Batman: Arkham Knight returns to Steam Oct. 28 Posted: 24 Oct 2015 01:00 PM PDT Batman: Arkham Knight will resurface on Steam next week, Warner Bros. announced today. Four months after it was initially released (and was subsequently pulled the following day due to a mess of performance issues), the PC version will step up to the plate again on October 28. Rocksteady and its "external PC development partner" have been working since late June to resolve the port's many problems. In the interim, the studios have been working on patches, the latest of which has given Warner Bros. the confidence to sell the game once more. To bring the PC version "fully up-to-date," the re-release will feature content that has since come to consoles, including a photo mode and character skin. PC users that purchased the season pass will also now be able to access all the bonus content that has been released to date. The consensus among Steam users seems to be this was the bare minimum Warner Bros. could have done -- other than nothing -- with many asking for some type of reparation for the turmoil. It will be fascinating to see how much company feels it can charge for the game at this point. Batman: Arkham Knight - PC release date announced [Steam]
Games aren't too expensive, you're just broke Posted: 24 Oct 2015 11:00 AM PDT [Cynicism and gaming go together like peanut butter bees and chocolate fire ants. Between crazy season passes and outrageous insurance policies for your virtual bases, it's easy to get angry. But WryGuy wants to temper everyone's expectations for more straightforward practices, like how inflation has made gaming cheaper but everything else more expensive. ~Strider] I'm writing to you all today because I've sensed a certain bitterness in the gaming community for the past few years, and it's made this hobby significantly less enjoyable for me. The common thread I see tying everything together is money, so I'd like to point some things out: Most Kickstarter budgets are too small, people on Patreon are not particularly rich, gaming sites like Destructoid are not raking in tons of cash, video games are not too expensive, and if you tend to spend your time gossiping and taking a dump on people on the internet, it's time for a reality check.
Cave's Mushihimesama launches on PC Nov. 5 Posted: 24 Oct 2015 10:00 AM PDT Cave's Mushihimesama -- Bug Princess, if you'e nasty -- is coming to PC on November 5. Initially released in 2004, the vertical arcade shooter has since made appearances on PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and iOS platforms. This version promises three game modes with multiple difficulty settings, various viewing options, global online leaderboards with replay sharing, and local co-op. According to Tokyo-based publisher Degica, Version 1.5 (a remix of the game previously only released via first-run copies of the Xbox 360 version) will be available as downloadable content. The base game will be available for $19.99. Also, Degica says more Cave games are on the way. Mushihimesama [Steam]
Streaming Halo 5: Guardians of Ga'hoole Posted: 24 Oct 2015 09:09 AM PDT Watch live video from Destructoid on www.twitch.tv Halo 5 is out on Tuesday, so I'm streaming Halo in 15 minutes. Get Locke-d in! We're going through the first three levels of the game.
Experience Points .26: Dark Souls Posted: 24 Oct 2015 09:00 AM PDT Experience Points is a series in which I highlight some of the most memorable things about a particular game. These can include anything from a specific scene or moment, a character, a weapon or item, a level or location, a part of the soundtrack, a gameplay mechanic, a line of dialogue, or anything else about the game that is particularly noteworthy and/or awesome. This series will no doubt contain spoilers for the games being discussed, so keep that in mind if you plan on playing the game for the first time. This entry is all about Dark Souls. Feel free to share some of your own favorite things about the game in the comments!
| Resident Evil 4 is coming to Wii U next week Posted: 24 Oct 2015 08:00 AM PDT Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition might not be the prettiest version of the game, but is by far the best. The Wii U faithful (the European variety, at least) will soon have an opportunity to see why, as the Capcom classic is launching on the Nintendo eShop on October 29 -- just in time for Halloween. To sweeten the deal, the €19.99/£17.99 download will be 25 percent off until November 5. No word if North America will see the same treatment. Nintendo frequently makes baffling decisions with its Virtual Console service, like when it celebrated Back to the Future Day" by releasing Wild Gunman (which appeared in Back to the Future Part II) in Europe, but not other regions. | Sega apologizes for Sonic Runners 'Boob' boner Posted: 24 Oct 2015 07:00 AM PDT Someone at Sega made a helluva typo, accidentally naming a character in Sonic Runners' seasonal Halloween stage "Boob" instead of "Boo," which prompted this apology: "In the current 'Halloween Special Stage' event, the character 'Boo' has been incorrectly named 'Boob,'" reads a notification from the free-to-play auto-run platformer. "We are currently working on a fix for this error and hope to have one implemented shortly. The Sonic Runners team apologizes for any inconvenience caused and hopes to see you again soon in the world of Sonic Runners!" It's okay, Sega. I forgive you. This little mishap was more fun than playing the game, anyway. [Via Paul Veer] |
Tecmo's Deception returns next week on PSN Posted: 24 Oct 2015 06:00 AM PDT Tecmo's Deception: Invitation to Darkness is being re-released on PlayStation Network next week in North America, according to the latest episode of the PlayStation Blogcast. Ahem. Before we go any further, let me just warn you "this game contains satanic references and may be inappropriate for some individuals." Okay, now with that out of the way... Originally released in 1996, Deception follows the exploits of a man who finds himself in the services of Satan. Charged with protecting the Castle of the Damned, players must either set traps to repel a stream of intruders from the fortress' walls or allow the blighters to escape. Deception went on to spawn a number of sequels, including the PlayStation 2's Trapt, which is also available on PSN. The most recent entry in the franchise, Deception IV: The Nightmare Princess (an expansion to last year's Deception IV: Blood Ties) launched this March for PS4, PS3, and Vita. The PS1 original will be available digitally for PS3, Vita, and PSP in North America next Tuesday. PlayStation Blogcast 185: Tales of the Undead [PlayStation Blog]
22% off Steam copies of Fallout 4 and Street Fighter V Posted: 24 Oct 2015 05:00 AM PDT Mmm.. smells good. Pumpkin spices in the air. Orange decorations adorn public places. Yep, Fallout 4 is coming. Over at GMG they launched a new weekend 22% off code, discounting the aforementioned post-apocalyptic title (which has recently gone gold) along with a few other goodies such as Street Fighter V to $46.80. In the case of SFV, the latest beta is live as of writing and if you want in on the action, pre-orders do include access to all beta phases till the game's Spring 2016 release. Matchmaking is apparently a bit slow but the game is looking sweet on the PC. Beta ends Sunday 4PM Pacific, so if you don't have time this weekend we'd just wait on it as the deal will come around again. Yesterday marked the release date of Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and the announcement of the April 28th release for Total War: Warhammer. The former is shaping to be an excellent game while the latter is well, from The Creative Assembly. Probably best to wait on that one too. Console deals? Only thing you'll want to note is this PS4 deal from Groupon for $313.49. Its not a bad price, but if you can play the waiting game, we'll see what retailers have to offer in terms of bundles for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Obscure Video Games: Michigan: Report from Hell Posted: 24 Oct 2015 02:00 AM PDT On its surface, Michigan doesn't appear to stand out from the crowd of survival horror games that infested the PlayStation 2. A mysterious virus is turning everybody into monsters and you have to fight to stay alive. However, this is a Grasshopper Manufacture title, a studio that likes to do things a bit differently. Let's start with the name. Michigan doesn't take place in Michigan; all the action here is in Chicago. The title comes from Lake Michigan, where a plane crashed and appeared to start the outbreak. The game was never available for sale in Michigan, Chicago or any other place in the USA either. It only saw release in Japan in 2004 and Europe the following year. Another unusual thing about Michigan is the way it plays. You're a TV news cameraman recording reporters in the field trying to document the situation. Instead of direct interactions, you point your camera at things and "tag" them by clicking the X button. This indicates to the reporter that they need to do something. For example, if you tag a door knob, the reporter will open it. If you tag a monster, the reporter will (usually) shoot it. Occasionally, you are able to perform a shove action with L2, but it's mainly just for opening things.
| Well, at least I didn't try to redeem a code as my Gamertag Posted: 24 Oct 2015 01:00 AM PDT When I first signed up for a PlayStation Network account many moons ago, I was dismayed to find my desired username was unavailable. Heartbroken and frustrated about not being able to go by the moniker xXxNoScopeXxX, I created a handle I knew would be wholly unique to me. Little did I know the decision would haunt me for years to come. To this day, scarcely any of my online teammates can pronounce the random throng of Welsh words I pressed together in a naïve moment of dissatisfaction. I will probably forever be known as "cadta-whatever," a grim reality I blame entirely on Sony and its loathsome policy that prevents upstanding citizens like myself from rebranding ourselves with good, wholesome usernames like 420bro69 or BernieSanders2016. Some people have it worse than me, though. Take, for instance, Destiny player Q56H-2KN2-64GP, who seems to have accidentally tried to redeem a code while setting up a Gamertag. Poor guy.
