It sounds like Life is Strange 2 is happening (Update)

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 10:30 AM PST

[Update: Alchimy has significantly altered the text of the interview, changing it from "I worked as a script doctor on Life is Strange developed by the studio Dontnod and I will participate on Life is Strange 2 later" to "I contributed modestly as script doctor on Life is Strange developed by studio Dontnod. If there were to be a sequel, I would be happy to contribute, of course."

This follows a similar incident where a representative for Square Enix informed Destructoid the second episode was delayed, only for Dontnod to label "rumors" of a delay "false." Despite initially telling us each episode would arrive precisely six weeks apart and insisting news of the delay was not true, in the end, Dontnod did not end up delivering the second installment on schedule.]

A sequel to Life is Strange is in the cards, according to Dontnod co-founder Alain Damasio.

Speaking in a French interview with Alchimy, Damasio, when asked about the games he's worked on other than Remember Me, mentioned plans to "participate on Life is Strange 2 later."

I won't spoil the ending to the original game (because I haven't finished it yet), but a second season would likely feature a new cast, according to co-director Michael Koch. In an interview with Polygon, Koch likened Life is Strange to TV series like True Detective, saying "we can really go with other characters, other locations, but still keep the identity of the game, the themes of the game."

Let's discuss Devil May Cry 4

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 10:00 AM PST

[What happens when you play Devil May Cry 4 in close proximity to watching WWE? You begin drawing allusions from one of the world's greatest demon hunters, John Cena! When it comes to Nero and Dante, it's all about hustle, loyalty, and respect! *cue My Time is Now* ~Strider]

I used to watch wrestling a lot more than I do nowadays. Smackdown aired on basic cable, so I could flip it on and watch some body slams and muscular men getting uncomfortably close together (as if they wanted to kiss each other); I remember there was one fight between Rey Mysterio and Batista that was more or less amazing. But when it hopped channels, I didn't have the will to chase after it -- and I never really watched Raw in the first place, so I was out. And the last wrestling game I played was Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 (I think), which was pretty fun IMO, but my brother decided to trade it in just cause. Either that, or he hated spending most matches unconscious and flat on his face.

Two women who told very different autobiographical stories through video games

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 08:00 AM PST

Former Sup Holmes guest Zoe Quinn recently announced that she's writing an autobiography that's already been optioned for a film adaptation. As neat as that is, it seems like a missed opportunity. It would make more sense for the book to be made into an autobiographical game than a movie. Coincidentally, two more recent Sup Holmes guests did just that. Though their games aren't literal auto-biographies, they are clearly charged with metaphors and mechanics that work to express many of their personal life experiences.

Natalia Figueroa's Fran Bow is a point-and-click horror fairy tale that draws upon trauma events that she suffered as a teenager. She first devised the game's story during those teen years, but it wasn't until she made it to her twenties that she was able to fully master her story through game design, and in doing so, mastering the painful experiences that inspired it. We talked to Natalia about that, about how mixing cuteness with horror helped her to tolerate the darker parts of the development process, how her background in animation and her relationship with her husband inspired her to make games, and a lot more.

Jane Friedhoff's Slam City Oracles couldn't be more different than Fran Bow on the surface, though both games share a underlying look at the power that comes from letting loose. More than anything, Slam City is about being unafraid to take up space and release pent up aggression, two things Jane has been challenged with in both her career and her personal life. We talked about that, her lifelong love of game development, the pros and cons of the increasingly personality driven game scene, and tons of other stuff.

Thanks again to Jane and Natalia for being on the show, and be sure to tune in next week when we welcome Mark from Rogue Snail Games (Chroma Squad) to the program.

Here's how Shovel Knight and Nipples Juan look in Indivisible

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 06:00 AM PST

Skullgirls developer Lab Zero recently announced that its currently-in-crowd funding 2D RPG Indivisible will feature a bevy cameos from various guest characters, including faces from Super Time Force Ultra, Battle Chasers, Skullgirls, Hyper Light Drifter, Curses N' Chaos, Shovel Knight, and Guacamelee. We'll likely have to wait a little longer to see the majority of those cameos, though we have been granted a peek at Shovel Knight and Juan (Guacamelee) in a recent series of Indiegogo updates.

Keen-eyed viewers have noted Juan's original Indivisible art displayed the man sans nipples, though a recent update recently added areolas to the luchador's luscious physique. This added level of sexual realism stands in stark contrast to Capcom's recent decision to subtract some back end from the upcoming release of Street Fighter V

If you are one of gaming's Sexual Justice Warriors fighting for more detailed depictions of butt, nipple, and crotch in your media, you'd do well to harness your anger towards Capcom's harsh ass-axing decisions into support for Indivisible. With a week left to go, Indivisible has not yet been funded on Indiegogo, so you'll only have yourself to blame if those fan-pleasing nips are left on the drawing board.

Today on Sup Holmes we're happy to welcome 13AM Games' Alex Rushdy to the program. Join us at 2:30pm right here for the whole butt-slapping extravaganza!

R. Mika butt-slap close up removed from Street Fighter V

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 04:00 AM PST

It wasn't long ago that Capcom claimed Chun-Li's absurd level of boob movement in Street Fighter V was a "glitch" and it was working on a fix before the game was released. I wonder if it will also claim that R. Mika's original super-ending ass slap was also a glitch?

Either way, it looks like that particular butt shot is gone for now, though I wouldn't be surprised to see it return as optional DLC at some point. Capcom has also made changes to a few of the game's other crotch close ups. Check out the full thread on NeoGAF for more details

Like with the recent removal of some of the more revealing outfits in Nintendo published titles like Xenoblade Chronicles X and Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, a vocal minority on the Internet is already crying censorship over this development. Personally, I see the situation as being less like a mass book burning and more like other run-of-the-mill game publisher-driven aesthetic changes. No one seemed to think it was censorship when Capcom voluntarily changed Cammy's look in order to make her more visually appealing.

This issue with R. Mika's bum is no different, except this time, an extreme blast of color and ass is being moved to make the game less of a turn off to those who aren't interested in that sort of thing.

This Fallout 4 and Disney Princess mashup works fairly well

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 02:00 AM PST

While mashups are a pretty common art form, only a select few catch my attention on a regular basis. On the eve of Fallout 4 reviews all across the globe (ours will be up at 8AM Eastern tomorrow), a reader showed me this Disney and Fallout mashup, and it works pretty well, all things considered.

The main thing I dig is the theming of each frame, like Snow White chatting it up with woodland wasteland critters, Ariel conquering a sea creature, and the obvious "Belle with Beast" scene. In case you're wondering, the princess with the severed head is Jasmine.

Mewtwo amiibo up for pre-order now at Best Buy

Posted: 08 Nov 2015 12:56 AM PST

If you're still into collecting amiibo, Mewtwo is up now at Best Buy's site for the standard price of $12.99 in the US. Although the amiibo shortage seems to have mostly let up, there are still a number of figures that sell out quickly, one of them being Mewtwo.

The figure is set to arrive on November 13. It seems like there is a shipping error issue happening with ordering this particular amiibo, as users are reporting that they aren't getting free holiday shipping or free shipping based on their Gamers Club membership, so that's something to be aware of.

If you can't snag a pre-order on your PC, remember to try on mobile, both in your browser and with the Best Buy app. As a reminder, the Mewtwo amiibo is not exclusive, so this isn't your only shot.

Buy a PlayStation 4, get free Fallout 4 at Best Buy

Posted: 07 Nov 2015 08:10 PM PST

No Fallout 4 bundle for PlayStation 4? No problem, says Best Buy. If you're awake at this ungodly hour (because you're waiting for this week's episode of One Punch Man) - then you've won the just-in-time lottery.

Best Buy is going all-out with this Sunday's deal by offering a free copy of Fallout 4 with the purchase of any PS4 bundles (that they have in stock anyways, and that's only 3 bundles).

Just freaking CLICK HERE and you'll see the deals available (plus terms and all that).

Here are the three bundles available:

  • $349 - PlayStation 4 500GB Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Bundle
  • $399.99 - PlayStation Destiny: The Taken King Bundle (White)
  • $429.99 - PlayStation 1TB COD: Black Ops III Limited Ed. Bundle

Add any of these to your cart (while they're in stock online) will get you a free copy of Fallout 4 and "Power A charging station for PS4" (this one is valued at about $15). Sure the charging station isn't much to look at, but who can argue against a free copy of Fallout 4?
