Call of Duty: Ghosts Onslaught DLC info leaks Posted: 11 Jan 2014 11:00 AM PST First information for the upcoming DLC pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts has hit the web thanks to the keen eyes of one Twitter user making their way through a local GameStop. The pack, coming first to Xbox Live, will contain four multiplayer maps (Fog, Containment, Ignition, and Bayview), the Maverick AR & Sniper rifle, and a new Extinction episode titled: Nightfall. Additionally, according to the poster, Onslaught will be available January 28. |
Joylancer is the new action platformer to watch for Posted: 11 Jan 2014 10:00 AM PST Legendary Motor Knight! Joylancer is a new series by game developer and musical artist T.J. Thomas. Fluid action and muilt-purpose maneuvers appear to be the focus here, with titular "joy lance" (a motorcyle-lance-drill hybrid) being the real star of the show. Your lance works as both your primary form of attack and enhanced mobility. While the planned series is still in a relatively early in development, it's clear that there's plenty of potential here. I've even heard tell that a fully color version may be coming down the line for those that are less quick to love the Gameboy-style visuals. Check out a dynamite description of Joylancer below, and look for The Castle Trials (the first game in the series) by mid January. |
These two blindfolded Punch-Out!! speedruns are must see Posted: 11 Jan 2014 09:00 AM PST I used to think I was pretty good at both Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!!; that is until I saw these two amazing blindfolded speedruns that took place during the currently ongoing Awesome Games Done Quick 2014 charity marathon over at Twitch. Pulling some straight Karate Kid-esque crane kicks on the likes of Bald Bull and company, speedrunner Sinisterwon's impressive unbeaten streak, until he faced the godly Mike Tyson, truly captivates the spirit of Little Mac taking on the juggernauts in Punch-Out!! Not to be out done, and as equally impressive, was the run Zallard1 made in the Super NES follow-up. Stumbling only once in the game's Special Circuit, Zallard1 emphatically put away the game's final fighter in under 25 seconds thanks to a well-timed frame perfect counter punch. |
Collector's Corner: Show us your collection Posted: 11 Jan 2014 08:00 AM PST [The latest Collector's Corner is all about you, we want to see your collections! We want to show them off to the rest of the Destructoid Community. Keep reading below to see how you can participate!] I was having a discussion with a friend the other day, who also happens to be a collector, regarding the way he displays the games he's picked up over the years. You see, my buddy Brian is a huge nut for anything Atari, whether it is games, consoles, posters, manuals, pins, buttons, stickers -- anything. You name it, he collects it, and he has tons of stuff to show off. His collection, while massive, is sort of hidden, such that the majority of his games and swag are not on display. He has a room dedicated to gaming, and on the back wall are two six-foot-tall shelves, each is just about four feet wide. On these shelves are various games (mostly Atari), some loose, and some in boxes. There are a couple of Atari-themed lunch boxes, and other miscellaneous items. The windows are adorned with vintage Pac-Man curtains. The walls are painted to resemble a level from the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES. Basically, he goes all out. |
You can now mod SimCity but only so far Posted: 11 Jan 2014 07:00 AM PST We've said it plenty of times before but mods for PC games are great. Mod support is something I look for in games but it was no surprise that SimCity didn't allow mods. With the game being online all the time I assumed that EA wasn't going to allow the possibility of someone making an "offline mode" mod within a few days to get around being connected to the internet whilst playing. Now Maxis is allowing mods for SimCity but there's lots of conditions you'll have to abide by. A blog entry posted on the official SimCity website says that the developer and publisher "encourage you to create, redistribute and consume mods" and that EA will not "pre-screen, endorse or support any mods." So far, so good -- companies don't tend to recognize most mods outside of a "Hey, we think this is kinda cool" and I can't imagine EA would be any different. Now most of the other rules make sense; you're not going to be able to make a mod that harms anyone's user experience, you can't sells mods, you can't make a mod that's going to have content that would make it above the main game's ERSB 10+ rating and you can't make mods that affect the multiplayer aspects of the game. Maxis can and most likely will "take disciplinary action" against players who break those rules. All of this leaves me wondering what you can really do with mods apart from creating some custom skins for vehicles and buildings. The main complaints I've heard about SimCity relate to the size of the cities you can build and the always-online requirement and it doesn't seem this policy on mods are really going to change that. Maxis encourages SimCity modding then sets restrictive ground rules [PC Gamer] |
Live-action Legend of Zelda fan film is intense Posted: 11 Jan 2014 06:00 AM PST Hollywood produced video game adaptations are traditionally a train wreck, which is a major factor in why I never want to see Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda portrayed on the silver screen. But while I may hold firm to this belief, everyone once in awhile a fan film comes along that makes me think 'maybe this isn't a bad idea.' Titled The Dark Mask, the short live-action film pits the heroic Link in an epic battle with the vile wizard Agahnim. The dialog came off a little rough to me, but everything else is fairly epic and well worth the three and half minutes it lasts. And that ending... well lets just say I really hope the folks over at Mars Rising Films put together the sequel. |
Impressions: Halo: Spartan Assault (Xbox One) Posted: 11 Jan 2014 05:00 AM PST
Having all but ignored initial reviews for Halo: Spartan Assault when it first hit Windows 8 platforms last year, I was quite optimistic that I would thoroughly enjoy a top-down, twin-stick shooter set in Microsoft’s massively popular sci-fi setting. After all, Halo’s extended universe is generally of excellent quality and the company handling the franchise’s excursion into a new genre, Vanguard Games, proved they had the stuff to make an exhilarating run-and-gun shooter with Gatling Gears. I should have read the reviews. |

Neo Geo X maker calls SNK Playmore a bully Posted: 10 Jan 2014 10:00 PM PST Tommo is continuing its fight with SNK Playmore over the right to sell the Neo Geo X Gold. The company alleges SNK has asked a number of Tommo's retail and distribution partners to stop selling the retro console and supporting products. "They are trying to bully US retailers with scare tactics," claims Tommo CEO Jonathan Wan. "Their threats and accusations have harmed the Neo Geo X product marketing efforts, sales channels, and have cost Tommo significant financial losses." Tommo denies any breach of contract occurred, maintaining the company upheld its end of the bargain, and should still be authorized to sell the Neo Geo X. Expect Tommo to take legal action in the near future. In the meantime, the company hopes to keep its wares on shelves. |
Rambo: The Video Game looks like a bad PS2 game Posted: 10 Jan 2014 07:00 PM PST If the bad gameplay clips from the upcoming Rambo: The Video Game didn't scare you off earlier this week, maybe this bad trailer will. This game is still actually happening. Only in Europe, though. Did Rambo have a recent European resurgence recently? The developers are Polish and the publisher British. Sylvested enough in the Rambo franchise that this is something you must Stall-own? Can you let this goofy novelty Sly-de? |
There's a zombie mod for Bully because of course there is Posted: 10 Jan 2014 05:00 PM PST In gamers' quest to put zombies in every game that isn't zombies, there is a Bully zombie mod in progress. It's currently a free roam zombie sandbox, but the team is planning a storyline as well. The saving grace of any zombie-related news is that I just listen to the Cranberries for a while to drown out my exasperated sighs. In your heeeeeeeeeeead, in your head, zombie, zombie, zombie. Bully zombie mod bullies some undead [Shack News]
