| Awww: Bungie visits a recovering child at the hospital Posted: 21 Jan 2013 03:00 PM PST As much as the negativity online can eat away at your mind if you aren't careful, the Internet can also be an overwhelmingly positive place. Take, for instance, Reddit user fiscal_ posting about his five-year-old son Brady needing to have a liver transplant. The surgery was a success, and during his recovery at the Seattle Children's Hospital, Bungie stopped by bearing gifts. The studio brought a signed get-well card, a t-shirt, and a sweet replica Carter helmet from Halo: Reach. Pictures do this story better justice than I ever could, so please, take a look for yourself. In a separate post, fiscal_ writes that "My family can't thank Bungie enough. I know that they have had a huge impact on how well my son has been recovering after his surgery." He says that Brady "likes the idea of Halo more than playing Halo. His interest has transcended the games, he would rather battle it out with his Halo action figures, anyway. The Spartan storyline just gets his imagination going, it's wonderful." Bungie helps a boy find his smile again [Eurogamer] |
| Temple Run 2 has been downloaded 20 million times already Posted: 21 Jan 2013 02:30 PM PST Temple Run 2, which was just released four days ago, has already been download over 20 million times on the Apple App Store. Six million downloads occurred on the first day alone. The game became the number one free app within eight hours after release, and is currently sitting at the number two spot in the Top Grossing App category. Holy Batman that's impressive. Here's some more crazy statistics: People have already played over 210 million sessions of Temple Run 2, which equals over 1,775 years of total gameplay time. At this rate, Temple Run 2 could very well reach Temple Run numbers by the end of the year, especially once it hits other platforms. The original has been downloaded over 170 million times across the App Store, Google Play, and Amazon. I guess you could say Temple Run has easily been a ... run away hit HAHAHAAHAHAHA! |
| Riot bans two more 'toxic' pro League of Legends players Posted: 21 Jan 2013 02:00 PM PST You would be forgiven for thinking that the very public example of professional League of Legends player IWillDominate getting banned due to unruly behavior would have made people think twice before repeating history. Not so: PC Gamer has picked up on the banning of two more players who will now be unable to compete in the Championship Series for a period of one year. Player enVision was reported in 29 percent of total matches -- a rate six times greater than the average European player -- and had a peak harassment score in the worst 0.06 percent of all European accounts this month. The second player, Linak, shared a similar peak harassment score and reportedly had behavior which "worsened in the past three months, even as his team advanced into the upcoming [LCS] Season Three EU Qualifier." According to Riot Games, "Their toxic behavior in-game has led to a recent permanent ban of their accounts, and, for both players, this is not their first permaban. We're now taking action in order to help ensure that players seeking to compete in the LCS represent the principles of good sportsmanship and clean play." | Ubisoft say no delay with Splinter Cell: Blacklist for PC Posted: 21 Jan 2013 01:30 PM PST Despite already suffering a delay to August, Ubisoft has promised that the PC version of Splinter Cell: Blacklist won't be suffering from the publisher's poor track record in same-day console/PC releases. Speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Ubisoft says that Splinter Cell: Blacklist is still on track for an August 20 release on PC, the same day as the console version. With Far Cry 3 releasing same date and Assassin's Creed III only suffering a small delay, here's hoping Ubisoft is mending its ways. | Last call to win a Ghost Destructoid Bobblehead! Posted: 21 Jan 2013 01:30 PM PST Want one? Just leave a comment and I'll pick a random winner! The deadline is January 22, noonish! While cleaning up our Dtoid HQ (an event that is the equivalent of a full moon) I came across one last crate of Destructoid Bobbleheads, which were sold out years ago. It was loosely modelled after Mr. Destructoid's appearance in Bomberman on the Xbox 360 and PS3 by a sculptor in the US (Thanks Hito!) and manufactured by Horizon Toy Group. They're about as heavy as a coffee cup full of gravy and sturdy enough to defend yourself against pigeons. This seems to be part of a special batch that we ordered unpainted so that we could dip them in gold paint and award them as prizes, give them to friends who wanted to do custom paint jobs, use in blood rituals, and so on. Unintentionally, they look pretty cool as a minimalist art piece in a white room. Note: There *may* still be a full color one in this box, but I'm not sure. I'm opening them up to sign and number each one, and won't tell if I find one. Let's have an old fashioned blind box for hardcore collectors, shall we? SOLD OUT! The rest are on sale via Paypal at their original price of $20 with $4 domestic shipping within the US or $10 worldwide (I'll pay the difference, New Zealand dudes). I'll choose the winner once they sell out and are all packed and ready to ship. There are only 25 of them on sale, so they may go quick. Good luck!

| Nintendo may alter its office requirement for eShop devs Posted: 21 Jan 2013 01:00 PM PST As someone who works from home, Nintendo's insistence that potential eShop game developers have dedicated office space has always rubbed me the wrong way. The quality of the individual title, not whether studios can pass another barrier to entry, should be what truly matters. Going off a tweet by Nintendo's Dan Adelman, the company might be changing the policy going forward. Asked if the office requirement was still true on Twitter, Adelman responded by saying "Ask me again in a couple of weeks. ;)" And you just know something is up when the emoticons come out. Based on some of the praise given to the Wii U eShop, I've gotten the sense that Nintendo was finally able to take a good, hard look in the mirror with respect to its treatment of independent developers as well as its broader strategy for digital distribution. One can only hope that the audience is there on both 3DS and Wii U to embrace these types of games. | Battle Robot Spirits: Tons of anime mecha in one game Posted: 21 Jan 2013 12:30 PM PST
This opening video for upcoming Japanese PSP game Battle Robot Spirits will either be a who's who of anime mecha or a mess of lasers and boxy metal heaps to you, depending on your interest level. I'm a huge f*cking nerd, so it does something for me. Over 20 mecha anime series are jumbled together for this brawler. Anime fans will recognize Macross Frontier, Code Geass, Armored Core, and even Full Metal Panic? appearances in the line-up. You'll find a full list of included series below. Too bad it's a PSP title. Vita would make more sense to me. Included mecha anime for Battle Robot Spirits, via Crunchyroll: Psalm of Planets Eureka SeveN |
| Max Payne 3's 'Deathmatch Made in Heaven' out tomorrow Posted: 21 Jan 2013 12:00 PM PST Deathmatch Made in Heaven, Max Payne 3's final piece of downloadable content, will launch tomorrow in North America -- marking the fulfillment of the DLC schedule that Rockstar laid out several months ago. As with nearly all previous packs, Deathmatch Made in Heaven will contain new weapons, items, and bursts for players to get their hands on; however, the pack also adds new co-op and competitive modes -- Dead Men Walking, Run & Stun, Marked Man, and Time Attack -- which Rockstar has fully detailed here. This DLC will cost 800 Microsoft Points or $9.99 on PC and PlayStation Network. The pack won't launch in Europe until January 30, 2013. | Japan gets snazzy new red and blue slim PS3 systems Posted: 21 Jan 2013 11:30 AM PST Words I can't stand:
But that's all I've got for these new Japanese PS3 models -- snazzy. The glossy Garnet Red and Azurite Blue CECH-4000B 'slim' PS3 systems will come with 250GB internal drives, just like their black and white predecessors do. Sony Japan says that these two new models are a limited quantity release. They'll come with a matching DualShock controller, priced at ¥24,980 (roughly $250), when released on February 28. I also hate vehemently. Only as*holes would use this word. |
| The Network Roundup: All hail the King Posted: 21 Jan 2013 11:15 AM PST
Today we honor the life of the late, great, Martin Luther King Jr. Besides giving many of us a day home from the office, we look back at a man that pioneered the African American Civil Rights Movement, and all helped changed human rights forever. Although things in the world are still far from perfect, it's amazing to look back at how much they've changed since the 60s. As we look around at the awesome things floating around the Modern Method Network today, let's not forget all the people that gave everything to ensure all the freedoms we enjoy today. Let's also not give up our fight for what's right in the world, and everything we hold near and dear. Let's also make the best of a day off, and get some gaming time in! Japanator

| PC version of GTA V listed on European Amazon sites Posted: 21 Jan 2013 11:00 AM PST While it hasn't been confirmed by Rockstar, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V has appeared on online retailer Amazon's sites in the UK, France, and Germany. There's still no official word on a PC release for GTA V, despite a high-profile online petition asking the company to consider one. As someone who uses Amazon.co.uk a fair bit, I know to take these type of listings with a grain of salt; previous listings have turned out to be put up by mistake and right now there's a PC version of Ubisoft's upcoming Watch Dogs on Amazon.co.uk despite it too not being confirmed for PC. |
| Episode 6 of Halo 4's Spartan Ops roasts some Elites Posted: 21 Jan 2013 10:30 AM PST The second half of Spartan Ops season one has picked back up today. The episodic series continues the misadventures of the Spartan-IVs and Jul 'Mdama, the leader of the Covenant group, on the planet Requiem. There's a nice bit of action in the new animated sequence that you can check out above. As for the actual game content, I haven't given it a spin yet but wondering what you all thought of the newest levels. 343 has supposedly put more effort into them so I'm hoping it's finally enough to bring me back into Halo 4's little experiment. |
