It's the return of Mr. Hankey in The Stick of Truth Posted: 02 Feb 2014 11:35 AM PST This ad for South Park: The Stick of Truth just debuted during today's Super Bowl game against the sports team that are sporting for the most sports. It's pretty tame, but does show off some plot points like the return of a certain old South Park character. There were two other quick looks at the game released on the official website too, "rejected" ads if you will. One involves Adolf Hitler and the other sees Mr. Hankey arguing with his poop wife. Game of the Year contender for sure.
Posted: 02 Feb 2014 09:30 AM PST As many of you Dtoid Huge Subscribers already know, Caitlin Cooke and I have ended our Huge exclusive show Destructoid Huge News of the Week due to geographical differences. That puts us in a tricky situation. DH Not W was meant to be a special bonus for Destructoid's most passionate patrons, not necessarily something meant to appeal to the larger readership, but still intended to be as well crafted and entertaining as we could muster. That's a funny balance to try to strike twice, but we don't want to leave Huge subscribers with nothing to fill the void. One idea was to bring back Art Hawk, a show that Tobiichi and I almost started years ago where a hawk explains that videogames are art. The first episode was about GTA. Tobiichi just cut together a second episode about Gears of War. We've got episodes about Dead Rising, Tetris, and Candy Crush planned. Is this the kind of thing you'd like so see more of? If so, any changes you'd like to see in the format? Any particular games you'd like covered? Let us know in the comments!
Review: Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God Posted: 02 Feb 2014 07:00 AM PST With the amount of role-playing adventures I’ve journeyed through in my life that culminate in apocalyptic showdowns, I’m a little tired. Save the world, rinse, and repeat. It’s so rare that a Japanese RPG deviates from this path. Perhaps it is why I mostly enjoyed last year’s critically panned Time and Eternity. The game was a mess -- both in gameplay and with its unnecessarily perverted sidekick -- yet amidst its troubles I found its overall theme refreshing. We live in a world full of problems: some big and some small. And while they may all not be the most altruistic, it doesn't change the fact they still may be important or, at the very least, interesting subject matter to us. This is what Time and Eternity excelled at, and it’s something Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God does even better. Besides, saving the world is overrated.
Sup Holmes doubles down on Kentucky Route Zero Posted: 02 Feb 2014 04:30 AM PST Today on Sup Holmes we welcome Jake Elliot of Cardboard Computer (Kentucky Route Zero, Wikipedia Vs. Predator) to the program. Jake's been creating games and "artware" for years, but it was Kentucky Route Zero that really put him and partner Tamas Kemenczy on the map. Jake and Tamas's most recent release is called The Entertainment. It may be the first videogame to see simultaneous release on Oculus Rift, standard computer display, and paper and ink. Based on a stage play from 1963, the game involves at least one character from Kentucky Route Zero, blurring the lines between reality and interactive fiction. We'll be talking to Jake about how he got started in games, what it's been like to find success, where the line between games starts and "artware" ends, Jimmy Corrigan The Smartest Kid on Earth, and a lot more. Join us at 1pm PST/4pm EST for the Sup(er) Ho(bow)lmes to end all Sup(er) Ho(bow)lmeses!
The best and worst games of the week - A Bravely January Posted: 02 Feb 2014 04:00 AM PST January has come and gone, but that doesn't mean there weren't some great games to play. Just look at all the amazing "indie" games that hit the PC this month. We had the fruition of two KickStarter campaigns finally see the light of day -- The Banner Saga and the first act of Double Fine's Broken Age -- the quirky Octodad, and the totally rad OlliOlii on PS Vita. There was definitely some great stuff to keep us busy this month, and February is looking just as smooth. I can't even tell you how much I can't wait to get my thumbs on Bravely Default on the 3DS. Well... I guess I just did.
