These new Splatoon maps look like good fun

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 03:00 PM PST

Splatoon isn't done giving out content, which is great, because many of us aren't done playing.

The next major update is going to be a pair of maps: Ancho-V Games and Piranha Pit. One is set in a swanky office with raisable platforms (like in the excellent single-player), while the other is a ramp-filled quarry surrounded by water. It's great to see those design elements migrate over.

Even if you're ambivalent, you should still watch this video. There's a dance routine!

Kojima chose Sony over 'a lot of offers from overseas companies'

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 01:33 PM PST

Kojima Productions' first game, when it releases presumed years from now, will be a PlayStation console exclusive thanks to the new studio's partnership with Sony. Studio head Hideo Kojima (have you read his name enough times in the last five minutes? Directed by Hideo Kojima) chose Sony over, "a lot of offers from overseas companies."

"I feel like this is an environment where I will be able to make something and feel comfortable," he said, "and I believe that’s the environment I need right now." It was a case of familiarity -- something that Kojima might want at least a smidge of after decades at the same company.

"It’s thanks to Sony that I was able to make a splash in the global market. It’s been 10-plus years since then and the working relationship at Sony, the people at Sony, we gel well…. I got several offers from many different companies, but with Sony it came to a point where I know these people, they know me, we know each other well." Kojima noted, "it would have been interesting to develop a relationship" with a non-Japanese company, but familiarity won out -- and more than brand allegiance.

"One way or another," Kojima said, "everything will end up being multiplatform." It's worth noting again that the partnership release stated specifically "console exclusivity."

Kojima is also not worried about a downward trending Japanese games industry. "I make games in Japan for a global market. As long as there’s a market out there in the world for making games, I’m not too focused on what’s happening in the domestic market in Japan."

What the hell's up with that wild new Kojima Productions logo?

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 01:32 PM PST

Hideo Kojima took former Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa with him to serve as the art director for Kojima Productions. The result? A Giger-looking logo much more in line with Shinkawa's style than the previous slick KojiPro fox. Kojima explains:

"I’ve always loved astronauts, and it is designed so it can be seen as a medieval knight or an astronaut’s helmet. The concept is, with new technology and a pioneer spirit, we want to bring you to a new realm -- within the digital world, I mean -- we want to travel together with you to a new realm to which no one has gone before.

"As for the skeleton, we’re homo sapiens -- people of wisdom -- but we’re also homo ludens -- people who play -- and the concept behind this logo is that: With new technology and a pioneer spirit, we’ll deliver play to a new world."

The Giger callback works in an even more roundabout way given that that explanation sounds like a roundabout way of describing the in-Alien-universe Prometheus. Kojima Productions will be selling the design on a shirt at some point.

Kojima Productions 'could consider movies, animations,' including del Toro collaboration

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 01:31 PM PST

Kojima Productions is not just a video game development company. The first project will be a game because that's what fans expect, but from there?

"The focus is on digital content, so we could consider movies, animations, anything," Kojima said. "But first I think people expect games from me. That’s where I want to put my focus. Once we have an established IP in games, something solid that satisfies people, then we can consider movies and videos."

He reiterated that he still wants to work with Guillermo del Toro, who was attached to Silent Hills before Konami put the kibosh on that. Del Toro has expressed that he may be done with games entirely.

Maybe more immediately, Kojima said, "One day I’d like to make something using [virtual reality], I’m not sure yet. But I do believe it has a future." Maybe there's a bit more distance there than expecting his first PS4 project to make use of PlayStation VR. "I’m not sure if it’ll be current format, the big goggles, maybe it’ll change to AR or something," he said. “But when this technology enters the living room, games and movies will change significantly for a lot of people. And I’d like to take part in that."

Kojima's 'edgy' new game and aims to be 'more recognizable, more beloved' than Metal Gear

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 01:30 PM PST

More from Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima with his newly minted studio after extricating himself from Konami and partnering with PlayStation on a console exclusive new project. It's far off, mind. They don't even have an engine in mind after the years of work put into The Phantom Pain's FOX Engine. "We could go either way," Kojima said, "whether it’s using an existing engine or making another engine. We’ll have to do some research before making a decision on that one."

But we do know Kojima brought Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkawa and producer Kenichiro Imaizumi with him to the new Kojima Productions. Shinkawa has lofty ambitions. "We’ve been working on a franchise that is beloved and has recognizable characters," he said. "One of my big goals is, visually, with whatever characters we create, to go beyond that, to be more recognizable, more beloved. That’s definitely one of the goals I have when it comes to the art side."

Kojima was a bit more reserved on the studio's first project. "I’m thinking smaller-scale, not too many people, and focusing on game creation at first," Kojima said. "I want to create something that’s what people expect, but at the same time will have something new that people haven’t seen before." He also noted, "it will be a complete game," if you were worrying over a Final Fantasy VII Remake style split.

The "agility" of a smaller scale operation might embolden Kojima to take even more chances. "We’ll have more agility. We’ll be able to do things that are more edgy, preserving the quality we’ve had so far, while at the same time finding new challenges and exploring new areas." Shinkawa is overseeing art direction company wide, including, "characters, concepts for the backgrounds, concepts for the mechs." Mechs! "I want to expand, on a personal level, the things I can do," he said.

"I’ve been in this industry for 30 years. I turned 52 this year. I’m getting to a new start, and I am very confident," Kojima said. "I’ll keep creating games until the day I die. Rest assured I’m making more games, something more fun, something you haven’t seen, and it would be great if I could count on the fans to support me in this."

I'm glad I got PaRappa the Rapper 2 on PS4

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 01:00 PM PST

PaRappa the Rapper 2 holds up so well!

As you might have seen, the PlayStation 2 rhythm game became available this week on PS4. It's a classic tale about a rapping dog with a lifetime supply of noodles who really just wants a good burger, dang it all. During his adventure, he'll learn romantic karate, join the military, and even try his hand at hairdressing. It's a reminder of how joyful and experimental the early PlayStation days were.

This was both my first time playing PaRappa 2 (I liked the original!) and my first time trying a PS2 game emulated on PS4. For the price ($7.49 with PS Plus; $9.99 without), I'm quite pleased. Trophies are a nice bonus, of course, but noticeably crisper visuals are even nicer.

Unsurprisingly, you can't turn off the black borders (not that I would, anyway). There's a high-res digital manual included, though, and you can use system-wide features like gameplay capturing, Shareplay with a PSN friend, and, if you're feeling bold, Remote Play.

Radio Shack lives, lets you fight Dota champions and win free gear

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 12:30 PM PST

After reading both Jon Bois' excellent adioS: The end of RadioShack, through the eyes of a store manager and A eulogy for RadioShack, the panicked and half-dead retail empire, you'll forgive me for forgetting that Radio Shack still shambles on. In fact, there are still three in San Francisco without a red, foreboding "PERMANENTLY CLOSED" mark on Google Maps.

Across the bay in welp-it's-a-city-alright Alameda, the South Shore Center Radio Shack is hosting the venerable Evil Geniuses professional gaming squad, giving attendees a chance to go mano a mano with pro Dota players and win a bunch of free, signed junk in the process (keyboard, mouse, etc).

So head on down to Radio Shack. In Alameda. December 19, from 2PM-4PM. You'll witness...something. What a time to be alive.

Wave 3 of Animal Crossing amiibo cards out next month

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 12:00 PM PST

Ah, the majestic amiibo. With Animal Crossing it has transcended a need for three dimensional form, reduce down to its utility: touch a thing against another thing. If that drinking game was enough to help you bear Animal Crossing amiibo Festival -- it's not even enough to help me bear the stylized lowercase "a" -- and you, for some reason, want more Animal Crossing cards?

Well, wave three of the cards are hitting Japan on January 14 of next year. It's got all your favorites like, well, uh, there's a special Isabelle in a kimono. I'm struggling to remember most of these villagers' names even though I recognize some of them like the evil red-eyed cow or that pink duck with the freckles or the nice white cat with a blue face. Anyways, Bob the Cat is the best.

If you're not into transcendence there's also a new wave of Animal Crossing amiibo figures.

Dark Souls players have found every item, says Miyazaki

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 11:30 AM PST

As much as fans have pored over Dark Souls and will continue to do so for years to come, it feels like the series' mysteries may never be fully solved -- that no matter how hard we collectively search, there will always be more to uncover, more to decipher. These worlds feel endless.

It's interesting, then, to hear game director Hidetaki Miyazaki say in an interview with Edge that "there aren't any undiscovered items, or specific bits of gameplay" remaining in Dark Souls.

He calls it "an incomplete game," saying, "I like to think that it has been completed by players, by their discoveries, as they moved along. I'd love to say that the nature of this incompleteness was completely deliberate, but it is both deliberate and by accident, in different ways."

Elaborating, Miyazaki said, "I try to make a game that has beautiful open spaces, gaps, room for players to enjoy it in ways that were not authored. I never want it to be where you have to follow the rules completely, where you have to do things exactly as the designers intended."

I'm now recalling that Dark Souls III is to be the last of its kind (at least for now). Bittersweet.

Splatoon celebrates 1 million sold in Japan with a concert

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 10:45 AM PST

Everyone's favorite podcast (credit Animal Crossing with that joke) Splatoon sold one million danged copies in Japan and Nintendo is celebrating the success of its original Wii U game with a newly announced Squid Sisters concert on January 30, 2016.

"Splatoon Squid Sisters Live 2016" will be held at the Makuhari Messe convention center, the same place where Tokyo Game Show lives.

Now, for a brief breakdown. Splatoon hit 1.6 million worldwide sales by the end of July, or in its first two months of availability. At that time, it had sold half a million in Japan and 1.1 million elsewhere. So in the 5 months since, Splatoon has moved another half a million in Japan.

It's also worth noting that the million sold figure includes all copies (retail, digital, pack-in). But the latest physical sales reports have Splatoon's lifetime Japanese sales at 912,335. This means less than 10% of Japanese Splatoon sales are digital.

Steam is dropping Mysterious trading cards again

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 10:30 AM PST

Earlier this year I got a jump on the Steam Summer Sale event by happening to craft a badge at the right time. As luck would have it, it happened again. No, I don't just always craft badges. Okay maybe I do.

I noticed this evening after crafting the first level of the Undertale badge that I got an emoticon (Flowey) and a background (Sans), but I didn't get anything else. That's not entirely true though. Steam didn't explicitly tell me I received anything else, but my inventory had the card above in it.

As in the past few years, these Mysterious trading cards have signaled the lead-in to the big Steam sales. By collecting the full set of Steam Sale trading cards, you can craft a unique badge. If you start crafting badges now to begin collecting these Mysterious cards, they should convert to the proper cards once the event officially begins.

Review: Assassin's Creed Syndicate: Jack the Ripper

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 10:00 AM PST

The tale of Jack the Ripper is one of mankind's great enigmas. More than 100 years ago, someone savagely murdered at least five women in the Whitechapel district of London. He maimed his victims so unthinkably that his legend lives on as more of a boogeyman than as an actual human. Jack's identity was never found out, lending further credibility to the theory that it'd take something supernatural to be capable of such brutality.

While Jack the Ripper is ripe for fictional works, it's a tough one to do justice. So much of the story is rooted in the uncertain and the inexplicable. Given that much freedom, it's easy to stray from the ideas that make Jack the Ripper fascinating in the first place.

Ubisoft's first major add-on to Assassin's Creed Syndicate both succeeds and fails in this sense. The developer really leans into the whole "brutal, ruthless murderer" thing, a wise choice that feels as if it captures the inhumane spirit of Jack the Ripper. However, many of the liberties taken with the character land insincere because of the insistence on forcing Jack's story into an already-existing framework -- that of the Assassin order.

Devil's Third's 'Chickens' mode is making me wish Nintendo didn't send the game to die

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 09:30 AM PST

I had a great discussion with some of my fellow action fans in the comments to my Devil's Third review, and came to the conclusion that even though the game itself is underwhelming, I'd still recommend it to the diehards. After all, it's a collector's item already in physical form, so there's definitely something there.

But really, the game's true star is the multiplayer element, and this week, it hosts a brand new "Chickens" mode that ushers in some delightfully unique fun into the generally homogenized shooter plane. In short, players will have to chase down chickens across the map to claim them as their own, and acquire points -- in turn, others can murder you and steal your chickens. It's just as awesome as it sounds.

Personally, I like to stay under the radar with just one or two of them (there's usually six or more around at all times), and pick a good spot to ambush my enemies. Since chickens show up globally on-screen players usually run in recklessly, which is when I usually spring my trap and steal their chickens. It's a constant tug of war, but it encourages action at every turn and is one of the better gametypes I've played this year.

I wish things turned out differently for Devil's Third. I wish it debuted on the PC or another console with more polish and a better framerate, I wish Nintendo of America didn't send it out to die, and I hope that it can find life as a cult classic despite its massive flaws.

Microsoft didn't push for Kinect development, Rare chose it

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 09:00 AM PST

The internet narrative has always been: Microsoft bought Rare (Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye) in 2002, then wrecked it, most recently by way of consigning the company to Kinect development.

But in a lengthy Eurogamer retrospective on the Kinect, a former Rare designer says it was Rare management that chose to go all in on the motion-tracking peripheral. Gavin Price, who left Rare to work as creative lead on Banjo-Kazooie successor Yooka-Laylee, explained, "Phil Spencer taking the mantle of Xbox is one of the best things that could have happened for Rare. Because he's always said to people at Rare [as general manager of Microsoft Studios], 'Do what you want to do and we'll back you,' and he's always stayed true to his word in that regard.

"It was people in Rare's management at the time who said: 'Well, Kinect is a great opportunity for the studio - go all in on it.' So when executives at Microsoft see that the management team are passionate about doing that, they back them. Microsoft to their credit did that, and perhaps the story online isn't quite reflective of the truth."

It's hard to think of another studio of that size and prestige that so seemingly spurned its fans, based on directive or not (and I'm ignoring decaying monoliths like Konami and thinking more like Golden Sun developer Camelot spending 10 years making golf games).

Just Cause 3 is getting 'significantly improved' loading times

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 08:30 AM PST

I'm playing Just Cause 3 far less than I thought I would, and that can be single-handedly attributed to the lengthy loading times. The initial one takes quite a while, but it isn't a huge pain considering it's up front -- you can plan accordingly. Everything else, though? My goodness.

It takes so long to retry challenges that I've been putting many of them off and, as a result, have missed out on crucial upgrades that would straight up make Just Cause more enjoyable to play. It's disappointing.

But the game is still fairly new and it will get better with age. Posting on reddit, a representative of Avalanche Studios announced that patch 1.02 is scheduled to hit all platforms this week. Depending on where you live, it might even be live already! The patch sounds promising:

  • Significantly improved loading times
  • Optimizations to online stats
  • General stability fixes
  • Fixed an issue related to challenges, wherein vehicles sometimes disappeared when starting a challenge
  • Fixed issues related to screen resizing and closing the game window before the game has fully started up [PC Only]

And, even better, it's only 132MB.

"To those of you still having issues, rest assured we are working hard to alleviate these, and are listening very closely to everything that's being said," said the rep.

Original Homeworld devs back with prequel tale Deserts of Kharak

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 08:00 AM PST

Following up on its early 2015 Homeworld Remastered Collection, Gearbox is publishing developer Blackbird Interactive's new Homeworld tale, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.

The "prequel from some of the original creators of Homeworld and Homeworld 2" is coming to PC on January 20, 2016.

"After more than a decade-long hiatus for Homeworld, it is an immense honor in the last year to launch two new entries in the Homeworld franchise: an incredible, critically acclaimed remastering of the original Homeworld games and now the all-new, ground-based, real-time-strategy game called Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak," Gearbox's Randy Pitchford said.

In a welcomed move, Steam pre-orders for Deserts of Kharak will net you a free copy of Homeworld Remastered Collection. If you already own the latter, you get 20% off Deserts of Kharak pre-orders,

Moving Hazard is your tropical brown alternative to the new Resident Evil

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 07:30 AM PST

The next Resident Evil game is a quick, almost Counter-Strike-esque competitive third-person shooter where zombies act as mere environmental hazards as you work to kill other gas-mask-faced men.

Moving Hazard, shown in alpha above, is a similar deal, but with a Dying Light/Dead Island hue to Umbrella Corps' grey grit and a first-person perspective.

"If you take the best parts of a military shooter like Counter Strike or SOCOM, and add tons of flesh-hungry undead that you can control, you begin to get a basic idea of what Moving Hazard will be like," publisher IllFonic president Charles Brungardt said. "There’s much more to it than that, but at some point, players will have to make a critical decision about which is the primary threat – the human enemy shooting at them or the grenade just thrown behind them, bringing with it an unstoppable wall of rotting corpses."

It's coming to PC early 2016.

Someone won a real life set of Destiny Titan armor

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 07:00 AM PST

Sony sponsored a contest for Destiny fans, recruiting prop shop AWE me (in this case, the Super Gamer Builds arm) to build a real-life set of Destiny armor for one fan. The winner chose the Titan armor and got a limited edition Destiny PS4, which he announced would go to his brother in a somewhat stilted reveal that played with the unintentionally funny gravitas of all those intense Food Network competitions.

I hope it fits! They only show him put that hat on.

Huge Halo 5 update adds Forge mode, maps, and weapons

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 06:30 AM PST

Forge mode wasn't ready in time for Halo 5: Guardians' launch, but it's here now. The map creation sandbox debuts with some 1,700 objects and will continue to change as 343 Industries takes in feedback from players. Knowing how ridiculously good people have gotten with these tools in prior games, I bet we'll see a bunch of impressive stuff out of the holiday break.

Today's "Cartographer's Gift" update also adds SPNKr rocket launchers, several maps (one for Warzone, one for Overgrowth, and two for Big Team Battle), and more in-depth control options. Well, that, and a ton of other smaller but still important things. Plus fixes for existing content.

You can read the full notes below or head to the blog post for pictures and a fancy layout.

Banner Saga Vita on hold over porting studio's closure

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 06:00 AM PST

The Banner Saga is coming to PS4 and Xbox One after all. While both the follow up, The Banner Saga 2, and the console ports of the first game have missed their 2015 release windows, the port is slated to come to PS4 and Xbox One on January 12, 2016.

But what about the Vita port? Stoic's John Watson explained what happened in a big blog post. The short of it: Stoic hired a team to do the port, but that company ended up going out of business in May of this year with Stoic losing all the money put into it. Stoic found a new company in August to finish off the ports, but the focus, understandably, went to the newer console versions, rather than the flagging Vita, though Watson would like the game on Vita.

"The realities, however, of a very small team and a limited budget, put an immutable check on the speed of our progress. Stoic is composed of only 4 full time internal team members, all of which are currently working 100% on Banner Saga 2. Our initial budget for porting to Vita has been burned by essentially having to pay twice for the console ports. Once we can recover the substantial costs of initial console porting, we can consider our strategy to move forward with Vita."

However, now that this port has been completed by the new porting studio, porting the eventual Banner Saga 2 over from PC should be much easier. Silver linings.

The Long Dark shows off its story ahead of early 2016 launch

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 05:00 AM PST

I've been interested in The Long Dark, and artsy flourish in the open world survival simulator mold, since it launched on Kickstarter two years ago. It has since been released on Early Access, and even got a major update early this year, but one thing kept out of view has been the game's narrative (they've even got the voices of MaleShepard and Deus Ex's Adam Jensen).

The above trailer delves into the story and its two playable protagonists; story mode will be available in The Long Dark's early 2016 launch. The plan is as follows:

At launch, The Long Dark® will include both the first part of Season One of Story Mode, and the Sandbox Mode. The Story Mode content launching in the Spring will amount to 3-4 hours of gameplay, in addition to the freeform Sandbox mode which offers 100s of hours of open-world exploration-survival gameplay.

The remainder of Season One will be released in additional 2-3 hour episodes over the course of 2016, until the Season One story arc is complete. The expected play time for the entire Season One Story Mode is between 10-12 hours.

Napster is coming to Wii U

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 04:30 AM PST

Holy '90s, Batman.

Nintendo has announced that Napster, the now-legitimate streaming music service, will be coming to the Wii U eShop as a free app on December 17. A 30-day free trial is available, but after that, you'll have to fork over a subscription fee. A promotion is going on now that nets you three months for $1, and after that, it's $9.99 a month.

For those who aren't in the know, after its shutdown in 2001, Napster has been necroed by a few companies, most recently Best Buy. A few years back the company merged with Rhapsody, but they're keeping the brand around for whatever reason.

GOTY 2015: Best logo

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 04:00 AM PST

As media, we have no business caring about the marketing of video games. In fact, we actually have a professional obligation to parse through it, finding the good information and discarding the bullshit. That's, like, half the job, really. Those in PR and marketing try hard to tint our views and we try hard to see a game for what it really is. It's a tug-of-war that gets easier the longer you do this.

For example, that's why, for as many times as Ubisoft sends out a press release that reads "Watch_Dogs," we print "Watch Dogs." Or, we should anyway. It seems innocuous, but that underscore is more than just a dated holdover from 2002 when AOL Instant Messenger names took the form of "sxxxy_thng_69_2000." It represents Ubisoft's branding attempts, and you know that because it contributes absolutely nothing else to the name. That underscore isn't adding extra sounds like the title is suddenly Watch unnnn Dogs.

The thing is, it doesn't matter to us if Ubisoft's branding is on-point. It's not our job to make sure you know that the underscore is totally there indicating that it's a totally hip and with-it game. It's the same way that if we wrote about sports, it wouldn't be our obligation to call the San Francisco Giants' stadium AT&T Park. We could call it any number of names, but unless AT&T's footing our cell phone bills every month, it's not our place to strengthen its brand.

Revel in the mystery that's cast by Dying Light: The Following's eerie teaser

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 03:43 AM PST

Dying Light shelves the parkour and the zombie bashing in the story teaser trailer for its next add-on, The Following. Instead, it wonders aloud exactly how the survivors might go about escaping this hellhole and if a cure even exists for this damn plague. Also, there's a pretty good quote about rage and love.

The mystery will have to remain unsolved for almost two more months. Dying Light: The Following doesn't release until February 9. That gives you plenty of time to hone your zombie apocalypse survival plan.

Famicom R.O.B., Ryu, and Roy amiibo coming in March

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 03:30 AM PST

While a lot of fun news came out of the Smash-centric Nintendo Direct yesterday, the amiibo bits kind of slipped under the radar a bit. The publisher has confirmed that the Famicom R.O.B. (previously not available in the west), Ryu, and Roy amiibo will be available on March 18, 2016 in the US.

And while it's been previously confirmed that all Smash characters will be getting amiibo, Nintendo just wanted to make it clear that Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta will all be getting their own figures as well. The next wave of amiibo is set for January, and includes Lucas, Mr. Resetti, Blathers, Kicks, Celeste, and Shovel Knight (the latter of which launched this month in Europe).

Gold Mega Man will drop in February, the aforementioned three in the title launch in March with the Wolf Link & Midna figure, and Timmy & Tom Nook (Target exclusive, one figure), Rover, and Kap'n still have unconfirmed dates. Here's a full list of every confirmed amiibo.

Star Wars Lightsaber Escape is a cool piece of tech that links your phone and a browser

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 03:00 AM PST

Google has launched a cool little browser game that links up your smart phone as a controller, and pits you against a series of Stormtroopers as a Jedi. Basically, all you have to do is download or load up Chrome on your smartphone, go to this URL with your PC and mobile browser, and follow the instructions within.

It's a first-person on-rails adventure basically, in the same vein as Star Wars: Rebel Assault (one of my favorites), or the many other Star Wars rail shooters. You can take a look at what the screen looks like on your phone below. I'll be seeing the film on Sunday, so I think I'll be going into full lockdown after Friday, haha.

Mega Man X8 is coming to the PSN soon in Japan

Posted: 16 Dec 2015 02:30 AM PST

If you were gunning for Mega Man X8 on the PSN, you might be in luck. Capcom has confirmed that the game will arrive on the PS3 this week in the form of a PS2 Classic.

If you recall, Capcom is seemingly probing public opinion to see what PS2 game will come to the PS4 first, so this apparently isn't a part of that initiative. X8 is better than its predecessor, but I'm not exactly chomping at the bit to play it -- so take your time, Capcom, and work on an original Mega Man game instead.

Or an X anthology similar to the Legacy Collection, whatever works!

Monster Hunter makes its way into Super Mario Maker

Bring on the event stages and costume rewards, I say!

After plowing through all of the new events this week, I'm ready for more. Thankfully, Nintendo and Capcom are willing to oblige, with a Monster Hunter themed 8-bit felyne costume. All you have to do is beat Ma Rio Hills, and you're good.

I can clearly see why Nintendo opted to only have the costumes available in the old school theme, but I really wish they were playable in other styles too -- heck, even if they maintained the old 8-bit look I'd be happy.
