New mythical Pokemon Magearna revealed Posted: 14 Feb 2016 01:55 PM PST The Pokémon Company has unveiled a new Mythical Pokémon, Magearna. Known as the "Artificial Pokémon," Magearna is said to have been created 500 years ago, and will feature prominently in a new feature-length Pokémon movie, expected to release later this year. The film sees protagonist Ash Ketchum form a mysterious bond with Volcanion and travel to "a city of cogs and gears," where a corrupt minister has stolen Magearna with plans to use its power to take control of the mechanical kingdom. Naturally, it's up to Ash and Volcanion to save the day. Read more... |

Posted: 14 Feb 2016 09:15 AM PST XCOM 2 is a frustrating game, and not just due to the infamous difficulty the franchise is known for. It's frustrating because there is an absolutely fantastic game at its core, a total improvement on what was already one of the best turn-based strategy experiences of the last few years. I've had amazing fun navigating its battlegrounds, fussing over what perks to assign my soldiers, and panicking as the tiny blue dot called Earth seemed to be slipping through my fingers and into alien control. All too often though, that fun was sabotaged by game-breaking bugs, performance hitches, and a level of jankiness you just don't expect from a sequel launching on a single platform. XCOM 2 still managed to win me over, but my tacit stamp of approval comes with more qualifications and provisos than most used car sales. It's a fantastic, but damn near-broken product. Dream Casting: Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie - A Happy Madison Production Posted: 14 Feb 2016 07:00 AM PST By now you've probably seen the recent news of a Sonic the Hedgehog movie, or maybe you caught wind of it when it was news the first time two years ago. Either way, I'm here to answer the question that no one is asking: who should be cast in the upcoming part animation, part live-action on-screen adaption of the Blue Blur? The answer? All your favorite stars from Happy Madison Productions. Read more... |
Posted: 14 Feb 2016 06:00 AM PST Rhythm games are always interesting because of how much emphasis rests on the music. Don't like the music? Well, chances are you won't like the game, regardless of the mechanics. There's a lot of subjectivity there, which makes reviewing them a bit of a conundrum. That being said, one thing must be true for rhythm platformers: the music and gameplay need to coagulate together to form a solid foundation that the entire game is based on. Read more... |
Enjoy Valentine's Day the Sentai way with Chroma Squad's Mark Venturelli Posted: 14 Feb 2016 05:00 AM PST [Sup Holmes is a weekly talk show for people that make great video games. It airs live every Sunday at 4:00pm EST on YouTube, and can be found in Podcast form on Libsyn and iTunes.] [Update: Show's over folks! Other than a brutal sunspot attack in the last ten minutes of the broadcast, the whole thing went really well. The rerun should be up soon, but in the meantime, here's a trailer for a spooky new Relic Hunters Zero update. The game is totally free, with no attempts at monetization of any kind. Mark's only motivation in making it and releasing it to the public was love. Happy Valentine's Day indeed!] Today on Sup Holmes we're happy to welcome Mark Venturelli of Rogue Snail to the program. Mark is probably best know for his work on Chroma Squad, the Power Rangers-meets-Sim City Super Sentai tactical RPG sensation, but that's far from the only title he's worked on. We'll be talking to him about why Chroma Squad became such a hit, what it was like to be on the receiving end of legal action from Saban, and a lot more. Join us at 2:30pm EST for the who cyborg ninja Vs. kaiji ikimashou extravaganza.

NECA Toys director says Sony is 'bringing Crash Bandicoot back' Posted: 14 Feb 2016 01:27 AM PST Did a toy director just confirm a Crash Bandicoot reboot? Over at the New York Toy Fair this weekend, PixelDan managed to catch up with Randy Falk of NECA Toys to chat a bit about some upcoming figures and products. In addition to musing on comic book merch and such, he touched on a Sony line that involves Nathan Drake, Kratos, and...Crash? Falk noted his enthusiasm for Sony products (all of this starts at 4:00 in the video below), stating "we've got back in with Sony. And looking at some of their other titles...I see they're bringing Crash Bandicoot back, so there's some great stuff there." This is directly following a tease from one of Sony's Twitter accounts. As far as we know, Activision still holds the rights to Crash, but it's possible Sony could have worked something out as an exclusive (after all, they've been getting quite cozy together with things like timed exclusivity with the Call of Duty map packs), or bought the rights back altogether. We've reached out to both for more information. My prediction? They'll backpedal and just say "oh we meant bringing back a toy line," and then announce a new Crash at E3. Read more... |
Posted: 14 Feb 2016 01:00 AM PST Layers of Fear has a knack for animating the inanimate. Many of its real-world paintings would appear unsettling even in a well-lit museum on a crowded discount-admission day. (Take, for instance, Goya's Saturn Devouring His Son.) But to see some of these faces peering at you, contorted and disfigured? Or sneakily popping up behind you while your back is turned? Gah! I nearly flung my mouse off my desk a few times. These and other cleverly-timed scares shouldn't haven't gotten me so good. Menacing as they seem at first, they're actually quite harmless. And yet, more often than not, Layers of Fear managed to startle me -- even on a second playthrough. Read more... |
