| Maybe Valkyria Chronicles isn't dead after all Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:30 PM PDT Sega has filed a trademark for something called "Aoki Kakumei no Valkyria" (Valkyria of the Blue Revolution), which may or may not be the next entry in the Valkyria Chronicles franchise. It's worth noting the mark can be applied to anything from console games to pachislot machines. So, regardless of whether it pertains to Valkyria Chronicles or not, what this is remains unclear. Following its initial release on PlayStation 3 in 2008, Valkyria Chronicles was ported to PC last year. The most recent main entry, Valkyria Chonicles III, launched in 2011, but was never localized. Earlier this year, Sega terminated service for Valkyria Chronciles Duel, a card-based social game for web browsers and mobile devices that Sega and NHN operated since July 2012. Selvaria Bles and Alicia Melchiott, a couple familiar faces from the series, appear as characters in Sega and French Bread's new fighting game Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax. セガ『戦場のヴァルキュリア』の新作か!?『蒼き革命のヴァルキュリア』の存在が明らかに!! | Yoshi's Woolly World is such a happy game Posted: 19 Oct 2015 01:00 PM PDT I'm about halfway through Yoshi's Woolly World and I am so grateful to have a dedicated co-op partner. There's this intoxicating contrast between the cute, handcrafted aesthetic and our innate desire to screw one another over as much as possible while still making tangible progress. (Did you need to hog all of the hearts? You have full health! And stop turning me into an egg!) It isn't a challenging game -- not that I've seen yet, anyway, aside from the bonus levels unlocked by finding hidden collectibles -- but not every platformer needs to be brutal. Sometimes, you just want to drift away in a happy place free of frustration. That's Woolly World. Level 1-7, Clawdaddy Beach, is when it all started to come together for me. Yoshi turns into a motorcycle, for starters, and those foam-covered crustaceans from Yoshi's Island are back as purses with protruding claws and eyes. Best of all, though, is the music. Oh my goodness. |
George Lucas, writer of Star Wars Episodes 1-3, said video games can't have plot Posted: 19 Oct 2015 11:45 AM PDT The man whose just about only claim to fame is biting Akira Kurosawa films but making all the characters wear pajamas, and then doing three more really fucking awful versions of that, has some opinions about story-telling in videogames. Microsoft's-then Don Mattrick, Steven Spielberg, and the director of the four worst Star Wars films, George Lucas, spoke at a panel at the University of Southern California [UPDATE: this panel was a couple years back]. When asked if there would be more parity between story-telling in film and games, Lucas responded, "They’re always going to be different," before smartly following up with, "They’re never going to be the same." It's because video games can't have plots, Lucas says, which is why Star Wars Battlefront must be all pew pew pew. "Storytelling is about two things. It's about character and plot." According to Lucas, games are just now discovering the idea of "character." "Like sports. It’s about Tebow. It’s about, you know, Kobe. They’re starting to realize that if they focus on the characters it makes the game much richer. But by its very nature there cannot be a plot in a game. You can’t plot out a football game. You can’t plot out feeding Christians to lions. It’s not a plot." It is possible Lucas is unaware that there video games that exist that are not Pong or a similar, solely competitive play experience, as he is also unaware that Star Wars Episode 1 through Episode III are shit. That would be tough to believe, though, given Lucas lended his name to LucasArts, the developer of story-focused adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and Grim Fandango.
Get the gang back together for Halo 5's Spartan Companies Posted: 19 Oct 2015 10:30 AM PDT Halo 5: Guardians has clans, but that's not what they're called. They are "Spartan Companies." You can start your own group and recruit up to 99 others, or join an existing one. Either way. Each company has private forums, as well as stat tracking for individual members. Best of all, you can design your company's emblem and write a custom motto. That should be fun. By creating or joining an active Spartan Company (with a minimum of four members), you'll be awarded a free REQ pack containing customization items for your character. Something to set up while you wait for that day-one update to download, perhaps.
Hideo Kojima left Konami October 9, can start new work in December Posted: 19 Oct 2015 09:30 AM PDT Konami used to be mon ami but now? More like non ami. Does French use "non" or is that just Italian? I don't know any more French, let alone something that rhymes with Konami. Anyways a recent New Yorker piece has pinned down venerable game director Hideo Kojima's official departure from Konami, as well as when he can start making another game. There was supposedly, "a rather cheerful but also emotional goodbye" departure ceremony on October 9 attended by about a hundred people, though notably absent were Konami's president, Hideki Hayakawa, and its CEO, Sadaaki Kaneyoshi -- or, at least, the anonymous source didn't see the two big wigs there. Kojima did not provide comment for the piece, "citing a legally binding agreement with his former employer." His non-compete clause expires in December, at which point he can go back to making games, in whatever form that might take. Maybe a F2P JRPG for iPhone. Or he points to the $180 million dollars The Phantom Pain made and says, "give me money" and investors give him money for a new game. Maybe Sony? There's also a good quote in the piece that will show you just how EXTREEEMMMEEE former Konami employee Tak Fuji is. With respect to reports of Konami employees refusing to "adapt" (see: going from making decent budgeted console games to mobile stuff) and getting reassigned to work on pachinko factory assembly lines or as janitors in Konami's sports clubs, Fuji said: "I saw many colleagues unwillingly reassigned. Most of them blamed everyone but themselves. But they were not willing to adapt. They were waiting for the golden days to return. All they had left were legendary stories of their products, which are no longer relevant for either the technology or the market." Extreme! Kojima was probably the only feasible holdout thanks to his star power and Metal Gear's continued success. Why Did Hideo Kojima Leave Konami? [The New Yorker]
Final Fantasy XV director would like to work on Legend of Zelda Posted: 19 Oct 2015 09:00 AM PDT In a bit of fantasyland fun wherein the sky rains donuts, whisky is a state-provided utility and we're not all tumbling towards death and trying to make the ride as bad as humanly possible, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata would like to work on The Legend of Zelda. Now, this won't happen because Tabata is working on Final Fantasy XV (to his credit, not for all of its near-decade existence) and also works for Square Enix, not Nintendo, but we're talking fantasy here. Everyone takes slides to work and escalators back up the hill home. The Star Wars prequels were never made. People are guaranteed an actual living income, some kind of "minimum wage" that allows human beings the basic dignity of existing. Dogs and cats living together! This stirring bit of make believe comes from Dengeki PlayStation's special 600th issue, as spotted by Nintendo Everything, when Tabata was asked what other series he might like to work on if magically granted carte blanche.. "The Legend of Zelda series. I'm not quite sure why myself, but a Zelda game made with the technology and know-how of Final Fantasy XV is the game I wish to create as of this moment."
Galak-Z has a more forgiving mode on Steam Posted: 19 Oct 2015 08:30 AM PDT 17-Bit is bringing its stylish space shooter Galak-Z: The Dimensional to PC much sooner than I was expecting. How does this month sound? It's set for a Steam release on Thursday, October 29. In his review of the PlayStation 4 version, Chris brought up concerns over the game's "isolated" structure, but found the core experience to be "a treat for roguelike and space combat fans alike." The PC port includes a new Arcade mode which, according to 17-Bit, "lets you replay failed missions any number of times without losing all of your saved progress." Thank goodness. The original challenge remains under another name, Rogue mode, "if and when you're looking to test your skill and bravery by putting everything on the line, every mission."
Bethesda is making a Fallout 4 controller Posted: 19 Oct 2015 08:00 AM PDT There's a 20-percent-off sale happening this week at Bethesda's online store and as part of the event, the company will sell a new limited-edition item each day, Monday through Friday. Today, it's a t-shirt (which also comes as a free bonus if you pre-order Fallout 4 from the Bethesda Store), but tomorrow, it's this Xbox One controller. 5,000 of them will be up for grabs. I like that shade of blue, but I'm less sure about a few other things. The mysterious button below the right stick, for one. What is that thing? The tops of the thumb sticks aren't the standard design, either, and the same can be said for the d-pad. There's also the fact that it's a wired controller.
Tactical weird western Hard West hits Steam soon Posted: 19 Oct 2015 07:30 AM PDT I hope Hard West makes the most of its setting. It's a supernatural western with turn-based, tactical combat against cultists, cannibals, and demons. I've been keeping tabs on it since Steven's preview a couple months back (and smartly followed his advice re: Invisible, Inc.). Not much longer now. Developer CreativeForge Games has honed in on a November 4, 2015 release across Windows, Mac, and Linux. You'll be able to find the game on Steam and the Humble Store for $19.99 normally, but currently, there's a 20 percent discount on pre-release purchases. This is another one of those titles I didn't realize went through Kickstarter. Huh.
The Seahawks lost yesterday because Macklemore played Guitar Hero at halftime Posted: 19 Oct 2015 07:00 AM PDT A lot of dumb things happened in football this weekend. Michigan decided it would like Michigan State to continue its recent domination of the intrastate rivalry, so the Wolverines did this -- a not very good football play. The Indianapolis Colts unleashed one of the most hilarious plays in NFL history. The ball was probably never supposed to be snapped, but it was, and I hope Santa Claus brings me a clip of this play every year forever. One of the dumb things took place without teams on the turf, however. Macklemore played Guitar Hero Live at midfield during halftime of the Seahawks game yesterday. The stunt was an Activision promotion of its music game series, and a Seattle promotion of the rapper it continues to love while the rest of the world got annoyed with. Not coincidentally (probably), the Seahawks lost the game to the Carolina Panthers. When you have a two win, four loss team, I guess it's those Macklemore Guitar Hero performances that you really have to cling onto. @GuitarHero [Twitter]
These people take Bocce way more seriously than I do Posted: 19 Oct 2015 06:30 AM PDT Bocce just happens, right? Like, you're at a park with friends, drinking, having a good time, and all of a sudden people are playing Bocce. There's no rhyme or reason to it; Bocce doesn't abide by the laws of reason. Apparently, it's a much bigger deal than that. According to this trailer for Bocce Revolution (oh shit, it's a whole revolution now), people gather in their finest tracksuits to play in well-kept arenas. There are even spectators who are likely either hostages or very very bored folks. Bocce Revolution releases on October 23. At least it can't be as bad as that time the Assassin's Creed guy played Bocce against George Washington.
Newest mobile Final Fantasy celebrates with FFVI nostalgia Posted: 19 Oct 2015 06:00 AM PDT A new Final Fantasy is out this week and you won't be alone in not knowing or caring. Apparently the "too sexy" Mevius Final Fantasy already came out in June, so it's been a hot four months since the last one (not counting re-releases and ports). Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius by developer Alim continues the series' staple horrible titles with lovely logo art and features a mix of original characters and classic Final Fantasy folk doing shit about crystals. Unlike March's Record Keeper, which got a US release, Brave Exvius has towns and wild territory to walk around in. After its iOS and Android release October 22, Square is giving all players a "Magitek Armor with Terra Branford Piloting" playable character to celebrate the three million players that pre-registered for the game.
TrueForce's made-up Mega Man X doppelganger has a backstory Posted: 19 Oct 2015 05:30 AM PDT TruForce revealed its X-Kai figure last month, which retails for $89.99. He's described as X's "evil counterpart," and now, he has a backstory. According to the narrative, Dr. Wily stole Mega Man's blueprint and built a prototype, which was discarded and forgotten. Many years later said prototype was discovered by a mysterious figure and unleashed upon the world. So it's basically the fanfic story that every Mega Man X fan has wanted Capcom to adapt for the past few decades. I can dig it. X-Kai [Reploid Research Laboratory]
Sleuths find signs of more missing missions in Metal Gear Solid V Posted: 19 Oct 2015 05:00 AM PDT Which works better? "The Phantom Game," wherein all of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has a phantom writhing in its codes, a Ghost in the Machine, and also "game" and "pain" are like almost near rhymes; or, the much more obvious, "The Phantom Missions," which sounds worse? Let me know. Konami itself let us see a somewhat important chapter that was completely cut from the game and is otherwise very god damn necessary to wrap up a story thread in The Phantom Pain (let alone actually connect to the rest of the series). But could there be more? Not quite cut, but likely never to be found otherwise, there is one tangential ending. But there's also the data-mining that pointed to an entire cut third chapter, "Peace," as if the pacing wasn't messed up enough. Even more data-mining on reddit has found additional missions, including a bunch more "replay on harder difficulty" ones in Africa, which could be roughly the same size as "Chapter 2." MGSV complete mission list (95 missions, 27 missing, 10 hidden?) [reddit]
Halo 5's midnight launch event will be held digitally Posted: 19 Oct 2015 04:45 AM PDT I recently asked a few GameStop employees and managers if midnight releases were still popular, and the common answer was "no." It's obvious that the chain (and many other retailers) has been ramping up its digital angle as of late, but even now, not as many people are showing up to brick and mortar stores to grab their games. Microsoft is taking advantage of this, as it's running a midnight launch event online for Halo 5, the day before its October 27 launch. It'll be running a livestream for six hours before launch, which will feature media from the Halo universe, a roundtable with staff and Nathan Fillion, and other tidbits. Expect our review early next week. Xbox and YouTube Team Up for a One-of-a-Kind Halo 5: Guardians Launch Celebration [Xbox.com]
Tacky old porn sim fluffed for PC re-release Posted: 19 Oct 2015 04:30 AM PDT I dislike this art sooo much. It doesn't look like an anime at all. But seriously, at least aim for Heavy Metal, right? This is 1998. Leisure Suit Larry did a better job 10 years earlier on noticeably more restricted tech. Hell, Softporn II was hotter and it's a text adventure with lines like, "deep red, granite hard nipples." Lula: The Sexy Empire, recently revived on The Artist Formerly Known as GoodOldGames (GOG) (and itself formerly known as Wet - The Sexy Empire), is an unearthed bit of historical titillation, though the latter wasn't its exclusive aim as The Sexy Empire doubles as a business sim wherein you manage a porn studio. It's a nude Chroma Squad, or a deck of "raunchy" playing cards with nude torsos on each one. Got to imagine there are better porn games out there, not that I would know, as a family man. The $6 release (hah!) is currently split (hah!) between 5 star and 1 star user reviews at the moment, so there are definitely people out there not aghast at the art that looks like fan art of Homer of banging Maude. You'll probably find more bang (hah!) for your buck elsewhere, but game restoration's always good, so we don't lose items like this to the annals (hah!) of history. In fact, just play that lesbian ghost game, it looks pretty good!
Halo 5's day one update is 9GB, still not as bad as expected Posted: 19 Oct 2015 04:15 AM PDT Like prize fighters, the heavyweights of the holiday release season all weigh in before their turn in the spotlight. And, they're called heavyweights for a reason, as their storage capacity requirements tip the scales more often than not. Halo 5 falls right in line, but it's slightly smaller than we initially feared. Reports from earlier this month pegged Halo 5 at 60GB based on a figure on the game's box. That's a bit off, as it turns out. Halo 5 executive producer Josh Holmes confirmed on Twitter that the day one patch is 9GB. The initial install is 46GB. That adds up to a combined 55GB. Multiplayer is the main cause for the patch. Holmes mentions that map content is in the update, presumably with other multiplayer substance. That's typically par for the course when it comes to triple-A titles with multiplayer component. It's a hefty install for sure, as 55GB is a significant portion of the Xbox One's stock 500GB hard drive. Still, it's somehow not as bad as we thought it'd be. Silver linings and half-full glasses. @JoshingtonState [Twitter]
Sad and unfulfilled? Star Wars Battlefront will make you feel like a kid again Posted: 19 Oct 2015 04:00 AM PDT Sometimes while I sit at my white collar job in a gorgeous skyscraper office doing nothing in particular, I, too, feel bored with my life and remember how much I used to like Star Wars. The new Battlefront (and the new films series) knows its audience, of course. The same 30-40 year-old contingent with spending power that wants real hard to retreat into fluffy, warm nostalgia and just for a bit escape the bitter winter of reality. Its why there are 666 more comic book and nerd-adjacent films coming out before the year ends and why Avengers, Avengers 2, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Star Wars: Episode 1 and, yes, Star Wars are all among the top 9 domestic grossing films of all time. Also that garbage-ass Jurassic World. Meanwhile Kevin Costner's seminal Waterworld only made $88.2M domestically (plus $176M abroad), only good for #719 on the domestic list. Tragic. Mostly I'm just miffed I have to come up with a costume for a Star Wars-themed dress-up party next month. Maybe I should buy one of Bethesda's burlap sack Fallout 4 dresses.
Bethesda has Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Editions back in stock Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:51 AM PDT [Update: Nevermind. They went out of stock immediately upon publishing. Told you they'd go fast. At least this is a good omen that maybe they'll become available again another time.] There's no time for witty ledes in a situation like this. Bethesda has the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition back in stock. All platforms look to be available, and they each run $120. They'll surely sell out soon. This is probably your last chance to get one prior to release if you don't want to pay a large mark-up on the second-hand market. Good luck! Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition [Bethesda]
The NES turns 30 this week in North America Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:45 AM PDT Although it was released in July 1983 in Japan, the NES is now over 30 years old in the west. It hit the US on October 18, 1985, and literally changed the entire landscape of the gaming industry. Several years later I would find one at Sears, and due to my fascination with my cousin's Atari 2600, I asked for one for my birthday, and used all of my holiday money for it. I still remember loading it up and playing Duck Hunt/Mario for the first time, as well as trying to comprehend the RPG genre with Dragon Warrior. It took me a while but I finally caught on, and was completing games like Mega Man at a young age. While the Atari first sparked my interest, it's the NES that made me the gamer I am today. Feel free to share your memories of the console below, whether you picked it up near launch or played it for the first time years later.
Who's responsible? Ubisoft, Level-5 Yo-Kai Watch joint is barren Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:30 AM PDT Ubisoft has earned Electronic Arts level hate as a publisher, but I am curious who bears responsibility in this meager Yo-Kai Watch offering. Level-5 has been going fucking ham on the seemingly Pokemon-popular Yo-Kai Watch. Even one of its spin-off games has an extra release in the Red/Blue/Yellow vein. So clearly it's getting away with some shit. And so here's Yo-Kai Watch Dance: Just Dance Special Version, a collaboration between Level-5 and Ubisoft for Wii U. It is due out December 5 and is basically just face-less Just Dance mannequins in new costumes and it is going to cost $40 and it contains just 10 songs.
Destiny fans share their utter disappointment for Year Two's Iron Banner debut Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:10 AM PDT The Iron Banner (a week-long PVP event) is set to close later today in Destiny, and like its first appearance in Year One, it was a complete waste of time. For starters, the rewards weren't all that great, and some of the promises Bungie made in regards to the new and improved loot system didn't actually pan out. Users all over the web (including my own group of friends I play with) are reporting that even after earning rank five in the Iron Banner faction, very few items dropped, and they were complete garbage. This basically mirrors my experience as well, and I found that vanilla Crucible PVP matches gave better loot. This is exacerbated by the fact that Hunters have a massively buggy and broken infinite super glitch that players have been using -- a glitch so bad that the Trials of Osiris PVP event was even delayed for it. While I do like the changes that The Taken King expansion has brought, along with the fantastic new raid, it's crazy to think that Bungie still hasn't learned how to do events right. I mean, heck, remember how the Queen's Wrath event was supposed to be "put back in the oven" for a release eventually, and never came? Yep, Bungie has never had a weekly PVE event since.
Fallout 4 running 'solid 30 FPS' on PS4, Xbox One Posted: 19 Oct 2015 03:00 AM PDT As we near nuclear winter November 10, folks are getting all ants in their pants for Fallout 4 and those ants are full of radiation, I bet, hence the extra bad itching. Bethesda's Pete Hines answered a slew of non-sense on Twitter over the weekend, an admirable, but bad use of a platform best suited for taking pictures of food and imaging Joe Biden's favorite Wu Tang album. Asked about the framerate on the console version of Fallout 4, Hines noted it is, "solid 30 FPS," saying, "I play it all the time. I think you'll be pleased." This was in reference to someone getting a PS4 for Christmas, though they asked about "the consoles version" generally, but Hines noted again the Xbox One runs the same. Meanwhile, the PC version, which comes on a DVD instead of Blu-ray, "doesn't contain the entire game," though, "there is data on the disc." You install Fallout 4 with the disc -- it's not a Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain situation -- "though you will still have to download from Steam." Perhaps most telling, though, is what Hines didn't answer. Questions regarding difficulty modes, but also this inquiry: "Is it true you can put wheels on the houses you craft and drive them around??" No response. Hmm... The $30 season pass just went up for sale on the PlayStation Store.
| Ubisoft is making Uplay even more complicated with 'Ubisoft Club' Posted: 19 Oct 2015 02:05 AM PDT Ah man, Uplay -- one of the worst proprietary services in gaming right now. Ubisoft isn't giving up on it, and has decided to ramp up its efforts with another service titled "Ubisoft Club." It will offer cross-platform rewards, as well as "extra in-game content" (isn't this literally what Uplay does right now?), as well as exclusive betas. You'll earn points from playing games, just as before. You can sign up now with your Uplay account if you like, but since Ubisoft hasn't actually explained how this service is different, maybe hold off. It's entirely possible that it's a re-branding. Ubisoft makes great games, but personally, I think this whole ecosystem is a failure. Unlike other services like EA Access that actually provide benefits, this just allows players to unlock stripped content or cheat codes for Uplay "points," which ultimately serves no purpose other than consumer confusion. | Review: Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water Posted: 19 Oct 2015 02:00 AM PDT I was on the cusp of adolescence when I first played the original Fatal Frame. My friend Richard and I spent many a summer night with eyes wide from the horrors we had witnessed in the Himuro Mansion. The sequel Crimson Butterfly, has long one been one of my favorite games to replay when the fall months come around. Malaise crept in when The Tormented rolled around due to re-used areas and assets, but it managed to have some fun with your character's home a la Silent Hill 4: The Room. Since Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse never came to the US, I never had a chance to try it out. As you can see, the prospect of a fifth game coming to the Wii U was enough to send me into nostalgic flashbacks. Using the GamePad to manipulate the ghost-capturing Camera Obscura? Yes, please. A more powerful system than the PlayStation 2 rendering these ghosts that frightened me when I was young? I'll take two. I actually threatened Chris' life for a chance to review this. So it brings me absolutely no pleasure to say that Maiden of Black Water is like that horrible combination of liquid and garbage you find at the bottom of your trash bag. |
Life is Strange's final trailer is a dream nightmare Posted: 19 Oct 2015 01:45 AM PDT On the eve of the release of Life is Strange's final installment, Max is frozen on the precipice of catastrophe. Truthfully, she has been since the cliffhanger ending to episode four way back in July. Thus far, Life is Strange has been dealing largely in short-term time alterations. This trailer hints at the idea that something larger may need to be implemented to fix everything. Or, it'll be disastrous -- there's always that possibility. While it doesn't spoil anything, Polarized's launch trailer alludes to some of the more poignant moments in the series. It might be best to avoid if you haven't kept up on Max's adventures to this point. It has been a rocky ride thus far, but Life is Strange concludes (?) tomorrow. The fourth episode, Dark Room, was the best the game has had to offer so far. Hopefully Polarized can follow in those footsteps. Regardless, we'll have a review and guide for you in the very near future.
StarCraft II match-fixing and gambling lead to arrests, lifetime bans Posted: 19 Oct 2015 01:30 AM PDT Twelve people have been arrested in Korea in relation to a match-fixing and illegal betting on StarCraft II, according to Team Liquid. A Korean eSports Association (KeSPA) statement names Park Wae-Sik, head coach of the professional StarCraft II team Prime and two of his players, Choi "YoDa" Byung Hyun and Choi "BBoongBBoong" Jong-Hyuk At least five professional matches between January and June of this year were fixed. Brokers and go-betweens were also arrested, including a former pro and current eSports journalist. Park allegedly funneled roughly $4,450 to Choi Jong-Hyuk for him to take a dive, while Choi Byung Hyun received around $26,000 for losing two matches and then was blackmailed into losing two more. The Korean eSports Association has already banned Park and YoDa for life and anyone else found guilty will receive the same treatment as, "the association's stance toward illegal betting will continue to be one of zero-compromise." Additionally the association may sue for damages. Gerrard, YoDa, BBoongBBoong and nine others indicted in match-fixing scandal [Team Liquid]
| Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is coming to PC in December Posted: 19 Oct 2015 01:00 AM PDT Remember earlier this year when Square Enix assured fans that Lighting Returns was coming to PC at some point? No? Well it did. So there. Producer Kitase Yoshinori has broken the silence again this week, noting that they are still working on it, and that it's in the "finishing touches" phase. If all goes well, it should see a full launch in December. He then apologized for missing the Autumn target. Take as much time as you need, Yoshinori, as long as it's not buggy. While a lot of people may be scared off by the Final Fantasy XIII bit of the title, I heartily enjoyed Lightning Returns and thought it was by far the best entry in the trilogy. | Nintendo unveils new $99 Yo-Kai Watch 2DS bundle Posted: 19 Oct 2015 12:15 AM PDT Nintendo is heavily invested in Level-5's Yo-Kai Watch, which is interesting as it's basically Pokemon's biggest competitor. In addition to handling the overseas publishing, it's also launching a new 2DS bundle next month on November 6, clearly aimed at a younger audience that may not have a device yet. It will retail for $99.99, and will come with a pre-installed version of the first Yo-Kai Watch. Uh, wow. Considering the game is $40 on its own, that's the lowest price for the 2DS yet. Speaking of Watch, I'm actually enjoying the show, which is currently airing on Disney XD. It's aimed at kids, sure, but the cast is endearing and the dub isn't bad at all. |
| Steam Controllers straight-up do not work on Macs right now Posted: 19 Oct 2015 12:00 AM PDT Valve seems to play things loosely quite often, much like its "open air, no boss" work environment. As such, it turns out that Macs are not supported right now in regards to Valve's recently released (for pre-orders) Steam Controller and Steam Link devices. Oops! As a result, the company is going to attempt to fix the situation over the next few weeks before its wide release in November. In the meantime, Mac owners can take advantage of an apology offer, which allows them to gain access to Valve's "Complete Pack," consisting of every past, present, and future Valve game. You can also request a refund. That's a pretty neat deal, but you'd think that Valve would have warned people at some point before they paid $100 for a pair of paperweights.
