Webzen reveals logo for Archlord II Posted: 27 Sep 2011 01:25 AM PDT As posted a few times before, Webzen will be showcasing a couple of new titles at G*Star 2011 later in November. One of the new titles will be the sequel to Archlord, Archlord II. Today, the game's logo (or Business Identity) was revealed. Little information has been revealed so far about the game, with the various large-scale PvP and territorial wars features confirmed to be available. There will also be a change in characters, with the empahsis now being on "Free Classes". More information to be revealed as G*Star 2011 edges closer.
Giant Interactive - In talks for Contra Online Posted: 27 Sep 2011 12:15 AM PDT One of China's online gaming powerhouses, Giant Interactive, has confirmed that they are in talks with Konami in acquiring the rights for the classic game, Contra, to be made into an online game. For most of the veteran gamers, including myself, Contra is one of the titles which really tested our skills with all those jumping, avoiding traps and impossibly tough alien bosses. This information was leaked when one of Giant Interactive's top executives supposedly let slip during a public speech, declaring that Contra Online will be a 2D side-scroller online title aimed at players around the age of 30. After the leak, Giant Interactive has now officially declared (image below) that it has not not signed the IP rights for Contra yet, but is in active negotiations with Konami. This follows a chain of Asian MMO developers remaking classic titles into online games, including Dragon Ball (link), Rockman, Hello Kitty, Crayon Shin-chan (link) and the recent Power Rangers Online (link). Perfect World has also gotten the rights to develop Saint Seiya Online (link). Are you hyped for Contra Online?
Rumor - Red 5 Studios and Webzen over? Posted: 26 Sep 2011 09:01 PM PDT According to foreign reports, Red 5 Studios, the developer of Firefall, will be exhibiting the title by itself at the upcoming G*Star 2011. The biggest online gaming event in the world, one would expect Webzen, the supposed publisher for the Korean server, to be showcasing the game instead. Webzen's display list currently holds sequels including Archlord 2 and MU 2. Speculations are pointing towards both companies finally reaching a compromise soon and Red 5 Studios will be officially gaining back control of Firefall not only in Korea, but in Asia as well. Once again, this is just a rumor circulating in the foreign media. Firefall is currently in its Closed Beta test, with the official release scheduled sometime in December.
