Mamorukun Curse is coming to PlayStation Network next month, UFO Interactive has announced. The G.Rev-developer shoot-'em-up is set to arrive on July 16 for $19.99.

The shooter includes three original gameplay modes, online leaderboards, and seven unique playable characters. An additional two gameplay modes and alternate constumes are also included in the package, both of which originally released as downloadable content in the Japanese version.

The secret origin of Princess Peach

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 11:00 AM PDT

[Dtoid community blogger Voltech just blew my mind. --Mr Andy Dixon]

I know that opinions may vary pretty wildly on the game, but in all honesty, I like PlayStation All-Stars. I like it a lot more than I thought I would, and even months after its release I'll go out of my way to play online (now more than ever thanks to the presence of Emmett "Easy Money" Graves). It'll be interesting to see what comes next for the game, both in terms of new characters and in terms of a sequel that can improve on what we have already.

Still, if there's one thing I lament -- coming from someone who's spent years playing the Smash Bros. games -- it's the absence of a lot of true all-stars. Chief among them, Princess Peach. My brother swears up and down that she's overpowered/broken, but even if that was the case (and I suspect not, given her tier list placing), I still like her beyond just giving me a good shot at victory. There's just something refreshing -- or maybe "hilarious" is more like it -- about being able to fling around gorillas and smack evil warlords in the face with a tennis racket. She's THE videogame princess, and brings along with her an air of daintiness and goodness; she's like a breath of fresh air, in the sense that she's a respite against the MANLY MAN MEN that a lot of games would have you play as.

Don't get me wrong, there are other female characters that I enjoy playing as or having around (more so than Peach, and by a long shot), but for what it's worth, the pink-clad princess is more than enough to put a smile on my face... maybe because you never know what she'll be doing next.

Watch Dogs' mocap aims to capture the little details

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 09:00 AM PDT

In this behind the scenes trailer for Watch Dogs, Ubisoft Montreal gives us a brief rundown on the happenings in Watch Dogs' motion capture. Combat is obviously a big focus, with Aiden's hand-to-hand movements looking like something out of a Jason Bourne flick.

Also, Aiden can stick his hands in his pockets. The next-generation is truly here.

In all seriousness though, it's nice to see that even these little details aren't being neglected in a game as open as this.

Dragon Age 3: Inquisition listing spotted on Amazon Italy

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 08:00 AM PDT

In not so surprising news, Amazon Italy went and outed Dragon Age III: Inquisition as an Xbox One release. The posting has since been removed, but it comes just days after Mirror's Edge 2 was outed, twice. It seems retailers are EA's preferred method of leaks.

Dragon Age III was official announced in September of last year and was said to be coming to next-gen systems, even confirmed to be using DICE's Frostbite 3 engine as is the the next Mass Effect project. My fingers are crossed for some proper news at E3, as I (go ahead and call me crazy) enjoyed Dragon Age II quite a bit.

Weegee's my homeboy! More New Super Luigi U footage

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 07:00 AM PDT

Luigi propaganda is the kind of propaganda I can stand behind. Down with Big Brother! Green ain't so mean! Weegee is legion! Weegee is many!

Nintendo has uploaded a new trailer for the NSMBU expansion New Super Luigi U, which showcases more levels and gimmicks for Luigi, Bucken-Berry, Ala-Gold, and the invincible Nabbit to power through. Just as a refresher, all 82 of NSMBU's levels have been drastically altered, you now have only 100 seconds to clear a stage, and Luigi can jump higher and slide further than his brother.

The Japanese will get their Luigi U fix on eShop on June 19 and at retail on July 13. Americans can download the game on June 20 or purchase in-store on August 25, while Europeans can download it on June 20 or snag the box on July 26. Remember, the DLC version will require that you own a copy of NSMBU.

Early Pokemon design documents reveal whips and weirdos

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 06:00 AM PDT

A lot of people assume that the Pokémon games are for kids because they tend to be popular with that demographic, but that's not necessarily the case. From the sounds of it, the first Pokémon was developed largely around the personal interests of the series creator Satoishi "Dr. Bug" Taijiri, who loved bug-catching, videogames, and rubber monster TV shows like Ultra Seven. Put them all together and you have Pokémon, or as it was originally called, "Capsule Monsters." The name had to be changed due to copyright issues.

If you want to know more about the origins of the series, check out the feature over at Glitterberri. They've pulled some art and translated some text from the Japanese book Satoshi Tajiri: The Man who Created Pokémon for a little feature that may teach you a thing or two. Pokémon used to be near-Godzilla sized, and trainers used to punch them, or even whip them! That's just a start of the differences between Pokémon and Capsule Monsters.

I wonder if the series would have gone on to be as popular if stayed true to the original vision?

Dtoid TV Weekend: Sweet with Syrup

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 05:00 AM PDT

This weekend on Dtoid TV, we're going to be playing a whole lot of games and I do hope you'll watch us play them. I'm going to kick things off on the channel by playing a little Steambot Chronicles right now. Phil will be continuing his run of the entire Dead Rising series, shenanigans are likely to ensue when Johnny Luchador returns to The Sims 3, and Holmes will be interviewing the creative geniuses behind Guacamelee.

But if you have some time this weekend during one of the gaps between our shows (because, really, who would skip one of those?), I'd highly recommend you watch a movie called Syrup. It's based on the novel of same name by Max Barry (one of my favorites) and, while it isn't quite the same story on the silver screen, the message rings just as true: Marketing is everything and everything is marketing. It's available on-demand through Amazon ahead of its theatrical release next week.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles announced for NA and EU

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 04:00 AM PDT

Have you played Tales of Symphonia? If you haven't, know it's a face-punchingly fantastic game, with amazing music to match. If you missed it, or even if you played it and loved it, you'll be glad to know that at today's Tales of Festival in Japan, series producer Hideo Baga announced that both Tales of Symphonia and its sequel, Dawn of the New World, are coming to the PS3 as a HD combo release.

The game comes to Japan this Fall, but us here in the West can relax. Calm down. Breathe. Baba announced that it would also be coming to North America and Europe in 2014. He says "early 2014." Yes! You'll get the full details in Baba's message, shown above.

Also be sure to check out the Japanese trailer, below. I got goosebumps at the reveal because I'm a huge freakin' nerd.

Japanator reports that the PS2 version of the game will be used as the base, and that they'll be adding new artwork and new versions of the opening themes, among other things.

Thank you, Namco Bandai!

Kick off June with a wham bam Fishing Jam

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 03:00 AM PDT

Sophie Houlden held a Fishing Game Jame last week, resulting in many new fishing games for us to love, though sometimes the term "fishing" is used loosely. Sophie's game FisherClimer is still in progress, and hasn't actually integrated any fishing actions yet, but it does have an awesome polygons-meet-Gameboy art style and fun 3D Platforming.

Fishing mechanics are so rife with potential, just as much if not more so than the standard melee or gun combat you see in most action games. It's great to see so many motivated and intrepid developers take the call to put fishing in the spotlight. Who knows, the world's next Ridiculous Fishing may be just around the corner.

Senran Kagura bursts past 100,000 mark on Nintendo 3DS

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 02:00 AM PDT

Senran Kagura Burst has shifted more than 100,000 units, series producer Kenichiro Takaki has announced. It's taken 37 weeks for the Nintendo 3DS title to reach the milestone, a mark its PlayStation Vita successor achieved in its opening week.

Marvelous AQL has yet to localize an entry in the sidescrolling action series for Western audiences. Despite overwhelming fan support, XSEED boss Ken Berry has expressed concern about how the game's risque subject matter will play with the more conservative culture in the United States.

Know what's a great idea? A Contra remake for iOS

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 01:00 AM PDT

A few months ago, Chinese developer PunchBox Studios unleashed upon the Asian market Contra: Evolution, an iOS remake of the original NES classic that adds touch controls, in-app purchases, and high-definition graphics. Konami saw fit to bring the title out West, thus it appeared on the US App Store yesterday.

Since this sounded like the best idea in the world, I decided to pay the paltry $0.99 and give it a quick whirl.

After an exhaustive three-minute session, I've condensed my thoughts into the following review:

El Shaddai director acquires IP from UTV Ignition

Posted: 01 Jun 2013 12:00 AM PDT

UTV Ignition has all but faded into obscurity since the firm's parent company was acquired by Disney last year. Following the transferal of Dragon's Crown to Atlus, the publisher has now sold off what's ostensibly its last remaining asset, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron.

Japanese studio Crim has acquired the rights to the intellectual property, putting the title back in the hands of its creator, Takeyasu Sawaki.

The rights to the intellectual property have been acquired by Japanese studio Crim, which was founded by El Shaddai director Takeyasu Sawaki. Crim has announced the deal includes "prequel, sequel and all other derivative rights of the existing game."

Sawaki's studio "will work with the entertainment industry to develop a potential El Shaddai business moving forward," finally delivering on Ignition's long-abandoned hopes to turn the religion-inspired action platformer into a franchise.

New Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies trailer, 'nuff said

Posted: 31 May 2013 10:00 PM PDT

In yesterday's special Japan-only Nintendo Direct, Capcom shared additional details on the upcoming Monster Hunter 4 and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies. For the latter, we've got a brand new trailer to salivate over.

As with Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney (like, when is that coming out here, guys?), there is a mix of 3D in-game models and hand-drawn cutscenes. This trailer shows more of Nick's new sidekick Kizuki Kokone, who will be called Athena Cykes out West, and it also gives us glimpses of returning faces, like an older Pearl Fey and Miles Edgeworth's sick-ass Steel Samurai statue.

Dual Destinies will be out in Japan on July 25, but the rest of the world will have to wait for a digital-only release later in the fall.

The legendary Atari E.T. landfill is getting excavated

Posted: 31 May 2013 08:00 PM PDT

E.T. for the Atari 2600 has a crazy story behind it, and it's something any videogame fan should learn about. Long story short, Atari crushed all the copies of E.T. they couldn't sell and buried it under concrete in a landfill.

This was back in 1983, and now here we are 20 years later to find out Canadian-based Fuel Industries plan to excavate the Atari dump site for a documentary based on the Alamogordo landfill it's located at. The Alamogordo City Commission already approved this, and digging begins on Tuesday.

It's said that the dump site contains truckloads worth of games, consoles, and other products that Atari just had to get rid of. Historical I find this event kind of cool. But at the same time, people are about to dig up a bunch of broken consoles and games that barely anyone really cares about anymore.

The Daily Hotness: Cos I can play

I've had this on repeat for the last couple hours, and I think that might be a problem. So like the rest of my problems, I'll refuse to confront them, and drag others down with me. Enjoy! This video's honorable mention goes to the Mortal Kombat outfits at the 1:40 mark.

Today, Microsoft reveals they are investing $1 billion into core titles, Drinkbox talks of a possible Guacamelee sequel, former Vigil creative director comments on what the future of Darksiders could have been, and Best Buy Canada lists at the stores that will have playable Nintendo E3 demos.
