| Story of Seasons will now launch next month in Europe Posted: 27 Nov 2015 12:00 PM PST Story of Seasons launched earlier this year in the US (last year in Japan), but Europe still hasn't seen a release from Marvelous AQL's latest farming simulator. Fortunately, Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that it will be bumped up just a tad, and instead of being dropped on January 8, 2016, it's now being released on December 31 of this year. It's a small little shift, but it's better than a delay at least. Nintendo of Europe [Twitter] |

| Here's every Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir character trailer Posted: 27 Nov 2015 11:00 AM PST The Odin Sphere remake is coming as early as January in Japan (later in the year elsewhere), and Atlus is sufficiently pumping us up with character trailers for all of the old cast members. All of the usual suspects -- Velvet, Oswald, Mercedes, Cornelius, Gwendolyn -- with new and old footage to boot. My wife always loved Mercedes, but I've tended to prefer Oswald, who has some really cool animations and abilities at his disposal. I had a chance to play him at TGS recently with the new PS4 build, and he was just as fun as I remembered. |
| JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven could give me that 3D brawler fix Posted: 27 Nov 2015 10:00 AM PST CyberConnect2's newest JoJo's Bizarre game, Eyes of Heaven, is coming along nicely. It's set to debut on the PS3 and PS4 in Japan on December 17, and this clip should give you a general overview of what the game is trying to accomplish. There are a few great 3D brawlers out there (Anarchy Reigns was so under-appreciated), I'm going to use this opportunity to rant in favor of The Bouncer. Developed by Squaresoft and DreamFactory shortly after the PS2's launch, it was panned at the time, but here's the rub -- it was actually awesome. There were a decent amount of modes, every fighter felt different, and I loved the absurd character designs. Mikado, the playable big bad was my main, and I managed to rope in a few friends of mine for at least six months to come over and play it, which had four-player simultaneous battles by way of the multitap. There aren't nearly enough 3D brawlers out in the world these days on modern consoles, but there are a lot of good legacy ones if you know where to look. I hope this one measures up. |
| This War of Mine is getting a board game Posted: 27 Nov 2015 09:00 AM PST This War of Mine can be a pretty heavy game, but 11 bit studios has a lighter sight in mind -- a board game adaptation. It will sport a companion app, and the creator notes that it will support up to six players with easy to follow rules. They want to drive this last bit home so far that they are claiming that it will "omit the usual boardgame threshold," as an "instant-play game, with no need to read the manual before starting the adventure." Uh, well that is pretty ambitious -- if we end up getting a copy, we'll share our thoughts. The Boardgame [11 bit studios] |
| This GTA V machinima channels The Force, lightsabers Posted: 27 Nov 2015 08:00 AM PST I can't believe that Grand Theft Auto V machinima is still a thing, over two years later, but that's what a robust PC release and editing tools with do. It helps that most of the videos I've seen are actually good, like this flipping truck and even a wildlife documentary. This one is a pretty standard lightsaber duel, but with a GTA twist. The middle-finger lightning is such a Trevor thing, haha. |
| PSA: Ike and other rare amiibo are back at GameStop Posted: 27 Nov 2015 07:30 AM PST GameStop has made good on its advertised Black Friday amiibo restock. Not only are stores packed with the promised Ike amiibo, but you can also find the other restocked figures through its website. As of writing, the reissued Greninja, Little Mac, Captain Falcon, Fox, Lucario, and Ike are available for purchase, along with the brand-new Mewtwo. Shulk is not listed as 'in stock,' and Ike is supposedly an 'online only' product, but I was able to add the latter to my cart from the search page. Plus, all of these figures -- including Shulk -- were plentiful in my local store. Give your local GameStop a call and test the waters. Also, if you're hooked on amiibo but missed Wave 6, GameStop has some of those figures as well. Bowser Jr. and Dr. Mario are only available elsewhere, and you might have to cross your fingers and hope a local store is carrying the Retro 3-Pack, but Ganondorf, Zero Suit Samus, and Olimar can be purchased direct from GameStop. This is normally the part of the amiibo-related news story where we impart wishes of luck, but I think we're almost past that. Some day soon, you may even be able to buy a Wii Fit Trainer for retail price! Nintendo Amiibo Figures [GameStop] |
| Super Mario Maker adds the frog suit, NES Remix course Posted: 27 Nov 2015 07:00 AM PST Nintendo has provided a new course for Super Mario Maker, based on the NES Remix series. After completion, it will net you the frog suit from Mario 3, which wasn't in the game previously -- it's important to note however this is an 8-bit costume and not a true power-up. I'm glad Nintendo has taken the criticisms to heart though and has started to add in new content like this and checkpoints over time. As you can tell from the video, the level is extremely easy. So if you have nothing to do this weekend, go ahead and grab the frog suit. |
| BlazBlue and Guilty Gear are currently seeing huge sales on PSN Posted: 27 Nov 2015 06:00 AM PST While a bunch of fighting games are seeing discounts on Steam, Arc System Works has provided a few sales of its own for the BlazBlue and Guilty Gear series on the PSN. Each version of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND is now $12 (PS3, Vita), and Guilty Gear Xrd Sign and Extend are now $15 on PS4. EXTEND is normally $40 on both Vita and PS3, and the PS4 version if EXTEND as well as Sign are typically $50, so this is a pretty deep discount. Keep in mind though that BlazBlue: Central Fiction exists, as well as Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator -- so you may want to just wait for the updated versions instead. BlazBlue, Guilty Gear [iPlayWinner] |
| It's ACTUALLY Black Friday now, here are all of Amazon's gaming deals Posted: 27 Nov 2015 05:34 AM PST Like I wrote about yesterday, The Black Friday Creep is a real problem. I'm pretty sure that actual Black Friday is just a formality at this point; everyone already got their cheap TVs a week ago. By the time it rolls around, we're just like "Suckers! Run to Michael's and save on your crochet supplies, Grandma. I've already bought $6,000 worth of electronics at Best Buy's Pre-Pre-Early Bird Door Bustin' Black Friday event. I PROVIDE FOR MY FAMILY WITH 8K RESOLUTION." If I were President Obama (and I might be), I'd spend my last month in office trying to get November renamed "Black Friday." It basically takes up the whole month anyway. Who's going to fight me on that? The people who waged war on a red Starbucks cup? I'd distract them by offering a $25 stimulus package to anyone who took a selfie with the cup. I guess the point is, I'd try to do a lot of fun stuff if I were Lame Duck Obama. I'd trade Nebraska to Canada for Nova Scotia. I'd cancel a week of NFL games. I'd declare it unconstitutional to run a Black Friday sale before Black Friday. I'm Obama and I like when articles come full circle. Here's what Amazon's doing for the real Black Friday. It's some of the same stuff from yesterday, but with new deals sprinkled in. |
| This champion recreated the One-Punch Man anime in Fallout 4 Posted: 27 Nov 2015 05:30 AM PST Similar to Kill la Kill and other animes throughout the years, One-Punch Man has been making the rounds on the Internet in the past few months due to its absurd premise and high-octane fight scenes. In essence, the main character is an overpowered hero who can defeat anyone with one punch, and in a bout of boredom, travels the world to find true opponents. The Ghost over on YouTube has captured the spirit of the character in this video above by way of Fallout 4. I've only seen bits of the show, but I've really been meaning to get around to it lately. |
| Disaster Report 4 Plus is looking real nice on PS4 Posted: 27 Nov 2015 05:00 AM PST Disaster Report 4 Plus: Summer Memories received its debut trailer and some shiny new screenshots today. Developer Irem previously announced Disaster Report 4 for PS3 back in 2010, but it was delayed and then canceled shortly after the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami hit Japan in 2011. The canceled title is now being rebooted for a PS4 release under a new developer, Granzella. The debut trailer is very similar to the original PS3 trailer from 2010, only it now features the female protagonist. It's looking much nicer though, with noticeably smoother character animations and gorgeous visuals. The story will follow the protagonist (male or female) who is visiting the city in search of a job when an earthquake hits. Though they are not familiar with the city, they must cooperate with other survivors, endure quarrels, and collect information in order to escape to safety. No word yet on a release date. |
| Azure Striker Gunvolt PC gets 50% off sale, new 'Christmas Mode' Posted: 27 Nov 2015 04:30 AM PST From now until December 1, Azure Striker Gunvolt is 50% off on Steam, which is a sale you may want to partake in, as the PC version is being updated to incorporate a new "Christmas Mode." In essence, nearly the entire game has been transformed to accommodate new snowy weather conditions, slippery floors, and present collectibles to find. There's even a leaderboard for present collection. I reached out to Inti Creates to see if this update would ever hit the 3DS, and unfortunately, it looks like it's going to remain PC exclusive. | The Ghostbusters board game is like a mini Arkham Horror Posted: 27 Nov 2015 04:00 AM PST Every so often we cover board games here at Destructoid, mostly from our tabletop expert Darren Nakamura. But when the opportunity presented itself to check out the brand new Ghostbusters game, I sprang at the chance. Hailed as one of the biggest board game Kickstarters of all time, Ghostbusters raked in over $1.5 million in funding with just a $250,000 goal. I'm not sure it can live up to that kind of hype, but my time with it has been pretty enjoyable so far. |
| The Rainbow Six Siege beta is back online, following a delay Posted: 27 Nov 2015 03:30 AM PST In an odd twist of events, the Rainbow Six Siege beta was delayed last-minute, just six days before the game was set to launch on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Apparently sessions were not starting properly, and that it would be available "later that day." Well, that was Wednesday, and it didn't end up getting fixed until later in the afternoon yesterday. So if you missed out on the beta due to a Thanksgiving get-together, you can enjoy it until December 1. Just know that nothing will carry over. Ubisoft seems to be taking a rather cavalier approach to this game, with a year's worth of DLC that mixes in paid and free content, and this down to the wire beta. Expect our review sometime next week. Open Beta is Live [Ubisoft Forums] |
| What is your favorite Bethesda era Fallout game? Posted: 27 Nov 2015 03:00 AM PST Barring the amazing original PC series, I want to know what people think of the newer takes on the Fallout franchise. I've seen so many conversations regarding Bethesda's reign, and although there's lots of love for Fallout 4, a lot of people prefer the Capital Wasteland of 3, and others, such as myself, still think New Vegas is king. Personally, I think Obsidian (who handled Vegas) just does better RPGs, plan and simple. The writing in New Vegas was a cut above Bethesda's work, and the sidequests and characters were so much better for it. Sure it didn't iterate a whole lot gameplay-wise on 3, but the world and lore felt as alive as ever. It was like playing Interplay's old series all over again. Now that we've had time to simmer and reflect on Fallout 4, what's your favorite of the three? You can include DLC or mod experiences in your assessment as an all-encompassing vote. |
| The PSP is shutting down digital operations next year in Japan Posted: 27 Nov 2015 02:30 AM PST Sad times. The PSP will end software sales, and the UMD Passport program will be shut down on March 31, 2016 in Japan. After that point you can still re-download old content or buy though from other systems (PS3, PC, or Vita) and transfer it -- just not through the PSP itself. Although people tend to chide the system at times, it sold well, and is home to some of my favorite games. Classics like Mega Man Powered Up are constantly in my cycle of yearly titles to play, and I sincerely hope this isn't the end of Sony's portable line. It would be a shame to see a perfectly good legacy go to waste because they screwed up the Vita and got greedy with over-priced memory cards. |
| $60 GameStop gift card deal for $50 on Black Friday Posted: 27 Nov 2015 02:15 AM PST Update: The GameStop one is selling fast. Will probably go out of stock within a few hours. Planning to shop at Toys R' Us or GameStop sometime this holiday season? If these stores are your choice location to pick up amiibos, pay attention because this morning's Black Friday gift card deal is for you. For a limited time until they sell out (and they will), Gift Card Mall and PayPal Digital Gifts are offering $100 worth of Toys R Us gift card for $85, and a $50 GameStop gift card with a bonus of $10 for $50 (we're not sure why they don't just label it as a $60 card but whatever). Here are the two deals along with some other gift card discounts available from the same retailers on eBay during Black Friday:
In terms of quantity count, there are supposedly 5,000 Toys R Us and GameStop gift cards at that price. For iTunes, you're looking at a whopping 30,000 units. If only Nintendo allows their retailer partners to discount eShop cards this much during Black Friday and Cyber Monday... |
| Review: Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon Posted: 27 Nov 2015 02:00 AM PST The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon spin-off series transports the colorful cast of pocket monsters from the role-playing games into the challenging world of a roguelike dungeon crawler. Super Mystery Dungeon retains the charming polygonal graphics introduced in Gates to Infinity, but returns to some of the more difficult aspects of the earlier titles. It also boasts a full roster of all 720 Pokémon. That's right, every known Pokémon can be recruited and controlled by the player during dungeon exploration. It has that "gotta catch 'em all" mentality of the core Pokémon games mixed with a radically different style of gameplay, and it works like a charm. |
| Capcom shares some tips for Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen for PC Posted: 27 Nov 2015 12:00 AM PST Dragon's Dogma was an unconventional RPG that in many ways, was stuck in the past, but I really dug what it was trying to do. Every so often I'll jump back into it, and it was even more enticing once the Dark Arisen content dropped. With the PC version rapidly approaching, Capcom has dropped a new tips guide to acclimate newer players into the franchise. Dark Arisen will arrive on PC in January, and with it, likely a heap of glorious mods. Expect some thoughts from our own Patrick Hancock on the PC port as early as next week. |

| The new Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition trailer shows the whole cast Posted: 26 Nov 2015 07:00 PM PST When it’s not being an absurdly long name that’s a pain in the arse to type, Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition is the updated version of Sony and Dengeki Bunko’s crossover fighting game. It released in Arcades earlier this year, and we’ve known about the console release for a while now, but why not have a big ol’ trailer showing off the cast anyway? While most of them we’ve seen before, Ignition also introduces four new playable characters and six new assists. Brace yourselves, we’ve got two big lists incoming: The new playable characters are:
The new assists are:
Blimey that’s a lot of names. I’d like to take this opportunity to complain that there isn’t a single Baccano! character in the game anywhere. There’s Durarara, but no Baccano!?! I want to play as Ladd Russo dangit! Dengeki Bunko: Fighting Climax Ignition is coming to PS3, PS4 and PS Vita on December 17 in Japan, with no confirmed release dates for Europe or North America just yet. |
| Official PC and Mac streaming is coming to the PS4 Posted: 26 Nov 2015 06:00 PM PST Have you ever gazed longingly at the Xbox One's ability to stream games to a PC? Have you ever wished your PS4 could do the same thing, wished to be taken into the sweet embrace of inFamous: Second Son or Metal Gear Solid V streamed onto your PC monitors in another room? Well you can thank Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida for making all of your dreams come true, as he has confirmed via Twitter that it is something that is in the works: The tweet's likely a response to a third party program called Remote Play PC that launched a while ago. As the developer is charging about £6 for the program, which isn’t official or endorsed by Sony, chances are PC Remote Play won’t last for long following this announcement. Still, it’s nice that it seems to have given Sony the kick up the arse they needed to get the remote play ball rolling officially. There’s no confirmed date, nor any further information about how exactly it’ll work, but we know it's coming now. It’s not exactly the PC port of Destiny I’ve wanted, but it comes close! |
