A really cheap bundle of Assassin's Creed games highlights some decent Amazon deals Posted: 05 Jan 2015 01:30 PM PST Amazon must've had a bunch of download cards left over following Microsoft's holiday promotion featuring a reduced Xbox One bundle. Apart from several unsold Assassin's Creed packaged consoles, how else could you explain the sale of Assassin's Creed Unity and Black Flag for a grand total of $30? Whatever the reasoning, that's a pretty fair deal for two Xbox One games, especially given that Unity is almost brand new (and supposedly properly patched up by now). Amazon has a few other things going on at the moment, but most of the deals seem like hangovers from the holidays.
PS4 sales at 18.5M worldwide, PS+ subscribers near 11M Posted: 05 Jan 2015 12:00 PM PST PlayStation Plus was such a clever way to migrate people towards the idea of paying for online mulitplayer. It's still a good service, but also sly as hell. I let my membership lapse last year, but I'm (probably) in the minority, as Sony has recently announced it has 10.9 million PlayStation Plus ($50 per year) subscribers, up 3 million since October 2014. Similarly, the PS4's sales numbers are good despite a narrative that positioned Microsoft as making a holiday comeback (the Xbox One dominated Black Friday ad pages). Microsoft hasn't issued an update since the 10 million consoles shipped to retail milestone in mid-November 2014, but Sony says it has now sold to consumers over 18.5 million PlayStation 4s worldwide. The 18.5 million is up from 13.5 million (September 30, 2014). That means 5 million in the last three months. Microsoft (and Nintendo) may have done well over the holidays--the Xbox One is said to have outsold the PS4 in November in the US--but Sony has clearly continued to do well, uh, as well. If the Wii U was able to turn Smash Bros. into consoles sold, might be a healthy holiday season all around. Sony PlayStation 4 sales top 18.5 million units worldwide [Reuters]
All hail TASbot: Twitch chat on a Super Nintendo, complete with emotes Posted: 05 Jan 2015 11:00 AM PST "If you've ever wondered what would happen if you pressed your buttons perfectly -- if you pressed them a little bit earlier, a little bit later, or if you had perfect timing, perfect reactions, and you knew exactly what was going to happen -- that's basically what a tool-assisted speedrun is." The early highlight out of livestream marathon Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 has got to be TASbot, our new overlord. The tool-assisted speedrun robot "played" familiar games like Mario Kart 64 and Pokémon Red in unfamiliar ways resulting in, among other things, live Twitch chat being streaming to a Super Nintendo "through a rather absurd method." That's putting it mildly. Skip to 36:25 to see what is now affectionately referred to as Pokémon plays Twitch. There's commentary in the video, thank goodness, but for further reading, Ars Technica has a good summary. Earlier in the stream, there was a crazy tool-assisted Mario Kart 64 gauntlet (starting at 3:05) that four human players attempted to to survive (11:50). And building off last year's stream which saw Pong and Snake inside Super Mario World (what?), the TAS crew brought a new treat I won't spoil here. Skip to 25:50 to watch the madness unfold. For more archived Awesome Games Done Quick footage, check this page, or watch live on Twitch.
Far Cry 4 inaccessible on Xbox One, even if you already bought it Posted: 05 Jan 2015 10:30 AM PST Far Cry 4 has been removed from the Xbox One games store, leaving some players unable to access the game despite having already purchased and downloaded the title. Ubisoft is actively investigating the issue, but suggests contacting Xbox Support in the meantime. The problem was first reported nine hours ago on reddit by user AegeusRex, who was stymied by their inability to launch a digital copy of Far Cry 4 Gold Edition. Several other users lodged a similar complaint, and the malaise spread to Ubisoft's support forum soon after. Ubisoft believes the problem stems from Far Cry 4 being unavailable for purchase through the Xbox One's digital store. The game appears in searches, but clicking on the standard version results in a 'Page Not Found' error. Curiously, the Gold Edition seems to be available for purchase. We'll keep an eye on this story, but for now, it seems like your best bet is to wait for Microsoft to restore the game. Maybe buy a physical version next time? [Via Kotaku]
This huge laptop is as much a 'laptop' as my German shepherd is a lapdog Posted: 05 Jan 2015 10:00 AM PST My dog Hook (see him here) isn't one of those big dogs who fancies himself a lapdop, for which my hairy-enough wardrobe is thankful. He is too heavy, and my lap, stomach, back, chest, shoulders are usually occupied by the cat anyways. On the other hand, the GT80 Titan from MSI calls itself a laptop, but at 10 pounds with a 18.4" screen and mechanical keyboard, I think it knows it is destined to be desk bound, like so many of us. Does a portable gaming desktop sounds appealing to anyone? You might not cuddle up in bed with it, unless your thighs are very powerful (like mine are), but I'm sure, like those hyper thin Razer Blades, it could be useful for certain people. Probably those with more dollars than cents.
| I hope this Gabe Newell shopkeeper makes it into Dota 2 Posted: 05 Jan 2015 09:30 AM PST Combining the huggable head of Valve and the perpetual time sink that is Dota 2 in a single Steam Workshop submission -- it seems so obvious now, bringing these two internet loves together. Shopkeeper Gabe Newell deserves a thumbs up and inclusion in the game. "The past year has brought with it a huge leap in the development of e-sports and in particular Dota 2," writes creator down_limit, who made the model "in gratitude to the development team." He hopes Valve will include the character in the current New Bloom Festival but even if it isn't approved now or ever, I appreciate the work that's gone into this. The cult of Gabe endures. | Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes made in Far Cry 4 is a work of art Posted: 05 Jan 2015 09:00 AM PST We already knew that Far Cry 4's level editor was an open invitation for masterpieces to be made. That much was evident after this goat butt stabbing video surfaced. But, some people are making more serious playgrounds. One of the finer examples is this fairly faithful recreation of the opening area of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. It still has all of Far Cry's animations and mechanics strapped to it, but picking off guards with a silenced pistol looks so wonderfully Metal Gear. |
Nintendo releases its best 3DS theme yet Posted: 05 Jan 2015 08:30 AM PST I haven't bothered to change my 3DS theme despite Nintendo's nags to do so but that changes today. The Official Best 3DS Theme, Pokémon: Slowpoke, is now available outside of Japan. For $1.99, we're getting a beachside Slowpoke background and an instrumental version of the song "Donai Yanen Yadon" which you should already be deeply familiar with. To download it, tap the Home Menu Design button on the top left-hand corner of the 3DS touch screen, hit Change Theme, then go to the Theme Shop and search under New Themes. Be sure to read this short story while downloading for maximum potency. [Via Tiny Cartridge]
Review: Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham Posted: 05 Jan 2015 08:00 AM PST Don’t let the name fool you -- this is by no means a Batman game. The Dark Knight may grace the box, but underneath its bat-enameled shell lies a Justice League game at heart. A menagerie of DC heroes and villains combined steal the show in this installment and take us far away from the streets of Gotham. Despite this identity shift, the game still manages to provide a decent amount of content, features, and unlockables -- perhaps at the expense of more crucial mechanics.
Go download your free D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die and MX vs. ATV Alive Posted: 05 Jan 2015 07:30 AM PST I'm downloading Swery's Dark Dreams Don't Die right now. You should do the same, assuming you have an Xbox One and an Xbox Live Gold membership. The quirky adventure game is free throughout January as part of Microsoft's Games with Gold program. Queue her up! On the Xbox 360 front, MX vs. ATV Alive is available for free now through January 15, followed by The Witcher 2 from January 16 through the end of the month. I'd consider grabbing the former out of curiosity but I don't have the hard drive space to spare. Blasted thing.
Nintendo has seemingly discontinued the original 3DS Posted: 05 Jan 2015 07:15 AM PST We have reason to believe Nintendo of America has completely ceased production of the original 3DS model, based on information from retailers and Nintendo itself. Originally, Nintendo had begun to wind down the availability of new 3DS units, relegating the Coral Pink 3DS to a Toys"R"Us exclusive. Since then, the Coral Pink 3DS has been quietly removed from the Toys"R"Us website. The Coral Pink unit is still available on Nintendo's refurbished storefront, but no such luck for any other 3DS model. This persists through major North American retailers, such as Walmart, Target, and Best Buy. GameStop has listings for the original 3DS, but the site's store locator failed to find anything within a 100-mile radius. Local GameStop employees indicated to Destructoid that Nintendo had outright discontinued the system, and they would no longer be receiving new stock. The 3DS is similarly hard to find in the UK, with both GameStop's UK website and GAME only showing 'new' results for the 3DS XL and the 2DS. Nintendo's official website also lacks an option for a brand new, regular 3DS, instead pushing the various 3DS XL and 2DS bundles available. 3DSCapture.com, a fan-run site that produces capture boards for the 3DS, also believes the console has been discontinued, citing "The original model 3DS is no longer in production and new systems are becoming difficult to find" as the reason behind canceling its 3DS with pre-installed capture board service. This news comes on the heels of Nintendo of Japan putting the 3DS and 3DS XL models out to pasture in anticipation of the New 3DS' release. At the moment, it is unclear if Nintendo is quietly doing the same in Western territories, or if there are other factors involved. We've reached out to multiple Nintendo sources for comment, and will update this story as necessary.
Trick your loved ones into thinking these Japanese McDonald's toys are amiibo Posted: 05 Jan 2015 07:00 AM PST Amiibo sure are all the rage, huh? Who would've thought that Nintendo's artificially scarce plastic figurines would create such a crazed demand? Were you lucky enough to get one that looks just like Steven's dog? If so, you'll be rollin' in the dough! Just don't cut the tags off; then those dumb bears aren't worth anything! If you aren't savvy enough to have flipped a defective amiibo for a wad of greenbacks, you probably can't afford to buy new amiibo for all your loved ones. Fortunately, McDonald's of Japan is giving away a bunch of Pokémon toys with Happy Meals that you can probably pass off as the real deal. The faux-amiibo that McDonald's is releasing are Pikachu, Fennekin, Chespin, Lucario, Froakie, Mega Charizard, Dedenne, and Pancham. Coyly give this impostor of the highly coveted Nintendo figures to your stupid little cousin. He'll be so pleased; what a sucker. "How will I pay for a plane ticket to Japan when I can't spring $13 for legit amiibo," you ask? Hey man, I'm just here to make sure we fulfill our mandatory quota of an amiibo post every six hours, not to figure out the logistics of your life. 『ポケットモンスター オメガルビー・アルファサファイア』 のスクラップも限定でもらえる、“ハッピーセット「ポケモン」”が登場 [Famitsu]
If you hate the Pac-Land stage in Smash Bros., maybe this mini-game will make it better Posted: 05 Jan 2015 06:30 AM PST Pac-Land is considered a hallmark title for being one of the first games to use and help popularize parallax scrolling. Despite its contribution to modern gaming, Super Smash Bros.' homage to it isn't all that well-received. You see, scrolling levels are more of a nuisance than anything in fighting games. That's why this group of four decided to make their own fun with the Pac-Land stage. Rather than duke it out, they decided to try to simply survive. Having cranked the speed up to 200 percent, the only rules are no attacking one another apart from footstools. Last one standing is the winner. Things get fairly intense by the second trip through. If turning Smash Bros. into a platformer still doesn't make Pac-Land any better, you might just want to stick to Final Destination.
This new footage from the EarthBound-inspired Y2K looks soothing Posted: 05 Jan 2015 06:00 AM PST Y2K is still in development, and it wears its EarthBound/Mother inspirations on its sleeve. The latest footage of the RPG shows the protagonist running around in the "East Mainstreet" town area, taking in the sights while a soothing track plays. The art style is excellent, and the modern/retro look is doing the game a lot of favors. I especially dig how far the draw distance looks, and the idea of exploring vast faraway lands looks fun. It's a tiny sneak peek, but I'm interested.
Black Mesa-affiliated website broadcasts intriguing emergency message Posted: 05 Jan 2015 05:30 AM PST Something's up over at BMRF.us (Black Mesa Research Facility), the website connected to the still-unfinished Half-Life remake Black Mesa: Source. On January 1, the site began looping an intriguing emergency broadcast system message, the full transcript of which found on reddit /r/Games is as follows: "The following message is transmitted at the request of local authorities. At 9:47 AM, Mountain Time, a disaster of unknown type has occurred at the Black Mesa Research Facility causing significant damage and failure to various power and communication systems in the surrounding areas. An immediate evacuation order has been issued for all residents within a 75 mile radius of the facility, and on-site military has been dispatched to provide assistance. "Make sure to bring an emergency supply of food, water, clothing, first aid kit, flashlights with extra batteries, and battery powered radios. Follow local evacuation routes which have been marked by local authorities and only use one vehicle. Do not return to the warning area until the all clear has been given. If you are not in the evacuation zone stay where you are. If you are within the evacuation area and have no transportation locate your nearest police department or military officer. Do not use telephones or cell phones except in the case of emergencies. Stay tuned to local news media outlets for further details and information on this situation." It's an interesting coincidence that this broadcast has come about when it did, as I'd just dedicated my Christmas holiday to playing through the spectacular remake of the classic Valve title. If you're unfamiliar with the project, make sure to have a look at Joshua Derocher's brief, but excellent review of the game. He seemed to like it quite a bit. If you're interested in having a go at it yourself, you can find download links and information here. While we can safely rule out anything connected to Half-Life 3, I think it's is a safe bet that it may be related to the impending Steam release of the game announced back in 2013. Of course, it could be connected to the multiplayer portion of the game that's been in the works; or, perhaps it's both. Lending credence to the speculation, Black Mesa: Source level designer Craig Mirfin has been spotted posting tweets recently about both the multiplayer aspects of the project as well as commenting on the emergency broadcast message itself. At this point, this is all we have to go on, but as the story continues to develop we'll be sure to keep you up posted.
We stab dudes and get stabbed in Telltale's Game of Thrones Posted: 05 Jan 2015 05:00 AM PST Oh hey, Destructoid! What's up? You're looking great, as usual. My name is Mike Cosimano and I've actually been around these parts before! But now that Max is fleeing to a non-extradition country to escape punishment for his crimes, you're going to be seeing a lot more of me and my partner-in-crime Will Westwater, starting with this Let's Play of Telltale's Game of Thrones. Now, I'm on record as a fan of Telltale's new dialogue-heavy house style. Any developer that focuses on narrative is A-OK in my book, and it seems like a lot of folks out there agree with me. But I've never been taken with Game of Thrones, making me something of an outlier. I don't know why; maybe it's all the spoilers I like to ingest second-hand. It's something that I've always meant to rectify, but I've just never gotten around to it. So maybe there's awesome Easter Eggs we're missing, and this video series is going to drive long-time fans of the series totally insane. But at least we're hitting the major beats, right? Right?? Anyway, it's good to be here. You're never going to be rid of me. [Update: Apparently I worried some folks with the whole 'Max is leaving' thing! Don't worry, Max still loves Dtoid and all of his Dtoid children. He did not plan to "just go out for a quick drink" and never come back, leaving a single mother to raise you all on her own. Sorry if that's how it felt. He's writing a post now to explain a little more about why he's moving on. Expect to see it soon!]
Iron Galaxy is teasing Omen, a new Killer Instinct character Posted: 05 Jan 2015 04:30 AM PST A new character is coming to Killer Instinct, and developer Iron Galaxy is hinting towards what we'll get. It's Omen, Herald of Gargos, and anyone who purchased the season two pack will get him as part of their purchase. Lore-wise he's been freed from the possession of Jago, and powered up by battling as Shadow Jago. I'm digging the homage to Gargos from Killer Instinct 2 as I'm a sucker for demonic fighters like Ogre from Tekken. The Textual Stream: 01/02/15 - The Herald approaches! [Ultra Combo]
Stylish indie platformer Chester gets sequel this year, demo right now Posted: 05 Jan 2015 04:15 AM PST Chester has not been in the news lately, but back in 2011 it was known for being one of the few worthwhile games on the Xbox Live Indie Games channel. It widened its audience after that by releasing on PC. Our own Jordan devore called it "pretty good." Chester United, the followup to the original, has been announced for a 2015 release on Linux, Mac, and Windows. Like its big brother before it, Chester United has a demo available for those who prefer to try before they buy. It looks like it has even more of the signature in-game environmental style changes. The demo includes only four styles, but ten are planned for the final release.
Harada was joking, Lucky Chloe is still in Tekken 7 Posted: 05 Jan 2015 04:00 AM PST Recently, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada announced that an idol-themed character named Lucky Chloe would be making it into Tekken 7. People complained, and Harada noted that instead, US fans would get a Chuck Norris-type character with a gun. Many people thought he wasn't kidding as his tweets didn't really indicate that it was in jest, but he has since clarified that every character will be in every version, including Chloe. He says that "Media will see only what they want to see. Then I said just counter sarcasm/joke. Anyway, We promise an experience equal for all players, communities. Haven’t changed since the first TEKKEN." So don't worry, it looks like Chloe will make it in after all and won't be a "region exclusive." Katsuhiro Harada [Twitter]
Yup, Five Nights at Freddy's 3 looks unsettling Posted: 05 Jan 2015 03:45 AM PST A third installment in the popular animatronic horror series Five Nights at Freddy's is in production at Scott Games, according to an auto-response email obtained by PC Gamer: "Five Nights at Freddy's 3 is in production! Please do not email me asking any questions about it; NO questions about FNaF3 will be read or answered!" If there's any good left in this world, the new game will be titled Five Nights at Freddy's 3: Season of the Witch and veer off into a weird new direction. Given the developer's rapid production schedule on the last two titles, I don't see that happening. Why risk screwing up a good thing? (Because it'd be interesting!) Five Nights at Freddy's 3 appears to be on its way [PC Gamer]
Don't cross the streams on this working Ecto-1 NES Posted: 05 Jan 2015 03:30 AM PST Seller ultimatecustoms1982 has a treat in store for fans of Ghostbusters and the NES console -- a combination of the two! For $425, you can nab an Ecto-1 themed NES, which actually takes the shape of the vehicle. My favorite part though is the controllers, which are not only adorned with the Ghostbusters logo, but also apparently glow green. The top flips up to accept cartridges, one door is for TV inputs, and the other is for controller supports. It's a pretty snazzy and unassuming design I must say. Ghostbusters ECTO 1 [eBay]
| The Metal Gear Solid Quiet action figure hits the boobs trifecta Posted: 05 Jan 2015 03:15 AM PST I have to admit -- I'm slightly weirded out by the images for a pre-order of Play Arts Kai's action figure of Quiet from Metal Gear Solid. I can't quite put my finger on it. It might be the idea of popping off her head and plopping another one on. It might be the way the inside of her elbow looks. My thoughts of its creepy appearances aside, there's no denying that anyone looking for a high-boob-to-rest-of-action-figure ratio would be hard-pressed to find a better value. This one hits soundly on normal cleavage, underboob, and sideboob. Unprecedented. That's the Triforce of Boobs, an unstoppable force broken apart and scattered across the land because all three together could destroy humanity as we know it. It's almost like Play Arts Kai skimped on the clothing and passed the savings along to you. If this is your sort of thing, it lists at right around $90, but can be pre-ordered for a little over $60. | Level-5's CEO is jacked up about the next project Posted: 05 Jan 2015 03:00 AM PST Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino is pumped. After selling tons of copies of Yo-kai Watch in 2014 among a host of other successful IPs, 2015 is looking to be a good year for the developer. Recently, speaking to 4Gamer, he noted that he was particularly hopeful for a brand new project. Hino went on to say, “Level-5 will continue taking on new challenges. Soon, we’ll be able to make an announcement for the new title that will follow Inazuma Eleven and Yo-kai Watch. Please keep an eye out!" Their next project is heavily hinted at being a comedic-centric piece. I'd love a sequel to Weapon Shop de Omasse, but an announcement for a new Ni No Kuni would rock my world. | Wii U modder shows off Game & Watch amiibo creation process Posted: 05 Jan 2015 02:30 AM PST Mema Haxx is at it again! After showing off the creation of the unannounced Duck Hunt amiibo in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there were some doubts as to the authenticity of the video. Now he's released another demo, this time showing the entire amiibo creation process from start to finish with Game & Watch -- another amiibo that hasn't even been confirmed yet. It seems as if he was able to modify data to create a fake NFC instance, and stumbled upon unreleased characters. |
Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 is underway Posted: 05 Jan 2015 02:15 AM PST If this morning's Humble Bundle didn't already tip you off, this year's Awesome Games Done Quick event is now running. Every year it gathers some of the best speed runners to show their stuff, streaming the event and collecting money toward charity. With a goal of $500,000, the event is already more than 25% there after about a day. There are some cool events set up on the schedule. Later today there is an entire F-Zero block, going through four games in the series. Early Thursday morning somebody will play through the old Burger King promotional game Sneak King. Friday is when the heavy traffic will hit; Pokémon, Metroid, Super Mario RPG, and The Legend of Zelda will be played in the evening. Seems like a good lead-in to the weekend.
This Mario 64 HD fan project is coming along nicely Posted: 05 Jan 2015 02:00 AM PST While the Super Mario 64 HD fan project has been in the works for a while, it's all coming together as of recently. Multiple fans are hard at work on the game, and you can get a glimpse at the art style and gameplay above which looks like a spot on 1:1 remake, mechanically. I had a thought the other day on fan games. Why don't more projects just finish the game entirely, upload a Torrent, and sit back while it catches on like wildfire? That way they won't get shut down, and it'll be too late to identify an anonymous leaker with the right precautions. Just a thought! SM64 Fan Remake [Facebook]
Fowl play: People fly like birds with this Metal Gear Solid PC mod Posted: 05 Jan 2015 01:30 AM PST Someone needs to drink more milk because their bones seem awfully hollow. Although osteoporosis is no laughing matter, this video of a person flying around as a bird certainly is. The capture comes from Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes on PC with a mod that overwrites the raven model with that of a human. Simple, yet elegant. Now that the formalities are out of the way, I fully expect someone to write Metal Gear Solid / Hatoful Boyfriend crossover fan-fiction. Don't disappoint me. Majestic Miller [reddit via Kotaku]
The Awesome Games Done Quick Humble Bundle is awesome Posted: 05 Jan 2015 01:00 AM PST The Humble Bundle is back, and this time with a partnership with the Awesome Games Done Quick event. The four base games you'll find for the pay-anything package are Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior Classic Redux, Oddworld: Abe's Odyssee, and Volgarr the Viking. If you pay more than the average you can get a 30-day Twitch Turbo subscription (with a credit card, sadly), Shantae: Risky's Revenge, and early access to SpeedRunners. $10 or more will net you Escape Goat 2 and a three-month Xplit premium subscription. Not only are the games great, but the entire bundle is themed towards streaming, which is awesome. Humble Awesome Games Done Quick Bundle [Humble Bundle]
Maybe you want to play Limbo on PS4 too? Posted: 05 Jan 2015 12:00 AM PST If you own a device, chances are you can play Limbo on it. Blenders? Yep, I think those are equipped for Limbo. Those high-tech war machines where two guys have to turn a key at the same time to launch a nuke? Fact: They have Limbo pre-installed. It's probably even come to those old hot-orange Nokia phones that were only good for playing Snake. Probably. One place Limbo hasn't yet shuffled its monochrome, sister-searching ways to is the PlayStation 4, but that looks set to change. PEGI, the European ratings board, has a new listing for the macabre platformer on PS4. Playdead's grim trek through the afterlife is no stranger to Sony's platforms. It's already available on PS3 and PS Vita, and has been previously offered as a PS Plus free title.
Sony announces PlayStation Now subscription plan Posted: 04 Jan 2015 11:30 PM PST Sony is finally pulling the trigger on a PlayStation Now subscription service. Starting next Tuesday, January 13, PlayStation 4 users will have unlimited access to a catalog of over 100 PlayStation 3 games at $20 a month or as part of a three-month package for $45. A free seven-day trial will also be available when the program goes live, which should give interested parties an opportunity to take the streaming service for a spin if they haven't already. The subscription plan will come to other PlayStation Now enabled devices at a later date. PlayStation Now Subscription Program: All The Details [PlayStation Blog]

Schadenfreude alert: EVE Online pilot loses $1,500 after attack on unarmored ship Posted: 04 Jan 2015 10:00 PM PST You know what seems like a sound strategy for getting robbed? Try taking $1,500 cash out of the bank and transporting it elsewhere by walking down the street at night and waving that money in everyone's faces. Oh yeah, do all that while completely unprotected. It may not be perfectly analogous, but that's essentially what happened to an EVE Online player recently. Pilot Ozuwara Ozuwara outfitted his Ibis (a ship given to new players) with $1,500 worth of PLEX and set off on an ill-fated voyage. Before even leaving high-security space, a fellow pilot annihilated his ship and destroyed all the precious cargo. To comprehend the ramifications of this, it's essential to understand PLEX. It's not as if PLEX were some ambiguous commodity arbitrarily valued by EVE's players. No, its sole use is as a license extension to play more EVE Online, and it can only be initially acquired by plunking down cash. It's not necessarily on par with the battles where Titans valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars are lost, but it's not inconsequential either. It's further proof that some pilots just want to watch the world burn. EVE Online player loses ship with $1,500 of PLEX inside; not a single PLEX survives [PC Games N via Polygon]
