Bombernauts is a lovely mix of Smash Bros. and Bomberman

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 03:00 PM PST

What a pleasant little surprise Bombernauts is turning out to be. It's an online multiplayer game in which players try to knock one another off a platform that can be chipped away with bombs. So many bombs. In fact, there isn't a limit to how many can be thrown. The part I most like the sound of is that, once slain, you become a ghost that can throw ghost bombs and, after a successful kill, you'll return to the battlefield as a zombie. Last one standing wins.

Bombernauts is being made by Tyler Glaiel of Closure fame, if you can believe it. The team also has artist Sven Ruthner and composer Danny Baranowsky on board (that I can believe). Although online multiplayer is the focus, local play is on the team's to-do list, as are custom game modes and power-up customization "similar to the Super Smash Bros. series."

If you're liking the sound of this all, the game will be released on Steam next year.

StarCraft II World Championship Series plans out 2014

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 02:30 PM PST

The World Championship Series, one of the biggest yearly StarCraft II tournaments around, just had its finals at Blizzcon earlier this month, and already Blizzard is looking ahead to 2014 with new plans. They've gone ahead and outlined their plans for next year on their website and even included a FAQ to go along with it.

First of all, there will be a schedule that's way easier to comprehend this time around, which I am thankful for. It's never really been easy to understand what's going on and when, and who is qualifying for what and how. They've acknowledge this and aim to fix it for next year. In addition, the Global StarCraft II League, or GSL, is making its return and with higher prize pools! There's even more great news that you can check out for yourself over on their news post.

Next year already looks exciting!

This Nathan Drake figure is ruggedly handsome

And it's really expensive, at $160. That figures.

Though Slideshow Collectibles is offering you a chance to enter a giveaway to win this faithful, 1.6 scale, heavily detailed  recreation of Uncharted 3's lead. Apparently some first names considered for Drake were Ethan, Samuel, Matthew, and John. God those are boring.

For some reason, I can't rid my head of the idea of someone using this to pleasure themselves. Maybe because Max Scoville is behind me talking about dragon dildos.

Well, whatever you want to do with this pricey, handsome man, enjoy.

The Gentlemen's Club! Bears wearing armor, that's it

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 01:30 PM PST

You guys may remember a movie called The Golden Compass. While out searching for games to play on a show Spencer and I came across the game based on this movie. This movie had bears wearing armor...BEARS IN ARMOR. So naturally we picked it up and wanted to share it with you guys. That was a year ago, now we are here, preparing to play a game that is presumably about bears in armor. Bears in armor. Bears. In. Armor.

Oh, and later on we may just switch it up an play a fighting game because Spencer and I are both pretty hyped up about the new Killer Instinct game Perhaps the newly released SoulCalibur 2 HD? Actually, yeah, we are probably going to play a lot of that, Golden Compass was just an excuse to put bears wearing armor in a header image.Think of it as a nontraditional ADD Friday throwback, on a Wednesday.

Namco bringing Mario Kart Arcade GP DX to the West

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 01:00 PM PST

Regrettably, I've not yet had the privilege of playing Namco Bandai's Mario Kart arcade games. This has been especially painful for Mario Kart Arcade GP DX, which looks so damned good. Unlike its predecessors, this machine won't be such a challenge for gamers living in the United States to find -- it's coming to the West, Arcade Heroes reports.

The cabinet, shown above, is being demonstrated at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions 2013 trade show in Orlando, Florida. It uses a 42" monitor -- which, as it turns out, is a reuse of Namco's Dead Heat Street Racing cabinets -- and is said to have the same software base as the Japanese version. Dibs on Don-chan, in that case!

We're looking at a winter 2013 release for Mario Arcade GP DX, though availability is of course going to be subject to where you live. Fingers crossed that one of these units finds its way to Portland. I may actually be more pumped for this than Mario Kart 8.

Valve teases new Team Fortress 2 content

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 12:30 PM PST

Valve still has plans to keep the party going for Team Fortress 2. After its recent Halloween pack, the developers are already underway with the reveal of new content. Today, an update for Mann vs. Machine was teased on the official TF2 blog, and there's still much more to come.

In this new Dickensian update, a new co-op tour called the Two Cities Tour will be available for the Mann vs. Machine mode. In it, players will travel to a new map called "Mannhatten" in the fight against waves of robots. Unlike the previous tour, the robots' tactics have changed and they possess the abilities to shift their spawn points around the map and bring in more bombs to use against players.

In addition to this, completing the Two Cities Tour will reward players with Killstreak kits that allow you to customize your weapons with decorations, new parts and spare scrap, and of course the chance of acquiring an ultra rare Australium weapon for their arsenal. Moreover, a new community map called "Snakewater" focusing on control point gameplay will be brought into server rotation.

With the reveal of the second city tomorrow, and in addition to other content, TF2 players have a lot to look forward this week. It's great to see that Valve is still having fun making content for this series, as their wit and humor hasn't lost its edge one bit.

Double Fine's Spacebase DF-9 covers its investment

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 12:00 PM PST

Spacebase DF-9 seemed to be one of the natural fits for Steam's Early Access program; like Prison Architect, it's a management sim that's added new features (a large update came out at the end of last week) as development has gone on. It's good news then, that Spacebase has recouped its initial investment of $400,000 in just two weeks. I bought the Amnesia Fortnight Double Fine bundle mainly for the video documentaries and Spacebase did look like one of the projects that I'd be keen on playing.

Indie Fund put forward $75,000 and other investors made up the rest of the budget. In the past, Indie Fund has put forward between $50,000 and $100,000 into projects, so it was clear that Spacebase needed some extra help. What's interesting to me is the split between sales on Steam Early Access and direct from Double Fine, which were 85 percent and 15 percent, respectively. I'd be interested to see other breakdown in sales for other games on Early Access as I'm curious if Steam selling games that are in alpha reduces buyer concerns.

Umm, Aksys has a short teaser for PS3 exclusive Magus

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 11:30 AM PST

Aksys has released an incredibly brief teaser trailer for its upcoming action game Magus, co-developed by Black Tower. I mean brief. There are more logos than footage.

Magus is headed exclusively to PS3 early 2014. In it, you play as Magus, who looks more bland than a default Sims character. Apparently he is a god, just released from imprisonment, seeking revenge. Maybe he is the god of space marines.

This looks very much not great. May Gus have mercy on this game.

Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind long trailer

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 11:00 AM PST

This is definitely our meatiest look yet at the upcoming 3DS game Attack on Titan: The Last Wings of Mankind, which is launching in Japan on December 5.

I'm really curious just how the 3D maneuvering works and how it feels to play. It looks impressively dynamic and open in this video. Maybe something like Gravity Rush's floating mechanic, using the shoulder buttons?

Well, I'll never know. Knee deep in Kill la Kill, I've yet to get to Attack on Titan, so I'm not tripping over myself to import this. Maybe some of you are?

YouTube app confirmed for Xbox One launch

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 10:00 AM PST

When you're not playing Forza Motorsport 5 at launch, you'll now have the option of watching the latest Game Grumps or whatever it is you use YouTube for on your Xbox One. The official YouTube app will indeed be ready on November 22 in most regions, excluding Austria, Ireland, and New Zealand. Those folks will have to wait a bit longer.

The app itself supports voice- and gesture-based control as you'd expect, and channel subscriptions. Frankly, I could see it getting some real use with the console's multitasking Snap mode -- though it doesn't sound like that feature will be ready for a couple months.

Considering the Xbox One's push as an all-in-one entertainment device, I was expecting the YouTube app to be a given right out of the box. Silly me. I'm rapidly starting to realize that there are no guarantees when functionality can always be introduced via update after the fact.

Logitech unveils iPhone 5 gaming controller & battery

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 09:45 AM PST

Logitech has revealed its entry into the iPhone controller market, hinted at earlier this year, with the Powershell Controller + Battery.

Now that iOS 7 comes with native support for gaming controllers, Logitech is stepping up, with this $100 unit that is compatible with the iPhone 5, 5S, and the 5th generation iPod Touch. That's some money to drop on an iOS gaming controller, but if you play games on your phone enough, it might be worth the investment.Though you may want to check the list of support games.

It certainly looks sleek. The built in battery also claims to "double your play time." We'll put that claim and its overall functionality to the test in our review down the line.

Live show: The Typing of The Dead: Overkill

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 09:30 AM PST

[Mash Tactics airs Monday through Friday at 4p.m. Pacific on Dtoid.TV. Watch Rick 'King Foom' Olson play a variety of games, each day with its own theme. With a heavy focus on community and viewer interaction, you can be as much a part of the show as anything else.]

I absolutely loved the original The House of The Dead: Overkill, in fact, this vulgar and vile little game ended up becoming one of my all-time favorites. So, when I recently heard that there was a new version of Overkill using the classic Typing of The Dead formula, I just knew this was something that I would have to share with our viewers on an eventual episode of Mash Tactics.

Witness as I fumble along through the game this evening using my awkwardly slow two-finger typing style, and as my lack of keyboard coordination gets showcased in front of a live audience. The good news for me however, is that The Typing of The Dead: Overkill also comes with a port of the original game that I can easily switch over to, perchance I do become a bit too frustrated with my typing ineptitude. In fact, you can pretty much count on that happening at some point.

Super Motherload coming to PS3 next week

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 09:15 AM PST

Super Motherload is out on PS4, but you don't have to be an early adopter to get your hands on its space shovel and start digging your way towards secrets. The small developer announced today it would be bringing its game to PS3 soon.

You can expect it November 26 in North America,  November 27 in Europe. The website also lists its PC and Mac release date as Summer 2014.

PS3 might be the way to go in this instance, unless you already own four DualShock 4 controllers. This game is a blast with couch co-op.

Review: Wii Fit U

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 09:00 AM PST

When Wii Fit launched, it kicked off the fitness craze in gaming for better or worse. Soon the Nintendo innovation (much like many of its other innovations) was being duplicated and improved upon everywhere. As motion controls became prevalent on every system so did fitness games. Nintendo attempted to keep up with Wii Fit Plus, which took the now embarrassingly bare bones Wii Fit and at least let you piece together a work out. It didn't really push Wii Fit up to the level of the fitness games around it, though.

Part of this was, of course, the fact that Wii Fit's idea of fitness is a lot more relaxed -- it focuses on stretching, balance, and core instead of working up a sweat and toning your biceps into Popeye levels of muscularity. The other part, however, was the fact that the game, for all its mini-game fun, just wasn't that robust in its overall fitness features. Wii Fit U aims to change that.

Battlefield 3 maps live on in this new BF4 DLC trailer

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 08:45 AM PST

You can go ahead and mute the audio before clicking play on this video for Second Assault, an upcoming Battlefield 4 map pack. The dramatic voice over just isn't doing it for me -- not when, really, all I needed was straight footage of Operation Metro, Gulf of Oman, Caspian Border, and Operation Firestorm making their Frostbite 3 engine debut.

Now, here's the thing about Second Assault -- it's a timed exclusive. Rather annoyingly, it'll be available first on Xbox One beginning November 22, 2013 for BF4 Premium members. Not that I'm in any real rush to pay for DLC for the game or anything, but it's disappointing to see such a PC-centric series miss out. PC gamers do at least have China Rising on the near horizon.

On top of the aforementioned throwback maps, Second Assault also includes the dune buggy, capture the flag mode, and five remastered weapons.

Dragon Quest X Version 2 gets a colorful trailer

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 08:30 AM PST

If you don't want to watch the whole thing because you're still disappointed Dragon Quest X has yet to leave Japan, at least catch the delightful final 15 seconds or so.

Dragon Quest X released on the Wii to great success. It fared way less well on the Wii U, where sales were not good, which might be why Square released a PC version and is working to bring it to iOS and Android this year.

While Square seemed open to the idea of bringing the MMORPG out of Japan, there's no news on that front. Meanwhile, the expansion, Dragon Quest X Version 2, is coming to Wii, Wii U, and PC on December 5 in Japan. You can befriend and train monsters! Which reminds me that we're not getting the 3DS Dragon Warrior Monsters remake, either. Sad.

EA: 'Used games are an important part of the industry'

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 08:00 AM PST

EA is acknowledging that, "there will be a physical business [for games] probably for a long period of time." Finally.

This comes from EA CFO Blake Jorgensen, speaking at the UBS Global Technology Conference. "I also think that used games are an important part of the industry," Jorgensen said. "People think about the prices of games based on the fact that they can still return that game and they need a physical disc to do that,"

This is almost surprising coming from EA, but Jorgensen is the one who earlier this year admitted while he might want the used market gone, the liquidity of the market and health of retailers might be beneficial for publishers.

Of course, he also talked about how develoeprs, "might extend the gameplay on [a disc game] by 10 or 12 months based on digital extensions to it where all that comes via downloads coming in smaller pieces," so it's not like we're going to see anything resembling an end to microtransactions, day one DLC, and the like.

Sony: PS4 sold out in Canada in country's largest launch

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 07:30 AM PST

The PS4 is off to as good of a start as Sony could have hoped for with over one million consoles sold in the first 24 hours of its North American launch. Those are some powerful numbers, some of which come from America's northern neighbor, Canada.

Speaking to GamesIndustry International, Sony Canada VP and GM Steve Turvey called the PS4 launch, "by far the largest launch in gaming history in Canada." Indeed, Turvey said the system was sold out throughout Canada, save for pre-orders that weren't picked up yet. Don't fret, though, as he also said they, "have a nice healthy supply of inventory" ready to "flow into the marketplace."

Despite the grandiose numbers, Turvey kept some reservation, stating, "It's great when something is received well by your customer base on day one and out of the gate...But as we've been through other iterations of PlayStation, the lifecycle is a long one. ... The long-term success is built over time."

Anyone here, in Canada or otherwise, struggling to find PS4s on store shelves, or did you get your orders sorted ages ago?

Tearaway demo will launch alongside the game on Friday

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 07:15 AM PST

Did you know Tearaway is coming out this Friday? Did you know we really, really liked it? Good, because I wasn't going to let this one slip right past you. That's not happening on my watch. I don't think Sony is going to let that happen either, as the demo will launch alongside the game this Friday. Well, it's more of a trial because you can unlock the game right from the bite-sized piece of content if you like what you're seeing. Chances are you definitely will.

To make double sure you know about Tearaway, Sony also prepared a launch trailer that shows off all of the things they've made countless behind-the-scenes videos for in recent weeks. Oh, and Tearaway.me has finally launched so you can sign in, receive some exclusive papercraft models, and check out all the photos and models reviewers have already put up there.

Star Wars is in EA's hands for a decade

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 07:00 AM PST

As reported earlier this morning, Electronic Arts won't be making any Star Wars games based on the upcoming movies as part of its licensing deal with Disney. We let out a collective sigh of relief. Granted, there are plenty of rubbish games not based on films, so who knows what will come of DICE's Star Wars: Battlefront and the other titles due out in the coming years.

Speaking about the deal, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen noted that it'll last a decade. "[It] allows us to be able to build games in many different genres across multiple types of platforms over 10 years and we'll leverage the strength of the Disney marketing associated with the Star Wars properties both in movies and other things that they may do over the timeframe. We'll try to align those with that marketing, power the Disney has so it will get aligned with timing around the movies, but it won’t necessarily be aligned with the movie."

Don't screw this up, EA. There's so much potential here. We needs this. Star Wars needs this.

Spelunky on PS3/Vita now features Daily Challenge mode

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 06:45 AM PST

While Spelunky is great no matter where you play it, the console versions have been at a disadvantage to the PC release and its Daily Challenge mode, which allows players to compete by playing in a shared set of stages everyone gets only one shot at each day. If you have the game for PlayStation 3 or PS Vita, rejoice, for the Daily Challenge is now yours to undertake as well.

Along with the new mode, today's update brings a few fixes. Slowdown which was occurring in some areas has now been addressed and bugs relating to unlocking trophies have been resolved.

I love the Daily Challenge, as you may know if you watched the video series Jordan and I made revolving around it. I've only recently gone back and started playing daily again. The gravitational pull of the game remains strong and I think I'm going to embark on a personal mission to clear Hell on a Daily. Who's with me?

Tomb Raider sequel to be revealed at VGX?

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 06:15 AM PST

Despite apparently "failing" in its publisher's eyes, it's no surprise that there's another Tomb Raider game on the way and we might see the first trailer at VGX. A Square Enix rep has told IGN that fans should "keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December." Which would mean VGX, formerly the Spike TV Video Game Awards, right? Y'know, the event where lots of new trailers get shown for the first time?

Considering that the Tomb Raider reboot only arrived earlier this year, a trailer for a sequel might seem premature but I suppose there's no harm in letting people know that Lara Croft will return, as if that was ever in any doubt. I'd put my money on a Q1 2015 release and hopefully all the new consoles will ensure some amazing hair tech

Devolver Digital signs point-and-click adventure Dropsy

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 06:00 AM PST

Few things scare me more than clowns and as much as I find the protagonist of Dropsy to be unsettling, the game itself is also admittedly rather charming. This is a point-and-click adventure which emphasizes exploration, and visual storytelling over written dialog. The game has been going strong on Kickstarter -- enough that funding is locked in, with four days remaining -- and now publisher Devolver Digital has announced its involvement with the project.

While the team will help with aspects of production like marketing, quality assurance, and localization, to be clear, "Devolver Digital is not involved with money from backers nor do we have any say in how it is used. We're going to provide additional funds beyond Kickstarter to make sure that all stretch goals are met and that any additional features or content the team envisions for the game are possible because we love Dropsy and want it made without compromise."

Do take a look at the Kickstarter pitch -- it's well put together and there are GIFs. You like those, right? Dropsy seems to be right in Devolver's wheelhouse, which pleases me so. It's planned for release across Windows, Mac, and Linux in October 2014. Look at that dog!

Life, death, men, women, and LEGO with Holly Pickering

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 05:30 AM PST

A week and a half ago on Sup Holmes (now on iTunes) we were graced with the company of Ms. Holly Pickering, former artist on the bulk of Traveller's Tale's LEGO games, currently working on Ether One from White Paper Games.

Holly has an ability to talk about incredibly personal, difficult stuff with a total stranger in front of thousands of people, all without ever seeming self-centered or melodramatic. It's equal parts charming and disarming. Her humility and positivity shine through, even when focusing on the many life-changing challenges she's gone through. From a childhood of bonding over computers with her dad, to teenage years wrestling with disapproval from others for loving art and technology, to getting work at Traveller's Tales shortly thereafter, to losing her father to suicide, to going out on her own to work on more personal projects; no topic was off limits.

By the end of the episode, I was ready to simultaneously laugh, cry, and cheer for Holly all at the same time, while she appeared completely unimpressed with herself. Regardless of what she may work on in the future, she can count me among her biggest fans. Thanks again to Holly for appearing on the show, and make sure to tune this Sunday when we welcome Cristina Vee (songstress and voice actress on Shantae, League of LegendsSkullgirls and many others) to the program.

Review: Powerstar Golf

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 05:00 AM PST

As a young gamer, often times my first foray into the wide world of sports was through videogames. Before I knew how to run a slant route in a real-life game of football, I knew how to run something in Tecmo Bowl and Madden.

The same could be said for the greenest of all sports, which was first introduced to me by way of Nintendo's Golf for the NES. Even though I had no idea what "par" was or the difference between a driver and a wedge, there was something tranquil about hitting a tiny ball down a giant digital course.

Powerstar Golf for the Xbox One captures that feeling as well, even if it has a few other issues in tow.

Here's how to update an offline Xbox One

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 04:45 AM PST

Bricks shouldn't cost upwards of $500, and yet, the Xbox One does. But like a fairy godmother, Microsoft's big day-one patch will magically transform your heaping black box into a full-fledged videogame console, even if you're not connected to Xbox Live!

In all seriousness, most everyone can anticipate that the stress and server load of so many systems trying to update at once will inevitably lead to some issues. For that, Microsoft has drawn up a system that will allow users to update an Xbox One offline.

The Emergency Offline Update (EOU), is not unlike what we saw with the PlayStation 4 update solution, whereby users are allowed to download the patch onto a properly formatted flash drive. There are a few stipulations to this, as not all Xbox Ones will be running the exact same operating system, so for a full breakdown and instructions, check here on Xbox's official support page.

PS4 update 1.51 improves system stability and the UI

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 04:30 AM PST

You may have gotten this PS4 update without realizing it -- system and game updates are, by default, automatic in North America when in stand-by mode -- but here's a quick overview of 1.51.

According to Sony, this improves the stability of system software and introduces some tweaks to the user interface, with the only example given being that there's now a clear indication when a game and a game patch are being downloaded simultaneously.

Plenty more where that came from. How are you enjoying your console, if you snagged one?

Review: AquaPazza: Aquaplus Dream Match

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 04:00 AM PST

When this past generation began, fighting games seemed to be on their last legs. Capcom fighters were nowhere in sight, Sega’s Virtua Fighter laid hidden in the deepest of digital fight clubs, and Namco’s Tekken and SoulCalibur began to wane after a few uninspired sequels. But to the hardcore, fighting games never went away; their devotion kept the once booming genre alive -- even if it had been relegated to a “niche” category.

Then Street Fighter IV happened. Like an injection of Red Bull straight into the vein, the genre got its renaissance. Doors were opened and more and more fighters saw, not just daylight, but also success. The power of the Xbox 360 and PS3 brought more realistic and jaw-dropping 3D models, and increased memory gave us high-definition 2D sprites that rivaled the quality of hand-drawn animation.

The advent of live streaming has additionally kept the viability of the genre flowing, especially in the wake of EVOs recent tidal wave of popularity growth, and in the public eye for the foreseeable future. Additional platforms, like XBLA, PSN, and Steam, also afford us more venues for fighting games to come out on. Pair that with the closing of this current generation, and a few titles that would normally not see the light of day are beginning to radiate through the cracks.

Check out this Fallout 3 multiplayer mod for the PC

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 03:00 AM PST

Some ambitious modders have decided to try to add multiplayer to Fallout 3 on the PC, and so far it looks like they are going to be able to pull it off. The Vault-Tec Multiplayer Mod is a server framework that will connect players into a shared world.

There have been failed projects like this before for The Elder Scrolls games, but this one actually seems like it could work. A pre-alpha is available to download, if you are feeling brave. I hope they do manage to get it running, because it would be awesome to run around the wasteland with a friend (or in my case, my girlfriend).

Borderlands 2 is getting Thanksgiving themed DLC

Borderlands 2 is getting some DLC for Thanksgiving, called The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler. First of all, that name is amazing. This is the second set of Headhunter DLC, following T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest.

The Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler will be out on November 26th for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 for $2.99.

Diablo III: Reaper of Souls beta starting by end of year

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 02:00 AM PST

Along with a small Friends and Family Beta, Blizzard have decided to invite 3,000 of the most active Diablo III players to check out Reaper of Souls. This Friends and Family Beta is happening now, and a closed beta should be happening by the end of the year.

The beta will let you play all of the expansion right up to the end, but you won't get to fight the final boss. If you want to be a part of the closed beta, you'll have to opt in from your Battle.net account.

EA isn't making any games based on new Star Wars movies

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 01:30 AM PST

EA's Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen talked about Star Wars games during a presentation on Tuesday, and he made it clear they don't want to make a movie game. Jorgensen said, "We've done movie games over the years and we wanted to make sure that we weren't doing a movie game, i.e., game based on the movie."

Jorgensen went on to say that we can expect to start seeing Star Wars games in 2015 and 2016 from DICE, Visceral Games, and BioWare. So soon we can look forward to seeing Battlefield: Storm Trooper, Dead Space: Jedi, and Mass Effect: Star Wars. Or, something like that.

Titanfall sequels could be on the PlayStation 4

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 01:00 AM PST

During one of EA's investor calls, Blake J. Jorgenson, EA's CFO and Executive Vice President, said "I'm sure that there will be future Titanfalls at some point that may be on multiple product platforms." This matches what the developer's have said on Twitter about future games being on the PlayStation 4.

There is still no chance of the first Titanfall coming out on the PlayStation 4, but it's nice to hear that Sony's console will be considered in the future. Of course, you'll have to wait a year or two, but better late than never I suppose.

The PS4 costs $381 to produce, according to experts

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 12:30 AM PST

The guys over at AllThingsD had a chance to see a teardown analysis of the PlayStation 4 done by the research firm IHS, and this analysis lists all of the components along with their cost. Altogether, the total price to manufacture the PlayStation 4 is around $381, only $18 under the consoles selling price.

By comparison, IHS reported that the PlayStation 3 cost $805 to produce, which Sony sold at a loss of $206 per console. So while the profit margins on the PlayStation 4 might be slim, it's a lot better than losing money on every box.

Review: Forza Motorsport 5

Posted: 20 Nov 2013 12:00 AM PST

We've had plenty of racing games come out at console launches, but we've never had a Forza Motorsport game. Don't get me wrong -- I love powersliding around silly tracks while rocking out to Japanese techno anthems. It's just that as a racing fan, I'll end up wanting more later.

Where your typical launch racer might be a tasty fast food cheeseburger, a new Forza game would be like a dry-aged cowboy ribeye, broiled medium, and topped with butter and grilled onions. I want more. I want something I can sink my teeth into. I want something that will leave me full and satisfied, fat and happy.

Command & Conquer games will continue with new studio

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 11:30 PM PST

EA stopped development on the latest Command & Conquer, and closed the studio working on it. The game was in its early alpha stages as a free-to-play title, and EA released a statement saying that all purchases during the alpha would be refunded. EA also said that anyone that was eligible for the early beta access would be able to do so "once production of this title resumes under a new studio."

This is good to know. I don't have any faith in EA ever making another PC game that won't suck, but it's interesting to see that they are keeping it in development. They will probably try to make it run on the Frostbite engine, add lots of DLC, and have it require a constant internet connection.

New Square Enix Christmas album is the hotness

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 11:00 PM PST

Square Enix's X'mas Collections album from 2010 was a cool idea, but was poorly executed. To put it bluntly, it was short, lazy, and sounded "cheap." They've taken this feedback to heart, and are releasing a second volume that corrects all of these issues, much to my delight.

Firstly, it features Yuzo Koshiro (Streets of Rage, Actraiser) arranging "Rydia" from Final Fantasy IV (I could just stop there), a bunch of returning Square Enix composers including Junya Nakano doing Dewprism and Kenichiro Fukui doing "Crono and Marle" from Chrono Trigger (a beautiful piano ballad rendition, I might add), and even a track from an upcoming, unannounced Mana project. The music is arranged wonderfully, tapping in nicely to the Christmas vibe while retaining high production values.

Despite all the amazingness, it's only 2,190 Yen ($22) at CD Japan, and ships on November 27, 2013. I suggest picking this up for the holidays as well as checking out our top ten game music tracks for Christmas article from last year. And watch for our review in Note Worthy!

Lord of the Rings Online: Helm's Deep expansion out today

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 10:00 PM PST

Lord of the Rings Online has a new expansion out today, called Helm's Deep. In addition to being able to take part in the iconic battle, the level cap has been raised to 95, and players will be able to explore new areas of Western Rohan. The base edition for the expansion is $39.99.

Lord of the Rings Online is a really underrated game. For an MMO, it's pretty good, and if you are a fan of Tolkien lore, then it's a wonderland of nerdgasms. The game feels a little dated, but the newer expansions have done a good job of bringing it up to the modern era.

These Pokemon would have no problems murdering you

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 09:00 PM PST

If Pokemon were real, how powerful would they be? Turns out, they'd be crazy powerful. YouTuber VSauce3 took a surprisingly in-depth and macabre look at three different Pokemon in X and Y that could definitely kill a person, and it certainly reinforces what fragile beings we are.

For instance, if you were made of four-inch thick steel, Blastoise would only need to be operating at one-third capacity from one of his water cannons to put a hole in you. Yeah. Don't f*ck with Blastoise.

Review: Tearaway

Posted: 19 Nov 2013 06:04 PM PST

I was sitting in a doctor’s office waiting room, lost in my Vita because doctors are terrible timekeepers. 2:00 pm means 2:00 pm, life-saving scumbag. Suddenly, I was looking at dimly lit tartan chairs and an old, wrinkled man with a mustache of frayed steel wool.

When I realized it was the seats and man across from me, a hole ripped open in the waiting room, spewing shredded strips of paper, and I fell into the papery world of Tearaway.
