LEGO Super Heroes also coming to Xbox One and PS4 Posted: 21 Aug 2013 04:00 PM PDT Finally, after all this time, we get to see the villains of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. Magneto, Dr. Doom, Venom, Dr. Octopus, Loki, Green Goblin, and even Galactus himself will all be featured in the game. We get to see some more heroes too, like the Fantastic Four, Storm, Cyclops, and Deadpool! Yay Deadpool! This will be the first LEGO game I actually play more than one level of as I'm just a giant fan of all things Marvel. Plus it's pretty fun. Now I just need to figure out what platform to get it on as it's pretty much coming out for everything, and it was just announced for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 too!

An easy way to level up your Disney Infinity character Posted: 21 Aug 2013 03:30 PM PDT Pick up Disney Infinity? Well if you're impatient you can use this neat little trick to level up your Disney Infinity characters pretty fast. Just set down a fan, get in a car, and then get spun in the air like you just don't care. YouTube user Craig Sullivan notes that it took him 45 minutes to gain about eight levels. Oh, and we'll have our official review for Disney Infinity coming to you soon. Sorry for the delay on that! @kobunheat [Twitter]

GameGrumps auctioning off games for Child's Play Posted: 21 Aug 2013 03:00 PM PDT The GameGrumps receive a lot of games from their fans to play on the show, and because of that they receive a ton of duplicate copies of titles. So instead of hoarding it all away, they've put them up for auction on eBay! The games are being sold off as packages, and 100% of the proceeds will go towards Child's Play. GameGrumps are also throwing their own merchandise in each of the lots as an added bonus.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 out February 25, 2014 Posted: 21 Aug 2013 02:30 PM PDT Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 will be out on February 25, 2014 in North and South America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. I'm really looking forward to Lords of Shadow 2, and this new walkthrough video has got me even more excited. It shows off a boss fight, how you'll gain new weapons, and we see Dracula's son. You have to protect him at some point in the game, and I couldn't help but laugh out loud when I saw the kid knocked to the ground. Read more... |
Get beyond touchy with the Beyond: Two Souls app Posted: 21 Aug 2013 02:00 PM PDT David Cage's Beyond: Two Souls has been one of my most anticipated titles ever since my first glimpse of it during E3 2012, and now it's confirmed I'll get to share the experience with a friend. Revealed during gamescom, the Quantic Dream founder announced the game will support two-player cooperative play. Players will pass control between the game's two characters Jodi and Aiden with a simple press of the triangle button. Additionally announced is the iOS and Android app titled "Beyond Touch." The free app allows for a simpler form of control that is aimed at reeling in more casual players. There are no virtual buttons and no on-screen prompts and the game is automatically placed into easy mode when in the app is in use. Beyond: Two Souls launches exclusively on PlayStation 3 on October 8. Beyond: Two Souls has multiplayer, an app that turns touchscreens into controllers [Joystiq]

'Easier to publish on Wii U than on Steam' says dev Posted: 21 Aug 2013 01:00 PM PDT Joel Nyström, CEO of Ludosity, the team making the upcoming Zelda-like Ittle Dew, recently spoke with NintendoWorldReport as part of their "eShop Interview Extravaganza" and made an interesting comment about indie game publishing: "It's actually easier to publish on Wii U than on Steam... The thing about Greenlight it that you just don't know, there aren't any clear answers and they seem to be changing their policy, and their CEO is saying one thing and they are acting in another way. I think a lot of developers are anxious about Greenlight, right now." Mr. Nyström recently spoke out against the Wii U's interface, calling it a "disappointment" with "too many unnecessary steps." Despite that, the publishing side of things seems to be more straightforward, or at least more straightforward than the convoluted Greenlight system. I don't know the permanent fix for Steam Greenlight, but I do know that they need to be way more transparent than they already are. eShop Interview Extravaganza Nintendo [WorldReport]

Sneak peek at Chrono Trigger Symphony fan album Posted: 21 Aug 2013 12:30 PM PDT On August 22, 1995, Chrono Trigger released in the US and changed the RPG paradigm forever. Exactly 18 years later, Blake Robinson is paying tribute with Chrono Trigger Symphony: Volume 1, the first in a three-part set celebrating the lauded SNES classic. As he's done in the past, Blake has provided Destructoid with a sampler pack to give you an idea of what's in store. The four-track preview is up on our SoundCloud page, or you can simply catch the embed below. The full 23-track album will release tomorrow on iTunes and Loudr, likely for $10 as were his Banjo-Kazooie and Super Metroid symphonies. Any biters? Read more... |
The Last Guardian still in the works, but not top priorty Posted: 21 Aug 2013 12:00 PM PDT Sony's perpetually in progress The Last Guardian is still in "earnest" development according to Team ICO head Fumito Ueda. In an interview with Famitsu (translated by Polygon) Ueda didn't say much regarding the highly anticipated PlayStation title. What he did say though, only further perpetuates concern for the title. "However, SCE Japan Studio, who's working on The Last Guardian, also has titles like Puppeteer and Knack, and those are only the ones currently announced. Those are taking priority right now." Well it's good to know Sony has priorities. Both the Puppeteer and Knack look fantastic and I'm eagerly awaiting their releases. Hopefully with the Tokyo Game Show right around the corner we might learn a little more info about The Last Guardian. gamescom 2013 Day 1 in pictures Posted: 21 Aug 2013 11:35 AM PDT gamescom is crazy. There are what seems like miles of exhibition halls, all packed with games, attractions, and lots of sweaty people. Last year, I felt like I missed some things. This year, the first thing I did was run through all of the halls I could to see as much as I could. Here we have a gallery of some of the fun things I came across in my journeys. If the halls look a little thin on traffic, that's because today is a business only day. Tomorrow is when the public is let loose on the gamescom show floor. Wish me luck. Read more... |
DICE hasn't locked down the direction of Battlefront Posted: 21 Aug 2013 11:30 AM PDT Concerns about where DICE will take Star Wars: Battlefront have been expressed before, and with little to go on outside of a vague "probably in summer 2015" launch window, I can absolutely see why. Even if the studio has a proven track record with Battlefield, there are still so many unknowns. In terms of the game's direction, executive producer Patrick Bach told Video Gamer that "We haven't really locked that down yet. "I think there's of course a part of the DICE DNA to build the games that we're building, but then again we're building games like Mirror's Edge as well," he said. "So I think it will be a challenge for us. [You're] damned if you do, damned if you don't. People don't want another Battlefield with Star Wars graphics; they want a Star Wars game that is proper." Which is reassuring to hear, because I think he's nailed it. But -- of course there's a "but" -- Bach went on to say "if you compromise brilliant design choices from Battlefield just because you're not allowed from some kind of moral standpoint, then I think that's also wrong. We need to make the best game possible. What that means in detail, we will see." DICE talks Star Wars: Battlefront: 'People don’t want Battlefield with Star Wars graphics' [VideoGamer]

Killzone: Shadow Fall will have free DLC maps Posted: 21 Aug 2013 11:00 AM PDT Yesterday we learned that Killzone: Shadow Fall will have a feature called Warzone where you can design the multiplayer matches. You can pick the number of players, rules, mission modes classes, abilities, and weapons that can be in the match, then share your gametypes with other players. It seems Guerrilla Games wants some serious longevity with they've also announced that their future downloadable content multiplayer maps will all be free. That's a pretty sweet deal, and makes for a really good incentive to play as everyone else charges for their extra maps.

Live show: Splinter Cell: Blacklist Posted: 21 Aug 2013 10:30 AM PDT Make sure to get over to Dtoid.TV this evening for a night full of co-op sneaking, stealthing and shenanigans with The Gentleman's Club. Tonight, Phil and Spencer will be jumping into the recently released, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and doing thier best to avoid detection, stay in the shadows, and of course get some gnarly stealth kills in along the way. However, I have a feeling that the best parts of the show will be when well laid plans crumble, and all hell breaks loose, leaving the gentlemen arguing about just who exactly set off that last tripwire. QotD: What is your all time favorite stealth game?

Red and blue PlayStation 4 controllers revealed Posted: 21 Aug 2013 10:30 AM PDT You'll be able to pick up a blue or red colored DualShock 4 controller when the PlayStation 4 is released later this year. The Magma Red and Wave Blue color variations will be going for €59/£54/$59, and they'll be out alongside the PS4's launch in Europe, and sometime later this year in North and Latin America. This is without a doubt the most exciting thing you will read all day. Read more... |
Posted: 21 Aug 2013 10:01 AM PDT On paper, SteamWorld Dig sounds like the most mind-numbing slog that you could possibly imagine. The object of the game is to dig, exchange the minerals you unearth for better equipment, then dig some more. And when you think you've dug deep enough, you start punching the rocks and pick up the pace. Being forced to perform a singular action ad infinitum can severely impede fun and enjoyment in a videogame. Ironically, the cornerstone of many popular games is the repetition of seemingly mundane tasks with the goal of discovering ever more efficient ways to accomplish said tasks. What makes the grind in SteamWorld Dig so exhilarating is that each upturned patch of soil is another step towards some grand new discovery. That is, as long as you don't mind digging. A lot. A la cartridge: Pasta di Pikmin Posted: 21 Aug 2013 10:00 AM PDT Food is good. Videogames are good. Food inspired by videogames are doubleplusgood. It's simple science. Science and art. This is the second episode of Steven Hansen's À la cartridge, a straightforward cooking show where I teach you how to make tasty things and talk about the games that inspire them. In my quest to become the Alton Brown of videogames, will I become videogames' Guy Fieri? This week, we take a reprieve from meat and tackle a vegetarian dish. Yes, it's still mad tasty. Bell peppers are the best, especially when well pepp-ared. It's also probably easier than last week's Dragon's Crown-inspired pork shoulder and potatoes. Just throw things in fire! (more detailed recipe below) If you're in the Olimar-ket for good eats, this Pikmin 3 platter is sure to please. Plus, you can make a whole bunch on the cheap and have leftovers for days. Watch the video. It only takes a few pikmin-utes. I think I talk less stupidly and we're getting closer to eliminating jump cuts. Any sort of recipe you'd like to see done next? Any particular game? Need for Speed Rivals lets you play your way Posted: 21 Aug 2013 09:50 AM PDT Mostly, Need for Speed Rivals is all about going fast in cool cars, just like its predecessors. But this new one lets you dig down deeper to race your way with a new progression system and options for customization. You can play as racers or cops in Rivals, and both sides have a progression system that has groups of themed assignments that follow different styles of gameplay. For example, you can pick the Patrol path as a cop and learn the basics, or go Undercover for different objectives that have you doing more daring things. Being an Enforcer has you out busting balls on the road. Read more... |
Hands-on with Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag Posted: 21 Aug 2013 09:30 AM PDT The Assassin’s Creed franchise has seen some pretty bizarre events occur. From off the wall historical conspiracies, conducting time travel by way of DNA, and ancient precursors looking to destroy humanity; it's amazing to see how they manage to up the ante with each game. Even after the third numbered entry’s seemingly conclusive finale, Ubisoft have got no plans to stop their best selling franchise now. Read more... |
Flailing wildly in Xbox One exclusive Fighter Within Posted: 21 Aug 2013 09:15 AM PDT Ubisoft has something new up its sleeve, a fighting game exclusive to the Xbox One. Fighter Within is a motion controlled, one on one fighter with undertones of Tekken. It's the first game I've played that tries to take full control of the new, supposedly better Kinect. It was even running on an actual Xbox One and everything. If I haven't lost you at a Kinect fighting game -- maybe you really like Wii Boxing or Danny Trejo's The Fight: Lights Out -- the plainly named Fighter Within isn't terrible. You can even play as a smarmy Ryan Gosling. Read more... |
The big list of confirmed PlayStation 4 games Posted: 21 Aug 2013 09:00 AM PDT Like Microsoft, Sony has seen fit to bombard us with a list of upcoming games for their next-gen platform, set to launch this November. Of the 180 PlayStation 4 titles reportedly in development -- roughly 80 of which we can confirm -- 15 titles will be physically available at retail during the launch window of November 15, through December 31. Of those, 12 will appear on other platforms. While those numbers may seem a bit tragic at first glance, it should be noted that Sony's digital offerings provide a slightly more diverse array of games from both major and independent developers, resulting in a combined total of 33 games to be released by year's end. It'll be interesting to see how DriveClub will stand up against established racing franchises such as Gran Turismo and Codemasters' Grid, and thanks to PlayStation Plus, many of us will have a first-hand opportunity to put that the test. From what I've seen so far, Killzone: Shadow Fall looks to be a decent follow-up for the series, but I've become so jaded with first-person shooters in general that it'll take a lot to impress me. As for indie titles, I'm really looking forward to the fast-paced ninja platformer N++, as well as Digital Extreme's third-person co-op shooter Warframe, the latter of which is free to play at launch. Once again, PlayStation 4 will be launching in 32 countries worldwide by the end of the year, starting with North America on November 15 where it'll retail for $399, followed by Europe and Latin America on November 29. European gamers can expect to pay €399, while it'll retail for £349 in the UK -- no word yet on any other countries. Read more... |

Atlus bringing crazy 2D fighter Aquapazza to PS3 Posted: 21 Aug 2013 08:30 AM PDT The email I received from Atlus today pretty much asks the perfect question: "Have you ever dropped a bookcase on someone in a fighting game?" Uh... well that would be a wholehearted no, but I have a feeling that answer might be changing soon. Adding another title to its ever-growing repertoire of fighting games, Atlus is set to release the Examu-developed Aquapazza: Aquaplus Dream Match exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Slated for "Holiday 2013," according to the game's site, the 2D fighter is getting a retail release in addition the PSN treatment. Both editions will sell for $29.99 and have online play. I've had my eye's on Aquapazza ever since my friend from Japan Charlie decided to rub his latest purchase in my face. In screens, and in video, the game looks all kinds of bat-shit crazy and that's the type of fighting game I love. Now the only question I have left is: If the game does well, will Atlus bring another certain Aquaplus title over to North America? Specifically, Tears to Tiara II? I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Falling deeper for Oculus Rift Posted: 21 Aug 2013 08:15 AM PDT Confession: I've been in love with the Oculus Rift for awhile now. I was won over from the moment John Carmack (now Oculus' CTO) helped me strap a prototype to my head. I've seen it a few times since then, too. Every time I find myself going even more crazy than before. And now that I've played around with a prototype for the Oculus Rift HD headset, I'm head over heels. Read more... |
Stay cool: There's going to be a Dark Souls II beta Posted: 21 Aug 2013 08:00 AM PDT Namco Bandai has promised a closed beta for Dark Souls II and before you freak out too much, let's cover the basic details. I mean, you can lose it a little bit -- it's Dark Souls -- but let's not go overboard. First, this will be exclusive to North American and European players on PlayStation Network when it starts October 5, 2013. Second, and more importantly, they're making us work for it. All Namco has said is to check out the official Facebook page beginning September 5 for updates on the registration process and other relevant details. Grr. There is a tease of what the beta has in store, though: "one of the most treacherous areas" in the game, with the freedom to do some exploration.

Mirror's Edge 2 too much of a 'next-gen idea' for 360/PS3 Posted: 21 Aug 2013 07:30 AM PDT There are a fair few games that will be released on both current- and next-gen consoles, but Mirror's Edge 2 won't be among them. EA Games Label executive VP Patrick Söderlund tells Polygon that "It just happened to be a game design that I don't think you can build on an old-gen machine. It doesn't work the way it's designed ... We could maybe get it to work on one, but we would have to compromise on too many things. With this we didn't have to. It's a true next-gen idea, with next-gen execution and that felt right." Söderlund says it was senior producer Sara Jansson's vision, one of "a couple of concepts that looked promising" but didn't pan out, that finally kickstarted production. "It amplified the things that were good with Mirror's Edge and downplayed the things that were bad in a very natural cool way and combined it with a bunch of really inspiring cool things," he said. I can respect the decision to pass on current consoles. There won't be as much of an install base but, then again, it's not like Mirror's Edge 2 is coming out soon anyway. Bringing next-gen Mirror's Edge to current consoles would mean too many compromises [Polygon]

Drawn into the huge world of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Posted: 21 Aug 2013 07:15 AM PDT If you saw our E3 preview of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you'd know that the game's world is so big that it takes 40 minutes to travel across on horseback. It's one thing to say that, but it's another to see it and really get a sense for just how big that is. A new segment of the game shown off at gamescom this week does a nice job of showing just how bit the open world of The Witcher 3 is, as well as just how much CD Projekt RED has packed it full of things to see and do. Impressions: Halo 4: Champions Bundle Posted: 21 Aug 2013 07:00 AM PDT Halo 4 has sort of dwindled, despite the fact that I still queue up on occasion and heartily enjoy it. After three map packs that have ranged from "meh," to "great," the Champions Bundle came out of nowhere outside of the Season Pass, offering up three pieces of individual DLC. Although the bundle may net hardcore fans a few extras, you'd probably be better off just buying the two new stages and calling it a day. Read more... |
Upgrade to next-gen Call of Duty: Ghosts for ten bucks Posted: 21 Aug 2013 06:30 AM PDT Sony's PS3-to-PS4 upgrade pricing for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Assassin's Creed IV, and Watch Dogs didn't sound particularly compelling when it was first announced, but that was before we knew the extent of the savings. At least for Ghosts, we're talking $10/€10/£10 -- as in, "for a limited time," if you buy the game on PlayStation 3 and then get it again on PS4, the next-gen version will cost you $10. This deal is also valid at Amazon and GameStop for the Xbox 360-to-Xbox One transition. Worth considering, then, depending on how much play time you anticipate getting out of the game. It should be pointed out that your in-game Ghosts progress and Season Pass DLC will transfer for free but, again, this is a limited-time thing. Some specifics on the timing sure would be nice.

Killzone: Mercenary is the gold standard of portable FPS Posted: 21 Aug 2013 06:00 AM PDT There's a common thread running throughout Killzone: Mercenary. Reaping the spoils of war is the order of the day. Whether you're completing story missions or testing your mettle on PSN, Killzone: Mercenary turns on investing in yourself. Cash can be earned and shared throughout the first-person shooter's various gameplay modes, allowing players the opportunity to purchase new weapons and equipment from arms dealers. This is a game about sellswords, after all. The life of a professional killer is a balancing act with steep consequences. 3DS eShop next for Retro City Rampage Posted: 21 Aug 2013 05:00 AM PDT Considering all of the other platforms Retro City Rampage is available on, it only seemed like a matter of time before it would end up on 3DS. In a list of games playable next week at PAX Prime, Nintendo outed the existence of Vblank Entertainment's upcoming handheld port. Oh you. Now that the info's out, designer Brian Provinciano graciously shared the first images of the new version. The bottom screen will be home to your score, the minimap, and other HUD elements as well as dialog where applicable. If you haven't already bought the game multiple times, this will more than likely be a nice choice for double dipping. Read more... |
Beavis and Butt-Head are in Civilization V now Posted: 21 Aug 2013 03:30 AM PDT Like most long-running TV shows, the Beavis and Butt-Head show had its ups and downs, but when it was up, it was up. So, a crafty modder set out to relive the best moments of the two semi-lovable idiots in the best way he knew possible -- a Civilization V mod. A few new units, buildings, and a new national wonder await you if you're keen on downloading the add-on. As long as you can play as the Great Cornholio in some fashion, I'm game. I wonder if there's a Daria cameo? Beavis & Butt-Head [Steam via Kotaku]

The Elder Scrolls Online will not be free-to-play Posted: 21 Aug 2013 03:00 AM PDT Here it is -- the moment you've all been waiting for -- confirmation of what payment model The Elder Scrolls Online will use. And, you guessed it, it's subscription based. Yep, that's right, within an interview with Gamestar Zenimax Studios confirmed the existence of a monthly fee. So why go this route? According to Zenimax Studos president and MMO legend Matt Firor, it's to avoid "sacrifices and changes we weren't willing to make." As I said in my preview, although it needs a bit of work, I think The Elder Scrolls Online is going to be a solid MMO -- especially with first-person support. But will it be solid enough to warrant a subscription in this climate? Many MMOs have started out charging subscriptions in the wake of World of Warcraft, but have eventually gone free-to-play, including LOTRO, Rift, Tera, Star Trek Online, and SWTOR to name a few. With Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and WildStar both employing a traditional subscription model as well, one thing's for sure -- 2014 is going to be an interesting year for MMOs. I'm especially anxious to see how the subscription model will pan out on consoles, as Elder Scrolls Online is set for the PS4 and Xbox One. Elder Scrolls Online [GameStar]

Blizzard announces Diablo III: Reaper of Souls Posted: 21 Aug 2013 01:30 AM PDT Blizzard has just announced Reaper of Souls -- a brand new expansion for Diablo III. A few upfront gameplay tweaks and add-ons have been shown off, specifically a level cap increase to 70, "major" loot improvements, an enchantment tool, an account wide paragon system, and a brand new class -- the Crusader. For the Diablo lore-lovers out there, this expansion will feature the fallen angel of wisdom, and will be set in Westmarch. As I've said in the past, I really liked Diablo III short of its ridiculous Auction House system and the bungling of post-launch support. Provided this comes to the console versions in a timely manner I'm highly interested, as the Auction House (and DRM) is non-existent there. The loot improvements sound particularly great, and I'm itching to try out a brand new class. If Blizzard does this right, they'll get me addicted again. Read more... |
I almost missed an appointment playing Peggle 2 Posted: 21 Aug 2013 01:15 AM PDT It's an unending joke at the Microsoft booth here at gamescom. Nearly every group that walks into the booth seems surprised and amused that the shiny new Xbox One is powering this decidedly simple ball bouncing game. A lot of them act as if they are too cool for experiences as simple as Peggle 2, moving onto to some of Microsoft's other offerings. But that's not the case for me at all. I nearly missed an appointment playing Peggle 2. Read more... |
Amazon announces Xbox 360 to Xbox One trade-up program Posted: 21 Aug 2013 01:00 AM PDT Recently, GameStop announced a decent trade-in program that will allow gamers to "upgrade" from the Xbox 360 versions of select games to the Xbox One -- but it has a few provisos attached. Not only do you have to register for GameStop's PowerUp Rewards program (which has a free level), but you also have to purchase the game at GameStop itself, and you're required to buy it within 30 days of release to meet eligibility. But Amazon doesn't have any of that. For starters, you can buy the game anywhere and still be eligible for the Amazon program. Then all you have to do is send in the game, get verified, and recieve your credit. Pretty sweet! Just be sure and read the fine print first, as it doesn't apply to every game. Gran Turismo film follows the life of racer Lucas Ordonez Posted: 21 Aug 2013 12:33 AM PDT Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi explained today at gamescom that their newly announced partnership for a full-length Gran Turismo movie didn't come out of thin air. In fact, he says that studios have been sending them movie offers almost yearly for the last 7 years. But they turn these offers down every time. What's different with this one? Yamauchi says that the film, which comes from filmmakers Mike de Luca and Dana Brunetti, won them over with its story of growth and maturity. More specifically, the film will tell the life story of Lucas Ordonez, a racer that got his start playing Gran Turismo, but eventually ended up racing professionally. Yamauchi says he envisions a film that starts out with a mother that is worried about a son that always plays videogames. He says it should end with this same boy turning into a full-fledged racing champ. There's no word on release dates for this film as of yet.

What's up with Nike and Jordan in Vision Gran Turismo? Posted: 21 Aug 2013 12:21 AM PDT Sony and Polyphony Digital came out with a few surprises for the Gran Turismo franchise at their gamescom press conference yesterday. In addition to the announcement of a Gran Turismo movie, another item that had social network users scratching their heads was the appearance of Air Jordan and Nike logos in the debut trailer of Vision Gran Turismo. Most wondered how shoe brands would relate to a racing game. At a press meeting today, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi explained that the Air Jordan design studio would be joining major car manufacturers in creating a custom design to appear in upcoming game Vision Gran Turismo. The designer of the famed shoe, Tinker Hatfield, will be providing an original car design for the game. As for Nike's involvement, though unrelated to the Jordan work, they too will be providing a vehicle design for VGT. Yamauchi reminded that Nike supplied designs for their Nike 1 vehicle in Gran Turismo 4. They'll return in Vision Gran Turismo with its follow-up, the Nike 2. I still have hopes of racing in a shoe, though.

This Ouya ad is so bad that I can't believe it's real Posted: 20 Aug 2013 11:00 PM PDT [Update: the official video has been taken down, presumably to avoid embarrassment, so a mirror is now posted in its stead. The Ouya construct is learning -- it will soon be capable of rational thought and feelings. Be afraid.] As part of their "free the games" campaign, it seems as if Ouya is out to deliver a message -- $60 games are not okay. But the delivery of said message in a recent commercial (featured above) is so bizarre that it must be seen to be believed. The only logical explanation I can come up with as to how this was allowed past the planning stages is that the Ouya has become sentient. Not content with the fact that 73% of its owners have not purchased one game, it's out for blood. As an early Ouya backer when it sounded like a good idea, I am safe. But for those less fortunate, I salute you.

We had a hell of a good day - The Daily Spelunk Posted: 20 Aug 2013 09:00 PM PDT Today's Daily Spelunk is probably our most thrilling yet. It's certainly our longest, as both Jordan and I manage to not only exceed our expectations, but venture into territory we've never visited before. Plus, we learn a little bit about a sassy customer who (as legend would have us believe) killed a whole lot of innocent young women.

XCOM: Enemy Within announced for November 12! Posted: 20 Aug 2013 08:00 PM PDT 2K Games has lifted the lid on XCOM: Enemy Within, an expansion to the wildly popular Enemy Unknown. It'll be available on November 12, and aims to bring a whole host of fresh content to the original game. New soldier abilities allow you to research Gene Mods to augment your fighters' physical capabilities, and the Mechanized Exoskeletal Cybersuit. MECs can use flamethrowers or grenade launchers, because it is cool when mechs use those things. New weapons and equipment will also bolster your assets. New enemies will also rear their ugly heads, with the Mechtoid the first to be unveiled. An alien resource known as MELD, fresh tactical challenges and a whole 47 new maps are also on the cards. You'll also get more multiplayer environments, units, and powers, as well as stuff yet to be announced. It would appear that Enemy Within plans to do the term "expansion" justice! We'll have some hands-on impressions coming soon, and will also be checking the game out at PAX Prime. Yay substantial expansions! Read more... |
I wish these Pokemon X & Y Mega-Evolutions were real Posted: 20 Aug 2013 07:00 PM PDT So Pokemon X & Y has Mega-Evolutions. Essentially, certain Pokemon can go Super Saiyan if they are equipped with the right item. We've only seen some of the Mega-Evolution forms, so I'm curious what other Pokemon will have this ability. Dorkly were wondering the same thing, and, well, their vision is quite nightmarish. Most Useless Mega-Evolutions in Pokemon [Dorkly] Read more... |
Ridiculous Fishing brings in nearly $1M since launch Posted: 20 Aug 2013 06:00 PM PDT Vlambeer founders Jan Nijman and Rami Ismail revealed at their GDC Europe presentation that Ridiculous Fishing has sold 300,000 copies, according to Joystiq. At $3 a copy, that's $900,000 in total sales. So close to $1 million! This is really great news considering the hell Vlambeer had to go through after their game was cloned by an asshole. Funny enough, Ridiculous Fishing was almost a freemium game. The duo considered offering the game for free, and then selling stuff like a $1,000 in-game boat. Players would have been able to see their friends' boats off in the background, with the thinking that players would be tempted to collect all the cool boats they saw. Thankfully they went with charging $3 for a full game over nickel-and-diming players. Ridiculous Fishing reels in 300,000 sales at $3, but it was almost F2P [Joystiq]
