Only possible with next-gen technology Posted: 26 May 2013 03:30 PM PDT Remember back during the PlayStation 3 E3 presentation when Sony touted "real-time weapon change" as a next-generation feature? Consider that bar officially raised. "Next Gen Technology" [YouTube via reddit]
Sha-ZAM! Infinite Crisis reveals a marvellous champion Posted: 26 May 2013 08:00 AM PDT I have always enjoyed the iconic heroes found within the DC universe, such as your Batman and Aquaman, but some it is always nice to see some light shed on lesser known top-tier hero. Captain Marvel, or Shazam as he is now being referred to in the New 52 DC line and in Infinite Crisis, has always been one of my favorites, even if the hood makes him look a little like Robin from Batman: Arkham City. In this video, Turbine and WB Games lays down some knowledge on the kind of pain that Shazam brings to Infinite Crisis. As a hard-hitting melee character, the good Captain loves to job right into the thick of things, and with his ability to quickly boost his offensive and defensive skills he is sure to make a solid addition to any team. Infinite Crisis is shaping up to be a nice little MOBA alternative for those of us who enjoy watching our favourite DC characters smack each other around, and who don't have easy access to Injustice. Still I rather prefer the older 1940's costume design for Captain Marvel than his current attire, but what do I know about superhero fashion.
Sup Holmes arrests development with Rami and J.W. Posted: 26 May 2013 07:30 AM PDT Last time we had Rami Ismail of Vlambeer on the Sup Holmes, he and his studio were probably best known for Super Crate Box. Since then, things have really exploded for the studio. Ridiculous Fishing took the world by storm on iOS, while Luftrouasers is poised and ready to blow up on PS3, PS Vita, Mac and PC. It's been a long road for the two man team, and I happy to say that we'll be joined by both of them this afternoon for a online live stream chat for all to cherish. We'll be talking to Rami and J.W. about their growing success, how they choose their collaborators, where they want to go moving forward, and how they plan to get there. They may even announce a whole new game (but they totally might not, because that's Vlambeer). Join us at 1pm PST/4pm EST for all the conversations between three men and a Sinistar you can handle.
Zombies in Oz?! American McGee reveals more on OZombie Posted: 26 May 2013 07:00 AM PDT From the creative and somewhat disturbing mind of American McGee comes the reveal for his latest title; a twisted take on the classic tale of Dorothy in OZombie. Since the beginning of May, the OZombie Facebook group has been alight with all manner of concept art for the title. From the looks of the concept art, the art design seems to be gearing itself more to a steampunk aesthetic; which is not a far cry from what American McGee and Spicy Horse have done in the past. The OZombie Facebook group has also been giving away Alice-related gifts to fans for opinion on some of the more memorable moments in the Oz series. A very nice gesture from a team that want to pay homage to this long running series and get to their fans involved in the process too. Although there may not be much in terms of what the story may be so far, hopefully these concepts will help tide over American McGee fans. Those Munchkin Zombies are terrifying though.
Molyneux's Curiosity completed! Cube contents reveal! Posted: 26 May 2013 06:00 AM PDT Finally, after seven months, fans have finally reached the center of Peter Molyneux's Curiosity. The lucky tap was done by Bryan Henderson of Edinburgh, and was revealed by Molyneux earlier today on Twitter. Bryan, being an awesome fellow, decided to share the contents of Curiosity with the rest of the community, and I don't think this was something that anyone expected. The short video features a miniature Molyneux doing what he does best: talking about his current game. He describes the overwhelming response that the title garnered and thanked the fans for their support. Curiosity's big reveal relates to the god game 22 Cans has been working on for a while now, Godus. While the reveal in itself was a bit like watching patiently with enthusiasm as a firecracker fails to go off, the interesting part is how the winner of Curiosty will be linked to this new game. In Godus, Bryan will not only be the big deity on campus but will also have a hand in creating the rules governing the game. As an added bonus, Molyneux also revealed that Bryan will get to share in the revenue generated by Godus. Fame, fortune, and godly power -- not a bad deal.
Impressions: The Art of Dead Space Enhanced Edition Posted: 26 May 2013 05:00 AM PDT Earlier this week I got the chance to take a closer look at one of Titan Books' recent iOS endeavors, Awakening: The Art of Halo 4 Enhanced Edition. While I enjoyed seeing the beautiful and picturesque vistas created by John Liberto and Sparth as well as the rest of the art team at 343 Industries, I couldn't wait to dive into the messy and terror-filled corridors of The Art of Dead Space Enhanced Edition. As another entry into Titan Books Enhanced Edition series of digital artbooks, EA and Visceral Games have put together quite the amazing collection of artwork, animation, and anecdotes to satisfy all types of Dead Space fans. On top of all that, each section has well detailed written commentary regarding the design challenges presented by the three main games of the series.
Mario film 20th anniversary message from John Leguizamo Posted: 26 May 2013 01:00 AM PDT May 28 marks the 20th anniversary of the infamous Super Mario Bros. movie. Whether you love it or love to hate it, it's nonetheless a landmark film that holds a special place in gaming history. To celebrate the grand occasion, Super Mario Bros. The Movie Archive held a special midnight screening at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles this past Friday. It was a big to-do, with props on display and a Q&A session with several members of the film's production staff. But the coolest treat of all was a special message from Luigi Mario himself, actor John Leguizamo. You've no doubt heard by now that the actual filming was something of a nightmare for all involved, yet Leguizamo is happy that the movie has had such a lasting legacy regardless. He remembers some of the good times on set, like when he f*cked up Bob Hoskins' hand with the sliding door of the Mario Bros. van! Great goin', Weegee! On the topic of the Mario film, allow me to pimp my other gig for a sec and let you know that the third issue of Nintendo Force is out, which contains a juicy feature on the Super Mario Bros. movie. Check it out, son! John Leguizamo's Super Mario Bros. 20th Anniversary Message [YouTube]
Conker's Bad Fur Day creator working on Wii U project Posted: 25 May 2013 11:00 PM PDT The man behind Conker's Bad Fur Day has a Wii U title in the works, it seems. Christopher Seavor, the project leader on Rare's Nintendo 64 swansong and its Xbox remake, has expressed a desire to acquire a few Wii U development kits before winter. In addition to his work on the Conker franchise, Seavor provided the voice for the scatological squirrel and helped develop various other Rare projects. Seavor has since parted ways with Rare to form a new studio, Gory Detail. Conker's Creator is working on something for Wii U [Game Informer]
