| Game Theory has the FINAL word on arrows and knees Posted: 22 Jan 2012 02:00 PM PST Okay, let's put this one to rest, shall we? Enough of this arrow-plus-knee nonsense. Time to cut to the core of the matter, dig up the truth, and swallow our findings no matter what they may be. Game Theory has been around for almost a year but just recently became a new ScrewAttack partner series. It's a show about doing research -- honest-to-God, nose-to-the-books research -- to determine the validity of videogame logic. In the latest episode, the insufferable "arrow to the knee" epidemic is placed under the microscope, and we learn not only Skyrim's connection to Viking history but also the group responsible for all these career-ending knee injuries. Now let us never speak of this topic again! Game Theory - Skyrim: On the Subject of Arrows and Knees [ScrewAttack] |
| A bone has been thrown: Code of Princess has online play Posted: 22 Jan 2012 12:00 PM PST Last time I wrote about Code of Princess, I used my infinite wisdom to determine and declare that the game needed online play if were to stand a chance at being a big hit. Looks like the game's developers read my post, as they have now announced that the game will have online play. Amazing that they were able to implement such a complex feature so quickly! Also, last time i wrote about the game, someone got sad at me for not mentioning that the game is being devleoped by some of the team who created Treasure's Guardian Heroes. Don't be sad at me guys! I wish I knew everything about every game all the time, but I don't! I am only a man. Now we just need to wait and see if the game will leave Japan. Wouldn't it be a kick in the balls if European and American 3DS owners got Steel Diver and Combat of the Giants: Dinosaurs 3D and not a awesome looking online co-op RPG-lite beat 'em up about purple zombie lady in a "<3 Milk <3" scarf getting fights with hordes of grumpy cyborg skeletons? Please don't kick my balls, Agatsuma Entertainment! Avoid the whole ball area if you wouldn't mind! Guardian Heroes Clone Code of Princess Has Online Play [AndriaSang] |
| New Archie Sonic special ties in to Sonic 4: Episode II Posted: 22 Jan 2012 11:00 AM PST Switching gears from Mega Man, let's talk about Archie's other, much bigger videogame comic, Sonic the Hedgehog. This one might interest some of you non-Sonic comic fans, as it offers clues towards the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. Sonic Super Special is a quarterly magazine that covers the Archie Sonic universe. For the third issue, there will be a pair of special comic chapters included. The first is a Sonic CD adaptation, which is in fact a reprint that appeared in one of the earliest issues in the Archie Sonic chronology. The second is a prologue that leads up to the events in Episode II. As of this moment, all we know of Episode II is that it relates somehow to Sonic CD and that Metal Sonic will feature prominently. The game is expected to release in the second half of this year, and the magazine should arrive this spring. If you are the kind of Sonic fan who dearly cares about the games' narrative and how it all ties together, this could possibly be worth your time. Something, something, super long title... | Writing about Kiki Trick: The sound of one hand clapping Posted: 22 Jan 2012 10:00 AM PST
When you write for a videogame blog, you know when lot of people are going to read your new post. Writing about SOPA, Resident Evil 6, Grand Theft Auto 5; these are the kind of stories that millions of people already have a vested interest in. Then there are the times when you're pretty sure someone might have vested interest in what you're writing about, but there is no way to be sure. It could be about some "indie" game, or "casual" game, or in this case, a Japanese Wii game about comic surrealism sound recognition called Kiki Trick. Does anyone think this is worth reading about? I hope so, because I certainly think it's worth writing about. Very few home console, retail-based games tries to do something completely different, and that's what Kiki Trick is all about. Above you'll find a video of one of Kiki Trick's in-game toys, a little Gameboy-like device that lets you make an noodle-eating man blow his nose, fart, pick his teeth, and do other noisy things. Below you'll find a video of the actual gameplay, which appears to be about guessing what types of baseball sounds are in your martini. I'm also throwing in a video of some girls just chilling out with some Kiki Trick and basically keeping it real. I am including this video because I watched it for 30 seconds and thought it was alright. This game looks weird and fun.

| Cooperate or betray? Check these Good People Die vids Posted: 22 Jan 2012 09:00 AM PST Still no word on whether the pants-tightening 999 sequel, Good People Die, will be hitting our shores this year, but there's no reason why we can't get ourselves just a leeeetle bit excited. Above is what appears to be the game's opening cutscenes, featuring full-blown animation care of Gonzo (Hellsing, Afro Samurai). Since I'm assuming most of us aren't fluent in "Nihongo," a fan has graciously provided a serviceable, if not 100% accurate, translation. Make sure the annotations are on, then enjoy the tale of a boy, a girl, a giant robot man, and an evil rabbit AI. After the jump, catch a clip detailing the rules of the Nonary Game: Ambidex Edition. Make sure subtitles (not annotations) are on for that one. Subtitled version of the Good People Die promotional anime clip [Tiny Cartridge]

| Alan Wake finally makes it to PC next month Posted: 22 Jan 2012 07:00 AM PST It's taken over six years, a canceled version and a petition, but Alan Wake is finally coming to PC this February. And some people though the wait for the Xbox 360 version was a long one. Remedy revealed its month of release along with other information in an FAQ on their forums. It's going to be released on Steam and will be a Steamworks title, it won't be using dreaded Games for Windows Live. The FAQ also lists the minimum and recommended specs, it's a pretty broad range. The Signal and The Writer DLC will be included with the game, but unfortunately there won't be a demo. I held out for a PC version until last year when I broke and picked up the 360 version. It was pretty damn good, certainly the most fun I've had with a torch. Hopefully those of you who have been waiting all this time will think it's been worth it. |
| Indie Game: The Movie reviewed (finally!!!) Posted: 22 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST As part of my Sundance coverage for film-centric sister-site Flixist.com, I got to check out Indie Game: The Movie last night. This much anticipated documentary focuses on the development of Super Meat Boy, the development hell of Fez, and indie games in general.

| Dtoid contributor Ian Bonds likes making musical parodies Posted: 22 Jan 2012 02:30 AM PST Ian Bonds is a name you might have seen pop up a few times here on Dtoid. He's been a contributor for a while now, submitting reviews for games that might have slipped through the cracks. What you may not be aware of, however, is that he is also Insane Ian, a comedy geek musician who likes to write parodies of contemporary and popular music similarly to "Weird Al" Yankovic. You can check out some of the videos he's released over on his YouTube page and website. Above is "Skryim," a parody of... Rebecca Black's "Friday." It was clearly made for kicks and giggles, but I think he captured the awkwardness of the original almost to well. For more variety, I direct you to two of his earlier numbers, "Bob-Omb" and "Guitar Hero," embedded after the jump.

| Whoa my goddess! Explore all of Hyrule in Minecraft! Posted: 21 Jan 2012 08:00 PM PST Some people build the USS Enterprise in Minecraft. Others recreate famous landmarks or buildings. The Hyrulecraft team instead decided to make a 1:1 scale representation of Ocarina of Time's Hyrule, right down to the garden where you first meet the princess. This is perhaps the most incredible Minecraft undertaking I have ever seen. If you want to check it out, the alpha map can be downloaded here and the main server can be found at 64.79.106.218. Eventually, Hyrulecraft will include quests, dungeons, all the trimmings. I want to see how stuff like the Shadow Temple gets implemented. It's gonna be huge! |
