Steam: Rise of the Tomb Raider hits PC in January Posted: 26 Dec 2015 12:35 PM PST Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to PC next month, according to the game's Steam page. While Square Enix hasn't yet made any official commitment to releasing the title (our favorite Xbox One game of the year) in any specific month, January falls within its "early 2016" launch window. PlayStation 4 owners are in for a longer wait, of course. Due to an exclusivity deal with Microsoft, Rise of the Tomb Raider won't be appearing on Sony platforms until holiday 2016 at the earliest. Indivisible hits another stretch goal, aims for full VO and multiple endings Posted: 26 Dec 2015 11:30 AM PST Even though Indivisible hit its funding goal earlier this month, developer/publisher team Lab Zero and 505 Games continue to seek additional funding through a "slacker backer" campaign, also conducted via the game's existing Indiegogo page. Custom donations are no longer possible, but you can choose from one of the available perks. Indivisible recently hit one of its stretch goals: an animated intro produced by Titmouse (of The Venture Bros and Motorcity fame) and a mystery anime studio. At $2.05 million, all characters will be given full voiceover. According to Lab Zero, "Indivisible is currently budgeted to only have voices in battle and some critical story scenes. With the money raised for this stretch goal, we'll expand the voice acting to cover all interactions with major characters." The campaign has another stretch goal, priced at $2.3 million. Should that money be raised, Indivisible will be updated after release with a hardcore post-ending dungeon, and multiple story endings for a hypothetical New Game Plus. "The multiple endings [...] may change depending on when in the game you defeat the final boss or who is in your party when you beat them." As with most crowdfunding campaigns, any money raised past the stated funding goals will go towards the game. Planned gameplay expansions will be implemented after release, in the interest of getting Indivisible out in a timely manner. Indivisible - RPG from the Creators of Skullgirls [Indiegogo] |
Sonic-inspired Freedom Planet getting a sequel Posted: 26 Dec 2015 10:00 AM PST Freedom Planet 2 is a thing that's happening, indie developer GalaxyTrail has announced. As the follow-up to what began a Sonic the Hedgehog fan game, "Freedom Planet 2 is all about advancing and evolving our style into something truly distinguishable," GalaxyTrail says. "The original Freedom Planet was modeled as a tribute to Sega Genesis platform games. We've learned what works and what doesn't, what's fun and what's frustrating, what we should expand on and what we can afford to lose. With all of this in mind, we feel that we are ready to bid farewell to nostalgia and create a sequel that will define Freedom Planet's identity as a franchise." GalaxyTrail plans to release a beta version of Freedom Planet 2 by mid-2017. The full game is then expected to arrive on PC, Mac, and Linux, plus Nintendo and potentially more platforms later on. Freedom Planet is now available on PC and Wii U, thanks to a successful Kickstarter campaign. |

Not one, but two God Eater games coming west Posted: 26 Dec 2015 06:00 AM PST After establishing God Eater as a popular franchise in Japan, Bandai Namco is working to bring its response to the Monster Hunter phenomenon to the rest of the word next year. This week, the publisher announced plans to localize both God Eater Resurrection, a remake of the original game, and God Eater 2: Rage Burst for North American and European audiences. God Eater is set in the 2050s, when ravenous monsters known begin consuming all life on Earth, and follows a team of elite hunters, on whose shoulders rests humanity's last hope for survival. Both titles will be available on PlayStation 4, PC, and PlayStation Vita sometime next summer. |
Microsoft gives the all clear on Xbox Live network issues Posted: 26 Dec 2015 05:00 AM PST Multiple networks going down and being manipulated? It's a Christmas tradition at this point. In addition to the Steam issue yesterday Microsoft has been having problems for several days now, but thankfully, we've been given the all clear. Microsoft has announced that you now should be able to download items and purchase them as normal. For the past week or so I've been having problems with apps as well (including Blu-Ray player updates, which foiled me from watching the Alastair Sim Christmas Carol, also known as Scrooge, for a bit), but now it seems to be fine. 25 percent off Dragon's Dogma: Boxing Day PC pre-order deals from GMG Posted: 26 Dec 2015 04:00 AM PST Green Man Gaming is running a "Most Anticipated 2016" titles Boxing Day sale (its page makes no reference to Boxing Day but that's what it told us, anyways). The sale page doesn't seem to be public yet, but you can view the list of available 25 percent off titles here. Choice picks include January's release of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, plus February's Street Fighter V. I'm a fan of the XCOM series, so XCOM 2 looks juicy, but March is still three months away, so we'll probably sit on that (along with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided). Watch Lightning try to lifelessly sell a Louis Vuitton handbag Posted: 26 Dec 2015 03:17 AM PST Square Enix has partnered with French fashion house Louis Vuitton to sell...outfits and handbags, apparently. This new video was created by Visual Works, and shows Lightning in a variety of Vuitton merch. Lest you believe this is fake, multiple signs point to this being actually real. This is the best/worst Christmas gift of all. Lightning can never truly die. Nicolas Ghesquiere [Twitter] |
Deathsmiles is the next Cave game coming to PC Posted: 26 Dec 2015 03:00 AM PST Deathsmiles is gearing up for a Steam release next spring, publisher Degica has announced. One of just a few horizontally-scrolling shooters in Cave's library, Deathsmiles initially launched in Japanese arcades back in 2007 before later coming to Xbox 360 and mobile devices. Deathsmiles will be the second Cave title to find a new home on PC, following in the footsteps of Mushihimesama, which Cave and Degica just released on the platform last month.
