PSN winter sale soldiers on through the holidays

Sony kicked off three weeks of holiday sales last week. Games like Catherine, I Am Alive, and Resident Evil 4 HD saw discounts on the PlayStation Network. If you'd like to pick up those titles a cut rate, well, tough luck I suppose. The PlayStation Store has already been updated for the week and a whole new set of deals has replaced last week's offerings. Highlights include Journey, Killzone 3 multiplayer, and the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS Vita.

As was the case last week, the PlayStation Plus elite will receive 50% off select titles, whereas the rest of you plebeians will have to make do with a trifling 30% discount. There's a full listing of this week's games below. If you see something that catches your eye, remember to seize the opportunity. Seven days from now these reduced prices will disappear and Sony will roll out a whole new assortment to get you to reach for your wallet once more.

[Mash Tactics airs Monday through Friday at 4p.m. Pacific on Dtoid.TV. Watch King Foom play a variety of games, each day with its own theme. With a heavy focus on community and viewer interaction, you can be as much a part of the show as anything else.]

Merry Christmas! Or ... "Happy Holidays" if you're one of those easily offended types of people. I really wasn't planning on broadcasting tonight, but, we had a very early Christmas get together, and I'm already home with nothing going on until tomorrow. So, if you're in the same boat, feel free to come by Dtoid.TV tonight, and hang out as we play some multiplayer games, chat on Skype, and drink copious amounts of alcohol. It's Christmas eve, Mash Tactics style!

Jimquisition: The Sh*tiest games of 2012

There's something to be said for tradition, and the Jimquisition's most sacred tradition is the year-end evisceration of the very worst games released.

Quake in fear, O ye creatively impoverished fools!

Presented to you with a slight guilt that the hard work of devs are being crapped on during Christmas Eve. Not Jim's fault, though! Blame the inventor of the calender, Gregor Gregori!

Also featuring guest co-host Skeletor!

Lightning Returns: FF XIII: English subs in Asian version

Much like they did with Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy XIII-2, the Asia version of upcoming title Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will will be playable for importers with proper hardware.

Siliconera reports that SCEH confirmed that the Asia version Lightning Returns will feature Japanese voice work with both Chinese and English subtitles.

If you're like me and want to hear the Japanese voice work, this Asia version will be ideal. But the days of importing top Japanese franchise titles to get the early jump are mostly gone with worldwide releases.

Crazy trailer: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle

Crazy trailer: JoJos Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle screenshot

I can tell that this new trailer for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle looks pretty incredible, but I can't honestly tell you that I know what is going on at all times in it. Fists and words and crazy eyes are flying everywhere in this four or so minutes of character presentations and head-to-head fights.

We knew it was wierd from our Tokyo Game Show preview, but all the faces with clenched teeth and all of the speedlines have scrambled my brain. Every time I think I understand what's going on, something else crazy happens. The attack at 3:44 is the best, though.

Final Fantasy 25th Memorial Ultimania books released

Final Fantasy 25th Memorial Ultimania books released screenshot

I found an interesting e-mail from CD Japan in my inbox this morning. Apparently, Square Enix has "spontaneously" released a limited edition series of books called Final Fantasy 25th Memorial Ultimania containing artwork and scenario documents to celebrate Final Fantasy's 25th anniversary.

The details about exactly what's featured are scarce, but according to a brief description from CD Japan, "very rare background setting materials" are included, some of which has been unreleased until now. The series spans three volumes, with the first covering Final Fantasy through VI, the second VII through IX, and the third X through XIV. The Yoshitaka Amano artwork featured on the cover of each certainly has me interested... and I'm tempted to pick up at least volume 1.

Have you partaken in any Final Fantasy 25th anniversary goods this year? Do you have a preference for their music releases or art books like this?

Reminder: Pid has an Easy Mode update on Steam

Reminder: Pid has an Easy Mode update on Steam screenshot

Have you played Pid yet? A lot of people have, and one of their chief complaints was the difficulty. Developer Might and Delight was listening, as they have a free Easy Mode update available on Steam -- just download the latest patch, and you're good to go. The update actually launched earlier this month, but if you recently picked the game up during the Steam holiday sale, you probably weren't aware of it yet.

This isn't an ancillary addition, as Might and Delight explains that the new Easy Mode features completely redesigned levels, and simplifies boss fights. Like most contemporary titles, you can change the setting mid-game. The update also re-works some "difficulty spikes" in the game's Normal setting, so if you want to play the original game sans-patch, don't update!

Although it may be too little too late, this is probably good news for everyone who picked it up during Steam's sale and gave it a pass. Console patches are coming at a later date.

Listen to Yasunori Mitsuda's annual Christmas arrangement

Listen to Yasunori Mitsuda's annual Christmas arrangement screenshot

Every Christmas season composer Yasunori Mitsuda streams a holiday arrangement on his Procyon Studio home page. In past years we've heard arrangements of everything from Chrono Cross's "Dimension Break" (recently mentioned in our top ten list for songs to listen to during the holidays) to a track from his work on Lime Odyssey.

This year we get a lovely arrangement from the amazing kiRite album, a body of work that Mitsuda wrote to accompany an original story book by Masato Kato, the scenario and script writer for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. The album is fantastic, and comes highly recommend, but this solo piano arrangement of the recurring theme of kiRite is certainly worth a listen. If only it were available for download!

Head over to Procyon Studios and check it out before Christmas is through and let us know what you think. Happy holidays!

I haven't been a big fan of Tim Burton's contemporary work, but I can't get enough of his old stuff. Naturally, anything involving old school Tim Burton and Pokemon has me interested: enter The Tim Burton x PKMN Project.

Illustrator Vaughn Pinpin has brought it upon himself to creepify as many Pokemon as he can get his hands on, and I have to say, the results are deliciously terrifying.

So far Tim Burton x PKMN has 41 out of the original 151 completed, so be sure and check back for more pocket monsters as it updates! Oh yeah and it's totally nightmare fuel, so you have been warned. Merry Christmas!

Seriously, don't scroll down to Venusaur if you know what's good for you -- he's Pokemon #3 -- don't do it!

Also, Ekans.

Grand Theft Auto V screens have a SHARK in them

Rockstar has delivered a sackful of Grand Theft Auto V screenshots on this wintry Christmas Eve. We'd have preferred a new digital camera or a Manta Force Red Viper, but we'll take what we can get -- especially when SHARKS are involved.

Yes, the new gallery of images confirms that SHARKS are going to be in the game, which is awesome because SHARKS are great. Also included are dogs with hot pink collars, planes, diving water things, and a guy on a phone with some guys. Exciting!

Check out the gallery if you want. You can do that. You should do that.

Happy Holidays - Enjoy [Rockstar]

Retro City Rampage set to drop in January on WiiWare screenshot

Ever since Retro City Rampage hit pretty much everything other than WiiWare (and XBLA), fans have been waiting patiently for any sort of Wii release date news. Finally, we now have a soft release window of "January 2013," which should give you a bit of time to save up those points.

For all of you Wii U fans, you can access it as well from the Wii emulation channel, so don't fret. Be sure and check it out if you're a fan of retro games, or a fan of pop culture in general, as the game has a ton of heart and solid gameplay to boot. Oh, and it totally has a ton of Destructoid people in it.

I'm currently clamoring for Chris Carter DLC, so feel free to join my cause.

The Weekend Hotness: Pen Ward's Bravest Warriors is out!?

The Weekend Hotness: Pen Ward's Bravest Warriors is out!? screenshot

What what WHAT!? I had no idea that Pen Ward's show Bravest Warriors had already started, much less that it is a web series rather than major network program. I only became aware thanks to Holmes' interview with SuperF*ckers creator James Kochalka, whose show is roommies with Bravest Warriors on the Cartoon Hangover collective. Imagine that!

This weekend, Sterling Lyons pours one out for the game studios that didn't survive until the end of the year, Sup, Holmes? interviews Skullgirls artist Mariel Cartwright, Conrad Zimmerman reminds us that the Dafoeverse is still very much a thing, and a new gaming magazine promises to fill the void left by Nintendo Power.
