| A Machine for Pigs is down for maintence, pushed to 2013 Posted: 12 Jul 2012 02:00 PM PDT Good games take time. Fortunately for us, Frictional Games (Amnesia, Penumbra)and thechineseroom (Dear Ester) collaborative follow-up to Amenisa: The Dark Descent is looking to be a good game. So, don't expect it to come out just yet. Expect an early 2013 release instead. “The fat just ain't dripping off the bones yet,” Dan Pinchbeck, creative director of thechineseroom, told Giant Bomb. “But we'll definitely have more to show in the not too distant future.” That's a pretty cryptic and visual way to say, "We are delaying the game" but I wouldn't expect anything less from this team. Though we won't be able to soil our pants to the game just yet -- don't worry: there are other methods of achieving this -- Pinchbeck hinted that there will be new information on the game soon. That's nice to hear but this is one of those rare games where I rather not have any of the details of plot, setting, or structure spoiled. Does this news make you piggies want to squeal? | brentalfloss' adorable nephew is the perfect Little Nemo Posted: 12 Jul 2012 01:30 PM PDT
It's about time that brentalfloss lyric-afied the amazing slumber jams of Little Nemo: The Dream Master. He goes the distance for this number by dressing up as a priest and recruiting a joyous gospel choir. His sacrilege is our entertainment, after all. But the pièce de résistance is the casting of his nephew Jackson as the most adorable Nemo in the world. Look at him in his jammies, shoving candy down animals' throats and murdering specters of our darkest nightmares! Such an angel! It's a shame that Brent's negative influence will eventually taint him and turn him into a foul-mouthed clone of his uncle. Little Nemo WITH LYRICS [YouTube] |
| Anomaly Warzone Earth on its way to PS3, adds local co-op Posted: 12 Jul 2012 01:00 PM PDT
Anomaly Warzone Earth, the rather clever "tower-offense" game, has been slowly making the platform rounds, first releasing on PC in 2011 followed by an Xbox Live Arcade version back in April. Now, 11 bit studios has announced the title's impending arrival on PlayStation 3, to be delivered through PlayStation Network later this summer. While it is, of course, wonderful that players who might not have had the opportunity to play Anomaly in one of its earlier incarnations will now get that chance, there's a bit more coming in this new release. The PS3 version of Anomaly Warzone Earth will include a new local cooperative mode for two players which divvies up the squad management and strategic planning elements. All of this is to say that I'm going to have to buy this game for a third time now. I'm pretty okay with that because I love it and don't mind supporting a great game, but I do hope that the co-op winds up offering a distinct and enjoyable experience. Otherwise, I think I'd be much happier knowing they were working on a sequel. |

| Sign up for RaiderZ beta and win a trip to PAX Prime Posted: 12 Jul 2012 12:00 PM PDT Fighting large monsters with large weapons appears to be a rather popular past time in our corner of the galaxy. | Capcom announces Street Fighter live-action show at SDCC Posted: 12 Jul 2012 11:45 AM PDT
[Update: Here's the announcement video that was screened during the panel.] Two years ago, there was a pretty bad-ass Street Fighter fan film called Street Fighter: Legacy that you might have seen. After it blew up the Internet, creator Joey Ansah expressed an interest in producing a full-length Street Fighter movie or show. Looks like he got that chance, and with the complete support of Capcom to boot! At Comic-Con, Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono announced Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, a multi-part series being helmed by the Legacy crew. According to director Ansah (Akuma in Legacy, Desh in The Bourne Ultimatum) and co-writer Christian Howard (Ken in Legacy), Assassin's Fist will explore the histories of Ryu, Ken, Gouken, and Akuma as well as the dark secrets of their fighting style, "Ansatsuken." Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist will premier in 2013. If it's even half as amazing and faithful to the games as Legacy was, I doubt you'll be hearing many complaints. |
| Orcs Must Die 2 to offer bonus mode to returning players Posted: 12 Jul 2012 11:30 AM PDT Robot Entertainment has unveiled a special treat in the upcoming Steam release of Orcs Must Die! 2 for fans of the original game. Owners of Orcs Must Die! will find an unlocked "Classic" mode in the sequel. This special cooperative mode features ten of the original title's stages remixed with new enemies. Orcs Must Die! had a fun sense of humor and the gameplay is highly appealing. It sounds as though they're on-track to repeat that in the sequel and I am really looking forward to a little cooperative chaos. Won't be long now. Orcs Must Die! 2 releases on Steam July 30th. Check out a bunch of screenshots of the Classic mode in our gallery. |
| New Super Mario Bros. 2 trailer worth its weight in gold Posted: 12 Jul 2012 11:00 AM PDT
Getting ready for a golden shower! Nintendo is at it again, dropping a massive blinged-out dose of New Super Mario Bros. 2 footage via this fresh trailer. There's enough COINS in here to satisfy Scrooge McDuck's vault-swimming needs for years to come. Drop some real (or digital!) coin for New Super Mario Bros. 2 when it debuts on August 19 in North America. |
| SDCC Quickie: Transformers: Fall of Cybertron multiplayer Posted: 12 Jul 2012 10:31 AM PDT High Moon Studios finally let us go hands-on with the multiplayer for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Right off, I'll say that those that played and enjoyed MP in its predecessor, War for Cybertron, will be pleased to hear that this one is just as easy to get into, and just as fun to play. I didn't get much time with MP, but I already feel pretty good about it. Team Deathmatch was a good time. My group rolled tough, stuck together, and fought...as best as we could. We lost, but at least we tried hard. I played using a Scientist class bot, which is pretty limited in the strength department, but moves around well (I love changing from ship to bot to get around) and plays a key role in team play with its lock-on healing beam. Like any good bot, my guys could take hits, and I kept them topped off as much as I could, but the damned monster-ass Titans are too tough, and we fell hard under their attacks. You'll need real teamwork to take these guys down. I also did time with the game's node-taking/defending conquest mode, which wasn't as entertaining as it needed to be as all of the other players seemed to be lost in the map. Maybe a too-big map is at fault here. I did plenty of node taking as well as defending, but most of my time was spent crusin' for a brusin', looking for any kind of action in the map's multi-tiered zones. What little action I saw playing as the zippy Infiltrator class was nice, with some good fights happening around node defense, but I was never fully engaged like I was in Team Deathmatch. I had only a limited to play with the game's multiplayer customization features, but I suspect that this will be hugely popular when the game ships. The four classes, Infiltrator, Destroyer, Scientist and Titan, can be tweaked from top to bottom in whatever way you please. Colors, shapes, sizes, weapons -- you name it. If you've ever dreamed of creating your own Transformer, this feature will tickle you metallic pink. (Seriously, that's an option.) Finally, High Moon's Matt Tieger confirmed that both Dinobots and Insecticons will eventually become playable classes in multiplayer. It sounds like they'll be DLC options, but this is still great news for Transformer fans. Transformers Fall of Cybertron will be released August 21 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. |
| Live show: 2012 Mash Tactics Failympics Posted: 12 Jul 2012 10:30 AM PDT [Mash Tactics airs Monday through Friday at 4p.m. Pacific on Dtoid.TV. Watch King Foom play a variety of games, each day with its own theme. With a heavy focus on community and viewer interaction, you can be as much a part of the show as anything else.] It's over two weeks away, and I'm starting to get hyped up for the 2012 summer Olympics. So, in honor of the upcoming events, tonight on Mash Tactics, we'll be playing the recently released, London 2012: The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games. If that ungodly long title didn't already get you super excited, allow me to add some more to the mix, in an attempt to entice you to come and watch. |
| SDCC: Worlds collide in our first day cosplay roundup Posted: 12 Jul 2012 10:05 AM PDT San Diego Comic-Con has officially started and it's already jam packed full of people. I'm truly scared just how crowded this place will be once the weekend hits. Thankfully there's already plenty of great cosplayers to make the crowds bearable. Today alone we've seen a billion Deadpools, some clever twists on Marvel heroes, Dead Rising, Magika, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed, and so many other different outfits. Check it all out in our gallery below. The highlights from today are easily Jessica Nigri cosplaying as a character from Elsworld, and the Disney villains crew rolling around the show floor. One of them is cosplaying as the hunter that killed Bambi's mom. He's even carrying around the "corpse" with him! We're going to have daily galleries for you this week of all the cosplay action. Check out our San Diego Comic-Con page for all of our on-going coverage. |
| Games being made based on Ashley Davis' Famicase art Posted: 12 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT I gotta tell ya, everything's coming up Milhouse for former Dtoid editor Ashley Davis! Every year, the Meteor store in Tokyo hosts the My Famicase Exhibition, a gallery in which artists submit cartridge labels for fake Famicom (the Japanese NES) games. For the 2011 show, game blog Tiny Cartridge was able to participate, concocting a concept for "Meteor Night" and tapping Ashley Davis for the art. Fast-forward to this year's A Game By Its Cover, an indie game competition that tasks devs to create games based on fictional game art. And surprise, not one, not two, but three entries are based upon "Meteor Night"! The concept is so vague that the games are bound to be wildly different. A Game By Its Cover runs through August 18, and the winners will be on display at this year's GameCity festival in Nottingham, England. I hope at least one of these three games make it through! Meteor Night becoming three AGBIC games! [Tiny Cartridge] |
| SDCC: Check out Capcom's $400 Street Fighter Chess set Posted: 12 Jul 2012 09:33 AM PDT At their store on the San Diego Comic-Con show floor, Capcom is selling this beautiful Street Fighter chess set. I don't play chess, but this thing is so fancy that I want one anyway. Too bad it's $400. Checkmate. This thing is classy as hell, as it should be for a 25th anniversary special item. Each of the busts, as you'll see in our gallery, are incredibly detailed, and would make any fan of the series happy. I'm guessing that great Street Fighter players wouldn't be nearly as great at chess, but I could be wrong. If you want one of these sets, you should hurry: Capcom is only selling 10 of them this weekend. |
| Nightwing and Cyborg join the Injustice roster Posted: 12 Jul 2012 09:30 AM PDT This week at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment announced the inclusion of Cyborg and Nightwing in NetherRealm Studio's Injustice: Gods Among Us. Below are the latest screens of these two beating up the game's previously revealed cast. Injustice has piqued my interest, but it's the characters themselves that will ultimately decide if and when I drop a full $60 on this title. As someone who isn't that into fighting games, it's an admittedly tough sell. If you happen to be at SDCC, swing by DC Entertainment's booth (#1915) to play Injustice. |
| Harada on DLC, fan differences and his dream tag team partners Posted: 12 Jul 2012 09:00 AM PDT Tekken producer Katsushiro Harada has been making headlines recently, partially due to his thoughts on whining fans of the series as well as the release of free Tekken Tag Tournament 2 character content. Though Street Fighter X Tekken caught a bad reputation upon release with its bugs and large amount of paid DLC, Harada is keen to show that has had no influence on Tag 2's release. Harada told Destructoid that "It seems that my stance on this has been in the spotlight recently because of the events with Capcom, but I've been saying this since 2008 or so when we were still working on Tekken 6. So my stance hasn’t changed, it’s just been in the spotlight because of the events I think. If you look at my past stories you can see that, as far as characters, stages and techniques, I've always said that [those things] shouldn’t be sold, that’s not because of Capcom." With so many global players to please, Harada’s noticed a few differences between Japanese fans and Western fans. "There's the numbers firstly, as the Western fan base, both for Tekken and Street Fighter, is so much bigger than the fan base in Japan. This is true even more so for Europe, as that's where the majority of fans are. Not just that, the points they seem interested about are different. For example, the Japanese are more into their game mechanics and the fine details, characters and such, whereas the foreign audience seems to be more interested in what’s going on with the story and storylines." The fighting game community is very vocal about their thoughts, and at times the general consensus can get things wrong. One area Harada felt that happened is with the latest feature added to Tag 2. "One decision, for example, was implementation of the latest gameplay mechanic. This was implemented in the arcade version but you could play 2 on 2, 1 on 1, and 1 on 2. Tag was very popular with its 2-on-2 gameplay, but following that we reverted back to 1-on-1 fights with Tekken 4 onwards. This time when TTT2 came out, it was only 2 on 2 at first, then we implemented the gameplay mechanics of 2 on 1, and 1 on 1. A lot of people told me at first 'Hey, why are you going to do that? That’s not a good idea at all' but once they got their hands on it, and even now with the console version as well, everyone seems to be pretty happy with it, so that is one decision I stuck by." In terms of release, each entry in the series always hits arcades months before the consoles, and with many arcades unfortunately closing down globally, you might think that the future of Tekken will involve less of a relationship with arcades in the future. Though Harada partially agrees about arcades closing down, he's got his own argument against that idea. "Well, you know, like you said, arcades are in decline in the West -- even in Japan the numbers are decreasing. On the other hand, there is a rise in arcades and that market in some of the more developing countries, for example China or Brazil. It seems mostly in the Eastern hemisphere, we’ve seen a great jump in arcade activity there. So no, regarding Tekken's [arcade life] will continue, however depending on the title it may make more sense just to have a console release so it really depends on the particular title that we’re working on." To close my interview I had two questions left which I needed answered: who Harada’s dream tag team partner is and who his dream tag team opponents would be. The answers were as cool as Harada’s demeanor. “It depends on who the opponent is, like if it were zombies, then I’d really like to form a team with Bruce Campbell. If it were making a new business, like a travel agency or something, then Ono-San may be whom I would choose to pair with. As far as who I would like to fight against, maybe a team of Ed Boon and Itagaki-San." There you have it; hopefully one day those words will turn into a real match that we'll get to see! |
| Hello Kitty Sonic plush is just too gosh-darn cute Posted: 12 Jul 2012 08:30 AM PDT Everybody with me now: D'AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!! Sega has teamed up with the purveyor of all things cute, Sanrio, and the result is a Sonic X Hello Kitty plush to be released at the Joypolis amusement center in Tokyo later this month. If you ask me, it looks like Hello Kitty pulled a Buffalo Bill on the ol' hedgehog, but never has a skin suit been so fashionable! Sega and Sanrio promise more goodies down the road. I wonder if any of them will make it out West. Hello Kitty doesn't choose a job, now is collaborating with Sonic [Inside Games via Tiny Cartridge] |
