Rascal Riders brings motorcycle combat to all platforms

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 03:00 PM PST

If I was on the road and a person on a motorbike screamed past me wielding a machete, "rascal" isn't the term I'd use for them. Rascal Riders however is a new project from Polish developers Cameleon Labs that brings the kind of motorbike combat of Road Rash into a futuristic deathsport. Considering the last Twisted Metal game seemed to have tolled the death bell for vehicular combat games, I'm excited to see a title that's looking to deliver some arcade carnage.

Whilst this footage is from a pre-alpha build of the game, Rascal Riders looks like a really fast game. What's interesting is that along with single-player, Cameleon is looking to build a free-to-play multiplayer mode as well.

Even more ambitious is the attempt to make the game totally cross-platform, meaning PC players will be able to fight against gamers playing Rascal Riders on their Android phone. It's a big task and Cameleon Labs has a long way to go on its Indiegogo crowdfunding attempt but this is an interesting project, not like one I've seen on crowdfunding for a while.

Japan has a Dark Souls-themed cafe

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 02:00 PM PST

I've always fancied going to a gaming-themed eatery but there's a shocking lack of them where I live (wonder if I can get planning permission to build my own Deus Ex pub?). That's no issue in Japan, where Siliconera is reporting that From Software has converted a cafe in Tokyo to serve Dark Souls-themed cuisine for a limited time.

Diners can enjoy pasta dishes like Successors of the Sun and drink from Estus Flasks which is pretty cool. I think From Software is missing a trick here; if you want a really authentic experience the studio should have diners gather round bonfires to eat and then a dragon will appear out of nowhere and burn them to a crisp. No one values authenticity anymore.

Super Crate Box is free to download for PS Vita

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 01:00 PM PST

The latest pair of PlayStation Mobile games to go free as part of Sony's Festive Giveaway are Fuel Tiracas -- which is reaction game described as a mix of Whack-A-Mole, Simon Says, and spinning plates (how does that even work?) -- Vlambeer's hit Super Crate Box.

Chances are you've played it by now as it's been a freeware release for so long on PC, but this specific handheld version of the tightly-designed arcade title is worth getting. I say that as someone who doesn't dislike Super Crate Box on iPhone. It's just not the same, though.

Venture to the PS Mobile section of the PS Vita store to find these free games, or download them for your PlayStation-certified mobile device of choice.

If you asked me earlier this week I would have told you that Samurai Gunn was going to be awesome whenever it managed to come out. Well, looks like Beau Blythe tricked us all and stealth launched the game yesterday and oh my god is it great. You know what that means, Phil and I are going to duel to the death for your amusement! It all goes down on Dtoid.tv tonight at 8pm pst!

Sonic 2 mobile remaster has long-lost Hidden Palace Zone

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 12:00 PM PST

A remastered Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is launching on Android on December 13. It comes from the team that created the engine used in the excellent Sonic CD port from a few years ago. Even cooler, it will include a finished, playable version of the scrapped Hidden Palace Zone, the remnants of which originally appeared as downloadable prototypes. Now we get the full thing.

The iOS version of the game is also getting a free update that replaces the original port and includes the Hidden Palace Zone.

Certainly something I'd like to see and play on a device that isn't a mobile phone. I guess the best option is controller attachments, unless these somehow play well with touch controls.

'Wraith-Night' update revealed for Dota 2

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 11:30 AM PST

The Dota 2 blog has updated again today, detailing what is in the upcoming patch, which we also now know will be tomorrow. Skeleton King is becoming the Wraith King and will be the focus of what seems to be a horde-mode variant, which involves protecting the Wraith King from enemies until he can be "reborn in a form more imperishable than bone." Naturally, there will be items gained from playing, which involves getting Phantom Fragments and redeeming them for reliquaries.

Also included in tomorrow's update will be Legion Commander, a new Hero to Dota 2, a "newly crafted path for beginners," ranked matchmaking, and of course new hats. Oh! And the 6.79c gameplay changes, which include an increase to the cost of Hand of Midas, Slark and Huskar being added to Captain's Mode, and giving people an abandonment when a party member abandons a game. If I were you I'd make sure your Internet is pretty steady before playing with buddies from now on.

You can check out all the new changes in the blog post.

This week's Xbox One system update detailed

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 11:00 AM PST

Microsoft is rolling out a system update this week for Xbox One which covers a number of issues relating to SmartGlass, multiplayer, notifications, wireless, and dashboard performance some users are experiencing. Console owners who have their system in the standby "Instant On" mode will have already been through the process, while everyone else will be prompted to update after Thursday, December 12 at 2:00am Pacific.

  • Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
  • Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
  • Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
  • Addresses dashboard performance for some users
  • Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
  • Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users

Xbox Live's Major Nelson says there's plenty more where this came from next year based on feedback provided by the Xbox One community. A quick scroll to the comments section of the announcement blog and, yep, there's serious work to be done.

John Carmack: 360 and PS3 were 'far from tapped out'

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 10:00 AM PST

John Carmack may have left id to join the team making the Ocuclus Rift full time but he still has plenty to say on the console market, both the previous generation and the hot new PS4 and Xbox One. Whilst one might think Carmack might be the type of guy to always be pushing for newer hardware, he feels that the power of the previous consoles weren't full utilized.

"There's so much you can still do on the previous console generation," Carmack said. "The 360 and PS3 are far from tapped out in terms of what a developer could do with them, but the whole world's gonna move over towards next-gen and high-end PCs and all these other things." It does surprise me to think that those consoles weren't straining towards the end of their long lifecycles but Carmack seems to feel that you can only really move on from a generation once you've full mastered the previous one.

One thing Carmack wasn't fond of during the last generation of consoles was the long development cycles and id's perfectionism which led to the studio only shipping two big games in the generation. "...we fell into was the longer and longer times between releases," John concludes. "If I could go back in time and change one thing along the trajectory of id Software, it would be, do more things more often."

Considering id's last two games were Quake IV and RAGE, it would have been interesting to see if id could have made smaller, download-only games as a way to test its technology whilst still being in the habit of putting out releases.

Law firm launches investigation into EA and Battlefield 4

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 09:45 AM PST

Were you injured in an accident on the job? Did Battlefield 4 give you incontinence, space measles, or sinusoidal finger? Then you might have a case.

Law firm Holzer Holzer and Fistel, LLC is investigating whether EA claims from June 24, 2013 to December 4, 2013, "regarding the development and sales" of Battlefield 4 and its "impact on EA’s revenue and projects moving forward," "complied with the federal securities laws."

The firm is looking to see if EA's claims about the game during that six month period misrepresent its status in light of major quality issues on release that have necessitated shelving planned DLC in favor of applying patches. Those who purchased stock in the company during the period and suffered losses are encouraged to contact attorney Marshall P. Dees, Esq. at mdees@holzerlaw.com.

Anyone banking on that possible seven cent class action settlement check?

Live show: Man vs. Wild

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 09:30 AM PST

[Mash Tactics airs Monday through Friday at 4p.m. Pacific on Dtoid.TV. Watch Rick 'King Foom' Olson play a variety of games, each day with its own theme. With a heavy focus on community and viewer interaction, you can be as much a part of the show as anything else.]

Oh WTF Wednesdays, how I love and loathe you so much. On one hand, we get to check out some of the most crazy and bizarre titles known to man, and on the other hand, we get to check out a lot of the most broken and crappy games out there. Well, I'm not entirely sure yet, but I have a feeling tonight's game may fall into the latter category as we'll be diving into Man vs. Wild.

Yes, you heard correctly, this evening on Mash Tactics we'll be getting our Bear Grylls on, in an attempt to, um, well, I would assume survive, using just our wits and the environment around us. I honestly have no idea what to expect here, but the back of the game case mentions fending off sharks, and sleeping in a hollowed out camel, so, at least there's that to look forward to.

QotD: Do you think you'd be able to survive off the land if needed to?

Use a DualShock, mouse/keyboard, and more on Xbox One

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 09:15 AM PST

Thanks to the ChronusMAX, Xbox One owners aren't limited to the console's default controller. As the video shows, you can get DualShock 3, DualShock 4, Wii U Pro Controllers, PS3/360 fight sticks, and even mouse and keyboard support on your Xbox One with this controller adapter. And, really, who wouldn't want to use a DualShock 3 forever?

The Xbox One controller is pretty sweet, but not having to retire your expensive fight stick because of incompatibility, or being able to use a mouse and keyboard on the console, is a pretty neat capability. Though the controller adapter might have latency issues, which could hurt its usefulness with fight sticks. Go buy a Killer Instinct fight stick, I guess?

How about a hack for these next gen systems so we can use existing headsets?

How the Saints Save Christmas out today

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 09:00 AM PST

The previously announced holiday add-on content for Saints Row IV, How the Saints Save Christmas, has been released along with this delightful trailer which explains the premise. Simply put, Santa Claus is apparently some kind of horrific monstrosity who plans to put all of the universe on the naughty list and only the Saints can stop him.

For my money, the best "evil Santa" in entertainment is the one found in Futurama, but I'm open to the possibility of that interpretation being unseated. Those antlers are pretty horrifying.

Digital Storm's Valve-approved Steam Machine teased

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 08:15 AM PST

Digital Storm says that they have the first liquid-cooled Valve-approved Steam Machine ready to show at CES next month. The PC maker says that they're not trying to compete with console pricing at all, and are going after graphical power instead. Their new small form factor system will have both Steam and Windows on-board, will have up to a 700W power supply, and, again, liquid cooling.

The starting price? $1,469. They offer configurations that would handle a GTX Titan, they say.

This teaser page will let you sign up to be among the first to hear about their system as we come closer to its Jan. 6 launch.

I have an appointment scheduled for next month as I'm looking forward to seeing this thing in person.

Next Fallout reportedly set in Boston

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 08:05 AM PST

As disappointing as it was to see the survivor2299.com teaser site end up being a hoax, Bethesda making another Fallout game is a matter of when, not if. It's really the time frame we're more concerned about, and based on casting documents obtained by Kotaku, the wait for the next series installment might not be as far off as Bethesda's silence would indicate.

The documents are for a project codenamed "Institute" which detail the game's opening sequence -- narrated by the player character, not Ron Perlman, it would seem -- and the setting: Boston. This would go along with prior rumors about the Commonwealth, which stemmed from Bethesda employees reportedly researching the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for the game. Those rumblings sounded believable then and continue to now.

The Commonwealth, eh? Yeah, I'm into it.

Review: SteelSeries H Wireless Headset

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 08:00 AM PST

Wireless headphones can be pretty expensive, but they can also be pretty damn convenient. Sometimes I don't feel like fumbling with wires, as it helps keep my setup clean, and the ability to wander around within a limited distance helps keep me in the action -- say, while I'm respawning in an FPS and grabbing a quick drink.

Every once in a while you do need to plug them back into something though, especially after some lengthy gaming sessions. The SteelSeries Wireless H does a great job of handling the power issue with two swappable battery packs -- so you're always charging a backup. I wish every wireless headset was this simple to use -- but expect to pay for the convenience.

The Novelist has released on Steam

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 07:30 AM PST

The Novelist, a game where the player assumes the role of a ghost inhabiting a house visited by a struggling writer and his family, has released today on Steam. As with many new releases, it's enjoying a 25% off introductory sale price of $14.99.

I adore the idea behind this. Part stealth game, part life simulator, as the ghost you seek to help the members of the family work through a difficult time but you can only help them if they don't know you're in the house (presumably because they'd flee in terror if they did). If the writing is half as good as that premise, we could have a real winner on our hands.

Twitch grows by 100k, PS4 accounts for 10% of content

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 07:15 AM PST

Console streaming is taking off. Sony certainly made it easy enough with the PS4, despite quality concerns from people worried about that sort of thing.

Twitch has announced a broadcaster growth, "from around 600,000 in October to more than 700,000 in November." It continues, "In addition to more than 100K new broadcasters signing up since the launch of PlayStation 4, PS4 owners make up ten percent of all content on Twitch based on minutes broadcast."

Seems PS4 users are into the new feature, though it will be interesting to see if that percentage dips, holds, or grows after the novelty has worn off. Then again, everyone is looking for their 15 minutes, and PS4 ownership is only going to grow.

You can beat Bravely Default without random encounters

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 06:45 AM PST

And it still took over 20 hours!

Twitter user @dol_goemon, a Dengeki Online staffer, has Bravely Default: For The Sequel, which released in Japan, Europe, and Australia last week -- it's releasing in North America next year. He also finished the game with the newly implemented random encounter slider dialed all the way down to -100%. That is, no random encounters.

He also completed the game (on Easy) without having to engage in the microtransactions that were thrown in to "have as many people possible beat the game."

The Encounter None skill was my favorite part of Final Fantasy VIII's weird, cool gameplay system, so I'm glad to see similar workarounds implemented in more RPGs. Barring a fabulous combat system, grind gets old, and I don't necessarily have the 60-70 hours to drop into a JRPG not named Persona.

Hardline live: What is responsible binging, exactly?

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 06:15 AM PST

We're recording this week's episode of Hardline a tad bit later than normal, so apologies for putting an end to the routine. While I've been unfairly blaming the harsh winter weather for many things lately, that is the actual reason for the delay, I swear. Join me, Dale, Steven, and Conrad on Twitch.tv at 12:30pm Pacific. Hamza should be back from vacation next week.

Scheduled topics this week include Spike's VGX, the game announcements which broke over the weekend -- including the terribly intriguing space exploration title No Man's Sky -- and some light discussion about the worst games or the year and our favorite moments so far.

If you're able to stop by in chat, by all means suggest topics you'd like us to talk about -- we're ready and willing for things to get weird. Otherwise, check back on Friday for the full recording of Hardline to hit iTunes and YouTube. We'll still love you.

Review: Ys: Memories of Celceta

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 06:00 AM PST

It’s strange to think that Ys: Memories of Celceta is actually the fourth iteration of Ys IV. Even weirder, it’s the first time the game has been developed by Nihon Falcom, who was the developer of pretty much every other game in the series. Weirder yet is that this is the first time the game is finally gracing the western world in an official capacity.

As with Falcom’s excellent Ys: The Oath in Felghana that released on PSP in 2010, Memories of Celceta is more than just an upgraded port of an over decade-old Super Nintendo game. Instead, it’s a complete artistic re-envisioning done so to create a more cohesive universe for the franchise.

Not to mention it’s a damn fine reason to dust off your Vita.

It's not too late to put Teslagrad on your radar

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 05:30 AM PST

After coming out of seemingly nowhere to impress us back in May, Rain Games' exploratory puzzle-platformer Teslagrad is nearing its launch on PC, which happens December 13, 2013. The game is hitting Steam, GOG.com, and other digital platforms for $9.99/€8.99/£6.99 and will also see a release on PlayStation 3 and Wii U next year.

There's a lot to love here, with hand-drawn art, boss fights, and a non-existent graphical user interface. As the last of the Teslamancers, you'll explore the Tesla Tower by solving puzzles that revolve around magnetism. A few of the powers are shown here in the trailer and I'm dying to dig into the game and, ideally, beat it in a single sitting to truly appreciate the sense of progression. Depending on the length, that is -- I can't be pulling all-nighters any more.

So, you read Chris Carter's review of Samurai Gunn and you thought to yourself, "Self, that's all well and good, but I want to see what it's like to become embroiled in the chaotic yet precise gameplay described in this review by way of two disorganized people who yell and grunt a lot."

We got your back. And by "we," I mean Jordan and I, as we fire up a few rounds each of deathmatch and survival in Samurai Gunn

Steam Machines shipping to beta testers on Friday

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 04:45 AM PST

300 of Valve's prototype Steam Machines are going out to folks who signed up to participate in the beta. If your reaction to this news is to groan about how you never got an email, worry not -- those haven't gone out yet. Valve will notify the selected beta testers at "about" 2:00pm Pacific today, and those users will get a special badge for their Steam profile.

As part of the beta, testers will get a number of games, including Metro: Last Light, and SteamOS. "We've had to make the difficult decision to limit our beta to the U.S. only, because of regulatory hurdles," writes Valve. "This was not our original plan, and it means we can't collect beta feedback from Steam customers world-wide, which is pretty unfortunate. All things considered, we're sure it was the right decision, because the alternative was to delay the whole beta beyond the point when we'd be able to incorporate any feedback into the 2014 products."

It's worth mentioning that said hurdles won't affect the commercial launch, which we'll hear more about at the Consumer Electronics Show in January. In the mean time, SteamOS will be downloadable for those of us without a beta Steam Machine once those units ship.

Rayman Legends hits PS4, Xbox One in February

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 04:30 AM PST

The previously-announced Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions of Rayman Legends have been dated for February 25, 2014. Ubisoft has also given specifics about what's new. For Xbox, there's the Splinter Ray, Ray Vaas, and Globox Vaas costumes, plus 10 exclusive challenges to unlock "time-limited Achievements." For PS4, the touchpad can be used to scratch those darned Lucky Tickets, and the new costume is Assassin Ray.

More importantly, load times have been reduced. These can be fairly lengthy in the current-gen versions, so that's great to hear. I was late to picking up Rayman Legends, but it's quickly become one of my favorites this year. I'm talking top three, easily. That underwater stealth world -- which sounds like the worst thing ever, but is quite the opposite, somehow -- blew me away.

If you've yet to play the demo and would like to do so quickly, Ubisoft has a streamable in-browser demo that supports Xbox 360 controllers and mouse/keyboard. How fancy! I wasn't even going to acknowledge it, but what's the effing deal with Snoop Lion in this video? Huh?

Review: Samurai Gunn

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 04:00 AM PST

Arena-like games are seeing a resurgence in this era, with titles like Towerfall and Gun Monkeys -- games that take us back to the days where local play reigned supreme, and couch parties were commonplace. They offer up a unique blend of fighting game-esque strategy and platformer grace -- a combination that's pretty rare, even dating back to the retro era.

Samurai Gunn seeks to capture the essence of arena fighting in a rather unique way, as it takes a minimalist approach that favors skill over flash. Despite the lack of online play, I'd say it succeeds in spades.

EVE Online increased incentive to attack Dust 514 players

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 03:15 AM PST

EVE Online has been tweaked a bit to change-up how players interact with Dust 514 players. Dust 514 players used to earn orbital strikes be earning points during their match, but now they have to rely on EVE pilots to decide to do an orbital strike.

Since it will be up to EVE pilots to perform orbital strikes in Dust 514, CCP are increasing the incentive to seek out Dust 514 battles in EVE. EVE players will be given 3,000 loyalty points, which is a lot of currency to spend with your faction. They will also get a killmail for an orbital strike that results in casualties. Killmails are the bragging rights of PvP players in EVE and they are waved around as banners of badassery.

EVE players will also be added to the district chat for any Dust battle they decide to engage in, which will make it easier for players to communicate across games.

Mega Man X & Zero return in Archie's Mega Man #34-35

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 03:00 AM PST

The regular Mega Man Archie comics storyline will continue as planned for the foreseeable future, but Mega Man X and Zero have decided to cut in with their own tale to tell. As the second half of Issues #34 and 35, the "X Factor" story will take place 100 years following the classic timeline, after Dr. Cain discovers the super fighting robot X. Archie has given Destructoid an exclusive look at the two new covers (in the gallery below) for Issue #35, one of which adorns Inafune's favorite creation -- Zero.

Based off of the games alone, the X series is by far the more serious of the two, often dealing with themes such as betrayal, death, and sacrifice. Although I'm grateful that we're getting some sort of continuation of the once great sub-franchise, I sincerely hope that one day we'll finally get some closure on the connection between the classic series and the X games.

If you bought the bundle prior to this and paid more than the average at the time of purchasing (like me), you'll be happy to know that, yes, these games have been added to your download page.

Sonic Lost World gets a Wii U patch to make it easier

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 02:30 AM PST

I never thought there was anything particularly difficult about Sonic Lost World on the Wii U, but apparently some people out there don't agree. As a result, SEGA has rolled out a fan-centric patch that allows you to earn extra lives with every collection of 100 rings, and every "game over" will net you 10 lives instead of five.

You can also control Color Powers with the analog stick and buttons (instead of just the touch screen), which is a welcome change. The patch also fixes a small graphical issue in the Frozen Factory area of the game.

So yeah, not a huge change, but it makes the game a bit easier.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII collector's edition

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 02:15 AM PST

Square Enix has announced a collector's edition of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. It will be available at launch (February 11, 2014) to buyers that order from the Square Enix Online Store. It sounds like it won't be sold anywhere else.

This $89.99 limited edition comes in premium packaging with new artwork. Inside, you'll find an embossed pocket watch and DLC for the Aerith Gainsborough’s “Midgar’s Flower Girl” outfit.

The included 80-page hardcover artbook will feature Tetsuya Nomura's original design work, a forward by art director Isamu, Kamikokuryo, a look at Nova Chrysalia, and even a nostalgia section that features moogles and chocobos.

I WANT THIS.

Xbox One sells more than 2 million units in first 18 days

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 02:05 AM PST

Microsoft sends word that they sold more than 2 million Xbox One consoles in the first 18 days. That's an average of 111,111 units sold a day -- a record for them.

The Xbox One is sold out at most retailers, they say. Amazon's John Love, director of videogames, said that customers were ordering over 1,000 units per minute. Wowzers.

Here are some fun launch stats that Microsoft has calculated since launch:

  • 83 million hours spent on console so far
  • 39 million achievements unlocked
  • over 595 million total Gamerscore achieved

Microsoft says that they're working hard to meet consumer demand for the holiday season.

These are the games that work with iOS MFi controllers

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 02:00 AM PST

With the advent of iOS 7, support for controller add-ons was born -- it just took a while for them to actually come out. They're officially known as MFis (made for iPhone), and they basically allow you to snap your device into them to allow for tactile buttons. Your options are limited for now, as there are only two official controllers on the market -- the MOGA Ace Power, and the Logitech PowerShell, which both retail for $99.99.

I'm currently testing out the PowerShell, but in the meantime below is a non-exhaustive list of all the games that'll work with your shiny new peripheral. If you find any more that indeed support iOS 7 controllers, feel free to list them here. This list is non-exhaustive.

EVE Online adds Twitch integration

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 01:30 AM PST

Joining the ever-growing ranks of games that support Twitch, EVE Online just added in streaming support. Pilots can now activate Twitch streaming right from the Neocom panel by logging into their Twitch account. This functionality is really basic, but CCP are considering adding overlay support and the ability to delay the stream, if people like it and use the streaming feature.

Right now I would advise against using it if you are flying in a ship that you can't afford to replace, because you can guarantee that people will be watching streams to see where easy targets are hiding out. Ideally, an overlay would cover up sensitive information such as your current location, and a delay would prevent other pilots from accurately spying on you. It's cool to see it in there, but it needs a bit features before I will start using it regularly.

The Elder Scrolls Online hits PC/Mac first in April

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 01:00 AM PST

ZeniMax Online Studios has come out with a suitably memorable release date for The Elder Scrolls Online: April 4, 2014 (aka 4.4.14). That's when the massively multiplayer online role-playing game will arrive on PC and Mac -- hopefully without too many launch-window issues. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are coming a bit later in June.

Glad to have this news out of the way, but it's the new trailer I'm more interested in. It features some PvP, which basically amounts to crowds of people wailing on one another and some occasional structural damage. A faction-based approach worked quite well in Guild Wars 2, and I'm keen to experience a similar system in TES Online.

Project Eternity has a name and a gameplay trailer

Posted: 11 Dec 2013 12:30 AM PST

Project Eternity, Obsidian's old-school PC role-playing game that was Kickstarted last year, is now called Pillars of Eternity. Along with getting an actual name, Obsidian released the first gameplay trailer, and opened up a new backer's portal. This portal lets you join the other backers by pledging at least $35 towards development in exchange for a digital copy of the finished game.

Obsidian haven't set an exact date yet, but they are hoping for a release later next year. The game looks absolutely stunning, and it will definitely fill in a space that has been left empty by bigger RPG developers.

Opinion: Sony's Cross-Buy should be the norm

Cross-Buy is a wonderful thing. Whether you're paying it forward purchasing a game that can be redeemed on a future platform years later, or buying something to play it both at home and on the go for one price, it makes the decision to take the plunge so much easier.

Sony doesn't get everything right, but in light of recent events from Nintendo and Microsoft, I feel like they need a special shoutout. In addition to PlayStation Plus, Cross-Buy is one of the best programs the publisher has ever implemented.

Official Nintendo Store is selling refurbished Wiimotes

Posted: 10 Dec 2013 11:30 PM PST

For those of you who somehow don't have a full set of four Wii Remote Plus controllers, Nintendo is selling a refurbished bundle pack of remotes and Nunchuks for $20. As a reminder, said controllers will work on both the Wii and Wii U. You can choose from white, black, and blue.

Keep in mind that pretty much every Wii U game has an alternate control scheme using Wiimotes, so a few wouldn't be a bad investment if you're just rocking a Gamepad.
