packs! Players and PopCap agree: she's overpowered.
"Rose was conceived as a support role/specialist, not a primary damage dealer, and we've been working on rebalancing her to fit that role," the studio said in a blog post today. "This fix is going to be implemented very soon and we thank you for your patience and incredible support while we get it ready."
For the time being, might I suggest fighting back with the Scientist? The Marine Biologist variant in particular is adept at taking Rose out before she can cast spells. You just need to get in close enough. To that end, I've had good luck teaming up with a second healer to sneak behind enemy lines and wipe out whole groups of Rose players. They tend to bunch up in the back.
Besides the balance update, PopCap is also preparing its first free DLC: the Graveyard Variety Pack (shown above). It's a "trip back to Suburbia," apparently, but that's about all we know.
Free post-release multiplayer maps and character variants are to be expected for Garden Warfare 2, and the same could be said of optional microtransactions. Based on this European PlayStation Blog post, it sounds like players will be able to spend real money on coin packs as early as this Thursday, March 3. No word on pricing yet, though.
I didn't pay for coins in the first game and I don't see that changing here. Aside from the legendary characters that are (I think) only earnable in Infinity mode, I already have 'em all.
Fallout 4's similarity to the rest of Bethesda's recent oeuvre didn't keep it from making a boat load of cash (the season pass just went up in price!) and getting nominated for a boat load of award.
It's okay, though. Fans are slowly but surely making Fallout 4 into the game they want it to be thanks to the power of modding. Here's reddit's Hazza42 with a post, "Since Fallout 4 doesn't have weapon condition, I decided to try and animate what it might look like."
Of course, this isn't a mod you can add to you game yet, but, "Once the creation kit is out I might try my hand in making this an actual mod." And it's not just aesthetic detail -- it could go deeper than that. "I like the idea of a plasma rifle breaking and you getting irradiated, or a Fat Man falling apart and you have to catch the mini nuke before it hits the ground in front of you."
Five years of Dawn of War II: Retribution. My goodness. It doesn't feel like it has been then long at all, but then, anniversaries like this have a way of sneaking up on me. Relic and Sega were keeping track, at least. While there's no surprise Dawn of War III announcement today (darn), there is news of a long-awaited character arrival and another patch for the 2011 strategy game.
For five days beginning March 10, 2016, players can nab the Necron Overlord for free for use in the Last Stand survival mode. He is "by far the most-requested addition," according to the developer, who designed him with a mix of long-range and area-of-effect melee playstyles. After that initial giveaway window (March 15 and on), the Overlord will cost $9.99.
The new patch addresses a handful of issues in Retribution culled from community feedback:
Replaced the weapons for the supporting members of Imperial Guard Heavy Weapon Squad. The ranged weapons of the supporting squad members were removed in an earlier bug patch.
The Hardcore Steam achievement now unlocks after beating wave 20 in the Last Stand Anvil of Khorne Map.
Progress on Last Stand weapon achievements is now being recorded correctly.
Fixed a crash that occurred when the Chaos Sorcerer cloned the Tau Shas’O Commander’s drone.
Fixed a crash that occurred when first encountering the Eldar in the Space Marine campaign.
Fixed a crash that occurred when crossing the bridge in the Dark Portal mission of the Ork Campaign.
Added multiple colors in the army painter. Due to new colors for the Necron, there are new colors for everyone!
Relic also outlined some bugs it hasn't been able to fix yet -- Windows 10 crashes, broken Steam invites, Last Stand not launching -- and noted that its work isn't finished yet. "Keep playing, keep your feedback coming, and together we’ll continue to improve!"
Cool to see continued support like this, but uh, Dawn of War III? Please? There's clearly interest!
My relationship with Twilight Princess is one of the most complicated I've come across in my entire gaming career. I completed it within a week of its launch on the Wii, and was left underwhelmed. It wasn't necessarily the waggle controls as they weren't egregiously pointless like some Skyward Sword bits -- it just didn't feel like a Zelda game in many ways.
But years later, I rediscovered it on the GameCube, and found myself connecting with it more. The dungeon design, for one, is simply wonderful, and it contains some of the best zones in the series. But I still had that lingering feeling of disappointment regarding many of the experience's core tenets.
With Twilight Princess HD on the Wii U, I had yet another reawakening. It may not be the best Zelda game, but it's a fantastic adventure.
No need to wait for the holidays for a PlayStation 4 deal. If you're eyeing a machine for some big upcoming titles, there are two decent PS4 bundle offers on eBay this week. Your choice in deal-grabbing involves a $50 discount, or a $60 bonus.
Two retailers, NewEgg and Techoutlet, are unloading PS4 bundles on their respective eBay storefronts with holiday-like values. Techoutlet has the $50 discount, slashing the Uncharted collection bundle to a mere $299 (Black Friday-level pricing). NewEgg on the other hand is pawning off the Black Ops III bundle for $350 plus a free copy of Far Cry Primal (~$60 value).
Both of these bundles ship free in the continental US and have sales tax charged in only a handful of states. NewEgg's PS4 bundle only carries tax in CA, IN, NJ, and TN. Techoutlet's $299 PS4 sales tax covers a few more states: CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KY, MA, NV, NJ, NY, NC, PA, TN, TX, UT, and WA (18 / 50 for those counting).
There are a limited-quantity available, but there doesn't appear to be a danger of either selling out today. NewEgg's Black Ops + Far Cry Primal bundle has a total of 1,000 available and has only sold 114 since going live this morning at 8:00am Pacific. Techoutlet's bundle has a total of 2,000 available at that price and has only sold 184 at the time of writing.

Another major video game publisher will not have an E3 booth presence. Call of Duty publisher Activision is skipping out on floor space, just like Electronic Arts.
Activision explained in a blog post, "we’re going to be at E3 showcasing gameplay from Infinity Ward’s ambitious new game. We’re looking forward to sharing exciting new details about the next great Call of Duty game in partnership with our friends at PlayStation. We’re proud to be participating in this premier video game event, but won’t have an Activision booth on the show floor."
It makes some sense. Sony will be pimping Call of Duty and Destiny hard for the company, why deck out all that expensive floor space with giant A/V technologies to, what, show off Skylanders to a few more GameStop managers? EA's got a decent idea hosting an E3-adjacent event where it can demo all of its E3 lineup to the public.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer is a man who is always on his PR A-game. He is the pure embodiment of PR, possibly not even human. I could probably be convinced that Microsoft created him in a lab while in pursuit of the perfect creature who never misspeaks. That's Phil.
As such, Phil (we're on a first-name basis) seemingly gets free rein on Twitter because no one is worried that he'll say the wrong thing. Phil ain't gonna fuck up; Phil's got this. He's a wild stallion galloping through the Twitterverse, glorious mane flowing in the wind.
Every now and then, Phil goes on a streak of talking to a whole bunch of fans before going back to running one of the biggest video game platform-holders. Sometimes people are nice and sometimes people are mean. Sometimes people just suck.
One person asked Phil what games he's looking forward to. Among them is Uncharted 4. A reply came in saying "'Xbox Head' talking about how great UC4 will be, just wave the white flag already. This is embarrassing sad to say." Phil shot back "We should all applaud when a team does something special. Those who hope for [a] team to fail due to platform aren't real gamers."
Ha! Now the whole world thinks this guy isn't a real gamer. Classic.
This isn't anything new for Phil either. Just last month, he shut down some guy who vowed not to buy Quantum Break because it was also coming to Windows 10 PC. The lesson here is that you probably shouldn't come at Phil on Twitter. You're going to lose.
For many, the Final Fantasy series is a rich source of cherished memories. Whether it's meeting a doomed flower girl on the neo-futuristic streets of Midgar, suplexing a ghost train, or devoting endless hours to Triple Triad, the seminal role-playing franchise is responsible for some of the most powerful moments in gaming. It's the sort of passion-inciting juggernaut whose fans can spend years clambering for a remake of one of its most dearly held entries, and then be driven into a sobbing rage when confronted with the terriblereality of said remake.
Picking up where Brett left off, we have a few more details on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 retail release of Rocket League. The multiplayer sports title will hit store shelves in Q3 2016 as Rocket League: Collector's Edition with the three big add-ons (Supersonic Fury, Revenge of the Battle-Cars, Chaos Run) and "several retail-exclusive bonuses that have yet to be announced."
I haven't seen any retailer listings pop up yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see this priced at $29.99 considering 1) the packaged-in DLC and 2) people will pay that much. The Back to the FutureDeLorean add-on wasn't mentioned in the announcement, so I assume that's out.
Developer Psyonix is partnering with 505 Games for this run at retail. The publisher also represents Terraria and Payday and is, I'm just now learning, "part of the Digital Bros Group."
Star Wars is no longer the Internet's cool thing. I know that because I have an account on Twitter.com and almost no one is drooling over Star Wars like they were in December. Instead, it's all Oscar talk and Bernie Sanders (two subjects that I also do not care about).
Even if the timing isn't as perfect as it could be, a second Star Wars Humble Bundle started today. The deal's the same as usual, pay what you want and get more games the more you pay. Some of it even goes to charity and most people would agree that's a good thing.
I last previewed Quantum Break at E3 2013, a lifetime ago, and had my reservations around the interlaced television show aspect that must have come from Microsoft's then "sports, sports, television" strategy that saw the studio trying to create a host of original programming (the same era bore Kinect-shackled Xbox Ones at too high a price).
Now here we are, four years after work on Quantum Break started at Remedy (Max Payne, Alan Wake). And I still have my reservations about the live-action television program, which I've seen one episode of (it's fine, but kind of boilerplate network gun-thriller stuff). There are four in total (22 minutes each) that separate the games five acts.
Each is focused on the bad guys, the super corporation Monarch headed by an aged, future version of the protagonist's old friend (Carcetti from The Wire and he's in Game of Thrones I guess) and each is preceded by a gameplay section (also starring the bad guys) wherein you make a major decision that affects the live-action footage you see and beyond.
We told you yesterday that an Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta was probably definitely happening this weekend; now we can confirm that it's definitely definitely happening. We have the information straight from the horse's mouth. (What a weird idiom. Horses not named "Ed" don't talk.)
PlayStation Blog says that multiplayer beta will run this weekend from March 4 9am Pacific until March 6 11:59pm Pacific. The purpose is to stress test the servers. The idea is to get all the kinks worked out before the game actually launches. Sometimes that approach works, sometimes it doesn't.
The eager beavers out there can take preparatory measures by downloading the file right now. Then when Friday rolls around, they can get right to the murder, murder, murder like they're Ja Rule.
Blizzard finally did it -- it put my favorite Diablo class into Heroes of the Storm with Xul, the Necromancer. While he sadly doesn't sport the Blood Golem, he has just about everything else from Diablo II, and from an aesthetic standpoint, his kit is glorious.
I'm sort of concerned about where he fits into most casual team compositions, but in the meantime, he's fun to play.
Cossacks? Old news. I'm only snickering a little bit that their name sounds like "cocksacks." We've got ocean effects up in the hood now, man. This map's sparkling like never before. The latest Europa Universalis IV expansion opens up the briny deep to control...trade routes, that is. Not like some Aquaman business. Could he control the water or just the fish? All species of sea life? I mean dolphins are mammals that's kind of messed up, one step from being able to control us.
"Mare Nostrum," which is coming "soon." will disrupt EUIV naval strategies. "For example, your coastal provinces produce sailors who will be needed to man and repair the warships and transports you have come to rely on. A new mission system for naval orders simplifies naval management, and the Barbary Coast nations of North Africa can now raid their neighbors for gold and sailor conscripts."
Etrian Odyssey V: The End of the Long Myth is coming to Japan for 3DS on August 4, according to Famitsu. It's the first main, numbered entry in the series since 2013's Etrian Odyssey IV. No more mystery dungeons for us anymore, thanks. Well, different kinds, at least.
The sequel is set in Arcadia, a neat four-race land (Arslan, Lunaria, Cerian, Brani). Series character designer Yuji Himukai is returning for that role; you'll be able to alter the colors of his work in the character designer, as well as give you character some heterochromia. A range of voice actors are offered for the first time, too.
According to a Gematsu translation of director Shigeo Komori, "The concept for the latest game is character customization with a high degree of freedom and dungeon exploration that tickles your adventurous spirit, as well as consistent battles and growth." Development is 60% done, but the plans are to design it in a way where it's, "harder to make a well-rounded team; all the classes have very specific roles, like in the first Etrian Odyssey."
I'm still completely unsure about Umbrella Corps -- worried even -- but Capcom is keen on continuing to share information for it, so I'll at least listen in from a distance. The next mode is called "Multi Mission," and the entire gimmick is that it randomly cycles through eight gametypes.
That sounds...okay I guess? I mean, a few of them are standard rulesets like "deathmatch" and "domination" that are already in a million other shooters, but hopefully the more unique ones will stand out. Check out the full list below.
Razer has a funny ol’ reputation in gaming. While some question the quality-to-price ratio of its peripherals, others almost fanatically proclaim Razer as the best in the business.
Despite being a PC gamer for years now, I’ve never really been able to try out Razer products for more than a few minutes at events. So when the chance to have a play with the Kraken Mobile headset came up, I leapt at the opportunity.
While it certainly isn’t the best one I’ve used, I’ve been pleasantly surprised at what this mid-range headset has to offer.
Konami has dated the Metal Gear Online expansion, "Cloaked on Silence." It is coming out in two weeks, March 15. Quiet, who moves faster and has a temporary cloak, is bundled in the $3.99 piece of DLC, which includes three new maps (Coral Complex, Rust Palace, and Azure Mountain).
A new mode, Survival, is launching April 7. It features teams of six competing on random maps and missions for the highest win streak to gain greater reward. Without "Cloaked in Silence," you're limited to 10 Survival matches per week (resetting every Tuesday), though those who buy the DLC can play Survival an unlimited amount. There's also a new mode, Sabotage, which tasks teams with destroying or Fulton'ing enemies' missiles.
You could also buy emotes at a couple bucks a pop if you want to give Konami money.
While I wasn't huge on Majora's Mask as a kid, it did grow on me, just like a few other Zelda games. MasenkoProps seems like they're still pretty big on it though, and for good reason -- it has some of the best lore, locales, and art design in the series.
Take this Deku Mask for example, which looks like a near 1:1 recreation of the in-game item. It's $130, which isn't cheap, but hey, we can at least look at it on the Internet and appreciate it right?
I take my fighting game tier lists with a grain of salt, and not the upset/bitter/meme kind. This is not any sort of distrust in the peer-developed meta, though it can be "wrong," or at least narrow-minded, with alleged balance issues sometimes working themselves out with new counter strategies and so on. No, my grain stems from the fact that my fighting game character choices are always aesthetic. Who looks the coolest, basically. I am shallow like that.
There's some grandfathering going on, too, which is why I continue to main Ken for the better part of a couple decades and despite the fact that he is currently 13th out of 16 in Event Hubs' community-culled tier list.
2016 Steven probably wouldn't touch Ken, especially not this yoga'd out, man-bun version with a stupid top, but as the Ryu underdog of Street Fighter II, he comes with some nostalgia. Not to mention that Dhalsim is probably Street Fighter V's best design -- his throw is amazing and the much springier animation in his trademark extendo-limbs is welcomed. He sits just outside the top 5 in the tier list, which goes:
1. M. Bison 2. Chun-Li 3. Nash 4. Karin 5. Vega
Laura, whom I considered as an alternate main, is good for 15th best out of 16. Did I mention my SFIV alternate main was Sakura? I got a thing for underdogs, I guess. Though I was considering giving Chun-Li a shake, which would put me on the right side of power. Anyways, it'll be fun as this all gets flipped on its head down the line.
Pokkén Tournament might be an easier to game for newcomers to acclimate to at first, but it will have some advanced maneuvers to satiate hardcore players -- I mean, it kind of has to if it's going to make a push for tournament play, right?
In this newest video Nintendo gives you a better look at said combos, whether it's from faster characters or the slower bruisers like Machamp. One even involves an assist, which is giving me Marvel flashbacks.
Fun fact I realized during my first Tokyo Game Show: Square Enix publishes Call of Duty in Japan. Or at least did, until Sony ended up publishing Black Ops III in Japan on PS3 and PS4 (Microsoft did the same on Xbox in Japan).
And whatever deal Sony brokered to make PlayStation the official console of Call of Duty means it makes a weird kind of sense that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia President Atsushi Morita challenged Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda in Black Ops III.
Unfortunately, the new Japanese Call of Duty publisher was trounced by spurned Square Enix. The proceedings were live streamed on Nico Nico and uploaded by Dual Shockers. The two execs lead their teams in the first two matches. Morita went 4/21 and 5/21, Matsuda went a slightly more admirable 6/19 and 13/21. The two then let their underlings play four more matches with Square taking three of four and one draw.
The publisher has announced a FIG crowdfunding campaign for Rock Band 4, which will apparently benefit the core game as a platform and fund a PC version. Within an hour of its announcement it hit approximately $20,000 of its lofty $1,500,000 goal, with 35 days left. Rewards at lower tiers of the campaign basically involve free digital copies of their other releases, 30 bonus tracks at the $49 level and above, and the PC edition of Rock Band 4 when it launches.
When it does eventually hit Steam, it will retail for $59.99 with 65 songs. Instruments are sold separately. I wonder how this will turn out. All signs point to...not great?
The mysterious PS4 update 3.5 is starting to come to shape due to the beta program, which starts tomorrow, and has been detailed on the PlayStation Blog. First off, appear offline (finally!) is coming to the system, as is better friend notifications, scheduled events (this will be nice for raids), a more detailed party screen, and Dailymotion support.
The best part? PC and Mac remote play is 100% confirmed, and even though it won't be in the beta, it's going to come at some point. These are all great changes, and a few of them have been requested for years on end by PSN users, so good on Sony. Though the ability to change your account name would be nice at some point too, it doesn't seem likely.
There are also some vague details on "new content, including new areas, abilities, more story sequences, multiple difficulty modes, fast travel between areas, and more." Ori: Definitive Edition was actually at the Microsoft event where I played Quantum Break, but I still haven't played Ori, so I couldn't tell you more specifically what's different. Sorry! There are two new abilities, though, and two new environments. Also an easy mode and an even-harder mode.
Livelock reveals Vanguard, the second playable character in the action shooter. Vanguard acts as a front-line fighter with strong defense and a massive hammer.
Europa Universalis IV announces Mare Nostrum, the next expansion coming to the strategy title. Mare Nostrum will introduce new naval warfare and trade systems.
Project CARS reveals its ninth DLC, the US Race Car Pack, which includes the Chevrolet Corvette C7 .R, Aston Martin Vantage GT12, Dallara DW12 INDYCAR, and FORD Fusion Stockcar.
