MissingNo lives on in the Pokemon 3DS re-releases Posted: 25 Feb 2016 02:30 PM PST Do you wanna glitch the hell out of the 3DS ports of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow? I hadn't planned on it, exactly. But I've never encountered "MissingNo" first-hand before, and this weekend seems like the appropriate time to do so. It's the series' 20th anniversary! The Gen 1 re-releases won't allow you to create restore points, but they will support wireless play, and the glitches (at least everyone's favorite "missing number" Pokémon) appear to be left alone. This video from YouTube user Epi Demie shows a demonstration in Pokémon Blue. For a breakdown of how to initiate the infamous glitch and an explanation of why it happens, GT's Pop Fiction has you covered. Stick around for the nostalgic recap of old fan theories. Oculus teasing a card game better than Yu-Gi-Oh Posted: 25 Feb 2016 01:30 PM PST Boy genius and founder of Oculus, Palmer Luckey, has seemingly teased that some kind of virtual-reality card battle game is in the works, saying, "Anyone remember the Virtual World arc of Yu-Gi-Oh? Get ready for something even better!" Luckey also retweeted a tweet that said, "Awesome. A VR card game like Magic the Gathering would be perfect!" Perhaps this tweet hit the nail on the head, and it will be a new MtG game that spawns VR versions of your cards? Jason Rubin, also part of the company, replied to Palmer stating, "Excited for this announcement! One of the experiences most 'tested' around Oculus Studios..." Whatever it is, it sounds like something even the Oculus team digs. For those of you who aren't hip on Yu-Gi-Oh or the Virtual World story arc, educate yourself. I know Luckey has done some amazing things, but making something better than Yu-Gi-Oh? Now that is a lofty goal, am I right? Disclosure: I don't know anything about Yu-Gi-Oh other than I hate the lead character's hair and Blue Eyes White Dragon is a thing. Palmer Luckey [Twitter]

Steam copies of Superhot are $18 at Green Man Gaming Posted: 25 Feb 2016 01:00 PM PST We're not big-time FPS fans (because it makes us dizzy), but what if... time slows down as long as we don't move and the whole getting-robot-dizzy is null!? Released earlier today, Supershot has been well met by critics and fans alike. If you're interested in the game, it's receiving a release-day discount at multiple retailers such as Steam and Green Man Gaming. At the latter store, you can stack an additional 20% off code to get Superhot for only $18. A decent price given how new the title is.
GMG's code above is supposed to expire tomorrow morning at 10:00am Pacific, but considering it has extended this particular 20% off code since the beginning of February, we think it'll get extended again (plus at this point, 20% off is fairly standard at GMG). While that specific coupon is standard, stacking discounts aren't always a sure thing -- so don't be surprised if the deal gets nixed later this week. If you want to wait for an even bigger discount, Steam's Spring Sale is a month or so away so you can always check back then. Game deals from Dealzon. Sales help support Destructoid.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round is teaming up with Samurai Warriors Posted: 25 Feb 2016 12:10 PM PST As much as I like the idea of that hunks-in-swimsuits story sitting at the top of the site's Dead or Alive feed for eternity, release date news and screenshots of another character and stage in Dead or Alive 5 Last Round are worth touching on. The next few content drops are going to be crossovers. Naotora Ii from Samurai Warriors will debut in Last Round for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on March 17, 2016, followed by an appearance in the PC version on March 29. She's $5.99 standalone, or $11.99 bundled with her "debut" costume pack (which is $7.99 on its own). There can never only be just one set! Speaking of: a Samurai Warriors costume pack for existing DoA characters drops on March 29. There's also a bit of free content. Dead or Alive 3's Azuchi stage, based on Oda Nobunaga's real-world Azuchi Castle, hits Last Round (PS4 and Xbox One) on March 17. Lastly, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja did that thing games do where they try to justify why a crossover character would show up to fight in a different time period. It's sufficiently silly: "Dragged into a mysterious portal by-way-of a M.I.S.T. time-traveling experiment, the ruler of Japan's Warring States era Ii Clan, Naotora Ii, emerges in present-day next to a competitor of the Dead or Alive fighting tournament. Given no other choice but to fight for her life, and keeping her family motto of 'once on the battlefield, one must face the enemy head on' in mind, a determined Naotora sets out to emerge victorious from this strange new challenge." If that doesn't make sense yet, it might after you rummage through this gallery. (It won't.) Read more... |
Play some free Black Ops III multiplayer this weekend Posted: 25 Feb 2016 11:30 AM PST Steam's doing one of those things where you can play a game for free all weekend long. Don't those feel good? Like you're the beneficiary of some screw-up in the PC game control room. Some schmuck pushed the wrong button and now you're reaping the rewards. What an idiot, that guy. The reality is less titillating, but equally full of temporarily free stuff. Activision has a promotion where you can play Call of Duty: Black Ops III's multiplayer for free this weekend until Sunday at 1pm Pacific. It's the version of the game that only has multiplayer, as Activision's in the process of testing out that concept's viability. Of course, the idea is that you'll be so enamored with Black Ops III that you'll go ahead and plunk down some cash to keep playing. Maybe you don't want all that double XP you earned to go to waste. Maybe if enough people buy it, control room guy won't get fired for that unfortunate mistake. He might even get promoted! Wow, a real rags-to-riches underdog success story that guy could possibly be. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is playable on Xbox One again Posted: 25 Feb 2016 11:00 AM PST Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved -- it's still really dang good! The treasured Xbox Live Arcade twin-stick shooter has resurfaced as a backward-compatible title on Xbox One. Previously, it was available to folks in the console's preview program. Now it's back, open to the wider public, and some people are pissed about the lack of support for other Xbox 360 games like Red Dead Redemption and Call of Duty: Black Ops. Chill! My experience with backward compatibility has varied, performance-wise, but Geometry Wars on Xbox One feels more or less "right." I foolishly tried to go for a high score and maybe earn a few Achievements while I was at it but, years out of practice, I failed miserably. Major Nelson [Twitter]

Racing sim Assetto Corsa pushed to June for PS4, Xbox One Posted: 25 Feb 2016 10:00 AM PST Are you in the mood for a racing game? Not, like, right now, but in general? I only ever seem to become heavily invested in one or two a year, if that, and then I want no business with the genre. Currently, I'm all Crew-ed out on virtual driving (unless we get another proper, full-fledged Burnout, whether it's from Criterion or ex-series developers), but I might be back in the mood by the time Assetto Corsa hits PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this summer. Then again, this game intimidates. Steven tells me he crashed as often as he did in Project CARS, which I assume to be "a scary amount." (He assures he's a good driver in real life.) Then there's Steam user VeRDe who, with 301 hours logged in the PC version, claims "A cat is still alive because of the real world driving reflexes I gained from Assetto Corsa... 10/10." After a short delay, the racing sim is now coming to consoles on June 3, 2016 in Europe and June 7, 2016 in North America. The week before E3!

An intimate moment from Far Cry Primal Posted: 25 Feb 2016 09:00 AM PST Hold on a sec. What's that grunting? I thought I cleared this entire area of enemies already. Oh. OHHHHH. Uh, sorry to interrupt. Carry on then. Gotta max out that tribe population progress bar!

Rise of the Tomb Raider's first month PC sales nearly tripled Xbox's Posted: 25 Feb 2016 08:30 AM PST Despite Microsoft seeming happy with Rise of the Tomb Raider selling somewhere greater than one million units, that couldn't have been the performance it hoped for when shelling out big bucks to wrap up limited-time exclusivity. The relatively low number wasn't a disinterest in Tomb Raider, though; it looks to have been a disinterest in Tomb Raider on that particular platform. Superdata, a research group, released its January 2016 digital sales report today, and that data suggests that Rise of the Tomb Raider fared significantly better on PC. According to the report, "[It] sold almost three times as many units than it did on console during its first month." There are some extenuating circumstances in play. As the report acknowledges, the PC version of Rise of the Tomb Raider released at a time when the triple-A schedule was more calm. Simply, there was less competition when compared to the middle of November. Specifically, Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox launched on the same day as Fallout 4, which seemed a rather curious (and ill-advised) decision. Superdata says this is partially to blame for the console version's soft sales, even though top Xbox employees insisted this wasn't a problem because they are "not direct competitors, per se." In hindsight, it probably was a problem. A rough estimate puts Rise of the Tomb Raider's three month (and lifetime) sales somewhere around four million. Square Enix hasn't offered an opinion on whether this is considered "a success" or, more importantly, if it's profitable yet. If not, the game still hasn't come to PlayStation 4, but it's expected to later this year. When that happens, it should prove to be another nice boost for the sales stats. Subnautica's farming update is more my speed Posted: 25 Feb 2016 08:00 AM PST Despite survival-game fatigue, I ended up getting Subnautica a few weeks back. The recent H2.0 update (hah) introduced a tool for scanning creatures and plants, and unsurprisingly, that did the trick. I couldn't hold out any longer for the Steam Early Access phase to wrap up. Today's update also seems keenly aware of my weird gaming interests. It adds underwater farming, something I must take part in, and the option to build a big 'ol aquarium. "It can be built within standard room modules, stacked for greater capacity, and entered via side-mounted hatches (built separately). Alien lifeforms of varying sizes can be captured and stored, or grown from eggs in controlled conditions designed to match their optimal environment." That's the sort of thing I could get lost in for a few hours, definitely. Other additions include abandoned bases with precious salvageable tech and more ways to fend off darkness, including a neat little LED light stick that looks like an energy sword when you hold it. Remedy has trademarked Alan Wake's Return Posted: 25 Feb 2016 07:30 AM PST Remedy Entertainment has its hands full in the coming months, what with Quantum Break releasing in early April and all. That hasn't stopped the studio from looking ever so slightly ahead, though. And, it's in a direction that should please many of the developer's fans. Earlier this week, Remedy filed a trademark within the European Union for "Alan Wake's Return." That phrase could be the title of a new game, an expression to use in marketing materials, the name of some other form of planned media, or it could turn out to be nothing at all. Whatever it is, Remedy thought it'd be wise to officially lock it down. Remedy hasn't been shy in the past about saying more Alan Wake was likely to happen. The last we saw of the embattled writer, he was playing a twisted version of Groundhog Day in Alan Wake's American Nightmare. Any sort of return would have a high standard to live up to, as Alan Wake was one of the best games on the Xbox 360. Hopefully Remedy has an ocean of ideas, not just a lake. All Far Cry Primal PC deals before next week's release Posted: 25 Feb 2016 07:00 AM PST On Tuesday Ubisoft's Far Cry Primal released on consoles with a mostly positive reception. The PC version is scheduled to launch a week later on March 1, and as of writing can be found cheaper than the standard $59.99. Four retailers have discounts up to 40% off due to currency conversion favor. GamesPlanet, Funstock Digital, and DLGamer all come with the "Legend of the Mammoth" pre-order DLC though GMG makes no mention of it (probably because the source of the keys are "authorized distributors" vs. straight from the publisher).
Post-release we expect these sites to offer some sort of discount on the game, but there will probably be a slight jump in price during release week/month. Digital Apex Edition? If you like the discount but really wanted that slightly more expensive "Apex Edition" there is a discount available. Games Planet has the price tagged at £34.99, which converts to about $48.75 USD. The Apex Edition at Games Planet contains the same "Legend of the Mammoth" pre-order bonus DLC that you'd find on the standard edition plus a few other digital goodies such as the unbreakable "Blood Shasti Club" weapon and four enhancement packs that are rare resource items you'd only find later in the game (you pay for early access to items). For an extra $5 or so, we think you can safely skip the Apex Edition. Game deals from Dealzon. Sales help support Destructoid.

Charmander is objectively the most powerful generation one starter Pokemon Posted: 25 Feb 2016 06:30 AM PST It has been known for 20 years now: Charmander is the right choice. For one, its tail is on fire. For two, it's a lizard, which is better than a turtle or a whatever Bulbasaur is supposed to be (some sort of gremlin, probably). For three, it evolves into a dragon. You can't beat that. But those are all very feely reasons to pick Charmander during the first visit to Professor Oak. Now we have some cold hard facts to back it up. I'm talking straight science. Thomas Codd, a natural sciences student at the University of Leicester, wanted to know which of the three starter Pokémon is the most offensively powerful, so he crunched the numbers. Specifically, he looked at the energetic output of each Pokémon's signature move in its fully evolved form. He compared Charizard's Flamethrower, Blastoise's Hydro Cannon, and Venusaur's Solar Beam, and it was a blowout. By measuring the size of Venusaur's petals, Codd determined the amount of solar energy converted to the beam to be about 194 kilojoules. The volume and velocity of water from Blastoise's cannons nearly double that at 386 kilojoules. Charizard puts both to shame with the heat from its flames producing about 7 billion kilojoules of energy. That's about 18 million times as much as Hydro Cannon. To put it into perspective, the energy produced by Hydro Cannon could power a 60 watt light bulb for about 107 minutes. Meanwhile, the energy produced by Flamethrower could power that same light bulb for almost 3700 years. Good game, Blastoise, but you need to realize when you've been bested. I don't care if you're Super Effective against Charizard; it still has you beat by several orders of magnitude.

Play Minesweeper in the most obtuse way possible - a Windows 98 OS emulator Posted: 25 Feb 2016 06:00 AM PST Yo dawg... So someone got the bright idea to program a Windows 98 emulator. It literally recreates an old-school PC experience, with custom parameters and Linux options for those of you who want to experiment. Freecell, Hearts (the best one, come at me), Solitaire, and Minesweeper are also playable, if you want that video game angle. Oh, and try the Sheep executable (app?) -- you'll thank me later. In all seriousness, I love that people are preserving old tech like this. Remembering our history is important, and that extends to computers as well. Virtual x86 [Copy.sh]

Reagan Gorbachev is Cold War Hotline Miami Posted: 25 Feb 2016 05:45 AM PST What if presidents in world-leading nations, the ones that get to decide who's a "bad guy" and who's a "good guy," more directly embraced the deaths they cause? Reagan Gorbachev isn't asking that question. The Hotline Miami-styled "top-down action stealth game" just came to PC and Xbox One and despite starring two historical figures is, "is not a political game," just "historical." The duo was used as an obvious metaphor for teamwork across fraught relations (it's a one- to two-player game and I imagine the latter is the better way to play). "We wanted to make a game that required two unique and disparate characters to work together towards a common goal. In doing so, we're hoping to subtly reinforce a message that is absolutely critical in life: shared goals require teamwork." But while this clinical analog might work for those with the appropriate distance, the idea of wandering around as senile, murderous Reagan is pretty dang off-putting for me given how badly he affected the lives of millions of people do this day. His administration illegally sold guns to Iran to illegally fund Nicaraguan terrorists trying to overthrow the government. To say nothing for the continued vigor he put into the "War on Drugs" in the US that has led to an insanely huge prison population and destroyed countless lives or the financial sector deregulation he kicked off that's led to 30 years of stagnant wages. So, I don't know, "ooh a former president is killing people with a sword!" just ain't enough for me. Read more... |
The Pokemon Photo Booth iOS app is...something Posted: 25 Feb 2016 05:30 AM PST Nintendo and The Pokemon Company is continuing the festivities for the 20th anniversary of those crazy old Pocket Monsters, and the occasion this week is an iOS photo app. It's called, quite simply, the Pokémon Photo Booth, and it seems to be a perfect wellspring for those "dank memes" your uncle is always talking about. Yep, it's literally a photo shoot where you can insert #branding terms and instantly share them to various social channels. Social! Pokémon Photo Booth [Apple]

Trine developer's new game gets cheaper the more people play the demo Posted: 25 Feb 2016 05:00 AM PST Frozenbyte Games is doing an interesting promotion for its next project, Shadwen. If enough people play the demo and complete various goals, the price will go down. This includes stats like body counts and completing the session without being detected. It's available now on Steam, the Humble Store, and GOG.com if you're interested. As you can see in the video below, players accumulate a community total, which eventually serves as a discount for the game. So what is it? It's a third-person stealth action game that focuses on platforming -- which the added gimmick of being able to use the environment. Read more... |
Capcom's re-releasing Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 this year Posted: 25 Feb 2016 04:48 AM PST Almost a year ago, Capcom told investors that it wanted to continue the trend of putting out old titles on newer platforms. Last November, it seemed as if a re-release of Resident Evil 6 was definitely in the works -- a move that would be consistent with its aforesaid strategy. But, it looks as if the plans are significantly more ambitious. We've just learned that Capcom will re-release Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6 this year on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Resident Evil 6 will launch first on March 29; after that, Resident Evil 5 is scheduled for sometime in the summer, and Resident Evil 4 is set for the fall. The games are individually priced at $19.99 each, and they come with all add-ons and DLC. A physical edition will eventually be available in the Americas, most certainly after the eventual release of Resident Evil 4. Curiously, Capcom didn't make note of what kind of re-releases these are. The original Resident Evil HD version came out early last year (and was wildly successful), so it's reasonable to think they're probably remasters. Obviously, Resident Evil 4 would be the game to benefit most from this, seeing as it first launched on PlayStation 2 and GameCube. But, there's the possibility that these are just straight ports. Whatever the case may be, a lot of old Resident Evil is releasing again this year, and that's going to thrill a lot of people. Action-Packed Resident Evil Favorites Coming in 2016 [Capcom]

Cave shooter Deathsmiles is free until the end of the month Posted: 25 Feb 2016 04:30 AM PST Deathsmiles is basically Shmup 101 at this point, and if you haven't played it, you're free to download it on iOS until February 29. As a note, it's typically $11.99, and the touch controls actually work great -- in fact, there's even a mobile-specific mode that makes things more manageable. This deal is to promote the upcoming Steam release, which is still on track for March 10. Give it a shot! Or at the very least, just download it now with the intention of playing it at some point, possibly even as a demo for the PC edition. Deathsmiles [Apple]

Review: Assassin's Creed Identity Posted: 25 Feb 2016 04:00 AM PST I'm sure none of you are chomping at the bit to return to the Italian Renaissance after millions of other Assassin's Creed games in the same setting, but Identity, recently released on iOS, expects you to roll with it. And roll with it I did, as Ubisoft has actually managed to translate the typical stabby simulator experience to mobile devices. The caveat -- it's just that -- typical. Read more... |
Mega Man Legacy Collection's Japanese trailer is nuts Posted: 25 Feb 2016 03:30 AM PST If you're prone to seizures, exit the building now. The Mega Man Legacy Collection is out worldwide in physical form, and Capcom has a new Japanese trailer to celebrate. It's...flashy to say the least, but it gets the job done in explaining what the package is all about -- the first six games, artwork, and various challenges. There's also a preview of the two new 3DS themes at the very end. Read more... |
Nintendo Download: Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow Posted: 25 Feb 2016 03:00 AM PST The 3DS is king this week, but Wii U is getting a few new additions today. Nintendo's console is getting Medabots AX: Metabee and Rokusho, as well as 6180 the moon, Inside My Radio, Replay: VHS is not dead, Smart Adventures - Mission Math, and Volcanic Field 2. The Wii U edition of Minecraft is getting a major update too, with new biomes and a settler's skin pack. 3DS is rocking it, with Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow on February 27, in addition to Return to Popolocrois (on March 1), and the Mega Man Legacy Collection. Also on 3DS is Sadame, and Toy Defense. Read more... |
Tusk's new character model teased for Killer Instinct Posted: 25 Feb 2016 02:30 AM PST Killer Instinct is really gaining momentum going into its third season. Over the years it started to curry more favor among the community at large, and at this point, there's a pretty sizeable audience for the game. The upcoming Cross-Buy and Cross-Play PC version will help that cause for sure. In addition to the Arbiter, the team also teased another addition to the game -- the classic series character Tusk. His inclusion was previously known, but now we have a better idea of how his updated character model looks. I'm pretty excited for the future of this game! Read more... |
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na Batmobile in Rocket League! Posted: 25 Feb 2016 02:15 AM PST Last year we got Back to the Future's DeLorean in Rocket League, complete with its own special OUTATIME explosion and flaming tire track boost. It was pretty popular, so more premium battle-cars seemed like a given. For this one, Psyonix teamed up with Warner Bros. and DC Comics to bring the Batmobile onto the pitch. Of course, it has its own sleek bat signal explosion. Now, this is the Batmobile from the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so it's perhaps not as near and dear to our hearts as the ones from '90s Batman movies, the Adam West series, or the original comics. But still, it has that Bat feel to it. Lots of black, and an enormous hood with a cab way too far back. Batman probably smashes into small children on the regular. But I digress. The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Car Pack will be out on March 8 and run about two bucks.

Bandai Namco to publish Dark Souls-like Necropolis Posted: 25 Feb 2016 02:00 AM PST Once upon a time, you could be playing Necropolis on March 17 -- just next month -- when it came to Steam. Those days are over now as Bandai Namco has jumped in to publish the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the four-player (drop-in, drop-out co-op) roguelike with some serious Dark Souls DNA (it even controls similarly). Independent developer Harebrained Schemes (Shadowrun Returns) is still self-publishing its next title on PC, but that has been pushed back to release in step with the console versions that Bandai Namco's handling. Accordingly we've moved from a specific March release date to a more nebulous "summer 2016" window as Namco does its publishing thing. Pretty interesting the latter would see the framework of one of its better known titles in an upcoming indie game and offer to help out with that final push out the door (there are long and arduous certification processes for getting games on either Xbox Live or PSN, as well as different ways of marketing on those marketplaces, etc). Oh, plus there's a vomiting mechanic. It's great. Not to mention I'm already excited for the sequel, Necropolice.

Is reporting the news 'spoiling a surprise?' Fun with Pokemon Sun and Moon Posted: 25 Feb 2016 01:30 AM PST So, Pokémon, am I right guys? If you've been on the Internet at all today (I hear it's pretty great), you've probably seen the discussion regarding Pokémon Sun and Moon, the supposedly new pair of games that Nintendo is going to unveil at tomorrow's Nintendo Direct. Folks have uncovered a European trademark listing for it, and this tweet from a Game Freak developer hints at something "sun and moon" related. It seems viable, yet at this point, it's just a rumor (people have been falling for this hilarious NinlendoAmerica account in the meantime). But what's really on my mind isn't a new, inevitable Pokémon entry with a nebulous word choice that describes literally nothing specific about the game. It's that folks have been calling out outlets for "spoiling the surprise." Do you...know how the Internet works? Read more... |
Do you meet up locally anymore to play games? Posted: 25 Feb 2016 01:00 AM PST As a kid, it was always easy to have gaming meetups. My birthday parties were Killer Instinct SNES tournaments. In my teenage years, LAN parties were a staple, and lugging a huge rig around was way more fun than it sounds. The original DoTA, Halo, Madden, Super Smash Bros., and everything in-between was played in my dorm. While growing old has its benefits (ice cream at midnight, take that mom), it also equally has its drawbacks. People grow apart, get families, and either move out of hardcore gaming as a hobby entirely or cut back. Flash forward to modern day, and one of the only regular things I play that resembles a LAN-esque setup is a weekly Heroes of the Storm meetup. It's basically just my wife and my friend Steve playing together, occasionally with people online that I know, getting pizza, catching up, and enjoying ourselves. I treasure this time, but unfortunately they're going to be less frequent, as he's expecting his first child any day now. Beyond that I attend local fighting game tournaments, but for the most part, the vast majority of my gaming experience is rooted in online play. Everything has become more isolated. Now, I'm not one of those people who laments change, as the vast improvements to online infrastructure have greatly benefited me over the years, especially in the MMO realm. By that same token, a lot of the aforementioned friends use online play to reconnect with people -- whether it's due to a newborn or moving house. I don't have that local connection as much as I'd used to, but I'm always looking for ways to reconnect with people. For now, gaming online mostly fills that void. What's your situation like?

Posted: 25 Feb 2016 12:00 AM PST Without thinking, I chucked a cue ball at the bartender, ran up and grabbed the shotgun as it flew out of his hands, and shot him point blank. I then watched as his fragile frame crumpled to the floor and shattered like glass. A bullet flew past my ear and hovered there as I paused to observe it, alerting me to the presence of another person who was about to meet the same fate as the bartender. I felt unstoppable. It's a shooter at heart, but Superhot brings something fresh and unexpected to the FPS genre. It mixes thrilling, action-packed combat with meticulous, precision planning, and somehow these opposing ideas are able to unfold simultaneously. It's all just a matter of timing, and in Superhot, time is in the player's hands. Read more... |
Details leak for Fallout 4's new survival mode Posted: 24 Feb 2016 11:00 PM PST One of my favorite Fallout experiences ever (and I'm including the wonderful Interplay era) is playing New Vegas on a modded survival mode. A minimal HUD, and requirements like finding water on a constant basis made the game pretty damn thrilling, not to mention the fact that you could actually play a role, unlike the one forced onto you in Fallout 4, and to a lesser extent, Fallout 3. Clever folks over at reddit have recently mined the game and found new details for Bethesda's upcoming survival mode update for Fallout 4, which the publisher has now confirmed. Essentially, you can enable it anywhere with a simple menu swipe, and it instantly allows you to do more (as well as take more) damage. Manual and quicksave options are disabled, and you'll need to sleep at least an hour to save. Fast Travel is completely gone. Beyond that, enemies won't show up on your compass, and fatigue actually...matters now. You can read a whole bunch of other minute details here in the full log. It all sounds fun, but it just makes me want to play New Vegas again. Fallout 4 Survival Mode Full Overview (extracted from in-game files) [reddit]
