THQ is bringing out the big guns to E3 with huge titles like ... Margaritavill Online for Facebook and iOS? What? That's so exciting! No, but seriously, THQ has a bunch of awesome content for E3:

  • Metro: Last Light
  • Saints Row: The Third
  • uDraw GameTablet (Xbox 360 and PS3)
  • UFC Personal Trainer
  • UFC Undisputed 3
  • UFC Undisputed Fight Nation (Facebook and iOS)

I just brought you previews of Metro: Last Light and Saints Row: The Third and both games are looking pretty damn good. We all know Jim Sterling has a chub for anything Warhammer 40,000 so expect to see plenty of coverage on that from him at E3 next week. What are you looking forward to hearing more about at E3?

Starbreeze's Syndicate game to be a first-person shooter

Starbreeze's Syndicate game to be a first-person shooter screenshot

Now, now, fellow PC gamers. Before you snap your keyboards in half and stain your monitors with bile, this news is technically about "Project RedLime", which, while long rumored to be a reboot of Bullfrog and EA's classic Syndicate franchise, has not been officially confirmed. So one could justifiably file this one under "rumor".

A feature on 1up about Starbreeze, the Sweden-based studio responsible for The Darkness and Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay suggests that RedLime would be blending Syndicate's corporate future-dystopia universe with first-person gameplay, with "a bigger multiplayer focus than past Starbreeze games." The game would also have a stronger emphasis on a "core mechanic" to differentiate it from other shooters or similar games.

Well, as I know it, Syndicate's "core mechanic" was that you played a nasty corporate overlord manipulating a team of heavily armed, drugged-up, cybernetically-enhanced agents and using them to accomplish various dirty deeds from an isometric perspective, including assassinating uncooperative politicians, blowing up rival businesses assets, or walking through crowds with a "Persuadertron", instantly brainwashing dozens of civilians to use as walking meat-shields.

Keep some of that, Starbreeze, and we'll be cool.

Black Ops PC: Free multiplayer this weekend, new DLC hits

Black Ops PC: Free multiplayer this weekend, new DLC hits screenshot

It's not every day you see a Free Weekend event on Steam, and those pushed for Activision properties are even rarer sights to behold. Even still, the multiplayer for Call of Duty: Black Ops PC is totally free to play this weekend until Sunday at 1:00 pm PDT. Go make your ISP proud by downloading gigs of data.

In related news, the Escalation add-on is now available on PC, should you long for further multiplayer maps and zombies getting their asses kicked by various actors. It's worth noting Black Ops itself is temporarily on sale for $40.19; shame that's not the regular price.

Finally, double XP in multiplayer kicks off on Friday.

A list of DSiWare that cannot be transfered to your 3DS

A list of DSiWare that cannot be transfered to your 3DS screenshot

Backwards compatibility is cool, but it's never 100 percent. I think back to that miniature Genesis, the Genesis 3. It can't play some games. Remember the badass Sega CDX? It wouldn't play a few titles. And that Sony thing? What's it called? PSP Go or something. Yeah, it couldn't play any of the UMD games I own.

Your Nintendo 3DS is backwards compatible with DSiWare, and the firmware update coming next month will let you transfer your games from your old DSi or DSi XL to your 3DS. But hold on! There's a few that won't go. Siliconera has the short list, which you'll find after the jump. For the most part it's only Domo games, some Sudoku stuff and a few odd ones. Flipnote Studio won't move over, either.

Looking at this list, I think most of you are safe.

  • Art Academy First Semester
  • Art Academy Second Semester
  • Asphalt IV
  • Crash-Course Domo
  • Earthworm Jim
  • Flipnote Studio
  • Hard-Hat Domo
  • Let’s Golf
  • Nintendo DSi Browser
  • Oregon Trail
  • Pinball Pulse: The Ancients Beckon
  • Pro-Putt Domo
  • Real Soccer 2009
  • Real Soccer 2010
  • Rock-n-Roll Domo
  • SUDOKU MASTER
  • SUDOKU SENSEI
  • Sudoku Student
  • White-Water Domo

Live Show: Backlog still ratcheting and clanking

Live Show: Backlog still ratcheting and clanking screenshot

Once more into the breach we go as Backlog continues its run through Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time. On last night's program, Ratchet rescued Quark from the Agorian Battleplex and saved General Azimuth from Lord Vorselon. He had a busy night and it would have been a whole hell of a lot busier finishing up side missions had I not initiated the next section of the game to feature Clank, trapping me in the Great Clock with little to occupy myself with until our next show.

Our next show is now. Come join me as I play Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time and hang out with all the goons in our live chat. There's been a ton of stuff going on in the news today, so I'm sure we'll be talking up a storm about all of that. It's a rollicking good time and it's all happening right now on Destructoid's Justin.tv channel!

X-Men Arcade now available for iOS devices screenshot

The sweet-ass 1992 arcade game is now a thing for your iPhone, iPad and other iThings, thanks to Konami. X-Men Arcade is up on the iTunes App Store now.

What's cool is that this version still lets you get your four-player on with drop-in local Wi-Fi multiplayer support. Konami says that they've also given special attention to the touchscreen controls, and that you are free to place the buttons anywhere on the screen. The game supports Facebook Connect and Game Center, and there's even a rumor that the good ol' Konami code is supported.

X-Men Arcade is available in the App Store now for only $2.99.

[Thanks, Ryan!]

Kojima unveils new multiplatform Fox Engine, teases game

Kojima unveils new multiplatform Fox Engine, teases game screenshot

A new game coming from Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will show off the new Fox Engine. This next-gen, multiplatform game engine was revealed in Konami's pre-E3 announcements today. Kojima says that this engine will be the future of Kojima Production games, and that it will let them move away from developing games made for a single platform. This new game, which may or may not have been shown in the presentation, will most likely not be a Metal Gear game. Don't cry.

The demonstration ran on an Xbox 360 dev kit. It featured a guy moving through a highly detailed jungle, where super-realistic leaves fall in the background. Also shown: A super shiny and muscular dog and horse. It's not much, but GameTrailers has a good look at what little there is.

Here's the important part: The next game from Kojima Productions will use this fancy new Fox Engine. We know this game will be multiplatform and will be created for a global audience.

Full version of Desktop Dungeons revealed, looks hot

Full version of Desktop Dungeons revealed, looks hot screenshot

QCF Design's award-winning Desktop Dungeons was a free, indie puzzle-rougelike thing I got madly (and secretly) addicted to, then bothered to tell none of you about. The original version is still available in all of its pixelated glory, and I urge you to try it. There's much news to discuss, however.

PC and Mac pre-orders are open for the new-and-improved Desktop Dungeons, which is quite the step up visually from its freeware brethren. QCF also states that getting on Steam is the plan, and more versions -- web, Android, and iPhone, to be exact -- are on the horizon.

This is going to be awesome, guys. Heck, it already is.

[Thanks, Knivy]

There's a new Contra coming, but that's all we know

There's a new Contra coming, but that's all we know screenshot

Sorry to waste your time making you read past the headline, but we don't know anything about this new Contra game. In fact, our 'source' is a blazing "C" shown in video form at Konami's pre-E3 event. The good ol' Contra "C." I found myself typing the Konami code into the air when I first saw it.

"They're Coming"

That's what it says right under the C logo. What the hell does that mean?

I hope this game is just a fancy new chapter in the franchise. No funny business, please. No first-person nonsense. No IRL Wii guns or cover systems.

GOG expanding catalogue with 25 EA classics, 3 out today

GOG expanding catalogue with 25 EA classics, 3 out today screenshot

Good Old Games is adding 25 classic EA games over the next few months, and some of them have been released today. Not just any games either: Dungeon Keeper, Ultima Underworld I+II, and Wing Commander: Privateer -- each for $5.99.

The next three upcoming titles are Crusader: No Remorse, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Magic Carpet. Sadly, the System Shock and Syndicate series were not part of the EA/GOG deal and have been ruled out as prospective new GOG titles "at this time."

After the next three games are released, GOG.com will also "take a break" until later in the Summer. While we're talking about GOG, all the Broken Sword games are 30% off until Friday and you can grab the trilogy for 50% at $8.97. Problem, wallet?

E3: D3Publisher showing off White Knight Chronicles II

E3: D3Publisher showing off White Knight Chronicles II screenshot

We've been talking about White Knight Chronicles II for the longest time now and looks like we'll be talking about it some more as D3Publisher is bringing the game to E3 next week. Dale North reviewed the first game and we found it to be alright. We'll find out if LEVEL-5 has made an good solid improvements.

Other than that, we'll be seeing Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon which we just adore at Destructoid. Oh, there's also going to be Ben 10 Galactic Racing and do I really need to say it? Okay, I will: No one cares about that game. Like at all.

Silent Hill HD collection also coming, NGP title teased

Silent Hill HD collection also coming, NGP title teased screenshot

In addition to the Zone of the Enders and Metal Gear Solid HD collections, Konami plans to put out a bundle for another one of its big franchises: Silent Hill. Unlike the aforementioned compilations, this one -- which features Silent Hill 2 and 3 -- doesn't have a solid release date.

Also briefly talked about during Konami's pre-E3 press conference was a new title exclusive to NGP called Silent Hill: Book of Memories. And yeah, Silent Hill: Downpour is still on the way, though it's going to get overshadowed by these announcements, I'm sure.

Metal Gear Solid & Zone of Enders HD collection revealed

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 12:31 PM PDT

Metal Gear Solid & Zone of Enders HD collection revealed screenshot

Zone of the Enders is coming back in glorious HD format! Both Zone of the Enders games are being remastered in HD and is hitting the PlayStation 3 AND Xbox 360. Zone of the Enders will be out in 2012.

As for the Metal Gear Solid HD collection, it will include Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The MGS collection will be out this November. This will also hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Konami states that these HD version isn't an emulator. It's optimized and rebuilt specifically for the PS3 and Xbox 360. There's a new user interface, redrawn high-res 2D art, new trophies and Achievements and improved audio quality.

Additionally, both collections will have a new feature called "Transfarring." Yes, it's really spelled that way. Transfarring will allow PlayStation 3 and PSP owners to share one save that works between the two versions of Peace Walker. So far that will be the only game that works with Transfarring. The feature is also in the Zone of the Enders HD collection but Konami wouldn't detail why exactly. Possible PSP or NGP releases coming?

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 'Resurrection' DLC dated

Posted: 02 Jun 2011 12:20 PM PDT

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 'Resurrection' DLC dated screenshot

Konami has announced the release date of the final content expansion for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The "Resurrection" DLC continues the story of Gabriel Belmont following the events of the previous add-on, "Reverie," and pits him up against a demon known as "The Forgotten One." The content will be arriving on Xbox Live next week on June 7th, followed by a PlayStation Network release on June 14th.

This might be the only Castlevania game released in the US that I haven't played. I was so non-plussed by previous efforts to do the series in 3D that I lacked any motivation when the game finally came out, despite hopes that Kojima Productions and MercurySteam would revitalize the franchise. Did I make the right move?
