Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation rumored for the PS Vita

Remember when an Assassin's Creed was announced for the PlayStation Vita back in August? Ubisoft snuck the announcement amidst what would eventually become their launch line-up for the Vita in February of this year. We may now know some of the possible details of the title (if a thread on NeoGAF is to be believed), including supposedly its name: Assassin's Creed III: Liberation.

Set to release the same day as Assassin's Creed III (October 30th), Liberation will be a separate tale that doesn't link to Desmond's, take place in New Orleans. It will also have "multiplayer specifically tailored for the Vita experience", feature the same traditional gameplay as the rest of the Assassin's Creed series, and will put you in the shoes of a female assassin named Aveline. Presumably, we'll hear more about the game this week at E3.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter coming to PlayStation Vita?

Medal of Honor: Warfighter coming to PlayStation Vita? screenshot

Could Medal of Honor: Warfighter be coming to PlayStation Vita? French retailer CDiscount seems to think so. The online tech store's website has  follow-up to Danger Close Games' 2010 series reboot listed as available for pre-order on Sony's new portable device. Quelle surprise. Couleur m'a intrigué.

Medal of Honor featured an engrossing if somewhat brief campaign, and now that Danger Close has taken the multiplayer reigns from DICE, perhaps that aspect of the game will achieve a similar level of excellence. While Electronic Arts hasn't said anything publicly to indicate a handheld release at this time, Vita owners with idle thumbs might want to keep their eyes open during the publisher's press conference on Monday.

XSEED shows off The Last Story Limited Edtion

If you're even slightly interested in The Last Story you might want to strike while the iron is hot. While XSEED Games is localizing Final Fantasy creator and Mistwalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi's cult Wii role-player later this summer, the company has conservative expectations only has plans to publish a limited run in North America at this time.

To sweeten the deal for those wiling to pull the trigger on a purchase close to launch, XSEED is including a 44-page softcover art book along with a custom outer box shell (shown in the gallery below) for all first print copies of the title. Considering how there's been a movement to get this game localized, I doubt many people needed the extra incentive, but sometimes it's just nice to be nice.

Game Genie returns to consoles, shows PS3 version at E3

Game Genie returns to consoles, shows PS3 version at E3 screenshot

Hyperkin announced they will be rebooting Game Genie, the nostalgic, cheat code enabler for PlayStation 3. There is no release date at this time, but the product will be showed off at E3 with Skyrim and other recent releases.

Sometimes I wonder if we were really so awesome at videogames in the '90s or if we just forgot how much help Game Genie gave us along the way. Like Game Shark after it, Game Genie was a device that attached to consoles and allowed players to turn on a variety of cheats and weird glitches that programmers never wanted players to see. It was awesome!

Here's a list of features:

  • Loads, uploads and backs up your save data
  • All-in-one USB drive to transfer saves from PS3 to PC for easy modification
  • Unlocks secret content from weapons, levels, items, etc.
  • Ability to trade game saves with other players

The big appeal here, for me, is the ability to trade saves and upload them online. I loved being able to launch into the endgame of an RPG via saves in emulators, back in the day, and I've missed this ability ever since. It also has a more practical application, considering how disastrous PS3's saves can be. Sometimes you can't transfer save files to your new PS3, as I learned the hard way.

This Game Genie could save people a lot of trouble if it functions correctly. I haven't heard much about the previous Game Genie for DS that Hyperkin put out so I'm a bit skeptical. I'm also a bit puzzled by how this will effect cheating in multiplayer and trophy achievements. Surely, the last thing Sony and its community wants is more cheaters. These are different times, after all.

Bungie's Marathon Trilogy now available on iOS for free

Bungie's Marathon Trilogy now available on iOS for free screenshot

Back in the mid-nineties, years prior to the launch of a series that would change the face of the first-person shooter and bring Microsoft's Xbox brand to prominence, Bungie was one of the few developers making quality games for Apple's Macintosh computer. It was during this time that they first made forays into the growing FPS genre with three games that are now widely considered to be spiritual predecessors to the Halo franchise.

Last summer we learned that the first of those titles, Marathonwould be headed to the App Store with Bungie's seal of approval. Oh, and the best part? The 1994 sci-fi FPS launched for free. Since then Marathon 2: Durandal has joined the party; and now Marathon Infinity, the third and final part of the trilogy, has arrived on Apple's latest gadgets to bring everything full circle.

Whether you're a Halo fan looking to get a historical perspective on the series or just someone looking for some quality games to download on the cheap, all three Marathon titles are definitely worth a look.

Final Fantasy XI anniversary concert tickets now on sale

Final Fantasy XI anniversary concert tickets now on sale screenshot

Can you believe Final Fantasy XI has been around for ten years? Square Enix celebrated the occasion with a special orchestral concert in Japan that saw a DVD release earlier this year, and now they're surprisingly bringing the program to the United States. On September 22, 2012, AWR Music Productions, the team behind the highly-successful Distant Worlds tour will be recreating Final Fantasy XI's most memorable musical moments on stage with a full orchestra and choir.

There will also be special guests from Japan, including composers Naoshi Mizuta and Kumi Tanioka, the latter of whom may even grace the stage with her amazing piano skills. Tickets went on sale yesterday, and as this is a one-time show, I imagine they're going to go fast. Fans who attend will also get a special in-game item, the "maestro baton," (shown in the above video) not available anywhere else.

If you're interested in attending, you can pick up tickets here, with prices ranging from $50 to $150 for the VIP meet and greet session the special guests. Let us know what you think of Square Enix's willingness to bring such a specialized concert to the US and if you plan on attending!
