| Super Heroine Chronicle is one game NA will never see Posted: 25 Jan 2014 08:00 AM PST If it's one thing An American Tale taught me, it's to "never say never." But come on, what really are the chances of Super Heroine Chronicle landing on North American shores? It takes the mash-up wackiness of the Super Robot Taisen strategy RPG series and throws a cavalcade of anime heroines in the mix instead. If you played Project X Zone last year, then you know what to expect: random fan service, insane over-the-top attacks, and grid-based tactical warfare. It sounds like a lot of fun, but alas the subject matter may be too much to handle. That alone and I am not entirely sure if Bandai Namco has all the proper licences for the characters involved. If you're one to import, Super Heroine Chronicle hits Japan on February 6 for both PlayStation 3 and Vita. |
| Steam now offers self refunds on pre-ordered games Posted: 25 Jan 2014 07:00 AM PST While generally at the forefront of digital distribution, it has taken Valve's Steam a little time to catch the likes of Origin and GoG in terms of self-activated digital refunds. Any pre-ordered item that a user has on their store transactions page will now show a link (see image below) that allows users the ability to have the item refunded. Currently though, refunds seem to only be going back to users Steam wallets and not to the accounts were the funds originated from. Oh Valve, you are almost there. |
| Why don't more games do this? Mario Kart's linked world Posted: 25 Jan 2014 06:00 AM PST It's no secret that Nintendo puts a lot of love into their games, but I had no idea they had gone this far with my favorite mascot racer, Mario Kart: Double Dash. Thanks to another informative video from the folks over at GameXplain, much of the subtle nuances that were put into the Double Dash have been brought to light. I always knew the world shared locations from my favorite 3D Mario, Super Mario Sunshine (man I loved the GameCube), but to think much of the world is connected and can be seen within each track is a credit to Nintendo's past design. Here's hoping Mario Kart 8 commands just as much attention to detail. |
| Shoot-'em-up studio Cave Interactive retreats to Japan Posted: 25 Jan 2014 05:00 AM PST Cave appears to be giving up on the Western world. The studio behind acclaimed shooters like Deathsmiles and Akai Katana made an important announcement this week, revealing its English-language blog and Twitter presence will be shut down on February 28, 2014. The news follows several months of public inactivity on the part of the developer, which has spent the last couple years reeling from declining revenues and departures of key staff. Last year, the studio announced it would be restructure its various divisions and consolidate everything under one roof to focus mainly on social and mobile games. | Nintendo World Championship cart going for $100,000 Posted: 25 Jan 2014 04:00 AM PST It's beat up and it has the word "Mario" handwritten on it, but it also one of the rarest Nintendo game cartridges ever: It's a the highly sought after NES game Nintendo World Championship. Oh, and it's also going for, at the time of this article, $98,601.00. The game was originally a prize for a select set of 90 semi-finalists in Nintendo's nationwide Nintendo World Championship. There's even a more limited set of 26 golden copies of the game that were given away in Nintendo Power magazine. So while a rare prize indeed, I have to think that this current Ebay auction has been ran up to illogical proportions by people who have nothing better to do. Stay tuned for further information as the auction is set to expire at 3:55:10 PST. |
| Ride to Hell in this amazing Dead Space motorcycle helmet Posted: 25 Jan 2014 03:00 AM PST I'm pretty sure I'd never ride a motorcycle, but if I had this custom made Dead Space helmet I might have to reconsider. Crafted by Xtreme Kreations, the attention to detail on this one of a kind piece is quite ridiculous. It's so shiny you can even see a reflection of the photographer in one of the pictures. I only hope the wearer of this helmet has the remaining bike gear to complete the ensemble. As that would be one scary thing to see come roaring down the highway in your rear-view mirror. |
| Why OlliOlli passed on iOS to become a PS Vita exclusive Posted: 25 Jan 2014 02:00 AM PST Hot new PlayStation Vita exclusive OlliOlli was once on the verge on making a run at the App Store. That didn't happen, obviously, but developer Roll7 had a working prototype for its skating game designed solely around touch controls. So, how and why did the studio come to ditch the booming mobile market for Sony's struggling portable? OlliOlli was a much more difficult game in its original state. It demanded absolute perfection. Then a chance encounter at a games conference (and suggestion from a colleague) pushed the title toward buttons, analog sticks, and Sony. "We went in and showed [Sony] the game, and they were really into it," Roll7's John Ribbins revealed in an interview with Gamasutra. "They gave us a shot, asking if we wanted to bring it to Vita instead of iOS." Sony funded the project, and the change of platforms and inputs resulted in a very different game. Not only is the final product a lot more accessible than its early prototype, but Ribbins says submitting Sony QA, was very beneficial for his team. "It's helped us grow, and we learned a heck of a lot from that, and having to think about stuff I don't think we would have ever thought of if we were just self-publishing onto PC." | Microsoft considering competitively pricing digital games Posted: 25 Jan 2014 01:00 AM PST Speaking in a Reddit thread, regarding the state of digital downloads for Microsoft's Xbox One, Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb has confirmed that competitive digital priced games is "indeed on the agenda" as well as other "great stuff." "We are way aware of this and many of the concerns of the community," Hryb wrote. "We have some great stuff planned for Xbox One this year (and beyond.) As soon as we can share some of the goodness...we will :)" While not a breakthrough revelation, it is somewhat reassuring to know that Microsoft is paying attention to consumer concerns related to the Xbox One's current digital game state. Reduced prices, pre-loading, and pre-ordering titles on the Xbox marketplace would put the console one step closer to a PC service like Valve's Steam, which in my opinion is a good thing. |
| Renegade Kid shooter Moon Chronicles announced for 3DS Posted: 25 Jan 2014 12:00 AM PST Mutant Mudds studio Renegade Kid has announced Moon Chronicles, a remake of the 2009 Nintendo DS first-person shooter Moon, for release on 3DS this spring. The remastered sci-fi adventure will follow an episodic structure this time around, with the first four chapters launching in March or April for $8.99. Three additional installments will be released somewhere down the line for $1.99 apiece. A second season with all-new story content is planned for 2015. Moon Chronicles has been rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of its new platform, vaunting visual enhancements, while running at 60 frames-per-second, with or without stereoscopic 3D. The shooter will also feature Circle Pad Pro support, providing players with an option for more conventional twin-stick controls. Renegade Kid boss Jools Watsham has shared some comparison shots between the remake and original game. Check them out in the gallery below.
