Take a look at Cyborg in Infinite Crisis Posted: 28 May 2013 04:00 PM PDT The latest character to join Infinite Crisis is Cyborg. Cyborg's abilities are detailed in this new trailer, and most of his attacks focus on him using projectile blasts with his arm cannon. Not much of a fan of Cyborg, but I'm super curious to see what his alternate dimension personalities will be like. So far the Atomic universe character designs have all been amazing. Heck, just look at how badass Atomic Green Lantern is in the picture below! He's missing his freaking arm! Give me more of that, please.
Uematsu and Hamauzu sits down with y'all tomorrow Posted: 28 May 2013 03:00 PM PDT A little while ago, the London Symphony Orchestra asked all of you to send in your questions for Nobuo Uematsu and Masashi Hamauzu, and tomorrow all the answers will be revealed. Well at least the answers you most wanted. This marks the very first time that the two well known and beloved composers sit down together to speak unfiltered about video game music together, and sharing it with an worldwide audience over a web broadcast. The two arrived in London today to attend Final Symphony on Thursday, LSO's first live video game concert. The web chat will be livestreamed on LSO's Facebook and on their Google+ page at 5.30pm BST, about 10:30am EST, so get your alarms on and treat it as a pre-E3 stream training, you're gonna be watching a lot of those in a week's time.
| Game Debate to the Death! Favorite Half-Life game? Posted: 28 May 2013 02:40 PM PDT In the previous debate we welcomed the community to vent their frustrations over all the series they wished would just die, and this week we discuss a game that has yet to even be born. As for the winner of the most hated game series of the last debate:
These debates have grown incredibly large, and when I first started them back in 2006 I hadn't anticipated the advent of Disqus crowd voting. A vote for Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed rose to the top, but both of them netted a large amount of separate upvote and downvote comments, which really blurred which metric I should be using to pick a winner. Because of this clusterfun of a comments issue, moving forward I've decided to experiment with using PollDaddy. Head to the next page to cast your vote and view the poll results! |
Building race tracks in Disney Infinity Posted: 28 May 2013 02:00 PM PDT The latest on Disney Infinity shows off what you'll be able to do in terms of racing. You can design and build any kind of race track you want to, and then race them however you'd like. Race on foot, in cars, fly -- even race on horses! The more I see of Disney Infinity, the more it reminds me that I want a sequel to The Incredibles already. It was such a good movie, and totally deserves a sequel. I know, I'll just make up my own sequel in Infinity's Toy Box mode. Thanks for nothing, Pixar!
Posted: 28 May 2013 01:00 PM PDT The biggie this week goes to Insomniac's Fuse for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It's a four-player cooperative third-person shooter and, well, isn't all the memorable. Check out our official review to see what we had to say about the whole experience. Other notable titles to look out for this week include Grid 2, The Night of the Rabbit, and my personal pick of the week: The Swapper. What are you looking to get this week?
| Nazi Robots, Scary Chainsaw Guys & Sonic The Hedgehog Posted: 28 May 2013 12:30 PM PDT
Today, we talk about Wolfenstein: The New Order and The Evil Within, both of which were previewed by the valiant and swarthy Hamza Aziz. Sonic: Lost World looks surprisingly uncrappy, and some Scottish kid has been turned into a god because he tapped on a cube in Peter Molyneux's silly Curiosity game. Finally, Tara played around with Anthony Burch in the new Borderlands 2 DLC, Tiny Tiny's Assault On Dragon Keep. |
Universal Studios Japan will use guns to shoot zombies Posted: 28 May 2013 12:00 PM PDT Universal Studios Japan -- or as the cool kids in Japan call it, USJ -- will open up a limited-time attraction this summer that will have guests using a model gun to fire at zombies and other creatures. This "Resident Evil The Real" is an attraction that will be held in the Palace Theater, in the New York area of the park, says Kotaku. According to Famitsu, the shooting system at this attraction will be similar to what is used by police for training exercises. And just like Resident Evil, there will be limited ammo, so mind your shots, rookies. Visitors will be shooting at standard zombies, but Lickers will also make an appearance. They're going all out with the theme. Famitsu shows a Biohazard-themed menu item that is supposed to be pasta, though it looks like (and is called) brains. Meat hunks of something are served on the side, apparently. This sounds something like what they did last year at the same park. From what I heard, it went over well.
Humble Indie Bundle says you can't spell great without 8 Posted: 28 May 2013 11:30 AM PDT By now, you all should be intimately familiar with the Humble Bundle, which lets customers pay what they want for DRM-free copies of videogames, often includes soundtracks, and puts a portion of the proceeds toward charity. Humble Indie Bundle 8 is no different in those respects, but it's particularly notable as it includes some of our favorites from the past couple years. Included in the bundle are Awesomenauts, Capsized, Dear Esther, Little Inferno, and Thomas Was Alone. Those paying above the average (currently sitting at $5.68) will also receive Hotline Miami and Proteus. Quite an impressive bundle, indeed.
Xbox One partnership worth $3 billion for AMD Posted: 28 May 2013 11:00 AM PDT AMD are behind Xbox One's system-on-a-chip, and the deal to provide Microsoft with this heart for their new system is worth more than $3 billion. This information was pulled from the LinkedIn profile of Bob Feldstein, former AMD VP of strategic development, and now Nvidia VP of technology licensing. It seems that he worked deals for the next generation of consoles before heading out. His profile says that the multi-year custom silicon solution they worked up for the Xbox One was a deal that was valed at $3 billion. AMD also has chips in the Wii U as well as upcoming Sony next-gen console PS4. GamesIndustry reminds that Feldstein was one of several execs that were accused of stealing AMD documents before leaving for Nvidia.
Live show: Super House Of Dead Ninjas with Megadev Posted: 28 May 2013 10:45 AM PDT [Mash Tactics airs Monday through Friday at 4p.m. Pacific on Dtoid.TV. Watch King Foom play a variety of games, each day with its own theme. With a heavy focus on community and viewer interaction, you can be as much a part of the show as anything else.] You won't want to miss Mash Tactics tonight, as we jump into the tough as nails action platformer, Super House Of Dead Ninjas, with some of the fine gentlemen from Megadev. Join in the conversation as we ask all the classic, hard hitting questions like, "what is your favorite food?" and "boobs or butts?" all while I get ripped to shreds by the game, over, and over again! We'll also be giving a few copies away at the beginning of the show, so get there early, but, even if you don't win one, SHODN is 50% on Steam today, and you'd be silly to not grab it while you can, for what I think is an amazing price. QotD: What is the toughest game you've ever finished?
Apparently people don't like Journey cosplay Posted: 28 May 2013 10:00 AM PDT Mega64's latest parody sees them taking on Journey as they simply go about town looking for friendship. Sadly no one wants to be friends with a well-dressed armless creature.
Nintendo to detail Monster Hunter 4 and Ace Attorney 5 Posted: 28 May 2013 09:30 AM PDT In an upcoming dual-game specific Nintendo Direct, Nintendo will be talking about two highly anticipated titles: Monster Hunter 4 and Ace Attorney 5. The broadcast will be in Japanese and takes place on May 31, which is right around the corner! While I may not be able to understand anything they say, I do look forward to seeing these games in action. Personally, though, I'm more looking forward to the Nintendo Direct that will detail the new Super Smash Bros. I'm really excited for Monster Hunter 4, but I still feel as if I've barely scratched the surface of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate!
Wargaming unveiling first console title at E3 Posted: 28 May 2013 09:00 AM PDT The makers of World of Tanks will have a massive, 10,000 square foot booth at E3 this year where they'll be showing off a handful of titles. It's here Wargaming will be premiering their first ever console title, being developed by Wargaming West. Otherwise we can expect new stuff to checkout with World of Warplanes, and we'll be seeing World of Warships making its first public showing. I'm honestly quite interested to see what Wargaming's console title will be. What do you think it is?
How can Microsoft sway public opinion of Xbox One? Posted: 28 May 2013 08:30 AM PDT Microsoft's announcement of the Xbox One has been met with no shortage of derision. Concerns over the future of the used games market, the console's need to connect to the internet and a failure to effectively communicate the device's value to the consumer have led to one of the most negatively received console announcements in history. But it isn't over yet. With E3 on the horizon and several months left before the release of the hardware, what can Microsoft do to turn the tide of public opinion?
Gunpoint demo available now, releases next week Posted: 28 May 2013 08:00 AM PDT Gunpoint, and indie game about hacking, sneaking, and knocking guys through windows, now has a demo available on the main site for you all to get your certainly-grubby mitts on. Pre-orders are also available, with the base game costing only $9, a whole $1 off of the retail price! Also, you should totally pre-order through the developer's website, since you'll get a DRM-free copy plus a Steam copy and you know where most of your money is going. After finishing the demo, I feel as if a week has never been further away in my life. The game is great at making players feel like complete badasses, frog-jumping their way around the map while simultaneously wiring a light switch to open a door. Play the demo and if you like it, pre-order the game.
| Conker's Bad Fur Day director's commentary is glorious Posted: 28 May 2013 07:30 AM PDT I said DAMN! Nintendo 64-era Rare is on a roll lately! I may be tempted to go buy an N64 off eBay right now and have a week-long Rare session. Three big shots from Conker's Bad Fur Day's dev staff have decided to knock back a few rounds, play some Conker, and reminisce about the good ol' days. We've got Chris Seavor, director and voice of the titular squirrel himself; Chris Marlow, programmer and voice of The Great Mighty Poo; and Shawn Pile, programmer and f*ck-all else. Together, the trio spew a constant stream of obscenities and nonsensical ramblings, and I wouldn't have it any other way! Makes me excited for whatever Seavor's new studio, Gory Detail, has in store for the Wii U. Please, please, please, fill that game with even more irreverent British potty humor! | Posted: 28 May 2013 07:00 AM PDT Have you played Dragon Quest? Did you like Dragon Quest? Yes? Then boy, do I have a game for you. Dragon Fantasy Book 1 is a celebration of the NES RPGs many of us grew up with. This is, for my money, an equal parts great and terrible thing. The game sticks so closely to the script that it carries with it some of the less desirable aspects of the genre (rote grinding, difficulty spikes, etc.) coupled with a throwaway script, yet it managed to slowly grow on me in its latter half thanks to some lovely pixel art, good music, and amusing characters. |
Contest: Win a copy of Bam fu for iOS! Posted: 28 May 2013 06:30 AM PDT Our friends at Game Oven Studios have given us eight codes for their new friendship-destroying iOS game Bam fu! To win a copy for yourself, all you need to do is drop the funniest kung fu-themed GIF or JPG into the comments below. The eight best, most ridiculous kung fu facial expressions or otherwise over-the-top images at the end of the day today will earn themselves a code! You have until 11:59 PM Pacific today to enter, and the contest is open to anyone on the planet Earth who can redeem an iOS code. (Sorry, no Klingons.) You can comment as many times as you like! Good luck, and have fun!
Wolfenstein: The New Order just isn't doing it for me Posted: 28 May 2013 06:00 AM PDT Bethesda is bringing back Wolfenstein, the first-person shooter that lets you kill countless Nazi bastards. The New Order takes place during the 1960s in an alternate history Earth where the Nazis have taken over the entire planet with their highly advance robot fighting force. It all looks hopeless, that is, until William "B.J." Blazkowicz finally awakens from his coma. I got to see a good chunk of the game at a recent preview showing, and story wise, Wolfenstein has this very campy, almost Quentin Tarantino style going for it. Gameplay wise, well, it's looking like the standard FPS experience that I'm quite frankly just getting tired of.
Sonic Lost World trailer reminds me of Sonic X-treme Posted: 28 May 2013 05:30 AM PDT Those passive-aggressive comments I made when SEGA announced six new characters for Sonic Lost World? Yeah, I take them all back. The debut trailer has appeared (a day before the promised May 29th reveal date), and it looks... wow. What struck me immediately was how similar it looks to that old demo for the canceled SEGA Saturn title, Sonic X-treme. The Saturn game used a fish eye view to display the world as a tube with a gravitational pull towards the core. Lost World takes that same approach and adds a dash of Super Mario Galaxy. On top of that, the environments look closer to those from the Genesis era than ever before. There's always the possibility that SEGA will muck it all up somehow, but for now, I'm stoked. Sonic Lost World will arrive on Wii U and 3DS later this year. Sonic Lost Worlds Debut Trailer [YouTube via GoNintendo]
A return to true survival horror with The Evil Within Posted: 28 May 2013 05:00 AM PDT A return to true survival horror. That's what Shinji Mikami, father of Resident Evil, and his new studio, Tango Gameworks, aims to do with The Evil Within. I saw the game in action at an E3 pre-show recently, and they've certainly nailed down the horror aspect. The overall design structure of the The Evil Within reminded me a lot of Resident Evil 4's. Mix in the nightmarish creatures that would be right at home in the Silent Hill series with the set pieces from the Saw franchise and you have yourself a nightmarish cocktail of pure terror.
Tecmo Koei's E3 line-up includes playable Yaiba Posted: 28 May 2013 04:30 AM PDT Tecmo Koei has a pretty solid line-up for E3 2013, set to go down in a few weeks in Los Angeles. At the top of the list, the Team Ninja and Keiji Inafune tag team title Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z will be playable for the first time at the show. They'll also show off Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate, which, if you haven't heard, will be released on September 3. Along with these two, we'll also see Dynasty Warriors 8, Vita title Toukiden, and GUST's RPG for both Vita and PS3, Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland.
Darkwood is my survival horror roguelike dream Posted: 28 May 2013 04:00 AM PDT A new trailer for Darkwood made itself available today, showcasing some pre-alpha gameplay. It's a top-down affair with elements of survival horror and roguelike gameplay, and is that torchlight doubling as a health status? Yes it is! The game's currently trying to get approved on Steam Greenlight, and has some crowdfunding stuff in the works. It looks like the studio has a great vision and knows what it's doing with this, so I'm pretty excited to see more. It's definitely pressing all the buttons needed to make me happy. Anybody else into it?

MS says gamers will buy everything, including Xbox One Posted: 28 May 2013 02:30 AM PDT Angry about the Xbox One? Put off by Microsoft's increasingly anti-consumer attitude? Company man Phil Spencer isn't worried. In fact, he's confident you'll buy anything it puts out, because that's what gamers do. "We believe that if all you want is gaming, you'll still pick us, at the end of the day," Spencer dismissively told OXM. "The super core guys, they will buy everything. They will buy all devices, but most people really only do buy one device, and if you're going to think about what that one device is, we believe an all-in-one system that does the best games and TV and entertainment will be something that's really unique." The general message is that Microsoft didn't feel it was important to show games at the Xbox One reveal, because the custom of gamers is already taken as granted. It'll be pushing the One to other types of buyers, those not already considered dominated. "We're going to continue to innovate, continue to add new experiences, and make it better every single year," he continued. "Right now we're eight years into this platform -- we didn't have a single music video [at launch], we didn't have any entertainment, and now we're seeing half our usage globally driven from entertainment apps. And so we think the story will evolve and continue to get better over time."
Rayman Legends coming to PS Vita Posted: 28 May 2013 01:30 AM PDT Ubisoft has confirmed that former Wii U exclusive Rayman Legends will be coming to the PlayStation Vita as well as Xbox 360 and PS3. It'll launch alongside its bigger console brethren in late September. The Vita alternative boasts five exclusive levels utilizing the system's rear touchpad, as well as two exclusive costumes -- a Prince of Persia outfit for Rayman, and Sam Fisher gear for Globox. All the local and online multiplayer features will be making their way to the littler version. Rayman Legends is due August 30 in Europe, September 3 in North America.
Devilish delight: Shin Megami Tensei IV hands-on Posted: 28 May 2013 01:00 AM PDT In a room full of peers I embarrassed myself. A few weeks back, I found myself in a meeting room along with folks that head up a lot of the other gaming websites and magazines in America. After a brief presentation, Atlus started to ask the group for a few volunteers to be the first to play Shin Megami Tensei IV. Before their sentence finished I found my peers laughing at me. They were laughing at a grunt that came forth from my mouth, almost involuntarily. I found myself frantically waving my hands in the air, insisting to be among the first to play. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited about Shin Megami Tensei IV.
Hands-on with Borderlands 2's take on Dungeons & Dragons Posted: 28 May 2013 12:00 AM PDT It's been a hell of ride, with a fair share of high and low points, but the Borderlands 2 season of content is finally at an end. As the last campaign downloadable content for Borderlands 2, there's a considerable amount of pressure for Tiny Tina's: Assault on Dragon Keep to deliver big. "Big" certainly seems to be the keyword here, as Dragon Keep crams a substantial amount of content when compared to the last few campaign packs.
Episode 2 of Bravoman is about crazy ninja love Posted: 27 May 2013 10:00 PM PDT The adventures of Bravoman, Super-Unequaled Hero of Excellence, continues with the second episode of his new web cartoon. As before, voice actor legend Rob Paulsen is the number one reason to tune in, lending his talents to our leading man. Episode 2 welcomes a new character, Waya Hime, the psycho ninja chick who wants to both date and murder Bravoman. Waya Hime is voice by Romi Dames, who according to Wikipedia voices one of the main characters on the Italian cartoon Winx Club. I don't watch Winx Club nor do I know anyone who does, so I'll look further down her filmography... Oh! She was on Bill Nye, the Science Guy! Yeah, let's run with that! Romi Dames, supporting starlet of Bill Nye, the Science Guy! Bravoman Episode 2: Perky Princess of Pointy Peril [YouTube]
Posted: 27 May 2013 07:01 PM PDT Insomniac turned a lot of heads when it first revealed Overstrike -- a colorful, cartoony, over-the-top cooperative shooter that looked promisingly hilarious. Even more heads turned, but for entirely the wrong reasons, when Overstrike mutated into Fuse -- a new and toned down version that took itself more seriously and, to be quite fair, looked considerably less interesting. While the cynical among us saw Overstrike as yet another victim of the heavily focus-tested, leader following, perpetually terrified mainstream game industry, Insomniac worked hard to assure gamers Fuse would be as exciting and amusing as the original incarnation promised. I wish I could say we were wrong and Insomniac was right. I can't. Fuse is everything we expected ... and less.
| The Daily Hotness: Call the police, baby Posted: 27 May 2013 04:59 PM PDT The thing that gets me about this video is just how calm everyone involved is. The guy on the hood of the truck is just hanging out hoping someone will call the police for him, the woman in the car is cool with calling the police, and the guy in the truck just keeps on driving like he normally would. Things were quiet around here today as it was a national holiday here in the US, but still gamers said they want a DRM-free PS4, Xbox One will be region locked, a new Final Fantasy IX side quest was found, and not much else happened on 5/27/2013.
