| 12 new characters hitting Street Fighter X Tekken July 31 Posted: 06 Jul 2012 04:00 PM PDT The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Street Fighter X Tekken will be getting 12 additional fighters on July 31. Capcom was planning on releasing this DLC after the PS Vita version hit stores, but have moved up the date to coincide with a patch balancing update for the console versions. The six characters from Street Fighter are Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy, and Sakura. The Tekken side will see Bryan Fury, Jack, Alisa, Lars, Lei, and Christie. The DLC will will cost you 1600 Microsoft Points/$20.00. However, PS3 owners of the game will get these 12 characters for free if they get Street Fighter X Tekken for the PlayStation Vita, which comes out on October 2. As for the patch content update, here's some of the changes you can expect detailed during a panel at EVO earlier today:
There was a lot of fan outrage earlier this year due to these characters being "disc locked content" as opposed to actual downloadable content. Capcom's Community Manager Brett Elston didn't shy away from the issue in the Capcom-Unity posting, stating that "the dev teams are listening, and promise to incorporate [fan] feedback into future titles - fighting or otherwise." 12 DLC fighters coming to SFxT on July 31, balance patch included [Capcom-Unity]

| Drown some worms in Worms Revolution Posted: 06 Jul 2012 03:30 PM PDT
Worms has always brought out the worst in me. I become a vicious, hateful, overly-competitive, incredibly angry arsehole. I love it. This has followed me through the entire series, even the ones that weren't particularly good. Worms Revolution looks like my bad side will be making a come back with style. Lead programmer Ian Lindsey explains landscapes, physics and dynamic water in the latest developer diary, but that's a bit boring, so just watching the worm war going on behind him. The dynamic water actually does look a bit nifty. At the very least it's going to be another way for me to annoy, and then lose, my friends. Bring on the wormageddon!
| War of the Roses beta sign-ups have been proclaimed Posted: 06 Jul 2012 02:30 PM PDT Good news, medieval combat fans: developer Fatshark has decided to move War of the Roses into beta and is now accepting applications. The game will focus around third-person melee and ranged combat with a 15th-century flavor, while set during some of the battles between England's House Lancaster and York. Fatshark and Paradox Interactive are also offering an incentive to spread the word about the beta. When you sign-up, you are given a referral URL that you can share with your friends or post on whichever form of social media that tickles your fancy on that particular day. When five players sign up through your referral URL, you will gain a guaranteed spot in the beta. Not a bad deal, especially if you can't wait to shove a dagger in someone's face. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Heihachi and Sony mascot added to PlayStation All-Stars Posted: 06 Jul 2012 01:55 PM PDT Tekken's Heihachi and Sony's Japanese feline mascot Toro Inoue are the latest additions to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale's roster. Alongside a lengthy EVO exhibition of these two new characters, a new stage was shown off: Chop Chop Master Onion's Dojo. These might not be the additions I expected, but these new characters add some more flavor to All-Stars' roster. Let's take a more detailed look at the new characters and stages. Heihachi focuses on heavy, ground based attacks, such as palm punches and pile-drivers. This demoed pretty well since Master Onion's dojo appears to be a less vertically-inclined stage. However, Heihachi has his own quirks that fit the game's comical style. He can summon Kuma, for one thing. He also has a level three super where he straps his enemies to a giant rocket that launches into space while Heihachi watches through binoculars, cackling.
Toro Inoue has a much more whimsical approach to battle, attacking with a giant mallet and growing an afro. You know, just because. He has a more lighter, aerial focus that wouldn't make him out of place in Super Smash Bros. For his level three super, he becomes a giant and bashes his enemies with a baseball bat.
Chop Chop Master Onion's Dojo stage from Parappa should please PlayStation fans. In addition to faithfully recreating the dojo and surrounding world of Parappa, there is a mech from Killzone in the background. Even better, a giant Master Onion destroys it! Crazy! What do you guys think? Excited? Disappointed? Leave your thoughts below.
| Weekend PC download deals: Max Payne 3, Wargame, and more Posted: 06 Jul 2012 01:30 PM PDT The GOG.com Summer 2012 promo has now finished but there's still a chance to nab The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena for $5.99 and Torchlight for $8.99, reduced by 60% and 40%, respectively. Elsewhere, they have knocked 50% off Strategy First titles including Darkstar One, Ghost Master, and FlatOut. Yes, yes, the Steam Summer sale hasn't started yet. For now, you can save 50% on Wargame: European Escalation along with the launch of another free DLC pack. We thought quite highly of this real-time strategy title, so now's a good time to check it out. GamersGate has been running a Nordic Games Week sale for a few days now, providing the opportunity to pick up titles like Gothic and Painkiller franchises at half price. Also on sale is the recently released Max Payne 3 which has 33% chopped of its price. As always, post any weekend-specific PC deals below | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The DTOID Show: Halo, Walking Dead, & Secret World of BJs Posted: 06 Jul 2012 01:00 PM PDT For starters, NiGHTS Into Dreams and Dragonball Z Budokai are both getting HD rereleases, and Final Fantasy VII is getting a new PC port. There's a good chance Sony's gonna be releasing some new kind of Playstation 3 this holiday season, possibly a slimmer one, and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is getting some new characters announced at EVO. 343 Industries has some new info about Halo 4 and The Secret World involves blowjays. Activision decided The Walking Dead isn't getting enough attention, so they're putting out a new first-person shooter based on the TV show. Also here's a thing I did with a unicorn. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Persona 4 Arena: Atlus statement clarifies region-lock Posted: 06 Jul 2012 12:55 PM PDT We heard yesterday that Persona 4 Arena could be region-locked on the PS3, and a statement from Atlus USA today confirms that. Bad news for importers, for sure. Atlus USA feels your frustration, though. Beyond this, Atlus wanted to clear the air on their policies as well as region-locking going forward. They call this an "isolated case" that was out of North American hands, and says that it all came down to having the game release in the two territories (Japan and U.S.) within two weeks of each other, at different price points, due to the difference in the dollar and yen. They say that region-locking was not put in place for control purposes.
In other words, don't dump on a fine videogame because of this. Region locking sucks, but it looks like it had to happen here. Atlus USA also reminds that this game's online multiplayer is still global, and in no way affected by the region-lock. Read the full statement on Persona 4 Arena from Atlus USA after the jump. Friends of ATLUS, The last week brought with it news that Persona°4 Arena™ would effectively become the first PlayStation°3 system game to be region-locked. We can today confirm that this is true; the game will be region-locked in all its respective territories of release. As we've ascertained from your impassioned responses online, this is obviously a tremendous frustration for many fans. We understand the various perspectives on the matter. Those who fear this is a slippery slope, the beginning of a dangerous and unnecessary precedent. Those who import foreign hardware for a multitude of reasons and expect to be unlimited in their software selection. Those who aren't necessarily affected by this issue, but who are principally opposed to it. We are not blind to these concerns and we pledge to grow ever more informed as to exactly what our fans want. It should be added that we were completely unprepared for the force with which the community communicated their disapproval. There are, however, a few points to clarify. This is NOT the beginning of a new ATLUS policy, nor do we view it as a precedent or a slippery slope. If anything, your determination and dedication to what you believe in has certainly stood in the face of that. This is an isolated case, a situation precipitated by a number of factors, some of which are simply out of our North American hands. Moreover, and perhaps there is no way to convince our fans of this considering the magnitude of the betrayal many are feeling, but we are not doing this out of malice or a desire to control. Allow us to explain. Persona 4 Arena achieves a number of triumphs for our North American publishing house. For years, our fans have asked us to include dual language audio in our games. Finally, with P4 Arena, we were able to deliver on that desire and include the exact same content as the Japanese release for our North American fans. Moreover, our North American community is often forced to wait months for a localized release (a plight our friends across the Atlantic can relate to). Again, with P4 Arena, we're able to release within two weeks of Japan. We pushed hard for these things. We know our fans want them--well really, EXPECT them--and we did our best to get as much for our release as possible. The unforeseen consequence in all of this was that we had a version of our biggest game of the year releasing within a couple weeks in two territories, both identical in content, but at radically different price points. Importing, as great as it is for gamers who otherwise can't get access to a title, can also cannibalize the performance of a title in one territory to the benefit of another. While we're all one big ATLUS family, the reality is that the dramatic difference between the Yen and the Dollar makes for a dramatic difference in price. So the decision was made, perhaps at the expense of some of our fans, clearly at the frustration of many, to region-lock Persona 4 Arena. For many of you, there is no explanation that resonates, no justification that atones for this fact. We can only endeavor to earn back your confidence and, to learn from your arguments. We absolutely recognize the fear that this is the beginning of a trend. We in no way view it as such. Please also keep in mind that the game's excellent online multiplayer is global, a fact that is in no way affected by the region-lock. Players can compete against fighters from all territories. A tremendous team of talented developers and artists poured their blood, sweat, and tears into Persona 4 Arena, and every reaction we've ever received to the game has shown that those efforts are readily apparent. The decision to region-lock P4 Arena was a business one, one that has very clearly affected how many perceive the project, but we ask you to please not overlook the exceptional efforts of the people behind the game and to work with us through constructive dialogue. Thank you.

| Take a look at some of Halo 4's new multiplayer features Posted: 06 Jul 2012 12:30 PM PDT 343 is doing some really cool things with Halo 4 and this latest trailer shows off some of the features they have cooking. One thing I'm really liking are the Personal Ordnance drops in Infinity Slayer. Earning medals now rewards you, allowing you to call in a weapon or power-up item drop once you've accumulated enough medals/points. The team at 343 are "still fine-tuning the system" according to 343's Community Manager, Jessica Shea. She goes on to say that players will average "1-2 ordnance [drops] per game," indicating that even highly skilled players won't be able to abuse the system. I got two Personal Ordnance drops myself in one match when I went hands-on with Infinity Slayer back at E3. I think matches are just long enough that two should be the average for most players. Definitely check out Halo Waypoint's latest bulletin as they break down a lot of the new stuff shown in the trailer. November 6 can't come soon enough! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Delve into the stylized inner world of Ether Posted: 06 Jul 2012 12:00 PM PDT
Part of the reason why I enjoy indie gaming so much is because of the kinds of subjects that their stories can explore, as well as the worlds that they can create. Which is why the familiar, yet ominous world of Ether caught my eye once I saw this trailer. Developed by White Paper Games, Ether looks to follow in the footsteps of classic first-person adventure/puzzle titles such as Myst, with a dash of Amnesia: The Dark Decent for added tension. In Ether, the player will assume control of a "restorer," an individual who can enter the minds of others in order to fix broken memories. Unfortunately for you, however, you have become lost in your latest client's mind. From what they've shown us so far, the art style of Ether is just gorgeous. The rough, dark pen lines on top of the hand-painted textures give the game a surreal quality. Ether will be releasing for both PC and Mac mid-2013, so keep your eyes peeled.
| Tiny Wings 2's announcement trailer is too cute Posted: 06 Jul 2012 11:45 AM PDT This is just too damn cute. Tiny Wings creator Andreas Illiger has just announced Tiny Wings 2 in probably the best teaser trailer ever created. Andreas uses a music box to play the theme song of Tiny Wings as the bird flies across the hand-drawn level. So cute! You won't have to wait long for the sequel as Tiny Wings 2 will be out on July 12 for the iOS. That's next week! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Artists Wanted: Behind Closed Doors and your next topic! Posted: 06 Jul 2012 11:30 AM PDT [Every month we post a new art assignment for the Dtoid community. Fun! You have until Tuesday, July 31st to finish this month's project, which is detailed at the end of the post! --Mr Andy Dixon] June's Artists Wanted assignment -- BEHIND CLOSED DOORS -- tasked you with exploring the behind-the-scenes world of videogames. What goes on when you power down your system? What do our protagonists do in their off time? And for the love of God, don't these people ever eat?! For some hilarious, spooky, and downright creepy answers to these questions (and more!), keep reading! Our first submission for the month was "Bullet Billions" by MeanderBot. Here's what he had to say about his work:
I can almost hear the Airship Theme Song now. Thanks, MeanderBot! The next submission was "Dinosexuality" by Alex Celeski. Alex had this to say about his... art:
Scary? Uh, I think you spelled "sexy" wrong, Alex. Submission number three for the month was "Mars Needs Cheerleaders" by slaypax. Here's a bit about his creative process:
I don't know, she looks perfectly safe to me. Thanks, slaypax! Our next submission was "Normandy Crew Needs Coffee" by Scary Hair Studios. Here's what he had to say about his piece:
Sounds like the crew of the Normandy has a lot in common with your average parent of a two-year-old. (Har dee har har.) Thanks, Scary Hair Studios! The next submission was "Dark Souls Legion" by TerraMantis. Here's what he had to say about his work:
That... that might give me nightmares. Thanks a lot, TerraMantis! The last submission for the month was "Little Computer People" by Leigh Andrews. Leigh had this to say about the piece:
$10 says Snake cheats at cards. Thanks, Leigh! And that's it for June's submissions! Great work, everyone! (Don't forget to click on each of the artists' names above for more info about what went into their creative process!) Now, onto this month. July's assignment is ROLE REVERSAL. What would Mario look like as the bad guy? What if Zelda was tasked with constantly saving Link? What if Gordon Freeman was actually his crowbar's weapon, and his crowbar was the hero? (Ooh, somebody please draw that.) The possibilities are limitless! To see your art appear on the front page, simply write a Community Blog and title it "Role Reversal: [Title]". Then just post your art (and a bit about the process that went into making it). At the end of the month we'll gather them all up and put them on the front page! I can't wait to see what you people come up with this time around. Now get creating!

Joining us tonight will be, well, almost the entire crew that designed the game, from lead artists, to programmers, and more. Stick around after the show tonight to watch AwDamn "social" his way through the world of Skyrim during Substituted Reality. Then, on Saturday, the Saturday Morning Hangover crew will head deep below the earth for multiplayer Spelunky. And make sure to come Chill With Phil, as Philantr0py continues his romp through the land of the dead in his ongoing playthrough of Grim Fandango. Then tune in on Sunday to join the ever-charming Jonathan Holmes as he talks to Christine Love, developer of Analogue - A Hate Story. Rounding off the weekend we have Johnny Luchador trying to break Killing Floor on Rad Show, Brett Zeidler solo'ing some Halo on Weekend Escape, and a ton of other gaming shenanigans happening every day this weekend! | Darksiders II: Death's Door digital comic now on sale Posted: 06 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT Darksiders II: Death's Door is now available to purchase exclusively from Dark Horse's digital store. The first issue will set you back $0.99, and can be obtained for both iOS and Android devices. "Death’s mission to slay a rogue demon is just starting out, but first he must acquire a replacement for his scythe, which he is forbidden to use on Earth without permission," reads the spiel. "In an underworld black market he strikes a deal—a leviathan’s tongue for a new weapon!" I may just pick this up. As I discussed on Podtoid, I've been slowly getting into the ol' digital comic lark, and I do like Darksiders. Win/Win. Anybody else interested?

| Rambo: The Video Game to be playable at gamescom Posted: 06 Jul 2012 09:30 AM PDT While we haven't had much to go on so far, we do know that a Rambo videogame is in the works at Reef Entertainment. Today, the company announced that the project will be playable on the show floor of gamescom later this August. Here's the obligatory teaser site. "We have been quiet since we acquired the Rambo license last August," said Reef commercial director Craig Lewis. "During this time we have been dedicated to creating a videogame for consoles and PC that will allow Rambo fans and gamers across the globe to really get under the skin of Rambo and wield his iconic weapon-set in battle." There's also some artwork that seemingly confirms bows, helicopters, and explosions in this game about John Rambo. Question is, will we be able to use the bow to make a helicopter explode? It's a mystery! I have an unshakable feeling that, good or bad, this game is ultimately going to be entertaining. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
