Doujin hack-and-slash coming to PS4 this month Posted: 03 Feb 2016 01:30 PM PST Doujinsoft studio Zenith Blue's Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae is coming to PlayStation 4 in North America on February 16, Japanese indie game publisher Playism announced today via the PlayStation Blog. A word of warning, as someone who played the PC release around the time it launched on Steam in 2014, I found the game to be a banal, repetitive affair. Other than a few lines of inconsequential story, the entire experience boils down to hacking apart waves of enemies in a circular area. Unless that sounds like your idea of a great time or Zenith Blue has significantly improved the game since then, I'd recommend giving this one a pass and picking up one of Playism's other titles, like Croixleur Sigma or Astebreed, both of which are great and already available on PC and PS4. The Overwatch beta is back on February 9 Posted: 03 Feb 2016 11:00 AM PST Blizzard is bringing back the Overwatch closed beta on February 9 in the Americas and Europe, and February 16 in Asia. If you had access to it before the hiatus, you'll still be good to go. The newly refreshed beta will sport several worthwhile upgrades: a new progression system, two extra maps, another mode, character rebalancing, and a "variety of Private Game updates, including full A.I. matches." It should be worth checking out again, in other words. There's also a crumb of Overwatch news for the majority of us who are sitting here wondering if our invites got lost in the mail. Blizzard says it's going to bring on more players for "an even wider range of perspectives and feedback." That's your cue to opt in, if you still you need to. Get Confident, Stupid! Podtoid is recording and we need questions Posted: 03 Feb 2016 10:05 AM PST Hi, I'm Steven Hansen. You may remember from such Podtoids as Podtoid 321: Witness the Rise of Bombshell and The Christmas Ape Saves Podtoid. We all had a blast recording 321 and not just because it's like a countdown...to fun! So for Podtoid 322, and whatever wacky name Kyle comes up for it -- get confident, stupid! And ask us questions. Quick. I can only record right now. I live in a studio apartment on top of a bowling alley underneath another bowling alley.

Someone get me this Life is Strange phone case Posted: 03 Feb 2016 10:00 AM PST The last time I got a new phone, the Verizon rep asked me if I'd like to trade in my old phone for credit toward accessories -- specifically a case for it. I politely declined and she was shocked. "You mean you don't want a case for your new phone?" she prodded. "Nah, I'm good," I replied. "I'm careful." Maybe it's because I haven't learned the hard way, but I hate phone cases. I love the form factor of all the phones I've ever bought. Why would I want to make it bulkier and more cumbersome? That seems like it's defeating the purpose. All that background is necessary to say that there is now one phone case I like: this Life is Strange "Go Fuck Your Selfie" case. It's perfectly vulgar and wonderfully ironic. This was destined to be a case ever since Victoria delivered that line in episode one. The problem is that I don't know if this is meant for mass manufacturing. It's existence is made known courtesy of one of the game's marketing staff. There's nothing about it on the publisher's official store. It might just be promotional and for those who worked on the game. If so, reverse course and sell these, Square Enix! They're hella-cool. @RoxaneDomalain [Twitter] Read more... |
Here's what Xbox has in store for 2016 Posted: 03 Feb 2016 09:30 AM PST Xbox has a new video meant to pat itself on the back for 2015 and to let us know what it has up its sleeve for 2016 and beyond. The message is clear: "We kicked ass last year and we're going to do it again." Whether or not you believe that to be true is up to you. However, this hype video serves a more streamlined purpose, too; it lets us know where Xbox is betting big for the year. That's the objective in the positively-spun subjective. According to this, the biggest games on Xbox in the near future will be Quantum Break, The Division, Crackdown 3, ReCore, Scalebound, Gears 4, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Sea of Thieves, and Halo Wars 2. Obviously, we know that not all of these will release in 2016 because Scalebound was recently pushed to 2017. And, not all of these are Xbox One exclusives either, as many can be found on PC and some are even on other consoles. Still, it's a nice snapshot of what we can expect -- a whole bunch of things we knew about, all gathered together in one place. Microsoft says it's a continuation of "the greatest games lineup in Xbox history." That's a bold statement, and one not really worth dissecting when everything is pre-release. But, there's plenty here that's worth looking forward to.

We'll see more of Pokemon Go in March Posted: 03 Feb 2016 09:00 AM PST [Delightfully horrific illustration by Junji Ito] The world is ready for Pokémon Go, but is Pokémon Go ready for us? We haven't heard much out of the augmented-reality, location-based mobile game since its unveiling last September. As far as I know, it's still targeting a release later this year on iPhone and Android. Niantic founder and CEO John Hanke has signed on to speak about the title in March at the Game Developers Conference. Unless something else pops up, that's when we'll get our next peek. According to the session description, "Attendees will get a first-hand, in-depth look at how players are interacting and exploring the world with one another through Pokémon Go, the collaborative approach to design and development for the game, and the next evolution of augmented reality and real-world mobile gameplay experiences." The exact date and time are to be announced. I hope the game isn't too far off. Think you'll spring for the wrist-based device? Catch 'Em All: Pokemon GO and Real World Gaming [GDC]

Attention, Pokemon hipsters: The Red/Blue soundtrack is on vinyl now Posted: 03 Feb 2016 08:30 AM PST When you think about it, "With a Little Help from My Friends" is a song that's pretty fitting for trainers in Pokémon. After all, they only command the adorable little critters; they don't actually do any of the fighting on their own. That's not the only Beatles and Pokémon parallel to draw right now. The soundtrack to the original Red/Blue games has just been pressed on vinyl, and the cover art is a beautiful take on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. What's more, the record has a tie-dye look as if it were a warped Pokéball from the '60s. Moonshake Records is responsible for the pressing of Junichi Masuda's soundtrack. The problem lies in the fact that only 500 were made. They run $50 a piece, so they're definitely not cheap. Great music presented this delightfully rarely is cheap, though. XCOM 2 pre-load now live, pre-order deals roundup Posted: 03 Feb 2016 08:00 AM PST Firaxis finally let the cat out of the bag earlier today and has revealed the release schedule for Friday's XCOM 2. If you've already pre-ordered, you need to launch your Steam client and get going on the 31GB download because pre-load is now LIVE. Everyone else still on the fence about the thus-far well received game can browse our list of XCOM 2 pre-order deals below and mull on your decision while your eyebrow furrows. The deal isn't as crazy as last week but they're still pretty decent for near-release pricing. XCOM 2 Digital Deluxe Deals List: $74.99
XCOM 2 Standard Edition Deals List: $59.99
GMG is having a play on regional pricing with different coupon codes/percentage off depending on if you're in North America or Europe. For North America, you can get 23% off the Digital Deluxe Edition with our code above. For EU/UK, you can use the same 25% off code for both the Deluxe and Standard Edition. In North America, you'll have to login here in order to see the discount for the Standard Edition. At Games Planet and FunStock things are a bit more simple since GBP are being shown, so you can just work out the currency conversion math. Thus far we're positive GMG is sending out keys already, though we're pretty sure the other two retailers will be sending it out soon too now that pre-load and release schedule is out. Update: If you don't have a key yet from GMG via email, just login and check your game library for the key. Some people are reporting seeing it there before even receiving it in their email. Dang, I need to get on Gravity Rush Remastered Posted: 03 Feb 2016 07:30 AM PST Perhaps I shouldn't have watched this Gravity Rush trailer yet. I mean, I fully intended to play the new PlayStation 4 remaster some day soon. Just not, like, right now. Not while there's The Witness to wrap up, XCOM 2 and Firewatch to start, and who knows what else on the near horizon. It's probably best that I avoid investigating further. This footage, minimal as it is, has triggered something in my mind that foolishly thinks I can somehow take on all of this stuff at once without consequence. That's the lie I'm now telling myself. New Dark Souls III gameplay comin' in hot! Posted: 03 Feb 2016 07:00 AM PST April isn't that far off on the horizon, but it might as well be an eternity when you're eagerly awaiting a new game. For many, that game is Dark Souls III, a franchise that has the pedigree to make waiting unbearable. If a new gameplay video helps sate that Souls lust, I have just the thing for you. This almost seven-minute clip is from a live stream with developer From Software. It was uploaded elsewhere in case the stream archive mysteriously disappeared forever. Despite having visited Japan three times now, I'm still not fluent in the language (unbelievable), so I can't offer much insight as to the developer commentary. But, this is still worth watching for a few combat encounters, a beautiful mountain vista, and lots of rolling and dodging. Lots.

CCP shutting down PS3-exclusive Dust 514, segueing into PC shooter Posted: 03 Feb 2016 06:30 AM PST At EVE Fanfest 2014, CCP announced a prototype called Project Legion, a new PC shooter in the EVE Online universe. We were immediately left to wonder what this meant for Dust 514 which already fills that shooter role but as a PS3 exclusive. CCP representatives were predictably dodgy in interviews, stressing that Project Legion wasn't even definitely a thing at this point. At the time, it seemed like Dust 514's death knell. However, as two entire years passed, hindsight suggests that maybe even CCP wasn't sure what its plans were as it stayed mum on all things Project Legion (we were informed at Fanfest last year that nobody was going to talk about it). Did it want to push this PC shooter and abandon consoles? How long could it keep with a PS3 game as the user base on legacy systems dwindled? Today, it all becomes crystal clear. In a post on the Dust 514 forums, a CCP developer revealed that the game would be shut down on May 30, 2016. Plans to release an update have been halted, and all microtransactions have been removed from the storefront. In its stead, CCP has decided to fully lean into the Project Legion idea and is developing a PC shooter in EVE Online's New Eden. This new game is called "an evolution of Project Legion," but it isn't elaborated as to exactly how it's an evolution. It could really be anything, because we never knew all that much about Project Legion in the first place. CCP says that this game is in early phases of development but that it'll have an update at this year's Fanfest which takes place in late April. We've reached out to the developer with some questions about Dust 514's demise and the prospects for this new shooter, but we don't honestly expect to hear anything until Fanfest. We'll update this post if we receive a response. The Future of Dust 514 [Dust 514 forums]

Review: Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum Wireless Gaming Headset Posted: 03 Feb 2016 06:00 AM PST I'm not going to lie, Logitech is not a name I've traditionally associated with quality equipment for a gaming setup. Realistically, the only time I tend to browse Logitech products is when I need a cheap basic keyboard or mouse for an older relative looking for a machine that will let them check online weather reports. They're sturdy and last decently, but are pretty bare bones when it comes to the build quality power users tend to need in my own experience. When Logitech agreed to send us one of their new G933 Artemis Spectrum wireless gaming headsets, I was initially dubious. I went in expecting an entry level wireless headset that was low end on price and minimal in performance to match. Actually, I found myself rather enamoured with the device. Logitech, I am really impressed. Read more... |
Cities: Skylines' snowy expansion drops Feb. 18 Posted: 03 Feb 2016 05:45 AM PST I've seen snow only once or twice this year, and even then, it didn't stick around for long. Meanwhile, Brett is regaling us with tales about how he's just now venturing out of his snowed-in house for the first time since Sunday. As someone who grew up in the Midwest and has long since escaped to a milder climate, I can safely say I don't miss the chilly precipitation one bit. That said, I would like to take on mother nature as a virtual mayor. Would I win? Of course not. And my fair citizens would suffer immensely. But it'd be a good challenge, and that's all I want. Cities: Skylines is going to make this silly dream of mine a possibility with its upcoming Snowfall expansion, which hits Windows, Mac, and Linux on February 18 for $12.99. Steven, our honorary Mr. Plow, already gave us the rundown on the new content. Don't worry -- he's fully bonded and licensed by the city.

Rock Band 4 adds 'Get Lucky,' tons of fixes with February update Posted: 03 Feb 2016 05:00 AM PST Harmonix has just dropped a rather large update on Rock Band 4, which fixes a number of issues that were plaguing the game. It's that one -- the one that wipes the leaderboards clean due to exploits -- so be prepared to start over! There's also a few new items ready at the in-game storefront, and some more general fixes for other more minor issues. In terms of tracks, "Get Lucky," "Hey Ya!" (ugh) and "Heartbeat Song" have arrive. They're priced at the token $1.99 each. More songs are teased for February, including Bruno Mars and Five Finger Death Punch. Rock Band 4 [Harmonix]

Oh hey, Professor E. Gadd is coming to Super Mario Maker Posted: 03 Feb 2016 04:30 AM PST Super Mario Maker has been pretty fantastic in terms of its event course and 8-bit sprite offerings (read: free DLC), and this new one is no different. Professor E. Gadd of the Luigi's Mansion series joins the fray, complete with a ghost-themed level. Although I'm not creating levels on a regular basis due to a lot of the limitations involved, I love going back and clearing all the events that Nintendo and others cook up. I'll be doing just that tomorrow night when E. Gadd is added! Read more... |
Square Enix unveils Hitman's PS4 exclusive mission plans Posted: 03 Feb 2016 04:00 AM PST Sony has locked up some more exclusive content for yet another shooter -- Hitman. In fact, when the game's beta launches on February 12, PS4 owners will be able to play it a week before PC and Xbox One players. It has also confirmed that there will be six exclusive missions for the platform framed around a paramilitary unit -- the first of which will arrive at launch. The game itself will launch on March 11 with its episodic DLC format, and later in the year as a $60 retail release. Hitman on PS4: Beta and Story Details Revealed [PlayStation Blog] Read more... |
This Hong Kong restaurant chain is running a Monster Hunter promo Posted: 03 Feb 2016 03:30 AM PST Capcom and Square Enix are God-tier marketers, with new video game themed events seemingly every week in Japan. But Hong Kong is getting the latest one by way of the Satay King restaurant chain, as Capcom is promoting the recent release of Monster Hunter X. This isn't a half-assed attempt, either. The locations have been redecorated entirely, and there's tons of themed food items on display. I'm all about taking a sip of that potion (and possibly the three wheel motion if I can find a car). See Ramza in all his Dissidia glory right here Posted: 03 Feb 2016 03:00 AM PST Over the past few months we've covered all of the Dissidia Final Fantasy arcade character reveals, and the last character is a pretty welcome surprise -- Final Fantasy Tactics' Ramza Beoulve. You can watch him in action for the first time in the video below, employing a variety of sword-based and magic attacks. If you happen to live in Japan, Ramza will be available starting tomorrow. For now, he caps off the official roster for Dissidia arcade, and no more characters are expected for a bit. Though Square has noted that it eventually wants "over 50" to be in the game, and currently there are 15 -- so there's a ways to go! Read more... |
One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 pushes one million copies, sold worst in North America Posted: 03 Feb 2016 02:30 AM PST It's pretty well known that there are a lot of European One Piece fans out there (which is why they got this EU-specific special edition), and now hard data from Bandai Namco supports that fact. According to the publisher, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 sold 380,000 units in Japan, Europe had 320,000, then Asia with 200,000, and North America with 100,000. In total, that tops one million copies sold. I had a chance to speak to Tecmo Koei's Hisashi Koinuma a while back and he also specifically reiterated the strong fanbase in Europe. In other words, you probably have nothing to fear in terms of localizations or delays in the future for this series. Sales [Bandai Namco via Gematsu]

Now you can throw a fit in public with Mario Party Arcade Posted: 03 Feb 2016 02:00 AM PST You're leading by four Stars in Mario Party -- it's down to the final few turns -- and you've won most of the minigames so far so you're pretty sure the Minigame Star in the bag. Then your friend uncovers a hidden Star, gets a free Boo item to steal a Star from you, and gets the Happening Star at the end. You throw the controller at your console so hard it freezes the game. That's a common home experience for sure, but now you can do it in arcades too. Nintendo has announced Mario Party Mysterious Challenge World in conjunction with Capcom, set to debut on February 19 at the Japan Amusement Expo in Chiba. After that, it'll arrive in the summer nationwide. With how stale the series has been lately with Nd Cube, I'd actually love to see Capcom take a crack at it on consoles. Peter Molyneux, who is not speaking to press, speaks to Eurogamer Posted: 03 Feb 2016 01:30 AM PST We have a tag for 22 Cans here at Destructoid, and it's technically the first one from an alphanumeric standpoint. It's hardly ever used, but every time it pops up I think of Peter Molyneux. "What is he doing right now" I often ask, as I reflect on his storied career at Bullfrog and subsequent freefall from public grace. For a while there it was tough to figure out exactly what he was doing, as he "exiled" himself from the press. As we all know, things Molyneux says don't tend to stick. Because this time it's okay since he's promoting his new game. Speaking to Eurogamer in a piece that reads like the polar opposite of the infamous RPS interview (for both good and bad reasons), Molyneux noted that it was "tempting" to retire -- it's something he thought about a while ago, but it's also clearly a reflection of the recent "hack," in which someone gained access to his Twitter account to erroneously announce his retirement from gaming. He muses a bit on what's going on at 22 Cans, noting, "Last year the studio endured an exile of sorts as staff grew bored of working on Godus, a game everyone, it seemed, hated." Looking to the future, Molyneux is still working on his other project (rather than solely fixing the one he started, hyped, and is still broken), Godus Wars, which will be released next week. He states, "I had the chance to stand back and I tried to get to the core of what that journalist [John Walker of RPS] was saying, which was, you're over promising and under delivering. What's the solution? Here, a year later, is the solution." It's a companion to Godus in essence, free for original owners. Molyneux continues, saying, "After a couple of days I came up with this simple strategy: I would just be a coder and a designer, and I would talk to the press perhaps about something I had done and had released, but not talk to the press about what I am doing, because that is clearly not working, and redefine my relationship with those people," as he talks to a member of the press about what he's doing. Sadly, it was also revealed that Bryan Henderson, winner of Curiosity, has still yet to receive any money from 22 Cans. Even for the most ardent Molyneux defenders, this is a sore spot. I've always had a complicated relationship with Molyneux myself. I still remember reading about the promises of Project Ego in a gaming magazine over a decade ago, and feeling crestfallen when basically none of it happened. "Is this the same guy that helped create some of my favorite games like Dungeon Keeper, and Populous?" I couldn't believe it. While he was once a passionate visionary, his perpetual hype and mediocre projects started to rightfully wear on people. But to me, he'll always have his legacy. In a way I feel bad for him. He deserves the scrutiny, but the dude clearly loves video games, and just like Hideo Kojima and Miyamoto, he wants to create them until the day he dies. He's just...not as good at it anymore. Not speaking to the press and doing what makes him happy was probably the best -- though it's a trend I don't think is likely to continue, as he seems to require a general sense of approval, which is something he hasn't really had in a long while. Godspeed, Molyneux. "It was tempting to retire…" [Eurogamer]

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy confirmed for arcades! Posted: 03 Feb 2016 12:50 AM PST Just this morning, Square Enix confirmed that they are working on an arcade build for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. The same producer from the 3DS version will return to supervise the project, and more info is coming next week. As I've said before, Japanese arcades are a treasure. Depending on the hardware involved this could be a pretty killer game, as I can easily see current arcade rhythm technology working with this series. Kojima and Guillermo del Toro are keynote speakers at the D.I.C.E. Summit Posted: 03 Feb 2016 12:20 AM PST The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has confirmed today that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro will be keynote speakers at the 2016 D.I.C.E. Summit. It'll take place on Tuesday, on February 16 (the event will run until February 18 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas). They will apparently offer insight into their "creative vision and artistic pursuits" at the keynote. Kojima will also be inducted into the Academy's Hall of Fame at that time. With as much as these two have been screwed by studios, it's nice to see them together as friends on a stage. In other news, del Toro's Crimson Peak is seeing a home release this month, and I hope people give it a second chance after it was mismarketed as a horror film. Read more... |
Nintendo's first mobile app and new rewards program launch in March Posted: 03 Feb 2016 12:00 AM PST Nintendo's first mobile app, Miitomo, and its new rewards program, My Nintendo, are launching next month, the company's Japanese leadership revealed in an investors meeting today. Miitomo, a Tomodachi Life-esque social networking game, will launch in the middle of March on iOS and Android devices in 8 languages across 16 major markets, including the United States, Canada, Western Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, and Japan. Nintendo plans to use the app as a link between consoles and smart devices for My Nintendo, the company's successor to the recently-departed Club Nintendo program. This service will be available in 39 countries between North America, much of Europe, Oceania, South Africa, Russia, Japan, and Brazil. It will allow users to earn various types of rewards points to retrieve small digital prizes and coupons for software discounts by buying and playing games, amongst other things. Pre-registration for Miitomo will begin on February 17. Following its official launch, Nintendo plans to release "approximately" four more apps on smart devices by the end of March 2017. 2016年2月3日(水) 第3四半期決算説明会 [Nintendo]

Bungie to Destiny players: Are we having fun yet?! Posted: 02 Feb 2016 11:30 PM PST For weeks now, players have been sharing their frustrations with the direction of Destiny. If you just jumped into the game recently -- awesome! You have a ton of fun new stuff to do, including the base game, two previous expansions, and the Taken King add-on, which is a lot. But for those of us who have been playing since vanilla, the well has run dry. Which is a shame, as it's one of the best shooters from a technical standpoint currently on the market. Basically every recent event has been PVP oriented (and re-skinned), from head-to-head Sparrow racing, to Iron Banner, to "Crimson Doubles." Bungie hasn't added any new PVE content to the game in months (whatever happened to that Queen's Wrath event that was going "back in the oven," Bungie? I didn't forget!), and running the same raid is starting to get stale. I don't see nearly as many people from my old crew on anymore, as most of them shifted to the Division beta last week, and are planning to move there full-time next month. Bungo has to do something, even if it's providing some sort of roadmap as to what to expect before Destiny 2, because these fleeting temporary events aren't really cutting it. They seem to be indirectly reaching out (probably as to not admit fault), as players have obtained an email asking how to "improve" the game. If you want it to actually improve, voice your concerns there. Read more... |
Sega JRPG coming to Americas this summer Posted: 02 Feb 2016 11:00 PM PST 7th Dragon III Code: VFD is coming to the Americas this summer, Sega has announced. Despite being the fourth entry in the 7th Dragon series, Code: VFD will be the first to release in the West, as the 2009 Nintendo DS original and PSP spin-offs never left Japan. Considering the one's bonkers premise, that sounds like a shame -- we might have been missing out on something! Code: VFD involves saving the world (in 2100) from dragons by time-travelling to Atlantis, the futuristic capital of Eden, and modern-day Tokyo. And as if that weren't bizarre enough, the role-playing game involves rescuing stray cats from dungeons and sheltering them in a cat café. Code: VFD was the best-selling console game the week it launched in Japan last October. Previous entries in the franchise were developed by Imageepoch, the now-defunct studio behind Time & Eternity, Stella Glow, and Fate/Extra that declared bankruptcy and shuttered last spring. Sega of America plans to release Code: VFD both at retail and via the Nintendo 3DS eShop. No plans to distribute the title in Europe or Oceania have been disclosed at this time. You can find our own Brett Makedonski's Tokyo Game Show impressions of the game here. Read more... |
Guitar Hero Live is resurrecting the infamous 'Through the Fire and the Flames' Posted: 02 Feb 2016 10:00 PM PST Activision has been steadily supporting Guitar Hero Live's TV element for months now, adding constant new content to the game. Although it has microtransactions the system is more than fair, and allows for a ton of songs to be added in, free from the tethers of price "per track" DLC. Having used it since launch, I vastly prefer it to Rock Band's model, especially with the free special events that have been peppered throughout. I had a chance to talk to Nathan Coppard, Senior Game Designer at FreeStyleGames about an upcoming GHTV event, and it's one of the coolest sounding ones yet. In short, it's a five-track celebration event for some of Guitar Hero's toughest songs -- and they're kicking it off by bringing back "Through the Fire and Flames" by DragonForce, one of the most infamous songs in the series' history after it debuted in the third iteration. Dirt Rally dev targeting 1080p/60fps on consoles Posted: 02 Feb 2016 09:00 PM PST Dirt Rally developer Codemasters is hoping to hit 1080p and 60fps when the racer releases on consoles later this year. “We’re very, very close [to 1080p/60fps] on PS4,” chief game designer Paul Coleman told Videogamer. “We’ve still got a little bit more work to do on Xbox One. But, you know, I think that’s fair to say that for everyone out there, PS4 is certainly a little bit easier to get this stuff running smoothly.” Though the target for Xbox One remains "a bit touch and go," Coleman confirmed that if the studio was unable to make it work with “troublemaker scenarios” like heavy snow, they’ll adopt a dynamic resolution approach rather than drop it to 900p across the whole game. "[The Xbox One version] doesn't look like we've stripped it back or anything," he added. "It looks much the same as the PS4 version. I think it's just that it's been easier for us to get PS4 working at the performance we've been hoping for." "But ultimately I want to be running at 1080p/60fps wherever we can." Ex-Blizzard devs develop new episodic horror game, Broken Posted: 02 Feb 2016 08:00 PM PST Ex-Blizzard developers have banded together to produce new episodic horror game, Broken. Said to be inspired by games like The Walking Dead, The Last of Us and Half-Life, the new studio - Kollide Entertainment - wants to develop a narrative-driven, action-adventure horror game. “Broken is an episodic third-person action adventure game series set in the year 2021,” states the Kickstarter. “This is an original story that follows the personal adventure of Logan Kyle, a Navy Seal, and his family as they experience the end of the world on the front lines of an extremist group's catastrophic global biological weapon attack, resulting in death and a rare, but most horrific mutation.” “Broken's focus is 100% story driven; all aspects of the game will support that goal. We will be doing away with some of the time draining staples of the current action-adventure scene such as repetitive puzzle-based level design, arbitrary collection artifacts, obscenely difficult enemy spawn encounters, and superfluous achievements.” “Essentially, our goal is to offer unique immersive story experiences and to streamline gameplay such that returning to our game in between gameplay sessions is as seamless as possible. Ever stopped playing a game for a few weeks only to return to it and have no idea what the controls were? Yeah, us too.” The Kickstarter seeks $275,000 by the end of the month and offers a breakdown of how it intends to use contributions to complete the pre-production process. For more, head on over to the Kickstarter page for pics, info, and even a lovely video. Broken is scheduled to hit PC/MAc first, with “future plans” to bring it to Xbox One, PS4, and mobile devices. Saints Row, Metro, Sacred, and more join PS Now Posted: 02 Feb 2016 07:00 PM PST Deep Silver has just released a whole load of its back catalogue on to the PS Now streaming service. Saint’s Row: Gat Out of Hell, Escape Dead Island, Metro: Last Light, Narco Terror, Risen 3: Titan Lords, Sacred Citadel, and Sacred 3 are now all available for streaming to your PS3, PS4 or PS Vita. Some of those games, like Metro: Last Light, are really good. Others are uh… not so great. Looking at you, Sacred 3. These games join Saints Row 2, 3, and 4, Dead Island, Dead Island Riptide, and a lot of other Deep Silver games that were already available on the service. To be honest, the biggest news here is that people apparently actually use PS Now? For $19.99/£12.99 a month on top of my PS+ subscription, I’d always figured it was way too expensive to bother with. Do you use PS Now? Do you like it? Does anyone like it? Metro: Last Light and Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell Join PS Now Subscriptions [PlayStation.Blog]
