Radio Destructoid records tonight! Ask us a question! Posted: 28 Feb 2015 12:00 PM PST Radio Destructoid is our official community-focused podcast! Join hosts Mr Andy Dixon (Community Manager), Bill Platt (Legendary Dtoider), Conor Elsea (Community Monster), and Kyle MacGregor (Associate Editor) as we talk about our favorite Dtoid community highlights! It's time for another episode of Radio Destructoid! On this week's show, we'll be joined by special community guest Retrofraction! He may or may not be the man in the header image. (Note: he is not.) Want to ask us a question? Hit us up in the comments below! Our favorite question will win this month's Loot Crate* delivered direct to their door! Who knows, I may even draw a penis on it first. Hamza did that for me once when I was just a community member. Good times. Good times. Anyway, you have until 8pm Pacific tonight to submit your questions. Have fun!
Rumor: Ness amiibo leaked, selling on Chinese auction site Posted: 28 Feb 2015 10:30 AM PST A Ness amiibo has been spotted for sale on a Chinese auction site and appears to be in European packaging. Currently it sits at about $55, though I don't imagine that price will stay there for long. Comparing the images in the gallery to the official Ness amiibo pictures, I'd say it looks to be the real deal. What do you think, real or fake? Ness amiibo leaked in China [My amiibo News]
Destructoid saves the world! Sorry, Kyle Posted: 28 Feb 2015 10:10 AM PST Last time on Destructoid Saves the World, I looked around the map, panicked, to find that Kyle MacGregor had died. I didn't even see him go. It was tragic. Brett Makedonski is actually en route to my home at the moment, so maybe he'll show up and be able to co-pilot and keep our boys safe. Let's check in on our squad (Kmac RIP), which is filling out nicely and going to need some community/viewer additions soon. We've a heavy in Chris Carter, a sniper in Jordan Devore, Wett Brett Makedonski as an assault. Holmes, Dixon, and Brittany are there, too, I think. It's been a while. I've forgotten. And now I'm sure I'm bound to get them all killed. Oh well. Let's continue our normal, Iron Man (no save scumming) game of XCOM (with Enemy Within expansion) and see if I can save the world with a squad full of those most suited for the job, people who write about videogames because they had one too many felonies to join the military.
Binding of Isaac: 10 tips for making The Lost playthrough easier Posted: 28 Feb 2015 10:00 AM PST [Dtoid community blogger Corduroy Turtle offers some strategies for achieving 100% completion in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. What a guy! --Mr Andy Dixon] The concept of difficulty is likely different for everyone. Personally, I want to feel a real sense of accomplishment when I beat a game. I thirst for near-impossible challenges and I certainly don't appreciate having my hand held. I want to feel like I've really earned it; like I've suffered. I've beaten the original NES Ninja Gaiden without dying. I've battled my way through Hell in Spelunky and defeated King Yama multiple times. I made Super Meat Boy my bitch. Though I know skill is a factor, I think the fact that I'm just really goddamn stubborn helps a lot too. Once I set my sights on something, I can accomplish just about anything. Eventually. The latest challenge I set for myself seemed simple enough: unlock all of the items in The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. For those who are unfamiliar with the game, the items Isaac comes across are selected randomly from a pool of "unlocked" items. Some are unlocked by beating the game a certain number of times or completing specific challenges. Others require the late-game bosses to be beaten with each individual character. This is something I did in the original The Binding of Isaac and I was looking forward to doing it again. Sure, it was bound to be difficult, but I absolutely had to see everything this big, beautiful game had to offer. No excuses. What I didn't know at the time was there was a super-secret playable character hidden in Rebirth that required a series of obscure deaths in a specific order to unlock. Luckily, you can use Seeds for the first three steps, which is beyond helpful. This is something that was buried deep within the game; something that creator Ed McMillen hoped would take months, if not years, of piecing together clues to discover. Unfortunately for him, a few savvy gamers peered into the code of the game and figured it out in less than a week. Welp, that's the world we live in.
Mod adds local co-op to Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for PC Posted: 28 Feb 2015 09:30 AM PST After reports of Capcom pulling a switcharoo on the local co-op feature of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for the PC, a mod has been released to temporarily fill that gap. Currently, the mod requires players to use gamepads and only works in local story mode -- Raid Mode support hasn't been added yet. Personally, the lack of split-screen was the only reason I didn't buy the PC version. If they add Raid Mode, then I might even double dip because the game is that good. Players can grab the mod over at the Steam Community.
Tearaway Unfolded looks to be a summer release Posted: 28 Feb 2015 08:30 AM PST Now the former head of audio at Media Molecule, Kenneth Young has revealed that the PS4 not-really-a-port version of Tearaway is coming this summer. After announcing that he was leaving Media Molecule to work for Media Molecule as an audio contractor, Young let his followers know that Tearaway Unfolded is set to ship this summer.
Experience Points .06: No More Heroes Posted: 28 Feb 2015 08:00 AM PST Experience Points is a series in which I highlight some of the most memorable things about a particular game. These can include anything from a specific scene or moment, a character, a weapon or item, a level or location, a part of the soundtrack, a gameplay mechanic, a line of dialogue, or anything else about the game that is particularly noteworthy and/or awesome. This series will no doubt contain spoilers for the games being discussed, so keep that in mind if you plan on playing the game for the first time. This entry is all about No More Heroes. Feel free to share some of your own favorite things about the game in the comments!
Inti Creates' weird shooter Gal Gun is getting a sequel Posted: 28 Feb 2015 07:00 AM PST Gal Gun, one of the most bizarre Japanese imports I've ever played, is getting a sequel. Inti Creates is making a follow-up to its bishoujo rail shooter, which first launched on Xbox 360 in 2011 and came to PlayStation 3 the following year. The experience sees a barrage of lovestruck schoolgirls charge at the player, who will need to incapacitate the ladies at bay by blasting them with powerful pheromones. Yes, seriously. The announcement was made at Inti Creates Fan Festa 2015, where the studio also announced Azure Strike Gunvolt 2. The new Gal Gun game is expected to release later this year. 『ぎゃるがん』最新作が発表!前作の一年後が舞台で、エンジンはUnreal Engine [Inside Games]
Report: Xbox One is 'for babies,' says high school freshman Posted: 28 Feb 2015 03:30 AM PST In an interview conducted with Destructoid, high school freshman and East Aurora High videogame savant Chad Roberts commented on the long-term viability of the Xbox One platform, referring to it as "a gay console for babies" and "a waste of money for idiots." Roberts also had much to say about the console's line-up of exclusives. "Yeah, Titanfall is basically shitty Call of Duty. And Call of Duty is an Xbox game, so that's shitty too. Halo 6 looks gay. I dunno, Forza looks okay. Not as good as DriveClub, but whatever." When asked how he felt about downloadable exclusives like D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, Roberts had little opinion about the Xbox One's digital offerings. "D4? Is that like four dicks or something?" The 13-year-old, who was still looking for a date to the spring formal, seemed more positive about the future of the PlayStation 4. "The PS4 is fuckin' dope, man. It's so cool. Have you seen Killzone? Those guns are sick. It [the PlayStation 4] also looks really sexy, not like that dumb box shit. It also plays used games, too. Did you know that you can't play used games on the Xbox? I hear it's gotta be always online too." Roberts also seemed confused as to the relevance of the PlayStation Vita. "What's that?" he asked. Overall, Roberts seemed optimistic about the future of videogame consoles as a business. "Once everyone stops playing the Xbox None (Roberts requested I underline and bold the 'none' in the previous sentence) and buys a PS4, we're gonna get more awesome PS4 games. Anyway, if you see puberty walking around, tell him that I'm looking for him!"
Azure Striker Gunvolt sequel is coming, says Inti Creates Posted: 28 Feb 2015 02:58 AM PST Azure Striker Gunvolt was a pretty fantastic platformer, and thankfully, the series isn't done yet. Inti Creates has confirmed that Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 is coming, and will arrive on the Nintendo 3DS at some point. No other information is known, but this is pretty awesome news -- so awesome that their own site crashed after announcing it. Here's hoping for a Mighty Gunvolt 2. Inti Creates [Facebook]
Christine Love's sexy trailer gets the family-friendly treatment! Posted: 28 Feb 2015 02:30 AM PST We like to keep things family-friendly here at Destructoid Dot Com, so you can imagine the quandary we found ourselves saddled with once Christine Love dropped a steamy NSFW trailer for her new game My Twin Brother Made Me Crossdress As Him And Now I Have To Deal With A Geeky Stalker And A Domme Beauty Who Want Me In A Bind. We love to cover games both ridiculous names and boob, but we always have to think of the children! Of course, it was Mike Cosimano who came up with a solution. "What if it was Transformers?" he said, referring to his life in general. And thus, like Athena springing from the mind of Zeus, 'Ladykiller in a Bind [feat. Transformers]' was born! Enjoy it, or don't. Please understand.
