Best song of 2014 gets a Dota 2 parody

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 12:00 PM PST

While you're sitting there, not admitting that you love Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off," why not get down to this. Sick. Beat? Seriously though, this is an amazing parody of a catchy song for all Dota 2 fans.

SanctuaryRPG is now out on Steam Early Access

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 08:00 AM PST

SanctuaryRPG, which has been available on itch.io for some time, has now made its way to Steam as SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition. It's an ASCII RPG with an approachable, yet intricate and rewarding battle system and light-hearted writing. Personally, I'd recommend it to pretty much everyone, regardless of whether or not you are nostalgic for ASCII graphics or old-school RPGs.

Plus, it's only $5! The original version has had many updates since its release, and the Black Edition seems to have all that plus more. The "Early Access" tag is interesting, since after playing the original version, it definitely feels like a very complete game. The developers mention on the Steam page that the game will be in EA for "two months" and that this version just needs a bit more "polish and content." I can say from experience that the game feels very complete, and that spending the $5 won't leave you feeling gypped.

Amazon doesn't take the weekend off because videogame deals don't stop

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 08:00 AM PST

How's your weekend going? You got a few days off to break up the soul-crushing monotony of life? Work, sleep, work, sleep, die. Humanity should collectively decide that we aren't going to do anything that resembles work for, like, a year. Everyone just does jigsaw puzzles, and goes fishing, and falls asleep at night without setting an alarm for the next day. Sounds quaint, eh?

Alright, back to reality. I guess if we're going to waste too much of our lives working, we can at least make the little scratch we earn stretch as far as possible. Here are some videogame deals, if you're the type that spends money on videogame stuff. My guess is that you are given the website you're on.

There's some decent stuff this weekend that we haven't necessarily seen much of before. Discounts on Halo: The Master Chief Collection and The Last of Us sort of stick out. And, Pokemon White Version 2 is a fun, yet odd inclusion. Oh yeah, there's a fairly cheap 2TB external hard drive that would nicely supplement the piddly 500GB drives that come with PS4s and Xbox Ones.

Abandoned title 5734L3R reboots as RE5734L3R

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 07:00 AM PST

5734L3R (pronounced Stealer), the intriguing post-apocalyptic robotic future title that seemed to disappear as quickly as it had arrived is back, perhaps; or at least this shiny new teaser trailer for it seems to indicate it is for now.

While details are as fuzzy as they were when the original teaser made the rounds, we do have a few facts to go on. The official RE5734L3R site describes the title as a "platformer that focusses on atmosphere and exploration," and on the title's Facebook page, the developer hints at the game's design by asking "How do you feel about the idea that in game will not be any gameplay? Just a world that you can explore [sic]."

We do have a few bullet points to go on; although, like the quotes used above, some of them are not entirely clear -- most likely as a result of errors in translation from Russian to English:

  • Interact with the environment to connect to the world.
  • Use stealth to survive.
  • Solve puzzles to get access.
  • Hack the Network and social chips to make robots more friendly.
  • Move up the hierarchy of robots to get admin rights.
  • Use Bugs to fly very far.

Lastly, we have this description from the title's ModDB page to factor in: "It's not a game about gameplay, but about the world you are in. There are no humans and perhaps never was. But some aspects of the world ('anatomy' of certain robots, a kind of 'alphabet,' architecture etc) make this possibility very likely. Even though 5734L3R is robot and look like many other robots, he is a stranger in this world. He came here to steal something very important [sic]."

Looks like the Rosalina amiibo is a Target exclusive

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 06:33 AM PST

With the Lucario amiibo exclusive to Toys"R"Us, Meta Knight exclusive to Best Buy, and Shulk on GameStop's payroll, there's another one in the mix -- Rosalina & Luma, set to debut at Target.

This is not only backed up by a reddit post showing the item on a Target system as exclusive, but the Target site itself notes "TGT EX" next to the figure. As a note it is out of stock on the website right now, but keep an eye out.

Survival racer Distance available now on Early Access, also coming to PS4

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 06:00 AM PST

Distance, the neon-soaked spiritual successor to the popular freeware racing title Nitronic Rush is now available to test drive on Steam Early Access. For those interested, you can pick it up for a limited time at a 15% discount.

Unlike more straightforward racing titles, survival-focused Distance puts you in the driver's seat of a slick-looking futuristic racer barreling down the streets of a city intent on your destruction. Your car's abilities allow you to boost, jump, rotate and even fly as you attempt to navigate through the city's gorgeous but treacherous tracks. Have a look at the launch trailer to see it in action.

Key features available in the Early Access build include:

  • Abilities: The cars can perform many unique actions such as boosting, jumping, flying, and rotating to navigate along and around the track.
  • Obstacles: There are many dangerous obstacles waiting to challenge the player along the way.
  • Adventure: A single player experience to learn how to play the game as well as unveil a short story about the world's mysterious past.
  • Multiplayer: LAN, Online, and Split-Screen play in several modes, such as Sprint as well as Reverse Tag, Stunt, and many others.
  • Level editor: Includes a powerful level editor that can be used to create levels from inside the game and share them with players around the world using Steam Workshop.

I had a chance to check it out briefly last night and was impressed with the current build. For an Early Access title, Distance looks and feels extremely polished. I plan on getting in some more time with it today if I get the chance, as I'm really curious to see what the ever-creative Steam community have come up with using the included level editor.

Also of note to PS4 owners, Refract recently announced on the PlayStation Blog that the survival racing title will be making an appearance on your console of choice sometime in 2015. As we learn more, we'll be sure to keep you posted!

Update: We've got one Steam code for Distance Early Access to give away to a lucky commenter.  Check your Destructoid PMs later to see if you're the winner!

amiibo Wave 2 split at many retailers, Zelda, Little Mac, and Diddy Kong available this weekend

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 03:17 AM PST

Due to a shipping delay, half of Wave 2 of the amiibo line has been delayed in some retailers, while Zelda, Little Mac, and Diddy Kong are available now. As a side note, I called multiple Targets, Toys"R"Us stores, and GameStops, and they are already all sold out of Little Mac. Either way you slice it, Little Mac seems to be the "Marth" of the pack at the moment.

I went into my local store to pick them up after hearing a tip from a friend, but many people I know aren't aware that the figures are available yet, or haven't obtained a text from GameStop saying that their merchandise is ready to pick up. This is your reminder!

The other half of Wave 2, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Pit, are dropping sometime next week, with Pit being the rarest of this bunch based on reports. Multiple stores I contacted stated that they would obtain them either on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, so keep a lookout.

Wave 3 is set to drop sometime in February. Lucario, Shulk, and Meta Knight are exclusive to specific stores, and there is a rumored fourth exclusive -- said to be Rosalina at Target.

Wii U 32GB dives to $250 on Sunday, plus more Weekend Deals

Posted: 13 Dec 2014 12:00 AM PST

Since Christmas is just around the corner, most retailers are making a last push to put gaming deals in front of shoppers. The Wii U console discount makes a return this Sunday at Target - according to leaked weekly ads, it'll be priced at $249.99 for the Wii U 32GB Deluxe Bundle when the deal goes live Sunday.

That is a ridiculously good price, especially considering the same model was priced at $259.99 and sold out within half an hour during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday weekend. Recently we've seen heightened interest in the Wii U console itself from retailers as they take purchasing cues from customers.

Over at the Microsoft Store, they're continuing with their '12 Days of Deals', with today's batch featuring recently released Xbox One/360 games at 50% off (Destiny and COD: AW).

Things are slightly more quiet on the PC front, with Winter Sales looming on the horizon. GMG launched a fantasy game themed sale, while Origin just started up their Winter-ish sale - although prices are sorta meh. Lastly, there's this pretty kick-ass Batman Arkham pack over at Bundle Stars which collects the entire series for only $9.99 - perfect if you don't have any of the titles in your collection.

Deals brought to you by the crew at Dealzon. FYI: sales from certain retailers go toward supporting Destructoid.
