| Watch the fourth EVE Online video in the Clarion Call series Posted: 18 Sep 2014 11:00 AM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, Video, EVE Online, Culture, Events (In-Game), Game Mechanics, MMO Industry, PvP, News Items, Opinion, Sandbox, Player-Generated Content, Subscription Back in 2009, player corporation Rooks and Kings produced an EVE Online video called Clarion Call: Triage Special, which went viral among space MMO enthusiasts and had a profound influence on PvP tactics in the game. Clarion Call 2 and 3 were released to similar acclaim, and now a fourth installment has arrived. The lushly illustrated, hour-long Clarion Call 4 narrates one perspective of modern EVE tactical history with footage and sound from individual pivotal battles. Don't worry if you're not an EVE aficionado; it's accessible even for a newbie. Just be warned that some of the language and terminology is graphic. Enjoy the video below.Continue reading Watch the fourth EVE Online video in the Clarion Call series

| Massively's ArcheAge launch diary: Day six - P2W and the early verdict Posted: 18 Sep 2014 10:00 AM PDT Filed under: Fantasy, Business Models, Game Mechanics, Launches, MMO Industry, New Titles, PvP, PvE, Opinion, Free-to-Play, Hands-On, First Impressions, ArcheAge, Sandbox Is ArcheAge pay-to-win? That's a question I've been asked several times in recent days. Before I answer it, let's get something out of the way up front. And by "out of the way," I mean that this is the most important part of the article and needs to be emphasized in the intro.Pay-to-win is 100% subjective. There is no scientific or universally accepted definition of pay-to-win. Some things in this life are absolutes. Pay-to-win is not one of them. | Massively Interview: How Eleven is fighting to bring Glitch back Posted: 18 Sep 2014 09:00 AM PDT Filed under: Betas, Fantasy, Interviews, Free-to-Play The Massively staffers were delighted to hear that one of our favorite quirky browser MMOs might be coming back from the dead. Fan projects such as Eleven and Children of Ur, the latter of which is in a playable pre-alpha, are often at an extreme disadvantage with such resurrection projects, as they can lack legality, resources, and access to the original code. However, in this particular case, it looks as though Glitch might be a go for a return, as Tiny Speck has blessed player efforts and released the source code and art assets to help out.Of course, this doesn't mean that there isn't a huge mountain of obstacles to surmount, but if anyone's to do it it, it might very well be the Eleven team. We reached out to Project Lead Jim Condren and several members of his team to get a better feel for where the project is at and when we might be playing Glitch once more. | Like WildStar music? There's a concert for that Posted: 18 Sep 2014 08:00 AM PDT Filed under: Fantasy, Culture, Events (Real-World), MMO Industry, News Items, Miscellaneous, WildStar, Music If you happen to be in Poland on September 26th, make sure to grab tickets for the GameOn multimedia show, the first part of which will feature selections from the scores of popular video games, including MMOs like WildStar.Composer Jeff Kurtenacker blogged that he is "absolutely honored to announce that the GameOn concert in Krakow, Poland, will be premiering a new arrangement of Our Perception of Beauty (Drusera's Theme), which [he] composed for the MMO WildStar by Carbine Studios." According to Kurtenacker, this concert will mark "first time WildStar music will be played in a concert setting"; he also notes that flutist Sara Andon, spotlighted throughout the WildStar score, will again perform at the concert. Music from World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and other games will also be featured. Kurtenacker spoke to Massively's resident Jukebox Hero last year about his work on WildStar. He has since released several exclusive and free music tracks for players.

| ArcheAge endeavors to quell queues, bugs Posted: 18 Sep 2014 07:00 AM PDT Filed under: Fantasy, Bugs, Business Models, Launches, New Titles, News Items, Free-to-Play, ArcheAge, Sandbox Following ArcheAge's official launch earlier this week, Trion has continued its work on bugs and queues and other issues affecting the game. Last night, the team said that it planned to increase the total capacity of the North American servers and EU server Kyprosa by 10%. Players have complained of long wait times to log into Kyprosa specifically; one Patron claimed to have waited nine hours in the queue. Other players have taken to calling the game "QueueAge."Trion also says that it is working on fixes for Patron status bugs, having "deployed a fix for accounts that were missing their Patron Time after this morning's NA server maintenance." Community Manager Scapes says a relog after server-up is necessary. EU's fix should be in now as well, tweeted Trion CEO Scott Hartsman.

| The Daily Grind: What game are you sorta but not really following? Posted: 18 Sep 2014 06:00 AM PDT Filed under: MMO Industry, New Titles, Opinion, The Daily Grind, World of Warships Every time I see or write something about World of Warships, a little voice inside my head goes, "hmm, that actually looks pretty good and you should follow it." And then something happens and I forget about it until the next time I see a blurb or whatever. The point is, I'm kinda sorta interested in WoWS but it's still somewhat on the periphery of my gaming vision. What about you, Massively readers? Is there a game that you're semi-anticipating but not really following? Or am I just crazy?

| Latest TUG alpha video shows off Bronze Age update Posted: 17 Sep 2014 04:00 PM PDT Filed under: Betas, Fantasy, Video, Game Mechanics, News Items, Sandbox, Crafting Farewell, Stone Age; TUG is advancing to the Bronze. With update 0.6.5's introduction of new ores and the metallurgy equipment to smelt and shape them, players can forge more powerful bronze weapons and tools to help them better survive in their adventures.Of course, before you can use the ore you first have to find and mine it; ores will generate from certain rock materials and players find them by deleting rocks with their building too. And thanks to the addition of a larger 2x2x2 building cube, mining (and building) is made easier. To switch between the cube sizes, scroll the mouse wheel while holding Shift. Get a glimpse of all these shiny new tools in the video below. Continue reading Latest TUG alpha video shows off Bronze Age update

| New burner missions scrap nearly 20,000 EVE Online ships, CCP happy with results Posted: 17 Sep 2014 03:00 PM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, EVE Online, Patches, Previews, Dev Diaries, Sandbox CCP is "extremely happy" with the positive player reception of EVE Online's new burner missions that came in Hyperion. The studio said that the high level of difficulty in these missions was intentional in order to challenge the playerbase, and cited a bloodbath of 19,962 destroyed player ships as of September 14th as proof. The cost of the lost ships has topped 870 billion ISK so far.Due to the embrace of these missions, CCP is prepping a new batch of burner missions for September 30th. These new burners, believe it or not, will be even tougher than the current ones, working in teams of three against players. CCP will be putting these missions on the test servers later this week.

| World of Warships dev diary vid explains class mechanics Posted: 17 Sep 2014 02:00 PM PDT Filed under: Historical, Real-Life, Video, Classes, Game Mechanics, MMO Industry, New Titles, PvP, News Items, War, World of Warships Heads up, World of Warships fans. Wargaming has released a new developer diary video designed to talk you through ship types (i.e., classes). More specifically, today's nine-minute clip is about Destroyers and Battleships.Wargaming explains why it opted to simplify real-world fleet logistics like fuel and aircraft management. It currently takes 30 seconds for a six-plane squadron to refit on the deck of a carrier, and once a flight has expended its ammunition, the video says it will immediately return to the mothership rather than continue to fly about. Those are just a couple of the gameplay and balance considerations illuminated in today's diary. Click past the cut if you'd like to watch the whole thing. | World of Warcraft bumps up graphical settings Posted: 17 Sep 2014 01:30 PM PDT Filed under: World of Warcraft, Fantasy, Expansions, Dev Diaries, Subscription While they're not big bullet point features for Warlords of Draenor, technical improvements will benefit those who want to keep their game looking the best. In a new dev diary posted today, Blizzard gave a detailed explanation about how it's putting new anti-aliasing tech into World of Warcraft for the expansion."In short, we're taking strides to improve the performance of World of Warcraft, while also ensuring there's plenty of potential to further increase graphical fidelity and enhance our support of high-end CPUs and graphics hardware," the studio posted. Blizzard said that the changes represent the team "thinking long-term" for the game.

| The Goog wants to reintroduce you to its MMOARG Ingress Posted: 17 Sep 2014 01:00 PM PDT Filed under: Real-Life, Trailers, Video, Culture, Events (Real-World), Game Mechanics, PvP, News Items, War, Mobile, Miscellaneous, Player-Generated Content OK, maybe that's just my house. Google has put Ingress in headlines again this week with a brand-new tutorial video meant to introduce newcomers to the strangely addicting game. "Ingress is a giant game of capture the flag where you play a video game but in real life," declares a montage of whom we are left to assume are players. "Ingress is like FourSquare meets Geocaching meets giant game of Risk, where the board is like the surface of the earth." We've included the intro video below; the game is as always available for free on both the Apple and Android mobile stores. Go green team. | Massively's ArcheAge launch diary: Day five - Random knowledge Posted: 17 Sep 2014 12:30 PM PDT Filed under: Fantasy, Game Mechanics, Launches, MMO Industry, New Titles, PvP, PvE, Opinion, Hands-On, First Impressions, ArcheAge, Sandbox Today's diary entry is going to skip around a bit, as I'm still dabbling all over ArcheAge and finding it nearly impossible to convey everything important inside of a few thousand words. If you're just joining us, this is day five of Massively's launch chronicle because even though the game "launched" yesterday, it really launched last Friday via the founder head start.I'm aware that some people had disconnect issues and nightmare two-hour login queues on the 16th. I did not have much trouble with either, presumably because of my Patron account status regarding the latter. Trion does have some work to do, though, as I noticed a lot of slow-down in high-traffic areas throughout much of my play session last night, and I also logged into a black screen more than once and had to re-queue as a result. In other words, it was a typical MMO launch day. I've seen better, but I've also seen far, far worse. Continue reading Massively's ArcheAge launch diary: Day five - Random knowledge

| Forumgoers speculate on the name of SWTOR's next expansion Posted: 17 Sep 2014 12:00 PM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, Expansions, Free-to-Play, Star Wars: The Old Republic, MMORPG Forum poster Jerba explored the files posted on the official teaser page for the next Star Wars: The Old Republic expansion... and may just have stumbled on its name. Without any datamining or any breach of EULA, he found three files with the initials SOR in the filenames (SORTeaser_854x480.jpg, SORTeaser_550x120.jpg, and gt_sor_FINAL_US.mp4).Forumgoers speculate that it stands for "Shadow of Revan," although some runners up are "Spawn of Revan" or "Shroud of Revan." Unfortunately, BioWare is not commenting on the name just yet, but that gives players room to continue speculating. Maybe it's "Same Old Revan" or "So, Obviously Revan." Look for more information regarding the new expansion later this month.

| Star Trek Online's Delta Rising arrives October 14th Posted: 17 Sep 2014 11:36 AM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, Expansions, Game Mechanics, Patches, News Items, Star Trek Online, Free-to-Play, Crafting, Subscription Cryptic has just announced that Star Trek Online's Delta Rising expansion will be released on October 14th, 2014. As previously discussed, it will not only raise the level cap but jump into Voyager story space with new territory and famous figures from the franchise.Developers have also released a new dev blog detailing equipment in the expansion. One of the simple rules of existence is that when Delta Rising goes live, a lot of your old equipment in Star Trek Online is going to be a lot less relevant. There's no way around it. A jump in the level cap that leads to Mark XIV equipment naturally makes Mark XI stuff less potent by comparison. But rather than forcing you to earn a whole new set of loot, the expansion's upgrade system for gear should allow you to take an old favorite and bring it up to par. Players can buy, trade, or craft upgrade kits, which add a certain number of tech points to an item being upgraded. Once enough tech points are acquired, a small dilithium fee is paid and the item can be upgraded to the next rank, possibly increasing in quality along the way. For more details on how to accelerate the procedure, check out the full blog entry; it looks as if you won't have to say farewell to all of your old equipment after all. | WildStar's housing gets huge with Drop 3 Posted: 17 Sep 2014 11:00 AM PDT Filed under: Sci-Fi, Video, Patches, Previews, Housing, Subscription Housing fanatics (including those eternal level 14s) in WildStar have great reason to cheer for the upcoming Drop 3. Carbine Studios is giving a ton of love to the player housing system, including a huge expansion of how many items can be placed. In yesterday's Nexus Report, the team answered many housing questions and outlined some of the big changes coming with Drop 3. When it hits, players will be able to place up to 1,000 decor items both indoors and outdoors, which is an increase from the current 300 exterior and 800 interior limits. Other improvements include musical selection, more lights, separate sharing privileges for gardens, and a blank housing choice. The team has also been discussing new base terrains and the ability to move FABkits around. We've got the full video for you after the break, so chow down! [Thanks to Greg for the tip!] Continue reading WildStar's housing gets huge with Drop 3
