Chaos;Child is the next game in the Steins;Gate series Posted: 02 Dec 2013 03:00 PM PST Leave it to Japanese titling conventions to confuse. I know Steins;Gate as the anime with the weird semicolon that a lot of people say sucks for the first few hours of episodes and then suddenly start talking about how great it is. It's like Final Fantasy XIII, I guess. Apparently, it was a visual novel before an anime, and part of a series that includes other visual novels with semi-colons in the title, the next of which is Chaos;Child, which is set to release in Japan in 2014 and has a more direct tie to predecessor Chaos;Head. The more you know! Chaos;Child is the next game in Steins;Gate series, developers give initial details [VG24/7]

Minimalistic RTS Rymdkapsel headed to PC in January Posted: 02 Dec 2013 02:00 PM PST Rymdkapsel is one of those names that stands out but, at the same time, I can never seem to remember it well enough to spell the word correctly mere moments after I turn my attention elsewhere. A fair amount of people were curious enough to give the strategy game a download -- 200,000 units of the mobile version have been sold -- and now it's coming to PC with extras. The Steam (Windows, Mac, Linux) and DRM-free release is planned for January and features additional game modes, four more monoliths, and new missions. The soundtrack, it's also worth mentioning, will be extended with two new songs. I imagine this'll be quite easy on the eyes in high definition on a big screen given the art direction. If you're not fixated on playing the PC version specifically, know that Rymdkapsel can be downloaded for free on PlayStation Vita or nearly free as part of an Android Humble Bundle.

Gran Turismo 6: Best racing game commercial ever Posted: 02 Dec 2013 01:02 PM PST I'd like to be in a commercial like this. When I play a racing game I AM this guy. Gran Turismo 6 is going to be so good. Read more... |
Dragon Quest VIII the latest Square game going mobile Posted: 02 Dec 2013 01:00 PM PST Dragon Quest VIII is hitting the mobile market in Japan on December 12, coming to iPad, iPhone, and Android. It looks so weird in vertical format. Square seems to be on a quest to drag all of its existing games onto mobile phones. Meanwhile, I patiently await news on a Final Fantasy XII HD for the PS4/Vita.

Stealthy platformer Master Spy shows promise Posted: 02 Dec 2013 12:00 PM PST TURBOGUN has a "stealth-based precision platformer" up on Steam Greenlight called Master Spy that's looking for approval, but more importantly, there's a free in-browser demo ahead of a full release in 2014. You should try it out if words like "precision" don't sound overly frightening in the context of platform games centered around not being seen. Failure is practically inevitable here. The game is broken down into individual rooms, most of which seem to be more about executing your plan of attack than actually solving the "puzzle" of how to traverse the environment safely and swiftly. Even with a cloaking suit, not getting caught is easier said than done. Even though I tend to be fairly generous on Greenlight, I'm that much more likely to give a thumbs up when there's a playable build available and while Master Spy's trial isn't too extensive, it made enough of an impression on me to write this post. The GIFs helped too, if I'm being frank. [Via Rock, Paper, Shotgun] Read more... |
Have a flood of screens from PS4 SRPG Natural Doctrine Posted: 02 Dec 2013 11:30 AM PST Kadokawa Games (publisher of recent Grasshopper games Lollipop Chainsaw and Killer is Dead) has a new strategy RPG from Patapon director Atsushi Ii coming to PS3, PS Vita, and PS4. Though no Western release has been announced, Natural Doctrine is hitting Japan February 22. This is both the Japanese PS4 launch date and increasingly nearer as time does that thing where it moves at a constant rate, but feels like it's moving too quickly. "Can you believe it's already December?" the Facebook posts read. Supplementing the trailer from a couple months ago, we finally have a flood of screenshots, which raises more questions than provides answers. We knew Natural Doctrine would eschew grids, but I expected a free-moving style similar to Valkyria Chronicles, rather than these portioned red and blue segments. I'm really curious how that's going to work. It looks different, for sure. Also a little bland and ugly, but hopefully playing on the Vita will eliminate some of that. Also might start calling it Natty D. Read more... |
Watch Charlie Brooker talk Jon Snow through games Posted: 02 Dec 2013 11:00 AM PST Yesterday I posted on why you should all watch Charlie Brooker's How Videogames Changed the World. Realizing that it might be hard to watch if you're outside the UK, it's worth sharing this clip from Channel 4 News, where Brooker talks videogames with the fairly hapless Jon Snow. After being none to impressed with the latest Call of Duty title, the more approachable LEGO Marvel Super Heroes proves just as challenging. Yes, that's right friends outside the UK; for as long as I can remember the main anchor on Channel 4 news has been Jon Snow. Now you know why I find all those Game of Thrones memes funny, but not in that way.

Vita launch title Escape Plan hitting PS4 this week Posted: 02 Dec 2013 10:30 AM PST The neat, stylish, slightly problematic Vita launch game Escape Plan is coming to PS4 this week. I certainly wasn't escape planning for that. It will be crossbuy, so if you own the original, you can fool around with it on PS4 for no extra charge. I'm rather curious how the game, which purely makes use of the Vita's extraneous functions (front and rear touch, etc), will handle on PS4. Will it (esc)ape these input methods on the DS4, or use traditional controls? Two PS3 titles are also making their way to Vita this week. Pretty, grind heavy Rainbow Moon might just work better on a handheld than a console. Meanwhile, the super zany, recently released Stick It to the Man!, which reviewer Ian Bonds loved, is coming to Vita as well. Tiny Brains is coming to PS4 if you need a fun couch co-op title. You can use the Vita as a controller to account for your presumed lack of four DualShock 4s. December 6 is Gran Turismo 6 day, of course. Very Quick Video Tips: Super Mario 3D World Posted: 02 Dec 2013 10:15 AM PST The last time we checked in with a video for Super Mario 3D World, we showed you how to access the hidden fifth character. But after some extended play sessions of the game and my subsequent race to obtain a 100% completion rating, I uncovered a few more tips, and decided to share them with the rest of the world. Whether you're on your first or your fourth playthrough of Super Mario 3D World, there's a lot of depth here. It goes without saying that there are spoilers for the last world and the identity of the secret character. Enjoy!

10 videogame characters who do not give a f*ck Posted: 02 Dec 2013 10:00 AM PST [Dtoid community blogger AboveUp gave just enough f*cks to write this blog... and that's about it. WARNING: There are a lot of naughty words in this post. You've been f*ckin' warned! --Mr Andy Dixon] Videogame characters get tasked with the most impossible of missions all the time. Beating up entire cities, fighting swarms upon swarms of monsters, singlehandedly winning wars against the worst of odds. A normal person would crack under these circumstances. Videogame characters don't though. They don't even care. When sh*t hits the fan, they don't give a f*ck and just do what they have to do. Whatever the f*ck that even means. Read more... |
Germany's PS4 launch was dangerous chaos Posted: 02 Dec 2013 09:45 AM PST Clearly PS4 lust has been germinating in the country for some time, because Germans went crazy for the PS4 launch last week. It's like store owners were poking them with electric cattle prods outside the gates as if they were rodeo bulls. Germany people were trampled in the fray. Of course, it might be germane to mention this still has little on Black Friday. Check out this depressing Black Friday Death/Injury Count.

Live show: Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Posted: 02 Dec 2013 09:30 AM PST [Mash Tactics airs Monday through Friday at 4p.m. Pacific on Dtoid.TV. Watch Rick 'King Foom' Olson play a variety of games, each day with its own theme. With a heavy focus on community and viewer interaction, you can be as much a part of the show as anything else.] You might remember that when I first started at the live channel, each day of the week had a certain theme to it, which people seemed to like quite a bit, and I had fun putting together. Well, things kind of fell apart there for a while, but in an effort to make each day feel like its own unique show, I'm bringing them back. This doesn't mean that I'm always bound to theme days however, as big new releases, special events, and interviews will still take priority, but this format gives me some framework to plan around, and will hopefully be something viewers look forward to. To start, each and every Monday on Mash Tactics I'll be diving into bargain bins, and scouring the interwebs to bring you the finest in budget gaming. Be the games old or new, the mission is to stay under ten dollars, and to let you guys know where and how you can get it for that price should you be interested. Tonight I'll be showcasing Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: Elements. I used to absolutely LOVE this game, and in my opinion I think it still stands out as one of the best examples of first-person melee combat around. If you missed out on this adventure when it was released, come by the show, check it out, then go buy it for dirt cheap! QotD: What clever theme name can you think of for these 'bargain bin' Mondays? Review: Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage Posted: 02 Dec 2013 09:00 AM PST Through the course of eight stages, Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage tells the story of two swordsmen, Soul and Shang. Recent recruits of an assassin order known as "Cabal," they seek answers to the mystery of their disappeared mentor, Jade, lost on a mission against a domineering power in the Martial Realm. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

Xbox won Black Friday, one tracker reports Posted: 02 Dec 2013 08:45 AM PST The Xbox One led Black Friday sales at major retailers, including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, GameStop, and RadioShack, according to Info Scout. Xbox One accounted for 31% of console sales. Surprisingly, the 360 came in second, accounting for 30%, while the PS3 and PS4 each pulled 15%. We don't talk about Wii U sales. Of course, this is thought to stem from limited PS4 availability more than anything. As we know, Sony isn't hurting. In its UK release's first 48 hours alone, the PS4 outsold the Xbox One's total sales by 100,000 units. It's also worth noting that among InfoScout's 102,000 Black Friday receipts, the data comes from the "slightly over 1,500" receipts that included console or game sales. It could be a nice representative sample size, but it's not hard numbers. Call of Duty: Ghosts led software sales, followed by the money printing Disney Infinity and Sjylanders: Swap Force. I'm curious to see if the tepid response to Call of Duty: Ghosts might finally lead to a drop in series sales. There hasn't been an indication of that thus far, though. Perhaps those feeling burnt will be wary plunking down cash for the next outing? Read more... |
Huge News of the Week: Next-Gen Naughtiness and More Posted: 02 Dec 2013 08:30 AM PST It's time for the second episode of Destructoid Huge News of the Week EVER! It's pretty exciting. Who was your favorite new videogame character this year? Posted: 02 Dec 2013 08:00 AM PST [All week long we're going to be asking for your thoughts on certain topics related to the year in gaming. Here's the first!] 2013 was absolutely ripe with juicy new characters in the realm of gaming. Badass '80s action heroes, hilarious narrators, endearing psychopaths, robot dogs, annoyingly philosophical trans-dimensional twins, ass-kicking little girls, and a little dude with a lamp hanging from his nose barely scratch the surface as to the eclectic selection or protagonists and NPCs on display this year. My personal favorite has to be Rex Colt from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. His cheesy dialog and banter was straight out of the best (worst?) '80s action movies, and was a far cry (HAR HAR) from the usual FPS protagonist. What about you? Share your thoughts and stories in the comments below! Or, if you find yourself getting long-winded, write a blog! (Be sure to share the link below.) We'll be pulling in quotes from the community for a special recap post later this week, so take some time to think about your responses. Have fun!

Cranky Kong might be the fourth Tropical Freeze character Posted: 02 Dec 2013 07:45 AM PST Although it isn't confirmed, if Cranky Kong is going to be the fourth final character for Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Nintendo isn't doing anything to hide that fact -- at least, in Europe they aren't. The European site Nintendo Town has uncovered an updated Amazon Italy listing for Tropical Freeze, and it very clearly depicts the crotchety old kong right on the box next to his co-stars Donkey, Diddy, and Dixie. Whatever the case may be, Tropical Freeze is expected to be released in a few months, so we'll find out soon enough. As a series fan, I just hope the fourth character brings something new to the table. La jaquette EUR officielle de Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze sur Wii U [Nintendo Town] Read more... |
San Francisco man shot and killed attempting to sell PS4 Posted: 02 Dec 2013 07:30 AM PST These are the worst stories that pop up around launches of big ticket technologies. A San Francisco man arranged through the internet to sell his PlayStation 4. He was robbed and fatally shot Sunday afternoon in San Francisco's Bayview District, according to the San Jose Mercury News. The victim was a man in his early 20's. He was shot multiple times and later died at San Francisco General Hospital. According to KPIX-5's Brian Dinsmore, SFPD has announced a suspect is in custody. An early look at GTA Online's content creator Posted: 02 Dec 2013 07:15 AM PST The person responsible for leaking those Grand Theft Auto V audio files that hint at upcoming DLC is back with an early video demonstration of GTA Online's content creator. Like the aforementioned files, the creation system was also hiding in the game files. This isn't the newest version of the editor -- and it only supports the creation of races and deathmatches -- but it's interesting to see how this will seemingly work once it's ready for the general public. Funmw2 has a few other videos, viewable below. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to use the creator myself before, and now I'm certain. I'll leave that to more talented (and committed) players. Impressions: Disney Infinity Frozen Toy Box Set Posted: 02 Dec 2013 07:00 AM PST As you may have noticed, Disney Infinity has been slowly rolling out some add-on options for the core game, and not all of them are created equal. Some involve a full-on story mode unique to a Disney IP, some are character packs, and others are just singular characters. Although the IPs presented in said add-ons tend to skew towards contemporary films, the Frozen Toy Box Pack is a decent compromise for those of you who want more than just a simple character pack. Super Hexagon ported to Commodore 64 Posted: 02 Dec 2013 06:30 AM PST Paul Koller and Mikkel Hastrup, responsible for the Commodore 64 port of Super Crate Box (dubbed Super Bread Box), are back at it again with their entry to the 2013 RGCD C64 Cartridge Development Competition, Micro Hexagon. It is, as you probably guessed, a port of Terry Cavanaugh's sensational Super Hexagon, and available for free with the other fourteen entries made in the event. After watching this video, I fired up the old emulator and gave it a spin for myself and I'm pretty impressed. It's as quick and tense as the original, just with chunky pixels.

PS4 Gaikai streaming expected to launch in Q3 2014 Posted: 02 Dec 2013 06:15 AM PST Backwards compatibility may not matter very much to most consumers, but to people like me who have extensive libraries and only so much physical space in our media centers, support for older software is of great importance. With PlayStation 4, Sony will be using the cloud service Gaikai sometime in 2014 to provide backwards compatibility. According to Eurogamer, sources expect Sony to kick off the service in Q3 2014 in North America and 2015 in Europe. "We're on track to have a commercial service up and running in the US first within 2014," SCEI president Andrew House told the outlet. "But what's important is to understand the full scope of what we're trying to achieve and why we felt the Gaikai acquisition was important. Our goal is to be able to have a new form of game distribution streamed from the server side, initially to PS4 consoles then gradually moving that out to Vita. But eventually, the endgame is to have this available on a multitude of network-connected devices, essentially delivering a console-quality gaming experience on devices which are not innately capable of doing that." House wouldn't divulge anything specific about Gaikai's European launch, but noted "It's a brand new form of delivery. We need to prove out the technology, which we feel is good at its core, but we place -- as I think is quite right -- a real emphasis on delivering a quality experience for consumers. And that will be dependent to a degree on what the strength of broadband connection is going to be, and what our server deployment and infrastructure looks like. We're hard at work on all of those fronts, but I'm not at a point right now where I can be specific about when our European fans are going to be able to enjoy that." Posted: 02 Dec 2013 06:00 AM PST Desktop Dungeons has been around for a few years in some form or another. The original low-fidelity freeware alpha has been playable since early 2010, and we saw the first bits of the updated beta in 2011, where the project existed for more than two years. Finally, Desktop Dungeons has seen its official full release, and for the most part, it is the same as it ever was. That may sound like a condemnation, but anybody who has experience with Desktop Dungeons knows it isn't. Being the same core game with a few added frills is the best thing it could have done. The Witness might receive Oculus Rift support Posted: 02 Dec 2013 05:45 AM PST The Witness, Jonathan Blow's follow-up to the universally well-received Braid, is definitely a highly anticipated game. It's been in the works for quite some time, and the hype surrounding it has sort of just kept building. It will be a PlayStation 4 timed-exclusive, and as such, it might be the guinea pig for some new technology on the Sony platform. Blow took to The Witness' website recently to post a couple of teaser images under the caption "What could it mean??" The look of the photos lends itself to the theory that the game might have Oculus Rift or some sort of virtual reality peripheral support. Further backing that thought process is the fact that Blow named the files "vr1" and "vr2". The Witness seems like it would be a great title for Sony to test the waters for a virtual reality headset. If these rumors are true, The Witness might end up as an even more remarkable and monumental title than it was already shaping up to be. What could it mean?? Hardline: The debut of our news-focused video podcast Posted: 02 Dec 2013 05:30 AM PST It's been an embarrassingly long time coming, but we finally managed to pull ourselves together for a news-focused podcast. We're calling it Hardline. (That sounds vaguely newsy, right?) To be clear, this is not a replacement for Podtoid -- expect news on its return in the near future. Instead, Hardline is a casual hour-long discussion of the week's gaming news, recorded live on Wednesdays at 11:00am Pacific via Twitch and released after the fact on YouTube and on iTunes in an audio-only version. If you were a fan of Office Chat on YouTube, it's like that, only longer, and we'll be chatting with Destructoid Huge members. The regular cast is going to be Hamza Aziz, Dale North, Steven Hansen, and myself, though travel and otherwise busy schedules will have us rotating in other familiar faces. Special thanks also goes out to Bill Zoeker, our producer. Thanksgiving threw off our production schedule, so please note that this debut episode covers last week's stuff. But there's plenty of weird tangents as well as discussion of our Game of the Year deliberations in there too. We also have a bonus pilot episode in the feeds below. For the audio-only debut episode of Hardline, you can subscribe on iTunes and RSS, or download directly.

Electronic Arts files trademarks related to Desert Strike Posted: 02 Dec 2013 05:15 AM PST In 1992, Electronic Arts released Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf -- a shoot 'em up that had the player control an Apache helicopter. The game was a commercial success and is fondly remembered by many. As game publishers tend to do when a game is fondly remembered, Desert Strike may be making a comeback. Last week, EA filed two trademarks related to the Desert Strike name. EA hasn't weighed in on the IP in any other capacity, so we'll have to wait to find out what its plans are. However, filing the appropriate paperwork with the United States Patent and Trademark Office is usually step number one. It's certainly not locked in yet, but it looks like EA might take the fight back to the desert. While conventional logic says any new Desert Strike title or remake will probably feature more helicopter piloting, I'm holding out for a game about meticulously punching sand. Gears of War is free on Xbox Live right now Posted: 02 Dec 2013 05:00 AM PST I dislike being ungrateful for free games, but I have a limit and it's Gears of War. Epic Games' 2006 cover-based shooter is free for Xbox Live Gold members now through December 15. The game inexplicably goes for $19.99 on the service normally, though one could easily find a pre-owned copy for a few dollars, I'm sure. And I don't intend to knock Gears of War itself here, as I quite like the series. It's just that there's a time and place for everything and including this as one of the two Games for Gold titles in December looks silly. At least the next game, Shoot Many Robots, is one a significant amount of people haven't played yet. Look for that to go free on December 16. It's pretty good!

The new Mario & Luigi 3DS XL is real classy Posted: 02 Dec 2013 04:45 AM PST The Mario & Luigi: Dream Team 3DS XL we caught a glimpse of in an advert has been announced by Nintendo. Priced at $199.99, this rather lovely system comes with the game pre-installed. In continuing its Year of Luigi obsession, Nintendo has begun selling this limited-edition 3DS XL as of today, "Cyber Monday of Luigi." As a reminder, there are a couple other special systems available as we inch into the holiday season including the cobalt blue 3DS with Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for $169.99, and that gorgeous The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds 3DS XL for $219.99. The Keymander lets you use a mouse and keyboard on PS3 Posted: 02 Dec 2013 04:30 AM PST When the PlayStation 3 was first released, keyboard and mouse functionality was one of the biggest draws for me as a PC gamer, especially with friends who refused to play on any platform other than consoles. But the dream was eventually squashed, as a scant few titles (such as Unreal Tournament 3 and CS: GO) actually supported the control scheme natively. As a result, hardware that emulates the analog and digital functions of the DualShock 3 was created to fill a niche. I recently got my hands on one of those devices and put it to the test. New Warhammer 40K game is going to be a MOBA Posted: 02 Dec 2013 04:15 AM PST A new Warhammer 40K game is being made, according to Develop. The game is called Storm of Vengeance, and it will be a "lane strategy" game for mobile and PC. Lane Strategy? Really? Does everyone need their own term for a League of Legends type game? Can't we just stick with MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)? Eutechnyx, the studio behind Storm of Vengeance, is described as a mobile company, which doesn't sound that exciting, but if you look up the company it's been around for awhile. It started back in 1987 as Zeppelin games, and made classics like Edd the Duck! and International Soccer. Under the current name of Eutechnyx they created Big Mutha Truckers and NASCAR '14. They might might an OK game, which I am going to be hopefully wishing for. Eutechnyx working on Warhammer 40,000 mobile game [Develop]

Call of Duty: Online throws robot zombies into the mix Posted: 02 Dec 2013 03:45 AM PST Call of Duty: Online -- the Chinese-exclusive, free-to-play, online only title -- has a new trailer. The fact that it exists isn't necessarily significant; the fact that it contains menacing robot zombies is most certainly significant. Let's be real here, Activision -- robot zombie is a huge contradiction of terms. Zombies are animated corpses, and robots were never alive to begin with. That's before we touch on the robot zombie dog that I'm pretty sure I saw. At least these hulking monstrosities will provide a nice change of pace from shooting dude number 8,340,561 in the soft fleshy part right between his eyes.

Total War: Rome II is getting an expansion soon Posted: 02 Dec 2013 03:30 AM PST Total War: Rome II will be getting an expansion, called Caesar in Gaul. This new campaign will focus around Caesar and the Gallic War, and the campaign will feature seasons with weather effects. New units will be added to the game, as well as the Nervii, Boii, and the Galatian factions. This expansion will be out soon, on December 12th, for $14.99. Usually the expansions for Total War games have the best campaigns -- at least that's how it always seems to me -- so I am pleased to hear this. Read more... |
Team Meat's Mew-Genics will have a focus on hoarding Posted: 02 Dec 2013 03:00 AM PST New information has arisen for Team Meat's upcoming title, Mew-Genics, and it appears as if the game will focus on hoarding in some respect. Creator Edmund McMillen recently took to his blog to proclaim that the process for creating Mew-Genics has been "odd," noting that multiple mechanics are starting to creep into the design process. The newest feature is "furniture," which is handled through a store called "Hoarders R' Us." It's been described as Animal Crossing-like in nature, but with its own "meaningful" impact in tow. Nearly every item will have some sort of property to go along with it, such as HP raising food, time-changing clocks, and so on. By the time the game goes live, it'll feature over 750 pieces of furniture, with over 1,500 items. Let the collect-athon begin! Its Caturday, time to talk about hoarding! [Team Meat]

Steam is releasing the Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod Posted: 02 Dec 2013 02:30 AM PST The Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod has been around for a while on the PC, but it's going to be getting an official release on Steam. This means you will be able to download the mod and server right from Steam, and you'll be able to join in on your friend's games. There will be a final beta test on December 7th, and beta keys are available. The mod should be released by the end of the year, so even if you don't get in on the beta you'll still be able to play Just Cause 2 with your friends soon. Hopefully it hits a good price on a Steam sale. Just Cause 2 multiplayer mod to release on Steam [VG24/7]

That Batman: Arkham Origins ninja DLC has a new trailer Posted: 02 Dec 2013 02:00 AM PST As you may have heard, Batman: Arkham Origins is getting psuedo-story related DLC. It'll hit the PS3, 360, PC and Wii U tomorrow, and will focus on Bruce Wayne's pre-Batman training. You'll net a new mini challenge oriented campaign for your troubles (over four new maps), and two skins -- both Bruce Wayne related. The challenges take place in the Paektu-San Mountains of North Korea, and will take you through a bamboo forest and a monastery. If you already bought the Season Pass, you can just pick this up tomorrow.

Steam passes 7 million concurrent users Posted: 02 Dec 2013 01:30 AM PST Steam, which has 65 million registered users, just had 7 million people online at the same time. That's a lot of people at once. That's like if everyone in Hong Kong, or most of the people in New York City, all got onto Steam at once to play games. That would be one crazy LAN party. Last year, Steam had a high of 6 million concurrent users, so it has grown by 1 million in a year, or about 16%. That's a lot of growth in a year. Almost a half-million of those people are all playing DOTA 2. Steam breaks 7 million concurrent users; more than a million more than this time last year [PCGamesN]

God of War: Ascension director joins Crytek Posted: 02 Dec 2013 01:00 AM PST Todd Papy, as some may recall, recently left his position at SCEA Santa Monica (where he worked as game director for God of War: Ascension) without revealing what he'd be up to next, except that he'd be relocating to Germany. Well, a month later, it's been confirmed that Papy is working over at Crytek as game directer on an "unannounced project" after he updated both his Twitter and LinkedIn profiles with the new information, promising more details "...in the future." Anyone have an idea of what this mysterious project could be? Todd Papy [Twitter via NeoGAF]

Peggle 2 will allegedly hit the Xbox One on December 9th Posted: 02 Dec 2013 12:00 AM PST When the Xbox One launch lineup was announced, one title stuck out the most -- Peggle 2. I was a huge fan of the original and the pseudo-expansion Peggle Nights, so I couldn't wait to see what PopCap had in store next. Sadly, it was delayed until after launch to a "TBA 2013" placeholder. But according to VentureBeat, Peggle 2 is on track for a December 9th Xbox One release date -- the only thing is, that's less than a week away, and PopCap still hasn't announced anything. Considering this is a first-hand source I assume PopCap is waiting for the right time to make an explosive surprise announcement, but it appears as if the cat is out of the bag. The PlayStation 4 outsold the Wii U in 48 hours in the UK Posted: 01 Dec 2013 11:00 PM PST I really enjoy my Wii U. At this point it has a solid library of titles to choose from, and I tend to play it rather consistently -- I also would consider the GamePad to be my favorite control method out of all the current options. But every so often, I'm reminded at just how poorly the console is doing worldwide, and the latest wake-up call is a recent UK sales comparison. According to MCVUK, the PlayStation 4 has sold over 250k units in the UK within the first 48 hours of launch -- that makes it the fastest selling console in UK history, and it means that it has already surpassed the Wii U's UK lifetime sales. Things aren't looking great for Nintendo in terms of Microsoft either, as the Xbox One has reportedly sold 150,000 units in the UK -- which would put it right on the brink of surpassing the Wii U in less than a month of sales. Maybe Nintendo can turn it around next year with Mario Kart and a few other flagship franchises like Smash Bros., and blow us away at E3. At this rate, they'll need to -- but at least they have the smash-hit 3DS to fall back on. PS4 has sold over 250k PS4s in the UK [MCV]
