Do you have a Nintendo Account? There's no rush, and they don't appear to do anything just yet, but you can sign up for one right this very second if you'd like.

These accounts will eventually be good for a number of things, including loyalty rewards, and hook into the company's upcoming mobile apps. Speaking of which, pre-registration for Miitomo is supposed to open tomorrow. Why bother? For points, of course! Gotta stock up.

To expedite the account-creation process, you can log in with an existing Nintendo Network ID (that thing you use to post funky stuff on Miiverse), and most if not all of the fields will be filled out.

You can still get Fallout 4's Season Pass for $24 until March 1

In a twist of sorts, those who bought the Fallout 4 "mystery" Season Pass early may actually have won out in a pricing sense.

Bethesda finally revealed more information on the three upcoming Fallout 4 DLC packs, and with it came a price increase announcement for the Season Pass, from $29.99 to $49.99. The saving grace is that the company isn't going to start charging more until March 1, 2016.

This means you can still get the Fallout 4 Season Pass for $24 from Green Man Gaming (and any other authorized retailer with a discount) until the month ends.

Given the eventual price difference, it was no surprise that Season Pass copies at GMG actually went "out of stock" earlier in the day as Fallout 4 fans picked up the discounted DLC bundle.

If you want potentially more savings, you can roll the dice and wait to see if GMG introduces a newer site-wide code with a bigger discount, as we've seen 22 to 23 percent off codes in recent months. Or, if you still haven't gotten Fallout 4 yet, this may be even more reason to wait for the eventual GOTY edition.

Many of you thought I was joking when I suggested that rapper Lupe Fiasco was going to kick the ass of Daigo "The Beast" Umehara in Street Fighter V. But that's why I'm paid the big bucks while other hack ass pundits sit there and make predictions without any culpability, from that scream-y finance guy on television to ESPN's "Bold predictions" segments where talking heads are actually encouraged to make up bullcrap fantasies.

I was right. Lupe won. Kanye likes his ass eaten. Doubters are contractually obligated to buy Tetsuo & Youth or PayPal me the equivalent retail price (converted from local currencies if abroad).

And so how does Lupe's victory reflect in Shoryuken's Street Fighter V rankings? Well, Daigo pulling second best in the world in back-to-back games is impressive, but my boy Lu holds the top tournament ranking spot for the time being.

That Tron runner false starts on Xbox, pushed back two weeks

A new Disney-made Tron game came out today on two of its three scheduled platforms. The cheekily (or annoyingly) named Tron Run/r released as planned on PC and PS4. The Xbox One version suffered a seemingly significant setback, though.

As noted by the keen eyes at Pure Xbox, the Tron runner has now been moved to March 1 on the Xbox website. While it was up but unavailable to purchase or download earlier today, it now simply says "coming soon." There's no indication as to why one platform was delayed by two weeks, but not the others.

For the two platforms that did launch, Disney put out a trailer. It's largely predicated on the infinite nature of endless runners. Oh, and inevitable failure. That too.

This game is new on PS4 and has a price point of $19.99. On PC, it has been in Early Access for a little while, and is set at a cheaper $9.99. We should be spending some time with it in the near future and we'll let you know our thoughts as soon as possible.

I've been really excited for Street Fighter V.

Street Fighter IV is the only game I’ve ever plugged enough hours and practice into to play somewhat competitively. At my first tournament, I got beaten by a guy dressed as Cody, ironically the same character I was playing as. It was weird, but still an experience I look back on fondly.

Unfortunately, Street Fighter IV had a patchy history on the PC. While it ran well, it was plagued by delayed updates and Games for Windows Live DRM right up until the shackles were finally removed with Ultra. Because of that, I’ve been excited to get my hands on the freshly released Street Fighter V and see how it is on PC.

It uh... it has its problems, to say the least.

Cheap Grand Theft Auto V headlines PlayStation Network sale

Ok, look, Rockstar's underrated Bully for $5 is the real headline in this Rockstar-tinged PlayStation network sale, but Grand Theft Auto moves newspapers god damn it. Hot coffee hot coffee hot coffee.

Also why is Bully a buck more expensive than Grand Theft Auto IV? I guess GTAIV lacks the same nostalgic punch as the PS2-era entries, which a lot of folks like to fondly return to.

LA Noire, Red Dead (plus Undead Nightmare), The Warriors, and Max Payne 3 are all sub-$10, too.

It's not just Rockstar games on sale, though. Look. There are some permanent price drops and great deals like 10 cents off "Grateful Dead - Dancing Skeleton Avatar." Also games, like sub-$10 Persona 4: Golden.

Germany lifts Fallout 3 ban en route to re-release speculation

Germany banned Fallout 3 in 2009 over its violent content (it also missed India and, briefly, was under fire in Australia). Eventually a censored version was offered for German players, but the original, uncensored version is no longer banned in the country.

Bethesda "initiated a difficult and rarely-successful trial," according to IGN Germany, with the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Minors (BPJM) to delist Fallout 3.

"In the case of Fallout 3, the request for delisting was granted even though only seven years passed since the game was banned," a BPJM member said in a statement. "The Big Council decided at its meeting on 4 February that Fallout 3 will be removed from the list because its content is no longer classified as harmful to minors from today's perspective."

The ban was set to expire in three years anyways. Why would Bethesda go through the time-consuming, costly legal trouble to get it repealed? Well, Fallout 4 was uncut in Germany (and plastered all over the country at gamescom ahead of its release) and probably made a lot of money. Fallout 3 is already available via Xbox One backward compatibility, but it could also see a full, Dishonored-style console re-release.

Games are kicking my ass right now, and it's great

"There's nothing to play right now" is an all-too-common sentiment when the novelty of holiday releases begins to wane. Personally, 2016 has already brought a wealth of Good Stuff that I'll be playing well in to the end of this year, and that's without even digging into the ever-ominous "backlog." What I didn't expect was to be simultaneously playing so many games that are omnidirectionally kicking my ass, via body, mind, and soul.

Let's start with body: I recently reviewed Dying Light: The Following, and realized that the harder difficulties improve the gameplay issues I had with the original campaign. When you can't automagically heal every time you get attacked, a delicious tension is formed. A nervous player can no longer mash the Q key for survivor sense and find every life-saving item in one quick sweep. Combat becomes a more deliberate affair, where an empty field of zombies can fill you with dread instead of hope for easily-gained experience. My reflexes were tested in a way that I enjoy in horror-action games.

In that same vein, Killing Floor 2 has been exacerbating my inevitable carpal tunnel syndrome lately. While I have about 250 hours worth of playtime on the floor, I recently began attempting the hardest difficulty, Hell on Earth. If you play as certain perks that need to be re-balanced (support, demolitionist, looking at you), this mode can be brutal. A global lack of ammo is what I find to be the most challenging at the moment, so I've had to be very picky with choosing my shots. Despite feeling like loss isn't always entirely my fault, victory after these tough battles is a glorious triumph.

GameStop exec says that PlayStation VR is now releasing in the fall

GameStop CEO Paul Raines went on Fox News yesterday to talk about tax season and how consumers receiving their refunds affects the video game retailer. It's a lot of what you might expect -- people with disposable income like to spend it. But, Raines said one very interesting thing about the launch plans of PlayStation VR.

When asked specifically about the virtual reality segment, Raines said that GameStop's all for it, and that it's projected to worth $80 billion by 2025. In addition to mentioning that GameStop is in talks with Oculus and HTC regarding their VR peripherals, Raines said "We will launch the Sony product (PlayStation VR) this fall."

Most recently, Sony has said that PlayStation VR would release in the first half of 2016. While we hadn't heard much lately regarding that estimate, it seemed possible given that Oculus is only a month away. Now, it looks as if that has been pushed back considerably, assuming that Raines has all of his information straight.

PowerA's upcoming Star Fox figure won't break the bank

PowerA is set to release a Limited Edition (5,000 units) Star Fox figure out into the wild on February 22, and it'll be a GameStop exclusive priced at $79.99.

The company sent over a sample for me to check out, and considering it's made of resin (the only material that isn't is the visor), it has some heft to it. The statue features none other than Fox McCloud, and at 8 inches, it's enough to make a splash without taking up too much room. He sets nicely into the base without too much trouble, but you'll need to glue him there for a more permanent stay (the instructions for where to glue are fairly detailed however).

Having felt the build quality and examined the paintjob, it's not as amazing as say, a First 4 Figures statue, but since those things usually go for $200 or more, you're making a decent tradeoff here. The certificate of authenticity has that nice "Official Nintendo Licensed Product" seal, but there's no indication of what number in the series of 5,000 your particular figure is.

As a general rule there isn't much Star Fox merchandise to go around, so hardcore fans will probably enjoying showing this off.

That BlazBlue visual novel is coming to PC

BlazBlue prequel Xblaze Code: Embryo is getting a PC port, Aksys Games just announced.

Set 150 years before the events of Arc System Works' fighting games, Xblaze follows the exploits of Touya Kagari, a high school student whose life gets flipped-turned upside down after being rescued from an otherworldly assailant by a mysterious girl by the name of Es.

Aksys plans to release the visual novel via Steam on March 1. If you're more interested in checking Xblaze out on a console, it and its sequel are already available on PlayStation 3 and Vita.

Here's how Street Fighter V's Fight Coins and microtransactions work

Street Fighter V is out, and as of this morning, the Fight Coin switch has been flipped. Here's the rub.

Fight Coins are basically an earned, free currency, that you get from completing various events. Playing a "story" (read: less than 10 minute prologues) will net you 10,000 each clear, and a win online nets you 50. With one survival clear per character (there's 16 characters and four difficulty tiers for each one) you can net 6,000 coins each. You can also opt to buy into a premium currency called "Zenny," which will run you $1 per 100. Characters (here's the current schedule) cost 100,000 Fight Coins or 600 Zenny, story mode costumes cost 40,000 Fight Coins, and premium costumes are 400 Zenny.

On paper, you're getting one and a half characters outright (160,000 coins from just the prologues) for a few hours of work. That's...not bad, since said characters would be sold as paid DLC anyway. But Capcom is counting on you spending your currency on outfits, leaving you with less and less cash to buy characters with. It's a common strategy that's used in a lot of games -- hell, the free market in general. If you can resist the temptation, you'll likely come out on top.

Assuming the well of solo coins dries up, beyond that, you'll need to win roughly 2000 games a month to get a free character. But there are concessions. Leveling up a character by playing them will net you an extra 1000 coins per level, for example. When the shop opens in March, more prices emerge, and other modes arrive, we'll update accordingly. For now, the high rewards for single-player content are great, but we'll see how easy it is to earn Coins once players cap their levels out. "More ways to earn coins will be added throughout the year" Capcom says, but for now, this is just a promise.

After actually seeing it in action, I don't think Capcom should be praised for this strategy, nor should it be crucified. There's some sleaze at work here mired by confusing currency schemes, but ultimately, I've earned enough coins to buy two DLC characters on the first day -- so there's something to it. If they can keep the game as one SKU, as promised, that will be praise-worthy. But that concept has yet to be proven.

Review: Project X Zone 2

It is closing in on four o'clock in the morning. My eyes are bloodshot, struggling to stay open. I have to go to work in five hours. I look like death, my face pale as grocery-size bags blacken the skin under my eyes.

I haven't been sleeping well over the last week because I've been staying up every night playing Project X Zone 2. And I know as I sit in my office tomorrow, downing an entire six-pack of 5-Hour Energy in a feeble effort to not fall asleep during rush-hour traffic, one thought will be with me:

Jet Set Radio's free on Steam right now

A lot of stuff is free lately. PlayStation has a few free games each month; Xbox does the same thing. But, none of that is truly free. Those both require a paid subscription to a premium service to cash in on some gratis games.

Steam has some actually free games right now -- three of them, all from Sega. Jet Set Radio is the one most people will fawn over. The Dreamcast-era rollerblading tag-'em-up has always been a beloved gem. This version has a fresh coat of paint, as it's the 2012 HD port.

Also on offer beside Jet Set Radio are Golden Axe and Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit. Hell Yeah! also comes with two DLC packs.

All of this is part of the spoils from the "Make War Not Love 3" event. During this, players unlock free games by putting time into Dawn of War II, Total War: Attila, and Company of Heroes 2. Later in the week, Streets of Rage II, Binary Domain, and Condemned: Criminal Origins might also be free if some people go ahead and make more war.

Hyperkin's 'ProCube' controller is literally a Wii U Pro in the GameCube style

It's a shame that the official GameCube controller adapter for Wii U doesn't work for anything outside of Super Smash Bros., but Hyperkin is aiming to fix that problem with its own proprietary option.

It's called the "ProCube" controller, and while it's shaped just like a Cube remote, it actually functions as a Wii U Pro Controller -- meaning, it'll work on anything that supports it. I can't imagine playing, say, Bayonetta 2 on it, but it looks sweet enough. The ProCube is completely sold out on its official website, but it's going for $29.99 at GameStop in three variants -- black, purple, and white. The launch date is February 29.

After P.T., a lot of people were excited for the Hideo Kojima/Guillermo del Toro/Norman Reedus joint Silent Hills, right up until the point it was canceled. Scratch that; people were still excited about the idea, including Norman Reedus himself. A recent late night tweet from Kojima is only stoking those fires.

"Reunion with Norman Reedus. Giving update about my own company." Yes, Kojima and Reedus were in the same place at the same time, with photographic evidence. No, that does not necessarily mean anything will come from it. Temper your expectations. Do not get hyped. I repeat: do not get hyped.

There's a movement these days of games going multiplayer-only, focusing on one aspect to make it as good as possible. Along with that comes the dissent, players who demand single-player content and developers who spend resources providing it.

Search Cobalt and you'll find screenshots and videos of the multiplayer. By the way Oxeye and Mojang market it, it looks like straight-up arena competition with a ton of options. As it turns out, there's also substantial single-player content here, however it may be a victim of the counter-movement, existing only because it has to, so miserable it drags the good stuff down.

Here's a list of all of Xbox One's backward compatible games

Microsoft did what Sony didn't this console generation -- a wide push for backward compatibility (Nintendo deserves love for ringing it in though!). It doesn't seem like the functionality is coming anytime soon on PS4 (in favor of renting via PS Now or re-buying games on the PSN), but for now, Xbox One owners can enjoy a ton of first and third party games.

The way it works is as simple as Sony's "used game instructional video." You either download the game if you own it digitally, or just put the disc in. That's it.

Last call - This is an early head's up that we are possibly switching to dev.destructoid.com in the next five minutes or in March, and really could use your feedback. If you saw the site a few weeks ago you'll hopefully enjoy all of the tweaks we've made since. Here's a little bit of what's completely new like...

Classic mode - I like Destructoid. Do you like Destructoid? Hey, we have something in common already. Let's not change it too much despite the web publishing industry completely falling apart and being forced to conform to 5-inch devices. Yes, our changes are primarily to make sure you can read us from whatever gadget you're buying next (or we'd still be rocking toilet edition like it's 2008). Otherwise, the aroma of your drunkard uncle remains amidst.

Our new design sports a new font on some page elements (we made it larger, bolder), the site runs faster on mobile, maybe feels cleaner looking, and available in an improved dark and light theme with many more coming. Ideally, you'll make your own full custom themes, right? I'm trying to get us there, pulling our ten-year-old infrastructure by the eyelids and into the glorious future. Red bar or not? Bigger logo? We'll do it, but in themes. Dafoe shall rise again! Maybe OkDtoid too. Ato de.

Action RPG Moon Hunters launches on March 10

Moon Hunters will launch on March 10 for PC, Kitfox Games has announced.

The Montréal indie studio initially planned on releasing the action role-playing game on February 25, but extra time was needed to improve stability, particularly in the online department.

Kitfox is currently working to overhaul the online save system and improve support for dropped connections. That means players won't lose progress if someone on the team is disconnected, which sounds like a pretty essential fix, you know, considering Moon Hunters is a co-op experience.

Mac and Linux versions will release shortly after the PC build, followed by ports for PlayStation 4 this spring (May or June) and PlayStation Vita sometime in the summer months.

Bethesda finally details first three Fallout 4 DLCs, Season Pass price is going up

Bethesda is done with the "Mystery Season Pass" nonsense. At least, partially, as it has detailed the first three (of four, originally, but read on to see how plans have changed) DLCs coming to Fallout 4.

The initial offering is coming in March. It's called Automatron, and it's priced at $9.99. It involves "hordes of evil robots" and "the devious Robobrain." You'll harvest them to build your own robot companions, with "hundreds of mods" and voices. It doesn't sound like a full story campaign that's in line with previous DLC. Neither does Wasteland Workshop, which will run you $4.99 and let you design cages to catch creatures, including humans. You can tame them and battle them at will. That's coming in April.

Far Harbor on the other hand looks to be substantial. It'll run you $24.99, and will arrive in May. It involves a new case at the Valentine Detective Agency and will deal with a secret colony of synths off the coast of Maine. You'll experience the conflict between synths, the Children of the Atom, and the locals in an all-new story.

Okay, so here's where it gets sticky. Because of the "expanded DLC plan," the Season Pass is going up in price from $29.99 to $49.99 on March 1. If you purchase the Season Pass before that time (again, essentially gambling that it will be good), you can still get the initial price. Closed betas will be opened up periodically for the DLC on Bethesda.net (and note, if you get in, you'll get the full version of the add-on). They're also testing the "Creation Kit," which will offer free mods and an overhauled survival mode -- consoles still don't have that former functionality.

I have to say I thought all the DLC would be on par with previous games, not some half-measure Skyrim: Hearthfire-esque add-ons that essentially amount to mods. While Bethesda promises "even more" coming later in the year (eventually the total piecemeal DLC total will rise to $60), the price, especially at $50, is just too much to hope that it'll deliver. We'll cover them as they arise though so you can make a more informed decision.

Final Fantasy IX on mobile is causing memories to flood back to me (and the port's mostly good)

Final Fantasy IX is one of my least-played games in the series. I don't really have a good reason for that. Maybe when I was younger, a fantastic tale about a monkey-tailed horndog thief flirting with a princess (and every other woman he sees) didn't seem as appealing as the futuristic settings of VII and VIII. I figured that the mobile release on iOS and Google Play would give me a chance to see why I never quite got on with IX like I did the others.

Turns out, I was a dumb little kid who didn't appreciate good things. The new HD character models help me realize just how bizarre and joyful the cast is in this game. A few minutes in, you're waddling around as the Best Black Mage Ever and talking to fish people, hippo people, and rat people. It's easier to see what they're supposed to be now, since the PS1 jagginess obscured some of the art back in the day. Unfortunately, the pre-rendered backgrounds didn't get updated, and in fact look a little jarring against the crisp models.

Even so, I had intended to only play this for a few hours to get a feel for the port, and now I'm ten hours in, planning on playing to completion. This is made easier by new features added in for convenience: at any time you can pause and toggle a speed-up button, the ability to do 9,999 damage, full HP/Trance/ATB bars, or even turn off random encounters entirely. While this may seem to remove the challenge involved, it has allowed me to cut to the chaff of Final Fantasy IX. Instead of grinding through random battles I knew I was going to win, I sped through those and fought boss battles legitimately since that's where the challenge lays.

You can also choose to have infinite gil, or max out your levels and abilities, but you can't turn those off and I left them alone. This is sure to affront some people who want to play the game as the developers originally intended, but they can still do that by ignoring these options. Everybody wins, hooray!

These are all the 'bad words' that you can't use on 3DS

Nintendo has had a profanity filter in place for their systems for a long while now, even going so far as to drop Swapnote to ensure that kids are safe. Of course, someone went ahead and datamined the 3DS and found a full list of banned words, which you can find here.

New Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator fighter revealed

Arc System Works has announced that Raven will join the cast of Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator.

Raven was first introduced as a non-playable character in Guilty Gear X and has made a number of minor appearances in the series, most notably as a boss in Guilty Gear 2: Overture.

Other new characters joining the action in this update to Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign, include Jack-O, Jam Kuradoberi, Johnny Sfondi, Kum Haehyun, and presumably Dizzy, who was selected in a fan vote.

Guilty Gear Xrd: Revelator will debut for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 in Japan on May 27, followed by releases in North America and Europe on June 7 and June 10, respectively.

The updated version of Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign first appeared in arcades on August 25, 2015.

Mass Effect: Andromeda writer leaves BioWare for Bungie

Mass Affect: Andromeda lead writer Chris Schlerf has departed BioWare Montréal for Bungie.

Schlerf called his time with the Mass Effect and Dragon Age studio one of the "best experiences" of his career and expressed excitement for the next entry in EA's science fiction franchise, saying he thinks Andromeda will "blow people away" and he "couldn't be prouder" to be a part of the project.

And yet, Schlerf's exit from the studio marks something of a trend for BioWare, as the developer also recently lost long-time writer David Gaider to Beamdog and senior development director Chris Wynn to H1Z1 maker Daybreak (the company formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment). 

Schlerf, who previously worked on Halo 4 at 343 Industries, didn't detail how his move might affect Andromeda's development, but say he will be the lead writer on Destiny moving forward.

Last we heard, EA and BioWare were planning to release Mass Effect: Andromeda later this year.

Nitroplus Blasterz strikes Europe on April 7

Nitroplus Blasterz is coming to Europe and Australia on April 7, Marvelous just announced.

The fighter will be available both physically and digitally PlayStation 4 in PAL territories, whereas the PlayStation 3 version will be a PlayStation Store exclusive. Regardless of your preferred platform, you'll be able to compete against any other player, as the title supports both cross-platform play.

Marvelous released the game in Japan last December and North America earlier this month.

The Ship: Remasted docked for an extra week

Developer Blazing Griffin has confirmed that The Ship: Remasted has been pushed back a week.

"Based on feedback from the community, we’ve delayed the launch of the game [to February 22]," said marketing manager Scott Boyd.

"There were a number of concerns from the community about the impact of a LAN-only launch may have on initial Steam reviews and on balance, we felt that it was appropriate to address those concerns."

In a more detailed update on the Steam Community page, the developer added:

"Thanks to everyone for their comments and also for voicing your concerns. Launching a game like this is a delicate process and we were also concerned about the impact of negative reviews will have on the future of the game. We did feel that on balance there were more benefits to launching today than later, but given the feedback from the community, we've moved to a more suitable solution."

"For what it's worth, we believe that one of the most important aspects of launching a game like this is the community that builds around it. That's why we invited Ship fans to closed testing and gave all of our former Kickstarter backers keys for the new game. We believe this is the best starting point for building a new Ship community and, well, we wouldn't be doing very well at the first step if we didn't listen to you! :)"

The Ship: Remasted is a remake of the classic 2006 game, The Ship: Murder PartyA multiplayer game, set aboard a series of 1920s cruise ships, you are tasked "by the mysterious Mr X to kill or be killed. Each player is given the name of another to stealthily (or not-so-stealthily) kill and you must do so while avoiding your own hunter and tending to your basic needs."

Street Fighter V servers struggle with demand

Capcom servers have been struggling to meet demand on the release of Street Fighter V.

According to reports on reddit, Steam, and Twitter, players have been struggling to keep connected to the game, while others have been unable to connect at all.

Here, take a look at the screencap Twitterer GestDaBomb took while trying to find a game to watch on Twitch.

 

Capcom took the servers offline to troubleshoot. Although the publisher didn’t elaborate on what the issue was, it confirmed it had “identified the issue that caused the servers to go down” the servers were switched back about an hour later.

Wincars Racer First Impressions

While I usually find myself playing ARTS/MOBA games such as Dota 2 and Heroes of the Storm, I still love to spend some time playing racing or driving games. A lot of the time, I opt for the more realistic titles such as Project Cars or Euro Truck Simulator, but sometimes you just feel like relaxing and playing arcade racers. This is where Wincars Racer comes in: an arcade racer offering players a game with fast-paced action packed gameplay. I was fortunate enough to take part in a developer tour with eosshelt and Javier from DragonJam Studios. Read on for my first impressions of Wincars Racer. Spoiler: The game is a blast to play!

Mario Kart is my go to racing game when friends are over. It’s cartoony enough providing competitive gamers with enjoyment but still forgiving for casual players. These qualities make Mario Kart an amazing party game where gamers of all skill levels can play together. Wincars Racer reminds me of Mario Kart but built for realism levels closer to games such as Burnout or Need for Speed. Knowing this, Wincars Racer is a game that is very easy to get into but still rewards competitive players who dedicate their time towards practicing and improving.

Circuits are introduced with a nice fly by

As expected from a racing game, the controls are very straightforward. In the beta, players are able to use their keyboard or a gamepad. A steering wheel is usable but the controls will require manual mapping. I recommend going with an Xbox controller as it feels most natural for this game; a steering wheel is not a very good choice for arcade racers. Regardless of your choice of input device, the controls are very easy to pick up and play. Aside from the throttle, brake, and steer commands, players have turbo, power special, stomp, punch, and drift available in their arsenal.

As players drive around the track, their turbo meter charges up. Unsurprisingly, using turbo speeds up your car allowing you to catch up to or increase your lead on your opponents. It is important to keep using your turbo when available, as you will not gain more turbo charge once it is full. Of course, you should still only use it when you can handle the top speed without crashing. Similar to the turbo, stomp also charges over time and will hit all surrounding drivers when activated. Both turbo and stomp charge instantly if you drive over their respective power ups. It is not required to charge up punch; simply hitting the button when an icon pops up on the screen will allow you to hit a nearby driver.

Power specials are a great way to pass your rival racers

It is great to see some additional actions such as stomp and punch. These simple but creative additions set Wincars Racer apart from other games. They add a comic side to the game appealing to all fans of arcade racers. Continuing with this trend, all drivers available to players feature unique power specials. These power specials can be anything from a flamethrower to transforming into a giant that crushes rival drivers. These power specials add a bit more flavour to the game and ensure that the races are action-packed. During my developer tour, we only had three people, which was already a blast. I can imagine, and DragonJam Studios ensured, that having a full 8-player race is even more fun and fast paced.

Currently there are six drivers and many cars available to players. All items such as drivers, cars, skins, and circuits are purchasable using in-game money. It was great to see a game offering everything even for free players. This ensures that free players are not knocked out of the competition simply because they do not wish to spend real money. However, players will be able to purchase anything from the shop with real money as well to save time. So far, the shop system is well done, and I am hoping it stays this way. Great job DragonJam Studios for realizing that you do not need to give paying players an advantage over free players to make money. Many games are out there which survive and even surpass pay-to-win games without giving paying players clear advantages.

Players can customize and browse through their collection in the garage

Aside from featuring different power specials, all drivers, like cars, have different stats. Some may be better on road, some better off road, and others may have faster acceleration. Couple this with the skins and you have a lot of customizability available in Wincars Racer. However, sometimes having too many options can be bad and overwhelming for new players. To combat this issue, the game suggests drivers and cars for each circuit, which make it a lot easier for new players to ignore the complexity and begin racing.

Additionally, a leveling system restricts certain vehicle types until you unlock their licenses. Players can drive formula, sport, off road, and granturismo vehicles. Some of these, such as the formula cars, are harder to drive than others. Others are specialized to capitalize on specific track conditions. and certain types are better on different tracks. I am usually against the idea of having to unlock categories or items but this system makes sense in Wincars Racer. If a player just jumps into a formula car from the get go, they will have a bad time.

The rain effect looks awesome

So far, all of my impressions have been positive. This is no surprise as the game is a blast to play, especially with it being in open beta. However, there is always room for improvement. While the game plays really well, it is severely lacking in the 'polish' department, especially when it comes to sound, user interface, and environment.

When you are racing, the game just feels dead. You do not hear the roar of engines, nothing is going on throughout the circuits, and the circuits just look bland. It is not necessary for cars to sound realistic but the sound effects need improvement. If we look at Mario Kart, the circuits look amazing. The little details such as animals, spectators, or other items in the environment can make a massive difference. Circuits are well balanced but they just need some improvement to make them feel alive. I was on voice chat with the developers while racing so it wasn’t too bad, but I can see this dead environment turning off players playing alone. They will not have the constant banter from voice chat to keep them entertained.

Formula cars are very fast but difficult to control

The user interface is also very outdated. Some menus are simple black backgrounds with white text and some employed effects are reminiscent of the old days of the Internet when we were used to seeing flames and gradients everywhere. The interface needs some cleaning up to make it look clean and modern. It was great to see some nice animations throughout the menus but before jumping on animating the interface, the static design needs to be perfected.

In conclusion, Wincars Racer was a blast to play. The game is still in its beta stages but even now, it plays really well and always leaves you wanting more. There is a ranking system already in place which will keep competitive gamers coming back to secure high spots on the leaderboard each season.

The open beta has just begun and DragonJam Studios is intently waiting for players to provide feedback. The drift functionality, originally deemed unnecessary, was added in due to player feedback. Your feedback can make a massive difference and shape the future of this game.

A Steam Greenlight campaign is underway to bring more publicity to the game. If you enjoy playing the beta, do not hesitate to check out the campaign. It would be great to see Wincars Racer on the front page of Steam someday. However, until that day, let us all enjoy playing the beta and see this game evolve before our eyes!

ASTA Open Beta Date Announced

WEBZEN, a global developer and publisher of free-to-play MMO games, is pleased to announce that the Open Beta for the new Asian fantasy MMORPG ASTA – The War of Tears and Winds will begin on the 2nd of March, 2016 (UTC).

ASTA – The War of Tears and Winds is a classic fantasy MMORPG with gameplay that offers an essential MMORPG experience, combining traditional features such as customizable attributes and server-first achievements with modern comforts like a group finder and automatic matchmaking.

After the Initial Beta Test in November 2015, ASTA is finally getting ready to go into its Open Beta on the 2nd of March. Players will be able to pre-download the English language Open Beta client several days in advance so that they can dive straight in when the servers open their doors.
