Delayed last-gen Tony Hawk 5 drops this week Posted: 13 Dec 2015 11:30 AM PST Following the launch of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Activision delayed the title's launch on last generation platforms. This was done to allow developer Robomodo to fix many of the bugs plaguing players before unleashing another broken mess into the world. Now that a number of those issues have been remedied, it seems the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are releasing this week, according to the PlayStation Blog and Amazon's product page. It's difficult to imagine anyone would still want the inferior version of such a substandard game, but I'm sure Activision will still make plenty of money selling it to folks who don't know any better.

Five Nights at Freddy's Creator Teases Novelization Posted: 13 Dec 2015 08:00 AM PST Scott Cawthon, creator of the cult breakout Five Nights at Freddy's, has continued his long standing tradition of announcing Fazbear related news in the most convenient way possible. Secret coded messages. On December 11th, some fans noticed that the image on his website, Scottgames.com, had changed from a teaser relating to the previously announced FNAF World, to an image of Freddy Fazbear himself, overlaid with text reading “Five Nights at Freddy's The Untold Story. Coming soon.” When the image is opened in a new tab, it becomes obvious that the file name is 'FNAF_TheNovel.jpg'. More information, still, can be found by right clicking and selecting the option to view the source code for the website. Within a metadata tag is the hidden phrase, “Coming soon to Amazon Kindle, very soon." This might be the last piece of the mangled puzzle that is the FNAF franchise, or it could introduce even more information to leave fans and theorists alike tearing out their hair in frustration. Personally, I'm waiting for the cartoon series! Read more... |
Xbox One & PS4 returns to Black Friday prices for Christmas Posted: 13 Dec 2015 07:00 AM PST If you don't hear the bell chiming and the smell of Christmas, then maybe you're not sniffing hard hard enough. Hmm wait... that didn't came out right. Gamers and shoppers still looking for a console in-time for Christmas are in luck this week as Sony's $299 PS4 price-drop continues on their Battlefront and Uncharted bundle. Grab from Newegg's eBay page to avoid sales tax in a handful of states. Microsoft is having a me-too moment with a return of the $50 off Xbox One discount (they probably didn't anticipate Sony offering these deals AFTER Black Friday). While by far not as good as their Black Friday promotion, the Microsoft Store deals are essentially the only good Xbox One bundle deals for Christmas. You now get to pick a free game out of 3 selection: AC Unity, Watch Dogs, or The Crew. Finally lots of neat little sales going on such as a 20th Anniversary Edition of the PS4 DualShock 4 controller for only $45 at Best Buy; or a rare $20 deal on a 16GB PS Vita memory card; and then there's also the Best Buy 3DS Buy 1, Get 1 40% off sale. Basically the week before Christmas you'll see lots of last-ditch rare console deals from retailers. Read more... |

The Force Awakens co-star was fired from Dante's Inferno Posted: 13 Dec 2015 05:00 AM PST Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens opens in theaters in less than a week, and my favorite thing about the movie so far is that two of its leading men once sang a song with Justin Timberlake about not wanting to go to outer space. At the tender age of 36, Oscar Isaac has already had the kind of career that most actors can only dream of, but it wasn't always wine and roses for the Guatemalan beefcake. Long before he starred in critically acclaimed films or blockbuster action movies, Isaac was set to perform in EA's Dante's Inferno, though he was later "fired off it" for reasons unknown. What we do know is that Isaac thinks it was a "shitty game", which puts him in direct opposition to former Dtoid EiC and current Epic Games heartthrob Nick Chester, who once described it as "... a hell of an entertaining package." As fan of both Isaac's and Chester's work, I resent being forced to take sides here. Isaac isn't opposed to any and all video game acting though. He performed original lines for his The Force Awakens character Poe Dameron for Disney Infinity, where he depicts "...a more childlike version of the character". Maybe he just doesn't like giant nipples that give birth to death babies? Either way, I'd love to see him take another crack at a Hell-diving adventure someday, maybe in Drag Me To Hell 2: Drag Harder? Code of Princess studio closes its doors Posted: 13 Dec 2015 04:00 AM PST Code of Princess developer Agatsuma Entertainment announced its closure this week. Citing financial difficulties, the studio dissolved Friday with plans to fully liquidate by March 31, 2016. Established in Tokyo in 1997, Agatsuma, in addition to developing and publishing games, acted as an agency for other studios, providing business and marketing services worldwide. In recent years, Agatsuma became best-known for publishing titles in the Umihara Kawase series, releasing Sayonara Umihara Kawase on Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita in 2013 and 2014, respectively. A Windows PC version of the game then released this October, followed by a Steam version of the 1997 PlayStation title Umihara Kawase Shun (and trilogy pack) in late November. 子会社の解散および清算に関するお知らせ [Agatsuma Entertainment]

Is Itagaki's career in AAA development over? Posted: 13 Dec 2015 03:00 AM PST Tomonobu Itagaki got his start at Tecmo back in 1992 working as a graphics programmer on Tecmo Super Bowl for the SNES. It was a fitting start for a man whose career would be largely defined by creating games that fuse Japanese-born passions with Western-style machismo for a global audience. His latest game, Devil's Third, is probably the greatest example of that combination to date. It starts with a hugely muscular shirtless Caucasian man, covered in Sanskrit tattoos, performing a virtuoso rock drum solo in the basement of Guantanamo Bay. It's a scene that would be right at home on WWE Smackdown or one of Canon's schlock-classic American Ninja films. Ten years ago, the video games industry was littered this kind of fun. These days, not so much. I went to one Best Buy and three GameStop locations before I found a retail copy of Devil's Third for sale. Best Buy had none in stock for the entire district, and only three GameStop stores in the state had copies of Devil's Third available for customers who hand't placed a pre-order. GameStop also let me know that, as far as they could tell, their online store only had 420 copies of the game available for sale for the entire country. Unless demand picks up and Nintendo of America issues a reprint, Devil's Third may end up being one of the more rare games the publisher has ever released. Read more... |
Prepare your teeth for radioactive decay, Nuka Cola Quantum is back Posted: 13 Dec 2015 01:00 AM PST If you missed them before, you might be happy to hear that Target (you know, the line of retailers that recently abandoned Canada) will be restocking their supply of everyone's favorite Fallout 4 promotional tie-in, Nuka Cola Quantum, next week. It’s basically a relabeled Jones soda, but hey, it is a cool label. Next week: Quantum returns to @Target! Purchase for $2.99 or get free w/ Fallout 4 or Xbox Season Pass purchase. pic.twitter.com/Nmjr1UdsMT If you want to stock up for your personal bomb shelter, I suggest you hurry, the cola is bound to disappear just as fast as it did before. Not that I’d know, since Target all but disappeared itself in my country. Enjoy your damn sugar water (anyone want to save me one?)
