| E3: This in-game Star Wars 1313 footage is eye candy Posted: 04 Jun 2012 04:21 PM PDT
GameTrailers caught up with LucasArts creative director Dominic Robilliard to offer a first in-game look at Star Wars 1313, the new M-rated game in which you play as a bounty hunter. If you were already on board based on that premise alone, join the party. Visually, 1313 looks ridiculous -- to the point where I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up releasing on next-generation hardware. The build shown here was running on a high-end PC, which explains a lot. I'm curious to see more, because the combat/action sequences didn't seem too out of the ordinary, particularly compared to something like Prey 2. I'm feeling optimistic about this one, but I'll need more convincing before I go celebrating in the streets. |
| E3: Recap of the Sony press conference Posted: 04 Jun 2012 03:52 PM PDT Sony closed out the day with its press conference, and while nothing too crazy was put on display, it was an all-around decent showing. I would've liked to see more Vita titles, personally, but not everything at E3 needs to necessarily get that kind of special treatment. The Last of Us looked positively thrilling and was certainly my highlight. Both God of War: Ascension and Quantic Dream's Beyond, on the other hand, seemed like what you would expect. Promising, but not exactly mind-blowing. If you disagree with that sentiment: 1) good for you! and 2) I'm jealous. Here's a recap of all the major news from the conference: E3: Journey is the 'best selling PSN game of all time' For me, these conferences really brought home the point that this console generation has been going on for quite a while now. At this point, the ball is in Nintendo's court. Our bodies are ready, Reggie. |
| E3: Please just watch this Last of Us footage Posted: 04 Jun 2012 03:35 PM PDT The Last of Us is beautiful. During the demo at the Sony press conference, I gasped several times. And not even because of the action on-screen. That was cool, too, but the game was so gorgeous I couldn't help but stare in awe of what Naughty Dog can do with videogames. They are incredibly talented. This is definitely going to be one of those games where I stand in place and spin the camera around and around just so I can take in the beautiful scenery. But judging by the demo shown at the Sony press conference, that might not be a good idea. The game looks intense! Check out the full gameplay footage above, and check out the stunning screens in the gallery. |
| E3: Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, bundles announced Posted: 04 Jun 2012 03:05 PM PDT Those rumors about the Assassin's Creed game for PlayStation Vita have indeed panned out. During Sony's press conference, we were shown Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, which is set in 18th-century New Orleans; it's headed for the Sony handheld on October 30 in North America. That same day will also include the launch of a Crystal White Vita bundle that comes with Liberation as a pack-in. As an owner of the limited-edition white Star Wars PSP, let me just say it: f**k yes! Assassin's Creed III will also be offered in a bundle, although this time with a PlayStation 3. Try to contain yourself. Those of you who purchase both games for their respective Sony system are going to get exclusive downloadable content, including: an "in-game version of Connor's tomahawk, an exclusive character skin, a multiplayer character, and a complete upgrade of all ammunition pouches." |
| E3: God of War: Ascension: ELEPHANT CONFIRMED! Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:19 PM PDT ELEPHANT CONFIRMED! Coming March 12, 2013. |
| E3: Sony announces Wonderbook for the PlayStation 3 Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:10 PM PDT Using the PlayStation Eye, the Wonderbook makes books come to life! Imagine reading a page about a dragon -- with Wonderbook, the dragon will fly off the page and, I don't know, set the curtains in your living room on fire? Not sure exactly what scenarios will occur in these Wonderbooks, but the concept of reading a book and seeing the world come to life on the screen in front of you could be rather magical ... depending on the content of the books in question. Give me Where the Wild Things Are, dammit! This content could be off to a good start, as J.K. Rowling is set to release the very first book for the new peripheral: "Book of Spells." Using the PS Move, participants can cast spells and learn to perform magic! Wonderbook launches holiday 2012. Could be pretty cool for families to play together! Here's hoping for some creative and unique stories ... |
| Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:06 PM PDT Amid the landslide of E3 stories today comes some very sad news. THQ has officially shut the doors on its San Diego studio, laying off all their employees. While likely sandwiched in with E3 news to lessen the reaction from the gaming community, THQ just confirmed the news in a statement to Destructoid: THQ confirms that today's announcement regarding the UFC license transition will affect the company's San Diego studio. THQ is working closely with those relevant staff to either find possible employment within the company, or potentially with EA. As the spokesperson notes, this move is a result of THQ selling its UFC license -- the San Diego studio developed THQ's UFC Undisputed games, as well as last year's WWE All-Stars -- so it may not come as a complete shock. Hopefully the employees affected will be able to continue their work with EA or THQ. It seems there are just too many layoffs in this industry these days. |
| E3: Far Cry 3 to feature four-player co-op campaign Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:02 PM PDT With its insane cast of characters, impressive visuals, and increased focus on narrative, Far Cry 3 was shaping up to be a very impressive sequel for Ubisoft Montreal's first-person shooter franchise. Well, that was until the French publisher took the stage during Sony's E3 2012 press conference and revealed the open-world game would be even bigger with the addition of a four-person co-op campaign. The Far Cry series already let players approach situations from a variety of vantage points with a vast array of tactics, but if the brief on-stage demo was any indication, that aspect of the series is about to take on a whole new meaning. |
| E3: Sony unveils Cross Controller for PS3/Vita Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:59 PM PDT During its press conference today, Sony announced plans to allow the Vita to become an enhanced controller for PlayStation 3 games. LittleBigPlanet 2 will be getting a Cross-Controller patch which offers a new story mode, stickers, decorations, and objects, as well as taking advantage of the Vita's unique touch control options. LittleBigPlanet 2 will be the first title to support the feature, with PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale to support the feature as well. Obviously, this is a ploy to steal Nintendo's Wii U thunder, but it's still undeniably cool. |
| E3: Ellen Page featured in David Cage's Beyond: Two Souls Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:50 PM PDT As many of you correctly guessed, Ellen Page will be the lead actress in David Cage's next game, Beyond: Two Souls. Cage was particularly excited to announce this during Sony's press conference, putting emphasis on Page's Academy Award nomination. The game will feature Page as Jodie Holmes, and if the trailer is any indication, she'll have a wide variety of emotions to work through. Holmes was shown being extremely melancholy in the beginning of the trailer, but eventually threw down, yelling "don't f*ck with me!" at someone on the ground. |
| E3: PSone Classics are still coming to the Vita! Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:47 PM PDT Today at the 2012 Sony press conference, CEO Jack Tretton confirmed that PSone Classic support will still be coming to the Vita. Tretton didn't elaborate beyond that, or give any real release date outside of "summer 2012," but he cited Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy VII as "great PSOne classics." While it would have been nice to get a concrete date, at least we know they're still working on it. In fact, it was one of the main reasons I bought a Vita, and I was started to get fairly impatient regarding any sort of announcement! |
| E3: Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified headed to Vita Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:46 PM PDT As announced during the E3 2012 Sony press conference, a new Call of Duty game will be making its way to PlayStation Vita later this holiday season. That game is Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified. Nothing else was mentioned about the title, although one can speculate that this will be related to the console versions of Black Ops but hopefully also offer an original take on the setting. I'm interested, if only because of the Vita's larger screen and dual sticks. |
| E3: PlayStation All-Stars comes to Vita, new characters Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:44 PM PDT Sony sweetened the deal with its Super Smash Bros.-inspired fighting game at its press conference today with the announcement of PlayStation Vita cross-play and two new characters to the line-up. Big Daddy (BioShock) and Drake (Uncharted) will be joining the roster of classic PlayStation characters, such as Sly Cooper, Parappa the Rapper, and Fat Princess. Sony said more character announcements will be announced in coming months. Here's hoping Rachet and Clank will make an appearance! We'll get our hands on the Vita version of this anticipated fighter this week tomorrow, so come back for our impressions on how the chaos holds up on the small screen. |
| E3: Journey is the 'best selling PSN game of all time' Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:40 PM PDT During Sony's press conference, Jack Tretton announced that Journey is officially the best selling PSN game of all time. Quite a feat. Quite a great game. This is exciting news for fans of the game and great news for developer thatgamecompany. If you haven't bought the game yet, go download it! It is wonderful. |
| E3: Watch this Rayman Legends demo AND BE HAPPY! Posted: 04 Jun 2012 01:05 PM PDT
This is the kind of stuff that makes me happy. When Rayman Legends was announced as a Wii U exclusive at the Ubisoft press conference, the above outstanding, joy-filled footage was shown. As much as I love it all, check out the "rhythm game" level at the 3:50 mark, a fast-paced 2D platformer level timed completely to the music being played by a character in the game. That is some genius level design right there. I can't wait for this game. Looks beautiful. |
| E3: Sony's 2012 press conference is starting now Posted: 04 Jun 2012 12:58 PM PDT What a long day this has been! The last of the E3 press conferences for today is almost upon us, and it's a big one. Sony is about to go live any moment now; join us by catching the stream over on PlayStation Network or the PlayStation Blog, which is currently airing the pre-show. Let's see those PlayStation Vita games, guys! |
