| ArmA 3 devs to remain in jail after being denied bail Posted: 16 Nov 2012 03:00 PM PST Bohemia Interactive's Martin Pezlar and Ivan Buchta have been locked up for some 70 days now, having been arrested while on holiday on the Greek island of Lemnos. The two are accused by the Greek government of espionage after they were found to have taken several photos of Greek military installations. Pezlar and Buchta had appealed for bail, but today it has been revealed that the Greek government has shot down their appeal. With the Greek government having denied Pezlar and Buchta bail, the ArmA III developers will have to face trial in a Greek court. If found guilty, they can face up to 20 years in prison. Their families are now seeking help from the president of the Czech Republic. After 70 days awaiting trial, jailed ArmA 3 devs refused bail [Eurogamer] | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The DTOID Show: Wii U, Deus Ex Movie & Mr Torgue's DLC Posted: 16 Nov 2012 02:45 PM PST Borderlands 2's new DLC, "Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage," is coming out next week, because you kids can't get enough of that game apparently. Black Ops II sold as disgustingly much as we all expected it would, and in other obvious news, they're making a Modern Warfare 4. Because nothing is sacred, the Splinter Cell and Deus Ex movies are moving forward. Hey, also -- that Wii U thing comes out this weekend. A lot of games have been pre-ordered, and TVii has been delayed until december. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Chasing Aurora confirmed as a Wii U launch title Posted: 16 Nov 2012 02:30 PM PST If you can find enough warm bodies to play Chasing Aurora with you, that's something I would recommend doing. The multiplayer action title will be out in time for the Wii U's launch on November 18 via the Nintendo eShop. At $14.99, the game is a bit steeper in price than what I was expecting. It's made up of a time-based single-player component and three multiplayer modes which play off of classic children's games, so mileage will probably vary quite a bit depending on what type of players you and your friends are. For those curious, footage of the single-player and one of the modes, Freeze Tag, can be found below. Jonathan Holmes says Chasing Aurora reminds him of the original NiGHTS, so perhaps that will pique your interest. Trail Challenge

Ubisoft has released this, the launch trailer for ZombiU, as the game will be releasing this weekend alongside the Wii U console. Seems like a reasonable time to distribute such a thing. Within the video you will learn valuable rules for survival while being explicitly shown a variety of mechanics utilizing the GamePad's features. Our very own Jim Sterling has been toiling away on ZombiU for review, and you can look forward to his thoughts on the game Sunday. In the meantime, is it just me, or does this trailer make anybody else want to pop in Zombieland?
| Hotline Miami DLC likely 'about as long as the full game' Posted: 16 Nov 2012 01:30 PM PST Despite hearing many positive things about Hotline Miami, it wasn't until I actually got my hands on it that I fully understood what makes the game so worth playing from start to finish. Truly this is one of those titles you need to take a chance on. If, like me, you've completed Hotline and are dying for more content, Dennaton Games has shared some good news on that front. Speaking to Eurogamer, Jonatan Söderström says that "We don't want to reveal too much, but it will probably have more playable characters than the first game did. And a couple of different stories and angles." Dennis Wedin adds that "A lot of of people have been asking about a map editor to build their own stages, so we're looking at if it's possible to do that." "I think we're going to do quite a big project," Söderström says of the DLC. "It will probably be about as long as the full game, so probably we'll charge something for it. It will be like a sequel kind of, but building on the story." He suggested this might take "four or five months," but that the duo isn't entirely sure at this point in time. Rounding out this feel-good info, the possibility of a PlayStation Vita version of the game was brought up. Söderström responded with "I can't say much about Sony because I frankly don't know how likely it is. Maybe 50/50." Hotline Miami's levels are structured so perfectly for handheld gaming -- I hope they can make it happen. The creators of Hotline Miami on inspiration, storytelling and upcoming DLC [Eurogamer] On a semi-related note, we never posted about the game's launch trailer, which is very much worth watching. I seriously can't get enough of this right now, as if that weren't obvious enough already. To think, I had almost no interest prior to actually sitting down and playing.

| Weekend PC download deals: Tropico, the USSR and Orcs! Posted: 16 Nov 2012 01:00 PM PST GOG.com cut the price of a big swathe of strategy titles in its USSR Invades promo, including IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946, Perimeter, and the not-actually-a-strategy title Cryostasis. Jordan's already let you know about Amazon's great bundle deal on the Prototype franchise so snap that up. GamersGate has cut the price of the rather fun tower defense/third-person action Orcs Must Die and its sequel. Both games are reduced in price by 75% with their DLC expansions either 50% or 75% off. Elsewhere on GamersGate, the Crusaders Kings franchise is also reduced by 75%. You can get the same deal on Crusader Kings at Green Man Gaming too. Also at Green Man Gaming, you can pre-purchase Hitman: Absolution for $29.95 if you use this coupon: GMG35-FGR37-COY0B Steam has a good selection of offers; we know that Awesomenauts is free-to-play this weekend and is half price if you want to buy. Also on offer is the fun in the sun dictator sim Tropico 4 which is 75% off. As always friends, if you spot a great weekend offer on some PC and Mac downloads, please post 'em in the comments below. Have a good weekend everyone! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Borderlands 2 Torgue ad is certainly direct Posted: 16 Nov 2012 12:30 PM PST
As you are no doubt aware from having read our preview earlier today, the next round of expansion content for Borderlands 2 centers around a specific weapons manufacturer, Torgue. These are the guns which always feature an explosive elemental effect, an element that I've always felt was underused in the first game. I guess this pretty much solves that complaint. Gearbox released an advertisement for Torgue guns today as part of their announcing the November 20th release date of Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage. It's short and sweet and made me giggle. I am easily amused.
| The winner of our Persona 4 Golden Premium dance contest Posted: 16 Nov 2012 12:25 PM PST
First off, you all made my week. I loved ALL of the entries for our Persona 4 Golden Premium Edition dance contest. So many great videos! I wish we had more than one prize to give. Thanks so much to all that entered! But, as we said earlier, there were only 10,000 of these Premium Editions made, which means they're already pretty hard to come by. Our winner was absolutely shameless in his dancing. He doesn't necessarily have 'moves,' but somehow he still nailed many of the orignal opening's dances. Levito, you are a superstar, and our winner. I hope the whole world sees your video. The Kanji section kills me every time. Ah, but so many of these were so great. Sooooo great. Shadowfox, you really can move! Atashi, so cute!!! SiriusK, thanks for busting out of club to make your vid. Crystalking18, I laughed really hard. SillyReaper, fantastic effort -- it was like a music video! TheBigSpoon: you are amazing. WKG, you say you can't dance, but you had those moves down. Dels Catt, the multi-can scene had me. And Josh Paige, you know my weakness. Those spins made me squeal out loud! Hit the jump to watch more of our entries.

| Assassin's Creed III is getting another substantial patch Posted: 16 Nov 2012 12:00 PM PST Following Ubisoft's hefty day-one patch for Assassin's Creed III, the company has another update in the works that is even more significant. Due out by the end of next week, this "Thanksgiving Patch" will work to improve a number of issues in both the single-player and multiplayer. While watching Conrad play the game for review prior to full release, I was eager to get my hands on a retail copy, but haven't yet had the opportunity to do so. Between all of these fixes, maybe that's not such a bad thing after all. Some of these bugs sound rather nasty.

| Curious Kickstarter in Combiform connecting controllers Posted: 16 Nov 2012 11:30 AM PST
So, this one is a little strange. Combiform is a connectable controller system, allowing players to join together multiple controllers (using rare earth magnets) and have new gameplay experiences. An example you'll see in the above video is a shoot-em-up where each player controls an individual ship, using tilt controls to move, and joining two player's controllers together merges the ships to become more powerful but also means you have to work with your teammate to control the merged ship. It's an idea, certainly. Combiform is currently operating a Kickstarter funding drive (their second attempt; an earlier campaign in August was canceled) to produce the controllers, which would be compatible with PC, Mac, iOS and Android. And, with the promised open SDK, I can see some really interesting creative possibilities. In fact, the video has a perfect example already. I was ready to write off the tech demos found in the first two minutes of the promotional material because they didn't look like fun games to play. Then came Switch, which isn't a "videogame" so much as a computer-assisted game (see: Johan Sebastian Joust) that looks like crazy fun. Two players join four controllers, one in each hand. Two of the controllers will change colors, indicating their positions must be swapped, leading to Twister-like maneuvers. Switch looks like a good game, and it's the kind of thing that I could see on shelves in toy stores completely independent of anything else. Hell, maybe that should be the next project if the Kickstarter doesn't prove to be a success this time around. Their prospects aren't looking fantastic at this point, with less than $3,000 pledged toward their $90,000 goal as of this writing. Still plenty of time for it to take off, of course, but I feel like the project is a bit too ambitious for its own good as described. But If they produce Switch -- just Switch -- and can retail it with four (feature-reduced) controllers for around $60, I would buy that instantly.
| Mars: War Logs still progressing, new screenshots Posted: 16 Nov 2012 10:30 AM PST
Indie developer Spiders has released new screenshots for their upcoming sci-fi role-playing title, Mars: War Logs. They also released a teaser trailer for it back in August which I think somehow flew under our radar. Check that out above, then look at the screens in the gallery. Currently planned for release in 2013 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, it looks great in a visual sense, but I'm a sucker for just about anything science-fiction. I think I'll have to know more about the gameplay mechanics this is going to employ before I get too enthusiastic, but it's definitely looking sharp.
| Mighty Switch Force! HD Edition trailer is very yes Posted: 16 Nov 2012 10:15 AM PST It totally slipped my mind that Mighty Switch Force! was being dolled up for the Wii U eShop. Thankfully, WayForward gave us a friendly reminder in the form of a new trailer. The full title reads Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition. True to the subtitle, all 21 regular and downloadable levels from the 3DS original return as "Hyper" versions of their earlier incarnations, promising greater challenge. The pixel sprites are sadly gone, only to be replaced by incredible hand-drawn graphics that better reflect the game's concept art. The new visuals render at a crisp 1080p, but you can choose to move the action to the GamePad for off-TV play. It doesn't sound like Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition will arrive at launch -- the Nintendo eShop page lists the release date as "TBD." Hopefully, we won't have to wait too much longer. I'm ready to double-dip! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There are a bunch of Xbox 360 bundles for Black Friday Posted: 16 Nov 2012 10:00 AM PST We already told you about some of the Black Friday bundles planned for PlayStation 3 and Vita, so now it's Microsoft's turn. If you've been keeping up with the deals this year, much of this likely won't be news to you, but it's still nice to have it all in one place. Walmart will have an exclusive glossy white Xbox 360 4GB console and controller with Skylanders and an exclusive figurine for $149.99, which is probably going to cause fistfights. Best Buy, Fred Meyer, Fry's, and Newegg are going to offer the Xbox 360 250GB bundled with Skyrim and Forza 4: Essentials Edition for $199.99. That's the standout. Target, Amazon, Sam's Club, Meijer, Kmart, and Microsoft Stores are set with the Xbox 360 4GB with Kinect and Kinect Disneyland Adventures for $199.99. Lastly, GameStop has the 250GB with Black Ops II for $249.99; RadioShack has the 4GB with a wired headset for $169.99; and Toys R Us has the 4GB with a $50 gift card for $179.99. Like I said, lots of options here. Microsoft is also talking up its first-party deals: Dance Central 3 ($29.99), Kinect Sports Ultimate ($29.99), Fable: The Journey ($29.99), and Forza Horizon ($39.99), though these titles will of course be discounted elsewhere. | Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U trailer is heavy on strange Posted: 16 Nov 2012 09:15 AM PST
I love how silly Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition is. This serious fighter turns into a Nintendo-themed Tekken playground. Costumes, minigames, oversized noses, Mario bears -- it's all here. This launch trailer's ESRB rating promises adult themes and sexual situations, but instead pulls a fast one and opens with silly costumes and big noses, and continues with beach ball battles and huge 1UP mushrooms. I think the Bowser costume takes it over the top. The costumes are so prominent (and weird) that you stop caring about what character you originally picked. Now it's all about seeing a huge Mario fist up in Luigi's face. My launch day lineup isn't fully decided yet. I may pick this up just for how crazy it'll be for group play.
| So, so ready: Hitman: Absolution is coming very soon Posted: 16 Nov 2012 09:00 AM PST
While you all are eating turkey and putting up decorations, I'll be killing people. Lots of people. This game is going to be killer. Get it? Hitman: Absolution is right around the corner, dropping for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC on November 20. It seems like we've been talking about it for forever, but now it's finally here. To celebrate, here's a really nice launch trailer. They couldn't have made the game look more badass. Are you ready? Or am I going to have to kill you, too.
