Rad Show: Japan World Cup 2

Posted: 29 Dec 2013 09:30 AM PST

Rad Show is basically like a night light at Stevie Wonder's house. Tonight's show is going to be pretty stupid. I mean on the level of making Ernest P. Worrell proud of the stupidity that the show will contain. Tonight we're going to play a game that you all love, we've visited the third in the series, and now we're going to step back and give Japan World Cup 2 a whirl.

Final design unveiled for Mighty No. 9's Call

Posted: 29 Dec 2013 09:00 AM PST

A close call for sure, the winning design for Beck’s sidekick in Mighty No. 9, a spiritual successor to Capcom's Mega Man series, was announced earlier today in an email to the game's backers.

Earning 43.49 percent of the votes, Call F -- the winning design from Inti Creates' (Mega Man Zero) Yuuji Natsume -- barely slid by Call E's design, which garnered 41.14 percent. Call H, the third option for voters only earned 15.47 percent of all votes cast.

So what do think of Call's final design? Is it the one you would have voted on? All three Calls that were up for voting can be found in the gallery below.

Review: Max: The Curse of Brotherhood

Posted: 29 Dec 2013 06:00 AM PST

As the eldest of three, there have been more than a few occasions in my life where I wished my siblings would just disappear. Whether it was from them breaking my things; disrupting my privacy; or as I grew older, the embarrassment they caused me in front of any girl I brought over to the house, it’s hard not to miss the days where I was, without question, my parents’ favorite kid.

Max: The Curse of Brotherhood uses this simple desire to set up a grand little adventure through a magical world full of mystery and awe. A simple idea for sure, and one that was done over two decades ago in the cult-classic fantasy movie Labyrinth. Nonetheless, it’s a premise that easily strikes a chord with anyone who’s ever had the pleasure (or curse, depending how you look at it) of sharing a life with a sibling.

Capcom hints at new Ace Attorney and more for 2014

Posted: 29 Dec 2013 05:30 AM PST

Taking part in a massive group interview, over at 4gamer, a few of Capcom's lead developers have shed some light on what' in stow for the Japanese company in the new year.

While many of the announcements were merely teases of what't to come, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies director Takeshi Yamazaki did confirm that his team has begone work on the next title in the series.

Ghost Trick and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 1-3 director, Shu Takumi, additionally confirmed that his team's next title will be announced next year. Whether the title is a follow up to his last game, Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, or an all new IP is anyone's guess at this point.

Kenji Sugiura, producer of Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, confirmed that another classic from Capcom's historic stable of games will be revived by the end of 2014. What that title is, is still a mystery, but he did specify that the announcement would come around the time the weather warms. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on a new Ghosts 'n Goblins.

Perhaps the most interesting thing mentioned in the interview -- at least for fighting game fans -- was said by Kazunori Sugiura, Deep Down Producer, regarding how Capcom is set on reaffirming their presence in the fighting game scene.

Capcom is already set to release Ultra Street Fighter IV by next summer, so does this confirm we are going learn about the company's first next-gen fighter in 2014? Maybe it's a new Darkstalkers game... ha who am I kidding?

Sup Holmes erases the eraser with Marcus Lindblom

Posted: 29 Dec 2013 04:15 AM PST

This week on Sup Holmes we welcome Marcus Linblom to the program. Marcus is an long time veteran of the videogame industry with over 25 years of experience in the industry, having worked on more franchises that you can count, usually in a position seated fairly far into the background. That changed earlier this year when Earthbound was released on the Wii U Virtual Console. While Mother 2 (and the rest of the Mother series) is the brainchild of Shigesato Itoi, a lot of the particulars of Earthbound (Mother 2's localized name) came from Marcus (like the Eraser Eraser). If you haven't played Eathbound, it's not likely that you will be to deduce what I'm talking about, but rest assured that Marcus had a lot to do with making the Earthbound the beloved classic that it is today.

We'll be talking about how he got started in the industry, what it's been like to witness the rise, fall, and rebirth of Earthbound's prominence in gaming culture, all the other game's he's worked on, the challenge of translating the prose and comedy of someone as idiosyncratic as Itoi, what he'd like to see happen with the Mother series, his new projects, and anything else that comes up. Tune it at 1pm PSt/4pm EST for the whole show!

Nintendo apologizes for network outage over the holidays

Posted: 29 Dec 2013 04:00 AM PST

Nintendo issued an apology late yesterday evening for the recent series of network outages. The company explains the instability was caused by a "one-time surge in demand" over the holidays.

The online services initially buckled on Christmas day, largely due to an "influx of new Nintendo Network accounts," existing ones being linked with Nintendo 3DS systems, and record numbers of users attempting to access the eShop simultaneously.

Since then, Nintendo has been working around the clock to restore the service. The Nintendo 3DS eShop was taken offline yesterday for 12 hours, starting at 4pm ET, to perform maintenance. Now, at long last, the store is once again online on all systems

Nintendo doesn't expect any further outages, but promises to closely monitor the situation. More information on the delayed Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter applications will be revealed soon.

If there's one positive takeaway from all this, it's that at least people seem to know that their consoles can go online.
