Wasteland 2 delayed, beta begins for backers in October

Posted: 21 Jul 2013 10:00 AM PDT

I haven't backed too many games on Kickstarter, but when I saw the campaign for Wasteland 2, it was a relative no-brainer. Brian Fargo and inXile entertainment really seem to know how to create a great Kickstarter and turned me into a backer without any previous Wasteland experience. However, poor planning can happen to cool people, just like we saw with Double Fine's Broken Age.

Big funding means bigger games, so the almost $3 million from Wasteland 2's Kickstarter campaign has forced the team to push back the release date, originally set for this October. Instead, a beta will begin for certain backers in October, with the release date to be set after feedback from the fans comes back. Mr. Fargo does make it a point to mention that  the project will "remain well financed for development, thus allowing us to ship a product without compromise." So all of that money isn't going to waste, instead making a bigger, better, and further away final product. I can't wait!

As mentioned yesterday, we had the chance to sit down with producer Dave Cox regarding the upcoming Lords of Shadow 2, and he was fortunately able to answer our most pressing question:

Sup Holmes falls and gives up with Matt Thorson

Posted: 21 Jul 2013 05:15 AM PDT

This Sunday on Sup Holmes we have up and coming game development veteran Matt Thorson on the program. Matt created the Ouya exclusive launch title Towerfall -- a one hit kill, bow and arrow 2D arena combat game. A lot of people have taken to calling the Ouya the "Towerfall box", as the game is so compelling that many don't feel the need to play anything else on the console.

Before Towerfall, Matt created a slew of other games, including the Jumper series, Runman, and the Adult Swim favorites Give Up Robot 1 and 2. You can play them for free right now. It's a great way to get warmed up for today's show, (gazes deeply into your eyes, furrowing brow) which you will watch live as it happens

We'll be talking to Matt about how he got into development, working with Ouya and Adult Swim games, his plans for Towerfall on PC (and maybe consoles), where he thinks this whole "videogames" thing is going, and whatever else he wants to talk about. Join us at 1pm PST/4pm EST for the whole shebang!

New Lords of Shadow 2 gameplay emphasizes exploration

Posted: 21 Jul 2013 05:00 AM PDT

In an unexpected surprise here at Comic Con, Konami showed off an extensive hands-off gameplay walkthrough detailing more of the game’s systems, music, and environs. The demo took place a brief time after the events seen in the E3 demo, after Dracula has awoken from his thousand-year slumber and is exploring his castle in an effort to reclaim his lost power.

There are more reasons than ever to be excited about this game, so find out what it was all about below.

Getting drawn into Scribblenauts Unmasked

Posted: 21 Jul 2013 02:00 AM PDT

I took a break from the crowded show floor of San Diego Comic-Con to relax for a bit with the latest build of 5th Cell's upcoming game, Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. Scribblenauts has always been one of those games that's easy to pick up but hard to break away from, but the new superhero twist in this latest game gives us even more to get lost in.

Star Ocean social RPG in the works for iOS and Android

Posted: 21 Jul 2013 01:00 AM PDT

Square Enix is taking one of its venerable franchises in a new direction with Star Ocean: Material Trader. A social role-playing game, the forthcoming title will eschew the series' traditional roots in favor of a card-based experience for mobile platforms.

Series producer Yoshinori Yamagishi is on board and is working alongside Circle of Mana team Hippos Lab to bring the game to iOS and Android devices later this year.

Great cosplay at San Diego Comic-Con 2013

Posted: 20 Jul 2013 07:30 PM PDT

San Diego Comic-Con never fails to impress when it comes to cosplay. Thursday and Friday were a bit limited when it came to costume variety, but today was a different story. In fact, the only thing stopping nearly endless cosplay photo opportunities this weekend was the heavy foot traffic in the convention center. In other words, catching up to the best costumes took a fair bit of work.

We've put together a gallery of the ones we managed to capture. This is fraction of the great getups we came across today.

Which is your favorite?
